Allegro Cozumel was just, well, okay
There are a few good things about the resort and a few negative things. Not a great first impression when we finally got checked in and went to the room with a porter and our door lock wouldn't open for us. He had to radio for maintenance to replace the battery. Don't expect much in terms of food quality when you're there...it was all very pedestrian without a lot of flavour and selection sometimes lacked and we're not event picky eaters. Our biggest complaint would have to be the room itself. As there were 3 of us travelling, we needed a room with 2 beds. We got that request met but it was two very firm beds located about a foot apart from each other. Also, we found the rooms quite dated and small. Don't get there thinking that you will have a lot of space to enjoy. On the plus side, the beach was very nice but please note that there is a lot of sea grass in at least 50% of the cordoned off area. Pretty good for snorkeling around, if you're into that, but not great if you're a true beach and water fan. The beach was closed the one day we were there due to a crocodile siting by the lifeguard...I didn't even know that was possible in that area. Overall, I believe that the resort is in need of an update to be more modern. This was our first time traveling to Mexico and Cozumel and although we would return to Cozumel, we would not stay at the Allegro Cozumel again. There are too many other options available to choose from on the island with higher ratings. Although the resort is rated as a 4, I think I would list it more as a 3-3.5.

Review - Westin Cozumel Hotel, April 2026
Visited the pleasant, modern Westin Cozumel hotel with a senior friend for 1 week in April 2026. Had booked our stay as an all-inclusive package, with airport transfers and airfare from Canada Our room had 2 queen beds, comfortable mattresses, comfy pillows & soft bed linens, art work, dark curtains, air-conditioning. Wide glass-front balcony had 2 chairs and a table where we could sit to enjoy the beautiful sea views. Suggestion: have extra stands or small moveable tables in room for guests to put their suitcases, bags or other items on, to avoid placing on the floor. Also, recommend that rooms & bathrooms have more wall hooks or small shelving for user convenience. Would appreciate having table lamps by the head of the beds for easier reading comfort. Recommend that the hotel's large sliding glass doors have some type of visible decals or stickers on the side glass sections to avoid bumping into the non-moving door sections. Plenty of bath towels were available. Good water pressure for shower and toilet. Housekeeping staff did a good job to keep things tidy for us. Strong Wi-Fi. Enjoyed the selection of well-stocked in-room mini bar beverages, lots of bottled water and the coffee machine. It was easy to book our vacation excursions through the tour representative available at specific times in the lobby, e.g. Barrecito taco & tequila experience, Atlantis Submarine. Front door staff and reception team were always able to help us with questions, or to hail a taxi whenever needed , and cheerfully provided some good general suggestions for visitors, e.g. the Cozumel Museum. Other than on one evening, [excellent guitar musician], there wasn't any regularly scheduled live night time entertainment; however, reception or other staff could advise guests where to go for local music clubs, etc. Purchased some nice Mexican made jewelry from the local vendor who had a sales stall set up in the hotel lobby. We do not dive, but did swim and snorkel a few times, where we saw plenty of colourful fish in the clear water right by the hotel's pier. Beach is small [we understand that this is a hotel, not a resort] but was easy to enter the water by the pier - adequate for us. There were 3 restaurants on site: Gaviotas for all meals [with waterside views most days], Cuzamil for dinner by reservation & the Main floor Pool Area snack bar for afternoon light food items and drinks. Two well-maintained pools onsite: [1] Ground floor pool which was sometimes noisy and busy during the daytime hours when many cruise ship day-trippers used the hotel's pool & beach area as their port excursion, [2] The Upper Roof Level adult only pool - which had a small bar staffed by efficient staff: absolutely incredible roof-top views both to the west [lovely sunsets] and to the east overlooking the green island of Cozumel itself. This roof-top pool was somewhat shallow but most people just lounged in the pool quietly. The poolside wall shower wasn't working but this was brought to attention of the staff. Nice hotel workout gym facility - with extra towels and water bottles available. Easily accessible snorkelling, kayak equipment from the Dive Hut by the small but nice sandy beach area. This is not a large beach by any means, but there was virtually no sargassum seaweed at all which made for a pleasant swimming experience. This hotel is located a short taxi ride from the downtown area, not much to see within short walking distance. Visit the cute, tropical decor Key Lime Pie store and the privately owned restaurant across the street, for a change. The Westin Hotel grounds, pier, walkways and beach were kept clean, tidy and well maintained - appreciation to all the maintenance and gardening staff for their hard work particularly in hot weather. Would also like to especially thank the cheerful and caring restaurant team at the Gaviotas Restaurant who really helped to make our Westin Cozumel stay a memorable vacation, including delicious caffe lattes, nicely presented food platters, hot items, the efficient omelette chef & an incredible "Have a nice trip" surprise cake on our last day; the restaurant team members & chefs were able to easily accommodate my food chocolate / cacao allergy with alternate delicious meal options. Includes: Capitan Moguel Jorges, Cajera: Vanessa, Meseros: Rosendo, David, Guillermo, Israel, Bartender Wilder, and any of others whose name I have forgotten. I hope to come back to the Westin Cozumel hotel again in the future if possible.

