Barcelo Maya Palace

We just returned from our one week. Stay at Barcelo Maya Palace and I honestly have nothing negative to say about this resort. We really enjoyed our stay, and it was definitely our favourite resort that we have been to. Thus far we travelled with our three children, aged 8, 5 and 4 and 2 other friends without children. There truly is something for everyone at this resort. The pools are huge and a very good temperature for cooling off. The beach was amazing and definitely our favourite part. We swam with sea turtles every day right from the beach. No need to feed them - they will come just be patient. Once we found one, it would swim around with us for hours. The snorkelling was amazing. You can rent snorkel gear from the resort for one hour a day, but we opted to bring our own, and we were so glad that we did because we spent hours snorkelling every day. The water was so crystal clear blue and warm, definitely warmer than the pools. The beach was Sandy with some large rock spots, but the rocks could easily be avoided. We sat outside of palace beach and never felt it necessary to travel down beach for the “sandy-er” spots.

We learned about the chair issue right away on our first day when we could not get chairs by the beach or anywhere by the pools by 8 AM. We did end up finding some chairs by the kids pool that first day and my kids ended up with a pretty bad sunburn from too much sun despite hats and sunscreen. From the second day on, we sent our early riser Friend to get chairs by the beach. It's unfortunate but reserving chairs is pretty much the only way to ensure that you will have somewhere to sit and it was very important for us to have some shade with three little kids, that being said we were always there to use our chairs by 8-9 am and would spend the days there. We did see a lot of chairs being reserved that there were never people using which is a little frustrating.

The buffets were on par with other all inclusives we've been too. The food was good and all of the service was amazing. The buffets were huge, almost a little bit overwhelming with how many options there were, we loved, having fresh omelettes, made, and crêpes every morning for breakfast. For our à la carts, we had no issues making reservations. We ate at four restaurants. Brasserie Tokyo, caribe and Rodizio. They were all really good. Our favourites were rodizio and Tokyo but the other two were really great too. Drinks were always mostly good, the odd badly made one but consistently good. Palace lobby bar definitely made the best drinks. Service was always quick everywhere.

Our room was perfect, very spacious, and we loved that The two couches turned into single day beds. When we arrived, they had the daybeds already made up into beds for our kids. There was more than enough room for our family of five with two doubles and the two daybeds. You could definitely fit an adult in the daybeds. I slept in one, one night and was perfectly comfortable. We loved that there was a tub in the room because our kids had a bath every day. A little bit humid and damp feeling some days but that is to be expected in Mexico. Our room was always cleaned and fridge stocked to the max daily. The room cleaner even changed our bedding nearly everyday with fresh sheets. We made sure to tip well everywhere and we were definitely taken care of well. By the second day our breakfast waiter had our large table for 8 ready to go and new our drink orders by heart.

Never had any issues with our bracelets opening the room doors.

This is a huge resort - didn't bother us we preferred that but we did 15-20k steps every single day. I came home and didn't gain a single pound [Details]

This hotel is considered one of the best in Rivera Maya. The huge territory is beautifully maintained and immersed in greenery. You can always find a cool shade to shelter from the hot sun. On the territory walk nasuas and iguanas, which gratefully treat bananas and apples.

The beach is always clean and well-maintained, the sand is not heated in the heat and it is comfortable to walk barefoot at any hour of the day, as well as play beach volleyball.

The water in the sea is unusually gentle, you can spend hours in it without going ashore, do not forget only sunscreen! There is a beautiful reef, and for fans of snorkeling, its a great place. Turtles come to the shore and are hungry for treats, take a banana in the water to get an unforgettable experience when feeding the turtles!:)))

The cafeteria and restaurant of this hotel can be written about forever! The food is an 11 out of 10. Such a variety of seafood, meat, vegetables, cheese, fruits, and sweets is hard to find in the most ultra-expensive hotels in the country. Every day something new, but always super tasty. there are separate diet tables - gluten-free, lactose-free, vegan, keto, baby food, etc.

