Beware!
Had a great two weeks and then - it was over. Was waiting for our airport transportation after checking out when a front desk employee approached us in the driveway to tell us our smoke detector (hard wired on the 10ft high ceiling) had been broken (by us!) and we would not be able to leave until it was paid for. Employee shows me a picture on his cell phone of a smoke detector with the small plastic piece missing from in front of sensor. I actually could see nothing wrong, my husband is an HVAC guy and is always looking at ceilings and roofs so he knew what he was looking at but it was absolutely nothing that we had done (if it was in fact a picture from our room?) Luckily, I had just read another online review a few nights before encapsulating essentially the same thing where a family indeed paid for bogus damage found in their room upon checking out but *just* before their air transportation was scheduled to arrive. Rooms are cleaned daily - I would think that “damage” would be noted as it happens, not five minutes before you leave the property. They also said that the smoke detectors would send notifications that they are offline as soon as something is wrong with them but no one seemed to be able to tell us when that actually happened...if it actually happened...because it didn't happen! My anger went from 0 - 100 in a flash! I 100% accused them of pulling this moronic shakedown on a regular basis because the similarities between the two occurrences was so obvious! Meanwhile, our shuttle had arrived and I'm sure our loud and angry voices were not what they had expected so we were not prevented from leaving and we paid for no bogus damage. Another similarity between our experience and the one I'd read online - neither of us would attend their timeshare spiels. Perhaps that's just a coincidence as I'm not sure what their intended target criteria actually is but I'll be making sure not only to never go back to the ÓLEO but also any hotel affiliated with this hotel group.

Dont look at another resort !!!
Food was great, the hotel was impeccable. Night cleaning crews were literally on their hands and knees with a scraper making sure the floors were spotless in our altitude building and the main building every night. If I could remember the man's name I would mention him here. Front desk in altitude building were extremely friendly and were great with English. (Again would mention a name if I could remember, I was afterall on vacation) Jahir (bartender in altitude bar) gets a special shout out from me for being a perfect bartender and an all around great guy. Andres, Renne, and other guys and girls from the outdoor entertainment staff were a blast. They made the volleyball and water sports super fun. Also the gentlemen working the bar at the lounge just off the main lobby were extremely nice and helpful. We made friends during our stay, we had a group of about 15 on that lounge deck almost evernight and they kept up with our needy requests quite easily. Only thing in would reccomend is 2 more beach staff, more chairs and a few more canopys. I belive these small expenses would go a long way with people comfort and service.(although I am not complaining about the service at all. It was very impressive) All in all I highly recommend reflect Cancun and spa and the extra money you pay for the altitude tower goes a long long way.. trust me ! Food is great. Staff is great. Location is perfect. We will be back ! Shayse Vanessa

Amazing Hotel!!!!
We just returned from a quick weekend getaway at the Melody Maker. We had an amazing time, please disregard the negative reviews, this place is AWESOME!!! If you want sun, sand and a great time, this is the place for you. The room was great, we upgraded to a suite on a higher floor for about $15/night and it was well worth it. No balcony, but the whole entire wall of glass doors opened up and it was better than a balcony. We had a view of the lagoon and skywheel. We could see the alligators at night swimming around. We have always booked beachfront, but we were glad we booked a different view this time. The pools are great, 2 swim-up bars. The bottom pool is VIP on the weekends, meaning you had to put your towels on the side of the pool, not in a chair, but not a big deal. They offered bottle service for the chairs/nooks, but we declined and the staff was not pushy about it. The bottom pool was a big party, lots of great music and on Friday afternoon they brought in a full rock band....it was a full concert at noon on a Friday, it dosesn't get any better!!!!! The downsides: took a minute to get drinks, but the swim up bar was packed so that it to be expected. The beach had seaweed and the waves were a little rough, but it was way better than the beach at home (oh by the way, there is NO beach at home, so is that really a downside??) The food is so-so; but I could eat fries for 4 days if I had too, (did I mention there is no beach at home??????) They have a "food truck" by the pool for lunch which was great!!! We walked into downtown Cancun (about 5 km) easy, safe walk. Tons of police and security. Loads of people downtown!! Lots of people "selling" their club/restaurant, but were respectful when we said 'no thanks". The staff and people of Cancun are amazing. We felt welcome in their country the minute we landed. No one hustled us ever for hair braiding, drugs, etc (unlike some other countries we have traveled to). If you want a relaxing, super chill vacation, with children and grandma, probably not the place for you, but if you want a fun getaway with amazing people, then this is the place for you. We will definitely be back!!!!

TARGETED / ASSAULTED / ROBBED ON HOTEL PROPERTY
This story has to be told to every single source. PLEASE SHARE WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY!! I arrived at the Costa Cancun around 2:30pm Nov 1st 2019. I've traveled here a number of times (over 10) but it's gotten very very scary and unsafe. First off, if you decide to book at this resort after you've read this-you sure have some balls. But please be very careful here. The security guards are aggressive and abusive. I truly believe the work in cahoots with the police and are paid off. They called the police on me for breaking a lamp when I had a little too much to drink, they beat me up gave me a black eye and then took me to a Mexican prison for the night. Inside the prison I was handcuffed to the bars and slapped, kicked and punched by the guards. They handcuffed me so tight that my wrists are still bleeding 7 days later. After I finally was able to convince one of the guards to let me out, because I'm Canadian and broke a lamp and I do not belong in jail for that, they took me into a little room and sat me down with all of my stuff (wallet, phone and watch) inside a plastic bag. They opened the bag and revealed an empty wallet, which had $500 when they initially took it from me. They said if want my stuff back I have to go to the bank and take out $500 usd MORE and pay them. I said ok ok ok I will pay, please let me go. They gave me my credit card back and I ran for my life. I never trusted them to let me be free. It was the most traumatic experience I've ever had. Mexico should be black listed for canadians to travel to. YOU HAVE NO RIGHTS IN THIS COUNTRY. BE VERY VERY CAREFUL WHEN DECIDING TO VACATION HERE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE ALONE. I booked an ocean front room and emailed them approximately 1 month in advance. It took them 3 weeks to send their first reply, and my request was simply to get into a room that had unobstructed views of the ocean (this place has NO VIEWS OF TURQUOISE WATER) it's located in the bay with dirty looking lake water splashing up. Never waste your hard earned money on ocean front here. There are NO balconies, no chairs to sit out and watch the ocean. There is only a patio door that opens. They assured me that they would put notes into the system to make sure I would get my request accommodated. Upon arrival, I was put in room 207. Where you can't even see the ocean because it's blocked with 12-15 palm trees situated so close to one another, they're touching. Now I'm not exactly sure why certain people have said this is a large pool area.... they must have not travelled anywhere else. I get away quite often and I have to say, it's actually pretty small. And there's only one. The beach as basically everyone states is purely awful. Dirty murky water and saying it's tiny would be giving too much credit. There's about 500 sq ft of sand. I've been to nicer beaches in ALBERTA lmfao. The food? Omg .... i read one review and the lady said you would starve here.. i thought to myself, come on. Impossible. She really wasn't far off. It's very very bland and VERY LITTLE choice. The buffet is laughable. Its day 3 and I haven't even able to get into any restaurants. I came here alone too. So I won't bother trying anymore. The entertainment is simply awful. They do pushup contests and water volleyball during the day. The music is for 90 year olds, it's elevator, music all day and night around the bars. ALL BARS OPEN AT 11AM AND CLOSE AT 11PM. NO DRINKS ARE AVAILABLE BEFORE OR AFTER. There are no swim up bars. One beach bar. One lobby bar.
