Catalonia Royal Tulum is 7 stars out of 5!!!!
My experience at this resort could not be matched by any other resort! Everything from the customer service, the food, the beach, and the accommodations was phenomenal. All of the staff really thought of everything and took care of everything. Super friendly and accommodating, no request was too much of a hassle for them to complete. Everyone from the waiters to the concierge was a courteous, happy, and informative. Isabel helped us check in - and wow she was so amazing! She was incredibly sweet but also really thorough and concise. She gave us the best tips about where to get food once we arrived as she must have known that we were hungry before we even mentioned it. We love her! Arturo at the front desk was always helping us break our large bills to smaller denominations. He is great at conversation! He is super humble and friendly!! The food at our resort was amazing!!! At first, I was skeptical tor try an asian cuisine restaurant in a Mexican resort. I had extremely under estimated Tao Cat! The food there is incredibly delicious and the their desserts are even better. Even the buffet food is good, I had to convince myself to not overfill my stomach. The authentic restaurant Adelita has huaraches, fajitas, and tacos like you wouldn't believe. It really opens your eyes to what little we know about authentic Mexican cuisine due to Tex Mex food. The pizza and snack bar (Sorrento) has the best ceviche I have ever tried. Super fresh and soft, the fish literally melted in my mouth. I had ordered that almost every day around lunch time and had no regrets. The best part? No need to make reservations..... for any of the restaurants on the resort! How amazing is that!!! We will truly miss Quetzabel and how sweet and wonderful her demeanor was! We would always look forward to seeing her around breakfast time!!! Her sweet and uplifting character made Catalonia rise above other resorts. The people who run the daily games and activities are also super fun! Always energetic, uplifting, and happy! Shout out to Jose (Chema) and Nicolas!!! Food and water is also really clean. I chose not to take a Dukoral before I left and had no problems. I saw ice being brought out in bags so you know they buy their ice instead of using the tap water. Water, cutlery, tables, and chairs are always cleaned. I had no problems at all. After cleaning service, the room was always clean, no specks of sand on the ground or anything. There was a safe in our room as well for added security, I didn't feel worried about my personal belongings at all. The shower was wide and spacious! Internet access can be reached throughout the entire resort as well! NO delays! And there was also a mini-fridge that was stacked with snacks and water everyday!! Yum! The beach was super close to the room and super clean! It was like something out of a travel commercial : clean, seaweed-less soft white sand, and crystal clear blue waters. It is truly paradise! If the waters are calm, you can also rent a kayak and go on your own adventure for an hour as part of the resort. And you are also free to walk up and down the beach for your own adventure as well. Last but not least, we have to give an amazing shout-out to EDDY! His job is to make sure all guests enjoy their time at the resort and he did not disappoint. He first greeted us with his super friendly demeanor and from his manner of conversation ,we knew he wasn't talking to us just to sell us something. Eddy gave us invaluable tips and recommendations on how to fully enjoy our vacation. His suggestions on tourist excursions and traveler's safety was incredibly useful!! He helped us achieve the best day trips which got us to the destinations and landmarks we really wanted to see without having to settle for destinations we weren't all that crazy for. Sergio also helped and we couldn't be more grateful. They both helped us book a day excursion to Playa del Carmen for shopping with Best Day Experience. My friends and I were able to get many souvenirs to bring home. THANK YOU SO MUCH EDDY FOR EVERYTHING!!! All in all, I do not have any outstanding negative remarks to say about this resort. You honestly get what you pay for. The quality, customer service, and accommodation is all absolutely wonderful. Thank you Catalonia for all your hospitality!