It was an unforgettable vacation, definitely recommend it to all my clients to visit! [Details]

Be informed… at check in go to guest service to be able to get your TWO first A la cartes but you need your room number don't wait u til the next day. otherwise you can only book one each day. If you have a large group it's impossible to get in before 8pm for dinner. Ask questions and get names. We had kids in our group and had late meals not good. Everyone saves pool and beach chairs so get up early if you want that. [Details]

I had a fantastic time at Barcelo Maya Palace. The staff is kind and friendly, especially towards kids. The food was good. The beach, pools, and gardens are well-maintained. However, the equipment in the room was a bit outdated. I would love to return here. [Details]

Barcelo palace, tropical, colonial, caribe and beach are 5 sister resorts side by side. If you stay at palace you can use all restaurants and facilities for all 5 resorts. If you stay at any other resort you can use all restaurants and facilities of 4 resorts except palace. It's a huge place as they all look like one giant resort. At the end there's another sister resort barcelo rivira which is adult only a nicer and newer building not included. They have open top shuttle busses running between the resorts every 15 minutes which is fun at night after dinner. It's huge but never over crowded you can always find pool and beach beaches. Rooms are bid with big washrooms. Daytime pool has alot of activities basically the whole day but night entertainment is nothing special if any. There are a lot of restaurants and most of them are nice but you have to make reservations which you have to go everyday to make a reservation you can't make two or three reservations at once except the first day you are allowed to make two reservations at once. The buffet huge selections but almost everything has meat so good luck if you are vegetarian. For vegetarian people there's always salad if you can handle gor a week . There are some cooked vegetables but not much. The internet is a hit and miss either it doesn't work orvwhen works it has pretty strong signal. It's very safe to go from one resort to another at day and night but things ho missing if you are not careful at the beach or pool area or even your room. My nike shoes went missing from the we had everything together when we eere leaving the pool everything was there but my shoes were missing. My hoodies went missing from the room so you need yo be careful with your stuff. The resort are older and we lost air-condition at our room for almost 24 hours I spent much of the day at the room with no AC because I was told to stay at the room someone will come and fix it after wasting hours and a few phone calls I was told someone would come in the afternoon and I have to be at the room. In the afternoon same story after waiting for couple of hours and a few phone calls I was told that the problem was not at the room AC it was the whole building didn't have AC and need to be in the room.I just waited the whole day at the room for no reason other than that the service is good. great trip overall, amazing grounds beach and snorkelling. few issues only - buffet waiter service was extremely slow during busy times, better to get your own drinks during peak hours. after check in, friends' bracelets did not work to access room and they also had a soaking wet chair in their room, and the tv remote was missing from our room- it took a few visits to the front desk to fix things but wet chair was never resolved. long pants dress code for restaurants was disappointing for my boyfriend, he's not accustomed to the extreme heat and even nice tommy hilfiger shorts were not accepted there. the selection of shows and entertainment not as good as other resorts but was ok. Overall the experience was good. I'd give it a solid 7/10. There were a few times room service didn't clean our friends room, and a few times they missed ours and didn't refill fridges. Also room service took the guard for my razor and threw it out, took all of our plastic bags we had set aside, and even took some sea shells away(which I was going to bring home for a gift) room service is 4/10. Went to the Palace hotel for spring break with the kids March 16-23.

Don't listen to the complaints, this is one of the best resorts we've been to in Mexico!

The checkin was easy and quick. Not 10 minutes but we were taken in a normal amount of time and processed fast.
The room was simple and were pleasantly surprised it had 2 sofa beds as well as 2 twin beds. Everything worked and the room got cleaned daily. The room faced the garden and we had deer come out every morning to feed right outside our balcony. Very cool!
The food at the resort was great! The variety of places to eat was perfect for the week. The buffets had a good selection and since there was 2 connected buffets you could chose more then just the norm.
The Restaurants at the resort got booked fast and many people were waiting for cancelations so ideally book yours when you get in for the best selection! The French was the best, the seafood was second and the steakhouse was the least favourite of ours!
The pool was massive and the sun beds did get booked up prety fast so either get yours early or go to the beach. There were a lot of sun beds at the beach and plenty of shade. There was lots of fun things to do at the pool. The entertainment crew was active and hopping around the pool and the beach all day long! The bars were great and would serve you anything from margaritas to cappuccino.
The beach was rocky and at times there was some seaweed wash ashore but the crew got rid of it fast! There was an area where there were no rocks at all and it made it easy to go in and out of the water. We spent the majority of our time there. The fish come to you prety quick and you could snorkel right there and see variety's of fish and even turtles. Best videos we made are with the turtles.
The resort it self is very clean and constantly being looked after. No issues with that at all. You could walk across all the 6 barcelo resorts and enjoy the views or just jump in the pools of the next resort. In the evenings there was lots to do there as well. From the shows to the mall, We played bawling in the mall one evening when it was raining.
There is a fully covered pathway that takes you across all the resorts for when it rains and you want to explore. I liked that very much.
Check out was a bit long but again not unexpected. We were told to get ready for 11:45. We checked out on time and we're waiting for the bus while sitting at the lobby bar. Bus came a bit late but we were the last stop before the airport. No issues there….

