I have been to 4 different resorts in the last 3 years. This resort has the best beach I have seen and the resort is great for a first timer. The service is great, I have nothing bad to say about the service you get. However, if you are a seasoned traveler to all-inclusive, the limitation on room service is annoying. Lots to do in the resort for all ages like bowling, eating :), drinking, swimming in the beach and the pool, entertainment every night, adults only area, teens area and kids area. 3 restaurants you have to make reservation which is easy but 4 restaurants are first come first serve and they are hard to get into. even thou the restaurant is empty you can't get in. Blue Moon restaurant was a big disappointment. I personally liked the Brazilian Steak house. The resort is very heavy on selling timeshare, I got suckered into a presentation. An hour walk on the beach to Puerto Morales, just make sure to take water and sunscreen. The restaurant accommodated gluten allergy. [Details]

The weak points
Room service is included by does not start until 11:00am and ends at 10:00pm. So if you are looking for breakfast or late dinner, forget it. If you don't have reservation for a restaurant you are eating at the buffet. Same items for buffet every day.

We went for this resort to celebrate our 6 years anniversary. Over all our stay was pleasant. I was hoping for an upgrade for our room when I mentioned that it's our anniversary and it was our first trip to Mexico. Nothing was offered. But at least if the resort would have offered us Champagne or anything on our anniversary that would have a difference to us. We got a call the next morning telling us to come to receive our welcome gift only to learn afterwards in order for us to receive it we have to attend a presentation similar to the time share program which we weren't interested in therefore we got Nothing! These are the draw backs. Other than this the resort is really nice. Open buffet was good but we been to better one's. The restaurants were really good. 3 of them needed reservations which can be booked easily by the phone app. The rest its first come first serve or if u upgrade to privilege they give u access to book. Chambre : Grande et propre, matelas très confortable. Chambre bien insonorisé et du côté familial. Ce fut le meilleur choix car c'était silencieux, pas de bruits de party de piscine et parfait pour relaxer !!!
Restaurants : Tout était excellent sauf le Route 66. Un des burgers au porc ( mini burger) avait du porc cru dedans et pas cuit !! Vérifiez toujours votre viande en voyage pour la cuisson !
Buffet : Tout était parfait, le service, la nourriture était toujours de température adéquate.
Piscine : Je m'y suis peu baignée car les gens réservaient les chaises très tôt le matin. Même seule je n'arrivais pas a avoir de la place !
Plage : superbe plage, oui il y a des algues mais c'est la faute de la nature et non de l'hôtel ! Les gens réservent aussi les chaises mais j'ai toujours réussie à me trouver de la place car j'étais seule. Par contre ça a dû être un casse tête pour une famille de 4 qui ne réservaient pas les chaises à 5am !! J'ai entendu une famille dire qu'ils réservaient Et à la plage Et à la piscine.. un total de 8 chaises!!!! L'hôtel ne devrait pas tolérer cela ce fut mon seul gros irritant de la semaine !

Overall our experience was good. We were greeted with smiles from the moment we arrived. At first our room was not what we expected, or wanted, but it was great. The pools were beautiful;however, the seats were always taken by 730am. Shade was also scarce but inside the lobby made up for the extra heat. The biggest down was the beach, full of seaweed which they did their best to clean up but still overwhelming. The food was good at the buffet, best time was lunch. The al a cartes were good also. The sushi experience was amazing. The Blue Moon restaurant was the best. Finally...made friends with a coati, a racoon, several kitties and saw alligators at the resort. [Details]