Wonderful Vacation
We had an awesome trip and would definitely go back, One adult with three children ages 10, 8, and 6. The entertainment team they had was excellent especially the one for kids, Arbey, Isis, Alejandro and many others. The quality to price ratio was very good. So if you keep that in mind I'm sure you will enjoy this resort. A very nice resort for the price, if you are the type of person that expects to get Filet Mignon when you eat at McDonalds than this place is probably not for you :) I've stayed at Sandals Negril which is a way better resort and I loved it, but this was probably a better value when considering the price. If you don't like rocky beaches Cozumel in general may not be the right destination for you, the beach at the resort is very beautiful but you need water shoes to get waist deep in the ocean or you will have sore feet because it's very rocky. The snorkelling in Cozumel is great but the ocean is a little rougher than Jamaica. I've heard this from multiple people about Cancuun and Riviera maya as well, but there is more to see, much more coral and fish. The rooms are nice but the bathroom could use a little updating. They could probably use one more a la carte restaurant, but the food was good in general especially the breakfast buffet, their guacamole is amazing and their Nachos. Only 2 pools and not big pools but very nice and lots of activities in the main pool. No public jacuzzi though, but I didn't even notice until 5 days in to the trip when I saw a private one walking by a room, because we were having such a good time. They had a Mexican and then a Caribbean night while we were there which were really nice. They put lots of tables next to the main pool and theatre area and had nice ethnic shows and outdoor buffet. Staff were really nice and helpful. When you arrive they offer you to sit through a presentation in exchange for funny money. It takes about 2 hours including breakfast, they are not very pushy if you say no and if you are planning on doing excursions it's definitely worth it, we got $300 of "Funny Money" to spend at the resort or on excursions. So we were able to use it for snorkelling boat tour and Dolphin Discovery. I had read reviews beforehand that said they weren't pushy or aggressive, which was true or I would have skipped the presentation. My kids had a great time and want to go back next year!

very nice small resort
This is a small resort and different from the multi pool, long beaches and huge buffet types we usually go to. Pick up from the airport was fast and easy. As we had an early flight we got to the hotel around 11:15. We were told we couldn't check-in until 3:00 so had to hang around in our travel clothes until then. We were able to have lunch and refreshments though. The hotel was well kept, nice rooms, cleaned spotlessly everyday, and a balcony with a view of the ocean. Breakfast was at the buffet by the ocean and served the usual fare, tasty though. Lunch could also be had here as well and the paella specially made a couple of times was delicious. There is also a beach hut with shrimp and fish tacos and other sea food which was amazing. Dinner was at the main hotel and there was an Italian, Mexican and Japanese restaurant. No reservations were necessary and we were seated quickly, the Italian was our favourite. There is also a beach party night with food and a managers reception with food on another evening. Food was excellent everywhere. Always plenty of loungers available at the beach. Actually there is no real beach as such but you enter the water through a rocky entrance. Water shoes make it easier, but it is somewhat awkward. there are some ladders at the other side but storm damage meant that only one was usable. There is good snorkeling as soon as you enter the water Entertainment is limited at night but there was always something happening by the main pool bar and people to mix with, we made some nice friends. Staff are fabulous and seem genuinely pleased to serve you. Some of the best we have met. We will definitely be returning here again.