Very disappointed with you beach. At no time were we informed that your beach is built artificially and its full of corals in the water. Not knowing about this I cut myself when entering the water. I feel that this information should be indicated to prevent more accidents. When I reported my mishap to customer service they admitted that in fact the beach was artificially built . The person took our room number and that was it. At NO during our stay did the hotel checked as to how I was doing. This is very poor service to your guest. [Details]

It was a good holiday, however for that price the food couod be better , the desserts were alll horrible , no one ever finished a whole dessert , just a bite and leave it . If you cooked something like this at home you would throw it out .
There is zero sugar in them . Or zero chocolate .
People cN over look a dirty towel in their room or other small things but to have 99% of buffet deserts be that gross is i excusable . For the buffet food , out of 100 dishes there should be more than just 5 that are ok.
When people say the dons is good , the presentation is great but that doesn't make up for all the things you have to spit out . You pay that much and have to spit it out , we aren't fussy people . There is always someting , but there should be more .
Guacamole and cheese and tacos should be separate to not hold the line ups .
Red drinks in dispensers at the bars are horrible .
Quit trying to cut corners . We notice .

To have a hot French fry station would make all the horrible food go away. Such simple things they could do .
Maybe have 1 good dessert.
As well there is never anyone to answer phones when you call the front desk.
One night our safe was locked out : it took over an hour for someone to come . 10 calls and I went to front the guy disappeared behind the wall and never came back.
You are ON your own at this resort !!!!
The maid also stold our kids bangle tines day treats .
There was no mix up
She took them. She gave them back to the manager .
I asked every day and to the manger to have house keeping only put clean towels
They kept wiping everything and touching my stuff .

The beach is not natural . It was artificially built and it's full of corals in the water. I cut myself on a foot unpin entering the water. Shame that this information is not mentioned [Details]

Our family of four spent 8 days at Barcelo Maya Palace at spring break. We absolutely loved it and were sad to leave. Our room was clean and comfortable, the staff is lovely, the beach is gorgeous and the food was wonderful. The a la carte restaurants were a treat and the buffets had delicious food with lots of choice. We especially appreciated the traditional foods, but the youngest also appreciated the “fun” foods. It was easy to book excursions that left directly from the lobby. We had a wonderful, relaxing stay, and I miss the bliss of reading on a shady lounger on the postcard-perfect beach. [Details]

From the moment we checked in, the staff made us feel welcome. Every staff member greets you as they walk past with a warm Hola! After the first night, we asked to switch rooms to the top floor as it was noisy for us. Without hesitation, we were accommodated. The restaurants were all very good with great service. The stand out was at the Hacienda buffet, and his name is Lucio! After we ate one meal in his section, he always looked for us when we walked in and had a table ready for us. He got to know us and shares my love for habanero salsa. Every day he had a special habanero salsa made and ready for me. He memorized our drinks and when my wife and I had shots of tequila, he brought our daughter a ‘shot' as well. We shared stories of baseball, travel and he told us about his family and the Cancun area. The Santa experience in the lobby and on the beach was spectacular as well!! We will definitely be back!! It a big complex, which combines 6 hotels into single area.
There are variety of pools including laps pools as well.
Basketball, ping pong and other activities are also available.
There is a scuba diving center onsite which provide a wide range of services from the basic intro to advanced cenotes and Cozumel trips.
Gorgeous beach, you can snorkel with turtles ever days.
Our daughter loved the kids club.
The room is nice size, clean.
Beds are quite comfortable. The food was ok but nothing special. We only used the buffet. There is a mall and casino onsite as well as "theater" with nightly shows. If you need WI-FI access you'll need to pay extra and quality of connection was not consistent. [Details]

We have just returned from an incredible 14 day stay at the Barcelo Palace. The facilities are everything one could wish for in a resort. The pools are huge, clear and refreshing with lots of space for everyone not to feel crowded. We used the lap pool daily. The basketball courts, ping pong, bocce ball, pool tables fooseball and children's water park were always well used. The beach is fabulous and super family friendly, shallow enough to just stand in to cool off , watch all the fish and turtles or snorkel without fear. We estimated the average age between 35-45. So many families as so well suited to families with the junior suites, incredible restaurants that had everything to spoil guests with and the children's pool. So much fun. The à la carte restaurants were spectacular. We would recommend this hotel for all ages and stages. [Details]