This is my second stay at this resort and I would return. The beach is great, one can walk on the beach to Puerto Morelos. I really like the layout of the resort. It is not humongous. Appreciated having restaurants where there were no reservations, clients had to show up. Guest service desk was mostly unoccupied and there was no sign saying to go to Privilege Desk. Went there a number of times and did not know I had to go to the Privilege Desk next door. The valet and concierge services are great. We paid additional money to stay in the “Privileged” area. We experienced the following problems: • The room we were assigned had a vent motor affixed to the roof above our bedroom and used for the Privileged restaurant which was two floors below our room. That fan ran 24hrs per day and could be heard in our room making sleeping very difficult. The shower in our room had hot water for about 2 minutes and then it would go cold so we avoided showering. In front of our room was a large deck facing the ocean, but it was a designed smoking area, and it was littered with approximately 50 cigarette butts which had not been cleaned in quite some time. We are nonsmokers. We asked to change rooms and they offered to move us to the far end of the resort in the children's area which was the furthest point from the Privileged area. We declined that ridiculous offer. They then offered another room in the right area, and we moved to that room. This issue took two days of our time to resolve. • One evening we went out for supper, and we were gone for approximately 80 minutes. When we returned, we noticed that we had received a turn down service. This had not happened in all the days we had been there. When we left the room, we ensured that the windows, sliding door and the room door were all secured and locked. On our return we found that a single $50USD bill had been taken. I watched my wife place the $50 in a small brown envelope, then she put it in a small carryall and then put it in a carrying bag and left it on a bench in our bedroom. When we returned from supper the $50 bill was gone - stolen actually. We contacted security and 3 staff attended our room and conducted a search and asked my wife to write out a statement which she did. They said they would contact us in the morning. They never contacted us and after numerous calls and attending the Privileged customer service desk I was informed that they had reviewed their security cameras and the door lock sensors saying the only people who entered/left the room while we were having supper were the house keeping staff and us. Given that review they said they couldn't do anything about it. I asked for a written statement for what they had done with their investigation and who they spoke to but they would not give me that information. I then asked to speak with a manager, and they referred me to the Guest Services manager. They booked a meeting with him which was scheduled for 11:00 the next day. I attended that meeting but was told the Manager was busy but would be available at 12:30. I returned at that time, but he did not arrive until 1:15pm. He was accompanied by one of his assistants. We spoke of the event and basically, he said he was sorry that this had happened but did not make and attempt to acknowledge that his staff had taken the money and made no offer at any type of restitution. • Your survey requires that I complete what areas I would recommend but given that the above issues required me to basically lose 3 days of our holiday I just picked one item so the survey would go through. I do not recommend this resort. We have travelled to several Caribbean resorts over the years such as Cancun, Cuba, the Dominican Republic to name a few and have never experienced what we did at the Ocean Coral. Would we return - NO, would we recommend anyone to use this resort - NO. [Details]

The place is beautiful, well maintained and the food is great. Beautiful and comfort place to stay. We got one very nice waiter at the main buffet, his name is Manuel. The guy who's "giving" you the welcome package is very incise, he didn't tell us we need to talk to the air canada agent in order to get to know our shuttle information, he said we needed to meet him and her for one and a half hour to get to know about the tours (which we didn't want in the first place) and it had to be done on our second day there. We didn't go to the meeting, as we thought it was about tours. On our last day, when we tried to talk to this lady, she was terribly impolite and didn't help us, just because we didn't go to that meeting. [Details]