Adults only resort with a modern design
Part of a 3 hotel grouping on the same property and this resort is an adults only. Ali looked after us with a smile and after checking in took us on a cart ride to our room and our vacation began. We had booked a swim-out room (building 2 near the main pool) based on reviews of others - it was nice because it was main floor and easy access to the bathroom, but the pool was unheated and usually took until mid afternoon before it was a decent temp to swim or hang around in. Next time, if we return, we are going to save a pile of money and not opt for this. It was nice that all the restaurants didn't require reservations other than Tao Tepanyaki, but some showed better than others. Tried to get into the Rodeo Grill one night and were told it was a 20 minute wait and to just go get a drink inside at the bar. The barman was too busy washing glasses and chatting with a chica to even acknowledge us, so after 5 minutes we left. Aroma was a nice choice - shows that you don't need tons of food to fill you up and it was nice to have a leisurely sit down meal. La Brushetta left us disappointed with the menu and the fish was second rate to what Aroma served. The Yucatan Buffet was always busy, but getting your breakfast to your table while it was still hot was a challenge. Eggs are cooked in one area (and these guys are not up to the speed that is required when you have a lot of guests), bacon is in another place and toast is across the room, and orange juice and fruit in another direction. Thursday night is lobster night and the half tails drenched in butter were super tasty. We had the tepanyaki twice - the show is the same everywhere in Mexico, but the food was delicious - good job Luis. Lunches were not the best unless you wandered the buffet or went to the beach grill for wings and fries. The burgers were huge, but were precooked steakettes and warmed up on the grill when you ordered one - not my first choice. Rodeo had sandwiches and salads, - if you like a small ciabatta bun with one slice of ham, a half slice of cheese and some wilty lettuce - then you would love this place at noon. As others have said before, the sand is nice, but if you want to go in the ocean, walk down the beach to the sister resorts - hardly any rocks and water as warm as a bathtub, and while you are there, take a stroll though the grounds, have a nice charcoal cooked burger near the pool. Twice they cooked near the main pool and it was a delicious treat of fresh grilled pollo, carne and cerdo hot off the grill. All in all it was a decent resort - nothing over the top - the staff always said Hola when passing by, but you really dont get to know them like we have at smaller venues - its just not as friendly (to us anyways), other than our All Star team member Horacio - this guy was always smiling and made sure to come by and shake our hand, give us both a hug and made sure we were not lacking for anything - good job by the resorts newest rookie :) - Gracias Amigo!

Everything you want in a resort!
Lovely modern facility. We were pleasantly surprised by the ice cream shop and the cafe with lattes and macchiatos and delicious pastries, particularly in the mornings. The Eden swim up junior suite was spacious and clean but a slight musty smell. We called the front desk and they had a dehumidifier brought up immediately, which solved the problem. The Eden pool is very popular for young and old but if you like peace and quiet, the privilege area might be better, as the Eden pool is a busy, happening place. We found the restaurants quite good, especially Sakura and Blue Moon but the waiting time can be lengthy and Sakura is by reservation only. Unfortunately, the only time you can make a reservation is at 9 AM and it must be done the morning of, no advance reservations. The lineup is long, so be prepared to be there for 8 AM if you want a 6 PM seating. If you have mobility issues, one concern is location of the restaurants. Since the shuttle only comes once every 10 to 15 minutes, we often ended up walking and my foot bothered me most of the week. My suggestion would be during peak (evening meals) times that 2 shuttles be running. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would give it a 4.5 out of 5. I did find the replacement cost of a pool towel (if you should lose it) a little ridiculous at $100. We would recommend this resort to anyone who is looking for a vacation place with lots of activities right on the resort. They even have bowling lanes open from 3 PM until 11 PM, I believe, and there is sort of a sanctuary for monkeys and those animals that look like a cross between an anteater, a monkey, and a raccoon. They are really quite cute!

Iberostar Paraiso Beach
Overall, very good trip. Property is beautifully maintained, staff were very attentive and provided excellent service, food was good - lots of variety, beach was well maintained - I've heard seaweed can be a problem in this area but that was not the case while we were there. (beach would not be the #1 reason to travel to this area - beaches are nicer in Cuba for example) Property is spread out but golf carts available to move people around. This hotel is one of 5 in an Iberostar complex and they all share a shopping complex area with casino, disco, shopping (of course) and all food & beverage offered here were included (excellent creperie/ice cream shop and taco/burrito/quesadilla shop). Although we didn't have kids with us, it has a new kids building with lots of things inside and out for the kids to take part in. Exchange priviledges with Paraiso del Mar and Lindo properties located on either side of the Paraiso Beach property. The pool is a huge "lazy river" style pool with plenty of seating around it - the pool is one of the highlights of this property. I very much enjoyed it and was especially impressed by the service and friendliness of the staff. We stayed in a standard room on 1st floor - well appointed, no problem with bugs, lots of hot water, beautiful view of gardens in building 33 which was a short walk to both pool and beach. I would return to this property and as an agent, I will sell with confidence.
