Riu Palace Costa Mujeres

Well I would not stay at a Riu again. Its our second try and same issues. The noisy hallways that echo when people are walking is crazy. The lounge same problem very loud , buffet ,the acoustics of the whole place. Even the entertainment was hard to understand what they were saying . The food was terrible nothing was ever hot just cold or luke warm. Somethings under cooked and others over. Lots of people we talked to said the samething. Very disappointing. [Details]

February 7 to 14, 2023. A fabulous all-inclusive resort. Everything was in as-new condition. Great food especially the osso bucco at the Italian restaurant and the beef dishes at the Steak restaurant. Very courteous and helpful staff. Really nice pools. Buffet was excellent as well. The water slides were thrilling. The little kids' pool looked perfect. The red and white house wines were surprisingly tasty for an all-inclusive. The three catamaran beach sand was wonderfully soft and sailboats (you-sail) were a real treat. The beach sand was lovely and soft, and very clean except for seaweed one day. [Details]

My husband and I had an incredible vacation at this hotel. The rooms are squeeky clean and modern, the service is excellent, the beach is paradise, and I think I gained 10lbs from eating the delicious food and drinking savoury and refreshing drinks. (My favourite was the white russian. The ones at the pink bar were delicious) I have absolutely nothing negative to report and highly recommend this resort. [Details]

Definitely the best resort we've been at. The beach was powder white sand with minimal seaweed, the food, amazing, the room was spectacular. Huge resort but never had to wait in line for restaurants or buffet. Plenty of pool chairs. Staff was so accommodating and friendly. We will definitely be back. [Details]

Overall I had a great experience at the hotel. It was new, rooms are clean large and had all the necessities. Flatscreen TV was giant, there was a separate area for sitting, and writing. Closet had enough hangers, drawers that enough space for stuff. The shower was fantastic! Pressure was consistent and very good. Food at the hotel was amazing! Great variety in the Buffet, all good quality, and well prepared. À la carte restaurant food was good, but both of us better. Facilities were very decent, gym was small but contained all the necessary equipment, art studio was also very good. Entertainment was good, day one better than night. During the day we were entertained by the fitness instructor Oscar, who was amazing. Beach was incredible, lots of lawn chairs, lots of shade, and beautiful water. Staff was wonderful and warm
Lots of fun activities by the pool (water volleyball, beach volleyball, water polo, water aerobics and much more) - the entire activity team brought a lot of energy, fun and excitement to the pool and kept us entertained all day
Only recommendation would be to have more shade by the beach, there was not much shade there.
In the rooms, would prefer a bit more privacy with the bathrooms especially if traveling with friends etc. [Details]

Amazing beach and water felt like I was in Cuba. The staff were super friendly and helpful when needed. Excellent drinks and food selection were okay, but I know covid 19 has limited the availability, so it's not the hotels fault. Super clean. [Details]

Totally disappointed. This was my second stay in exactly the same resort. The first time I stayed in RIU palace costa Mujeres in 2019 it seemed a piece of paradise on earth to me. I loved that experience so much that I decided to relive it again but unfortunately it was a total disappointment. First, after arrival the mini bar was out of order and toilet was not flushing. I contacted the front desk no one answered. I walked to the front desk they promised to send someone to fix the minibar at least. No one showed up for 45 minutes. I walked there again and the receptionist was so rude that we almost argued and I asked to switch my room. The second room had no air conditioning and smelled like moldy. I walked to the front desk again and they sent someone to fix it. Imagine after 12 hours of trip you are lying in your bed and someone with a ladder trying to fix the A/C!!! It was a terrible night. The day after, I received a phone call from Nimsi who I guess was a manager and finally she was nice enough to promise to switch our room. If it was not for Nimsi, I would have suffered my whole stay. The food was not as good and as diverse as it was the first time. The staff one day forgot to put toilet paper and the other day mini bar was not refilled. The chaos and lack of experienced staff was terrible. The recreational programs were not really anything to brag about and at most could be rated mediocre. I am afraid if management does not take immediate action to fix these issues you are going to lose more customers. [Details]

Location very isolated and expensive to take cab into Cancun. Beautiful endless beach. Sea grass raked up daily but still lots around which is an issue in this area. Didn't keep us from the beach or ocean although was very windy and rough during our visit. Very new, clean and modern hotel. Lots of chairs available by the pool and beach and loved the sun shades.
Endless food choices but typical buffet food, mostly bland and dry. Loved the fresh donuts and fruits. Good Mojitos by the pool. Other bar cocktails were prepackaged overly sweet mixes. [Details]