The Hotel was big and beautiful with smiling and happy receptionist in the hotel lobby. Food in buffet are excellent and servers are awesome! A server named Angelica .Poot was so nice to me and helping me on the table, helping me carry my food and bringing me juice, she did served our table for a week whenever we go to Hacienda Buffet and she reserve our tables upon seing us,Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. The Rooms in our hotel is so beautiful as well.3 other restaurants ( Caribe,Rodizio and Japanese rest.) Fantastic beaches and scenery, great staff in the resort and great adventure. We had a great adventure at Barcelo Maya Palace, the hotel associates( workers) have excellent customer service,always greeting and smiling,but the best part is the buffet servers, there is a server named Angelica.Poot and she has the best and excellent customer service i ever experience, she helped me and my wife everyday for a week,bringing our favourite fruit drinks,fruits,eggs in our table and very polite with a smile when she greets. We see her at Hacienda Buffet. Our hotel room is also managed very well by the staff working in the area, If i will have the chance to go for a great vacation again, I will surely come back at Barcelo Maya Palace Resort Hotel. This place is great if you have children. There are 3 water parks on the property, which is enough to satisfy the needs of little rascals.

One negative experience worth mentioning was at the front desk, at check-in. Before the arrival, I have requested first floor room (we have 2 strollers), preferably by the pool. At arrival, the girl who didn't speak English gave us a room on the 3-rd floor in the farthest building from the pool. After 20 minutes of back and forth, and calling her manager, the issue was resolved, but she was anything but helpful or understanding.

Family of five, kids are 8, 4, and 2. Loved everything - the beach, the pools, the restaurants, the water playgrounds, the room, the buildings, the accessibility. Most of all, loved all the greenery. The whole resort is one dense garden. Beach is covered in palm trees. Covered walkways connecting the whole resort are a very unique and very useful feature. Most beautiful resort we've seen. We visited the Hotel from April 12 to the 19 with our two grand daughters ages 13 and 8. we had a very nice vacation with lots to keep them busy. We found the Hotel to be far from Cancun for any excursions as it took us one and one half hours bus ride to get to the Marina. If you do not book an ocean view room it is a long walk to the lobby or any of the restaurants. You must pay for WIFI as the free WIFI is only in certain areas for a limited time. Only English TV show is CNN so on a rainy day nothing for kids to watch. We found the evening shows started too late at about 9;30 pm. After being in the sun and pool etc. all day the 8 year old was too tired to stay up for the night shows. The pillows were very comfortable but the mattress covers were very noisy whenever any one turned over during the night. Was great to not have anyone trying to sell you a time share. Beach is rocky in front the of the Palace resort you must walk over by the Colonial or Tropical for better beach. [Details]

We went there for March Break. Great resort, a bit on the pricy side. Great beach and pool, great rooms, clean and roomy with a balcony with amazing views of either gardens or pools. Average food at bugffets but great restaurants (need to reserve early), average internet service. Very large resort and very American-style: grand extravagant buildings and gardens, loud music and little character. that being said, convenient place for family - kids loved it. [Details]

The Barcelo Palace is a five star hotel and it deserves the rating. The complex is clean and well maintained. The beach is kept is excellent condition - it is cleaned and raked each morning. The gardens and grounds around the Palace are beautiful and kept pristine. The rooms are very nice and spacious. We were fortunate to be in the Oaxaca building with one of the rare rooms right on the beach. There are approximately 700 people working at the Palace and the service is outstanding. The beach is incredible and it is possible to snorkel right in front of the hotel and swim with the sea turtles, see rays and a variety of fish. There are numerous a la carte restaurants and although you can use any of the offerings in the other complexes, we found the ones in the Palace to be our favourites. The buffets are immense and offer a wide variety of food. I would highly recommend the Palace and would definitely plan to return. [Details]

I guess we had some bad luck with our room initially. It was noisy by mrchanical room. It took us a while at front desk to reach some agreement. Next room was also noisy but they were able to fix it. Slow and understuffed front desk. [Details]

The staff were friendly, helpful and ready to please. The room was clean, comfortable and very spacious. Perhaps the nicest vacation we have ever taken. We were pleased with the buffet items and loved the specialty restaurants. The resort was large enough that we could walk either in the open or under cover and see everything. [Details]
