What a Haven!

, Toronto, ON
2023-09-19
Fantastic experience from check-in to check-out. Very kind staff. Paco was amazing in making sure that our needs were met at all times. The restaurants of the hotel were amazing, especially TAHANI. The rooms are clean. The grounds are well kept. The pools are clean and well maintained. The shower water have a bit of an odour but nothing major. There was construction happening when we were there but it wasn't much of a nuisance to us. The beach was overgrown with flora and there was seaweed but that's normal because we visited during seaweed season. Overall the experience was superb. I would highly recommend getting the Serenity Club packages as it makes all the difference in your experience. The partial oceanview swim-up rooms are the best way to go in my opinion. Big thanks to Haven's staff for their great service. [Details]

Price and quality don't line up

, North York, ON

It's a beautiful hotel and more expensive then others. The quality of food and service does not meet the high price.
Food is mediocre- only 4 restaurants- Mexican steakhouse and Asian restaurant are the only good ones.
The buffet is okay- nothing special- the same everyday- a lot of food is kept behind glass and staff have to serve it to you which is kind of annoying.
The entertainment is nothing special
This part of Mexico gets a lot of seaweed so the beach/water is a bit messy
It's a beautiful hotel and the pools are very nice, it just didn't meet my high standards based on how much we paid [Details]

First all inclusive experience

, Barrie, ON
2021-12-29
Hope my honest review will be well received. As first time all inclusive peeps I hope this review can be helpful for someone else who hasn't been to an all inclusive before.

Overall, we had a great time! We found the room to be immaculate and the housekeeping had great attention to detail. The room service was quick and overall it was average.

We spent all our time at the rectangle pool and found the swim up bar to be the best choice. The servers walking around took on average 15-30 minutes to get a drink back to us and we could often get a drink at the bar and finish it before we got our order (this did make for a steady stream of alcohol lol).

We always had great seats and it seemed like everyone was always able to find a spot to relax for the day.

I found the beach to be nice and well maintained. The tractor is there lots and working on the seaweed. However we didn't spend too much time there. I think I would have found the tractor presence a drawback due to noise and smell.

With all of this in mind, the big drawback for us was the food quality, safety, and consistency. We are big foodies and were recommended to go to Haven based on the food. The only restaurant worth noting from my perspective is Olios. This was truly great. The others were average and nothing to rave about from my experience. The food was very inconsistent (ie same dish served very differently at the same meal or following day). The buffet was quite good but we found the food safety to be concerning (ie. we observed the servers using utensils to handle raw meat and then serving food to patrons). Food temperatures were also a bit concerning in terms of food safety. I do think if you choose carefully you would be ok and overall the food was average there as well. I leave this comment for the fellow foodies out there looking for new, exciting food experiences like I was; personally, it missed the mark in this area. The ambiance in each restaurant is beautiful and the service was great.

The pool entertainment at times can be a bit dull. A couple of days they promoted a pool party so I was expecting something a bit more upbeat in terms of the vibe and music but it was the same 10 songs. I did find at times what they promoted didn't match what they delivered in terms of the vibe and experience.

The entertainment each night was average but the entertainment crew who worked at the resort was very interactive and engaging. You could tell they were committed to creating memorable experiences for the visitors. They work so hard!

We did speak to several other couples there who had been to other resorts and most said they would choose the other resorts over Haven. Some however did say this was a superior choice.

We upgraded to serenity and Alex was AMAZING! He truly went above and beyond for us and others we spoke with and he was so great. I would encourage you to request him.

Overall, we felt like this was a great first choice for an all inclusive and I would recommend it to someone looking for a quieter resort where you can enjoy a combination or relaxation, fun, and a beautiful environment. It is also very photo friendly- great for Instagram pics haha. I wouldn't recommend this resort for someone looking for a party spot or someone looking for new and amazing food experiences. All staff were so lovely and went the extra mile to create a memorable experience. I would go back for a short stay but most likely will choose other resorts in the future. This is all being said with having no other resort experiences to compare to so maybe after I check some others out, I'll be back haha.

I hope this is helpful for those choosing between multiple resorts. My intention in sharing is to help others make educated decisions about where they travel to. This is just my experience and I know each person will have different experiences.

Sorry one more thing to note about the odour in rooms that folks talk about. It certainly is present in some buildings. I also found all the public washrooms to have a very foul smell. My theory is that they use the aromatherapy add on as a means to overpower the smell. We were in building 1 and it was not present but we met people in buildings 2&3 and said it was bad there. I would request building 1 if you are going.

One more thing to add to the food safety is we found several hairs in our meals. We returned 3 items due to this reason.

-staff were not transparent at all about active cases and would not answer your questions about Covid.
-we observed a person who had ended up with a positive case and I personally felt how it was handled was horrible. She had received her results the night before and they had her come down to the testing area vs. Keeping her in her room. They shared her results in front of all the people waiting. I felt mortified on her behalf, there was no discretion or sensitivity from the staff. Then they had a huge group of people follow her to her room which obviously created more unnecessary attention and drama. I was so thankful this didn't happen to me as I would have been so embarrassed. The resort needs a better system of how to deal with a positive case. It was also unsettling to know that the resort and the person had these results the night before and the individual was given no guidance to self isolate. [Details]

Fantastic week

, Burlington, ON
2020-01-27
My wife and I had an amazing week at Haven. We had a swim-up Serenity ocean view room and couldn't have asked for anything better. We were looking for a quiet, private adults-only resort with good food, a nice property and beach access and we were not disappointed. I have a gluten allergy and the staff bent over backwards to ensure I didn't have any issues with anything and they even made me some off-menu items. Staff was friendly, rooms were clean and modern, restaurants were fantastic, pools were beautiful and the beach was private. I couldn't have asked for a better resort! Would happily return. [Details]