We were pretty disappointed with this place, considering we had stayed at two other locations on previous visits. The beach being covered in sea weed and the water being dirty is not their fault, but the smell was awful :( The service or complete lack of from our butler was disappointing, as well as the food! Upon arrival I was immediately approached by a worker indicating I could see the prestigue section the next morning. I was clear I did not want to participate in a time share presentation but that I only wanted to upgrade our current stay if I was not able to access the a la carte restaurants. I was informed that it was not a time share and they would set me up for a good vacation with my daughter. Without going into detail the next morning I was not able to book our restaurants via their application as nothing is availble at 8:00am and the meeting the next morning was a high sales pitch/timeshare presentation that took 3 hours. I do not enjoy these tiered resorts that are increasingly present through Mexico, Panama, etc. I ended up on the third day purchasing the upgrade for $350 (US) (which I asked for on the first day) just so we could book into the restaurants. I didn't care about the room or the privilege pool area. The resort is clean, although a bit dated with mostly friendly and helpful staff. The buffet was ok but not great. Check in service was inadequate. We did not receive a welcome package or any information about the grounds, restaurants, activities etc. Rooms were a generous size with large balconies and well accommodated. The grounds and resort itself were visually nice. A much narrower stretch of beach than a lot of other resorts. Sargassum was really bad but nothing you can do about nature. The Japanese restaurant and Blue Moon restaurant were good. The other restaurants were well below par, particularly the Mexican a la carte, which is ironic. The buffets were inconsistent and for the most part wasteful. So much selection therefore making everything bad. The breakfast buffet was the only one with any Mexican food which was the best part. But no guacamole anywhere. The actual breakfast foods other than the fruit were consistently bad. Service was also inconsistent with it often being inattentive and unfriendly. A few people were sweet - Edna and Frankie. The cleaning staff always friendly. No information or signage for activities on the grounds. Anytime we asked about something we were told “it's over there”. The drinks were the most wasteful. It didn't matter what cocktail you ordered the quality of the alcohol and mix were awful. We went into Puerto Morelos a few times which was the highlight of our trip. Good food, real margaritas and cervezas, beach bars and shops, and a large grocery store where we purchased our own wine and mix - so when ordering a drink we requested a certain brand of alcohol at the resort. We went into town so much also because guests of the hotel constantly put out their towels on chairs early in the morning to occupy them - pools and beach - and sometimes never even occupied the whole day! With such a large resort and so many guests the ratio of chairs to guests was also inadequate and like some resorts security should not allow towels to occupy a chair all day but rather an actual human body. All in all our experience at the resort was poor and we would never return. It ended up costing us more than we expected and the experience was not what one should expect on vacation where you go for fun, sun and smiles. And an “all inclusive” where you've essentially prepaid for crappy food and drinks. Not worth it. [Details]

My stay at this hotel was decent and there was no issue with the room, even though I had heard others had serious issues with their rooms. The staff was capable and attentive and always responsive to requests. They work really hard to make a living and you can see they are dedicated to make people feel comfortable and happy. The hotel is clean and conforms to sustainability which was great to see. Sanitary measures were well respected as well. The restaurants were worth it but sometimes they were understaffed. Also, when the pool bar was really busy, you could see that they were well understaffed. The adults only section is worth it if you seek quiet pool time. [Details]

