Neither satisfied, nor dissatisfied.
We reached this resort on 11th of september it was a rainy day. We chose this resort because it looked very nice and modern from the outside. The lobby has a great atmosphere to it and staff at the concierge are not well informed (I called the reception to ask if the they have a scale, they told me that bellboys have; however, when I went down to ask the staff at concierge they were like what the hell are you talking about we don't have that. Turns out on the check-out day bellboys actually have a handheld scale.) Buffet is called Las Olas and I would say it is okay, on the other hand for lunch you can use the Italian restaurant located by the lobby (lamb racks were my favourite). For dinner we really enjoyed the food at the Krystal, Japanese and Steakhouse (Krystal has a cool manager named Eduardo very friendly and accomodating. Gotta try the lobster risotto). The drinks are mostly premium, you get Don Julio Reposado for tequila and Chivas Regal 12yrs (or Buchanan) for scotch/whiskey. Entertainment team staff are great. Raul and Alexis are great guys we went to City Nightclub with them and everything was perfect, night shows are enjoyable. The pools are where I had problem with I believe they need a chiller. There are not enough trees to shadow over, hence, the pool water gets pretty warm. I hung out at Trinidad swim-up pool at times, yet I am skeptical about its cleanliness. People would drink like 10 beers and you would never see them leave the pool ( to be honest I don't blame them the closest washroom is by the building and you need to walk a bit to reach it. Other thing about the washroom is, it is damn cold) maybe they can use urine-revealing pool compound or build a washroom close to it. On the other hand infinity pool is great we had a foam party there and it was fun. Gym is horrible I was very dissapointed. I am an athletic person and need at least an hour to spend at gym. Their machines are awful (2 ellipticals and 3 treadmills) and not well-maintained the weight machines make a screeching sound as you use them. The spa looks awkward and squished, yet the jakuzzi was fine (steam room never worked). You have a 24 hr spot in the resort to get food and drinks and it is caller Sports Bar. I call it the de-facto zone becauee it felt like you leave the boundaries of the resort once you enter there. There is a foul smell there every day, it is a mix of hot dogs, buffalo sauce and detergent. First time I entered there I almost puked. They have old sandwiches and when I went there on a saturday night for a quick eats around 2AM (after Xplor Fuego) place was a mess there was nothing to eat and people were drunk out of their mind. The room is pretty cool we had a nice view. I suggest you don't leave your valuables laying around thinking that it is a 5-star luxury resor like I did, one of my bracelets were on the top of the fridge by the coffee maker and it mysteriously DISSAPEARED. Beach is also not bad you get shallow areas and deeper zones where you can see stingrays on the bottom. It is rocky though. Overall we enjoyed our stay; however, not sure if I would return. This was our first Riu experience. We heard lots of negativity towards Riu brand before and I must say some were right about certain things. If you are in the little details like I am you shall clearly see that they are cheap when it comes to that.

Beware!
Had a great two weeks and then - it was over. Was waiting for our airport transportation after checking out when a front desk employee approached us in the driveway to tell us our smoke detector (hard wired on the 10ft high ceiling) had been broken (by us!) and we would not be able to leave until it was paid for. Employee shows me a picture on his cell phone of a smoke detector with the small plastic piece missing from in front of sensor. I actually could see nothing wrong, my husband is an HVAC guy and is always looking at ceilings and roofs so he knew what he was looking at but it was absolutely nothing that we had done (if it was in fact a picture from our room?) Luckily, I had just read another online review a few nights before encapsulating essentially the same thing where a family indeed paid for bogus damage found in their room upon checking out but *just* before their air transportation was scheduled to arrive. Rooms are cleaned daily - I would think that “damage” would be noted as it happens, not five minutes before you leave the property. They also said that the smoke detectors would send notifications that they are offline as soon as something is wrong with them but no one seemed to be able to tell us when that actually happened...if it actually happened...because it didn't happen! My anger went from 0 - 100 in a flash! I 100% accused them of pulling this moronic shakedown on a regular basis because the similarities between the two occurrences was so obvious! Meanwhile, our shuttle had arrived and I'm sure our loud and angry voices were not what they had expected so we were not prevented from leaving and we paid for no bogus damage. Another similarity between our experience and the one I'd read online - neither of us would attend their timeshare spiels. Perhaps that's just a coincidence as I'm not sure what their intended target criteria actually is but I'll be making sure not only to never go back to the ÓLEO but also any hotel affiliated with this hotel group.

Honeymoon
My husband and I chose this place for our Honeymoon because we both wanted to go somewhere that we had not been together, and it was an amazing experience. Concierge Marianna saw that we were booked for the first floor and made sure that was fixed right away and we ended up being on the 5th floor with an amazing view! RAF, Sergio, Hugo, and all the poolside wait staff did a phenomenal job of making sure you were well looked after while you were enjoying swims or lounging by the pool which was also amazing!. Marianna by the pool was so much fun and full of life had such a great personality we always enjoyed when we had her asking us what the question of the day was. The restaurants El Mexicano, Rusato, and the Tiantang restaurant had great food and great staff members. The breakfast buffet in the Chulavista was hands down the best buffet I have ever had ever! There was even one day where they were super busy that they let us sit in the members only section and we got an amazing ocean view! Our maid/housekeeper Luz did a great job of cleaning and making our room feel so cozy like we had never left home everyday. The room service experiences when we did order were also great. The resort it's self is absolutely beautiful and definitely going to be back. Marianna with the glasses was amazing she always remembered us and our room number and was telling the staff so that we didn't have to worry. The drinks were delicious, the live rock band night was one of my fave nights the band was amazing at getting everyone in the room rocking out. We even had a couple times were we would get back to the room with a surprise waiting one night was Happy Anniversary with chocolate covered strawberries before we left was Have great trip with a delicious assortment of desserts including Macaroons! Our Spa experience was romantic and really well done as well Luis even took care of us when he found out we were on our honeymoon. We had the couples massage experience 80min massage together and then in our own sections access to the Sauna and the Steam room which helped us relax. The hydro pool was amazing and after the massage we had access to our own private jacuzzi. The best part was that they didn't even rush you out the door you literally could stay there as long as you wanted. Thank you for the greatest experience and we will definitely be spreading the word and telling people to come here. Most importantly we will definitely be back!