I am a travel agent, so I look at the resorts a little more critically than others, this one, by far as been one of my new favorites. The Riu Palace does not disappoint. It is a beautiful peaceful setting on a long very quiet beach, only other resort around is the other Riu next door. You can walk for miles on the beach and see no one... beautiful white powder sand on the beach and in the clear waters. No shells though if you are a collector. No beach shoes needed, not a rock around. Tons of shade trees on the beach with enough loungers for everyone and more. No one needs to get up early and reserve a spot, no umbrellas, just find a tree and park yourself down for a wonderful day. Drink service available at the beach, wonderful waiters who run their butts off carrying trays of drinks. 5 great pools, all with tons of shade and chairs, again no need to rush to reserve. Does not matter what time of day you go to either, you will find a chair and umbrella if needed. There are quiet pools, 2 swim up pool areas and an activity pool.1 pool even has a wonderful handicapped ramp access. Food choices in the buffet were amazing, lobster, shrimp, beef, chicken, pork, Mexican, Oriental choices every night, so much fresh wonderful fruit and salads and lets not forget the desserts and the Riu Signature chocolate fountains, this one has milk and white chocolate fountains. Lots of a la carte restaurants, no reservations... only tried the Steakhouse (buffet was so good) and it was very good as well, lots of tender big steaks. The rooms are spacious and kept super clean, a very quiet air conditioner if needed, we kept our patio door open every night for the wonderful breeze and the sounds of the waves close by... very relaxing. Well stocked mini bar, filled daily, if you wanted or needed more, they were right there. Only draw back for some that are travelling with families is the open concept bathrooms. The very large shower and toilet are closed areas, however, there is a tub sitting open in the room, and the double sink and vanity area is also open. So if you have children and need some privacy for changing and dressing this can become an issue. Lots of closet space and dressers to store things, a sitting area in the rooms and a large balcony overlooking either the courtyard (which is very peaceful) or a Partial or Ocean view depending on your room category. They have a couple of bar areas in the evening, the main bar area is a large space with very high ceilings, so tends to be very noisy all the time, hard to have a quiet conversation, but it has a great view looking out over the ocean. As well there is a Coffee bar/desserts area, great Caps and Latte's and pastries almost all hours of the day. Entertainment staff were good, did not bother you if you did not want to join in stuff.. evening entertainment though could use some work. They had live music every night in the theatre, different bands that you could listen to and dance to, however, the lip singing/dancing acts were typical resort stuff and not that great. The Mayan show unfortunately was very boring. The theater is mostly outside and uncovered so if it is raining.. half of you get wet. Did not use the Spa area, but looked in and checked it out, nice area, did have a massage on the beach and the young lady gave a good massage and had obviously had some training.. Overall I would rate it as a strong 5*.. nothing wrong, only a year old, but no issues.. check in was super quick, bags delivered within seconds, all very friendly and smiling helpful staff, great food, great drinks which were always made correctly. For those traveling with little or big kids, this resort shares a water park with the Riu next door, open 10-5, with lifeguards on duty, great slides for all ages, even several husbands enjoyed themselves on the twisting tubes...and its free. Free Wifi throughout the resort, worked even down on the beach.. [Details]

L'hôtel est parfait. Moi et mon copain avons passé 7 jours au Riu palace costa mujeres. La chambre était luxueuse avec un grand bain parfait pour les couples! Le service est impeccable toujours un employé prêt a vous aider. Serveur directement sur la plage, donc pas besoin de se deplacer. Service aux chambres 24h très apprécié et gratuit. [Details]

We love our rooms, it was spacious enough for our double stroller & 3 big luggages. We are a family of 4 (1 Toddler & 1 Infant) traveling to this resort. The resort was clean & staff was friendly. During the day, sun can be very strong but after 5pm the pool is covered with shade due to the sunset behind the building. Waterpark for kids is amazing! [Details]

This hotel is very spacious, clean & family-friendly. I do wish there was more elevators around the resort because it is very needed for strollers and older adults with young kids. We enjoyed our stay because staff was friendly. [Details]

The hotel was beautiful! The staff were amazing! Food was so good! I thought the entertainment was a little lacking. Overall I was very pleased with our stay. A couple of down sides: Noisy - the hallways were very noisy, no sound barriers - we were woken up several times most nights because of people talking, doors closing, etc. Also, one night the fire alarm went off - just once - but enough to wake us up. Also power went out one day, which caused the AC to turn off - I get things happen but it took a long time for the room to cool off again. [Details]

Overall this is an excellent resort and I have all ready been busy telling others about it, Great value for the price!! It is close to the airport and has high end alcohol in all areas. Really enjoyed the no reservations for the restaurants, just put your name on the list and go have a drink while you wait which gives you much more flexibility. WiFi and wait staff at the beach was fantastic! All staff were not only friendly but left you feeling as if you had made a real connection with each and everyone of them.