Première semaine qui se résume comme très mouvementés, l'ouragan est arrivé vite, le personnel de l'hôtel nous a pris en charge, grâce à eux, nous nous sommes sentis en sécurité, nous avons été évacués loin de la côte dans une école en prenant avec nous le strict nécessaire et laisser notre valise dans le bain de notre chambre d'hôtel. Sur le site de l'école, nous avions un médecin, une ambulancière et plusieurs employés de l'hôtel pour prendre soin de nous, nous avons bien mangé, bien informés, ils se sont bien occupés de nous, ils avaient apporté des chaises de plage, des couvertures et oreiller pour nous. Le plus fort de l'ouragan était dans la nuit de 2h à 5h30. Une chance que nous avions un membre de l'hôtel par classe (chambre) pour nous sécuriser durant la nuit. Nous avons été chanceux, car l'ouragan a frappé à 2 au lieu de 4 comme prévu. J'ai eu très peur, c'était ma première expérience. Nous sommes revenus à l'hôtel le lendemain à 17 heures, il y avait seulement quelques feuilles de palmiers de cassés, le toit d'un restaurant parti et quelques palapas en moins sur la plage. Le lendemain matin au buffet de l'hôtel, le directeur, monsieur Wilber Looza, a passé aux tables pour savoir si tout était correct. J'ai trouvé ça très gentil. Par la suite, je lui ai demandé de nous donner gratuitement l'accès aux services du Privilège pour mes trois derniers jours, il a accepté avec plaisir. Il y a une bonne différence au privilège, meilleur alcool, un souper particulier, les déjeuners sur le bord de la mer. Le service du concierge au privilège, Luis, est très attentionné. Par la suite, il a fait très beau! Que dire du personnel gentil, souriant et attentionné de Janvier, Ever, Edit et Edwin à la crêperie, Susana à la réception du buffet et son accueil en français. Luis et Roberto à la piscine des adultes donnent un service hors du commun, ils sont très gentils et s'assurent que nous sommes heureux. Les géos, la belle Andréa (Sugar brown), Roy et tous les autres sont très gentils, pleins de vie, d'ailleurs, ils étaient plusieurs avec nous à l'école. Notre super DJ, Saudiel Guillen Gonzalez, est excellent. Il tient la piste de dance pleine chaque soir après le spectacle jusqu'à la fermeture. Je voudrais vous citer les noms de plusieurs personnes vu l'excellent accueil et service que nous avons reçu à cet hôtel, mais la liste est trop longue. C'est certain que j'y retournerai bientôt. Great resort and staff. Food small portions except buffet, but good enough for women. But food could be improved upon. Got terrible bites when down at ocean that got as big as a nickel and extremely itchy. Assume sand mites? But staff very helpful in Privlege lounge. Recommend upgrading to Privlege as worth it. Aldo was my favorite waiter in the Privlege lounge which opens at 7 a.m. and I am early morning riser (80 years old too). Extremely clean. Did the Massage and very good but facial wasn't. Entertainers so enjoyable especially The Lion King film then live dancers portraying this movie. Liked Grease as well. Carlos welcomed you and such a pleasant man. Many others exceptional as well. Early January weather with highs in the 26C - 29C, but windy. Rough seas every day made pool swimming preferable to the ocean. A fair amount of ocean plant life washing up on the beach and unpleasant in the water due to rough seas. The resort was probably only 50% - 75% full but finding a vacant lounge chair was impossible unless you get out early (before 8:00a). Evening entertainment until at least 11:00p so if you want to retire early, count on listening to dance music while you try to fall asleep. Nicely kept grounds, short ride to airport. [Details]

My wife and I travel fairly often, and have been to the carribean several times. This hotel is very good to excellent. The staff are great. The food choices are fantastic, travelling with us this time was a very selective eater (picky). who always found food to enjoy and eat at this location. Anyone complaining about the food here may be the kind of people that would be hard to please anywhere. Restaurants include; the buffet, two Itallion restaurants, a Beef steak house, Mexican, Blue Moon, and Japanese (a must). Several to choose from!!!
There are four pools; kids, family, party or activity pool and adult pool. Several pools to choose from.
Water activities in the party pool are spectacular. Erik is the best!!!! They also have yoga near the pool.
Beaches are very nice and the ocean as well. Seaweed was consistently cleaned up on the beach. Im sorry, but I doubt the beach and ocean compare to Cuba.
The beach concierge Jose Luis Cen is fantastic, and will get you beach chairs or pool chairs if you ask, and is located about 30 metres from the adult pool.
Do not waste your money with H10 privilege, unless you just have to have this designation. I doubt it pays off in what you receive. We never got it, and are glad we did not. It is fairly expensive as well. [Details]

Pleasent experience on Ocean Coral Stay
These are the draw backs. Other than this the resort is really nice. Open buffet was good but we been to better one's. The restaurants were really good. 3 of them needed reservations which can be booked easily by the phone app. The rest its first come first serve or if u upgrade to privilege they give u access to book.
The night shows were nice and the activity team was really nice. Staff is really nice as well

Chambre : Grande et propre, matelas très confortable. Chambre bien insonorisé et du côté familial. Ce fut le meilleur choix car c'était silencieux, pas de bruits de party de piscine et parfait pour relaxer !!!
Restaurants : Tout était excellent sauf le Route 66. Un des burgers au porc ( mini burger) avait du porc cru dedans et pas cuit !! Vérifiez toujours votre viande en voyage pour la cuisson !
Buffet : Tout était parfait, le service, la nourriture était toujours de température adéquate.
Piscine : Je m'y suis peu baignée car les gens réservaient les chaises très tôt le matin. Même seule je n'arrivais pas a avoir de la place !
Plage : superbe plage, oui il y a des algues mais c'est la faute de la nature et non de l'hôtel ! Les gens réservent aussi les chaises mais j'ai toujours réussie à me trouver de la place car j'étais seule. Par contre ça a dû être un casse tête pour une famille de 4 qui ne réservaient pas les chaises à 5am !!
J'ai entendu une famille dire qu'ils réservaient Et à la plage Et à la piscine.. un total de 8 chaises!!!! L'hôtel ne devrait pas tolérer cela ce fut mon seul gros irritant de la semaine !
Employé : tout le monde est très poli, amical et professionnel.
Mike Café : il y a un superbe café avec air climatisé. Les employés sont exceptionnels et vraiment très gentil !!' Mon coup de coeur de la semaine avec d'excellentes pâtisseries !!!

Appreciated having restaurants where there were no reservations, clients had to show up.
Guest service desk was mostly unoccupied and there was no sign saying to go to Privilege Desk. Went there a number of times and did not know I had to go to the Privilege Desk next door.
The valet and concierge services are great. I appreciate the sign listing destinations and what taxi prices should be. [Details]
Victims of Crime
• The room we were assigned had a vent motor affixed to the roof above our bedroom and used for the Privileged restaurant which was two floors below our room. That fan ran 24hrs per day and could be heard in our room making sleeping very difficult. The shower in our room had hot water for about 2 minutes and then it would go cold so we avoided showering. In front of our room was a large deck facing the ocean, but it was a designed smoking area, and it was littered with approximately 50 cigarette butts which had not been cleaned in quite some time. We are nonsmokers. We asked to change rooms and they offered to move us to the far end of the resort in the children's area which was the furthest point from the Privileged area. We declined that ridiculous offer. They then offered another room in the right area, and we moved to that room. This issue took two days of our time to resolve.
• One evening we went out for supper, and we were gone for approximately 80 minutes. When we returned, we noticed that we had received a turn down service. This had not happened in all the days we had been there. When we left the room, we ensured that the windows, sliding door and the room door were all secured and locked. On our return we found that a single $50USD bill had been taken. I watched my wife place the $50 in a small brown envelope, then she put it in a small carryall and then put it in a carrying bag and left it on a bench in our bedroom. When we returned from supper the $50 bill was gone - stolen actually. We contacted security and 3 staff attended our room and conducted a search and asked my wife to write out a statement which she did. They said they would contact us in the morning. They never contacted us and after numerous calls and attending the Privileged customer service desk I was informed that they had reviewed their security cameras and the door lock sensors saying the only people who entered/left the room while we were having supper were the house keeping staff and us. Given that review they said they couldn't do anything about it. I asked for a written statement for what they had done with their investigation and who they spoke to but they would not give me that information. I then asked to speak with a manager, and they referred me to the Guest Services manager. They booked a meeting with him which was scheduled for 11:00 the next day. I attended that meeting but was told the Manager was busy but would be available at 12:30. I returned at that time, but he did not arrive until 1:15pm. He was accompanied by one of his assistants. We spoke of the event and basically, he said he was sorry that this had happened but did not make and attempt to acknowledge that his staff had taken the money and made no offer at any type of restitution.
• Your survey requires that I complete what areas I would recommend but given that the above issues required me to basically lose 3 days of our holiday I just picked one item so the survey would go through. I do not recommend this resort. We have travelled to several Caribbean resorts over the years such as Cancun, Cuba, the Dominican Republic to name a few and have never experienced what we did at the Ocean Coral. Would we return - NO, would we recommend anyone to use this resort - NO. [Details]

The service or complete lack of from our butler was disappointing, as well as the food! But the rest of the staff were friendly and helpful.

Drinks were plentiful, bartender's would always surprise us with interesting cocktails.
Entertainment was so much fun and we were always invited to participate in Zumba, volleyball, soccer and various pool games.
Service was excellent
Beach was beautiful to look at but unfortunately the seaweed arrived early. The resort tried to deal with it that best they could.
All in all I was very happy with the hotel and most certainly the staff.
I would return and encourage others.
