Amazing family vacation August 2024
Dreams Flora, Punta Cana is an exceptional hotel and we highly recommend it. Travelling as a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children, aged 9 and 6), this hotel met every one of our family's requirements. The bus ride from the airport is only 20 minutes. Fantastic when travelling with kids. Food was beyond exceptional in terms of quality and selection. The buffet has plenty of options in addition to the numerous A La Carte restaurants (Italian, Grill, Japanese, etc). There is also a mini-buffet made for kids that always have « safer » foods such as quesadillas, fries, hamburgers, pasta bar, pigs in a blanket, not to mention the dessert bar as well. Gluten free section is also quite impressive. Food was definitely a 10/10. Service was impeccable. All staff were courteous and friendly. Strongly recommend taking the upgrade to « Preferred Club » to have private check-in & check-out, your personal butler for the week, private pool/hottub/bar&resto, and other perks. The weather was absolutely perfect, despite it being hurricane season. Amenities were wonderful. Grounds were big but not too big that the elk was unbearable. Very clean and beautiful to look at. Pool was big and clean, never felt overcrowded. Bars everywhere. Cafe offered specialty coffee and wraps/bagels/sandwiches blue ice cream for the kiddos. Nightly entertainment: there is live music every evening in the lobby followed by the shows (Rock show, Circus show, Dominican show, Freddy Mercury Show….), followed by dancing in the lobby afterwards. Beach party one night is also not to miss! Water park was a hit for the kids! 7 big slides (minimum height for kids…. I'd say must be around 7 years old), and adults with a smaller, kiddie water park for the little ones right beside. We don't have a single complaint!

Good Stay - Deceiving Room Descriptions
We just stayed at Dreams Onxy Oct 12-19. We did a lot of research on their website before booking to ensure we booked a specific type of room - we wanted adults only and swim out pool. The website (and hotel map) is very deceiving as it appears that booking a "preferred" room with swim out pool is adults only, which is NOT the case. We got to our room after check in, and realized we were on the all ages side, in a room that is closest to the beach (which you THINK would be the best), however, these last buildings by the beach's swim out pools are CONNECTED to the larger all ages pool... It was absolutely disgusting. We walked out onto our deck which had an old rotting muffin smashed right into the deck, a huge plate of dirty left over food and cigarette butts..indicating they don't clean/ check the balconies/ decks between stays - OR that someone from the pool just threw their food onto it since its WIDE OPEN to the larger pool.. It was chaotic, loud and LOADED with kids. So even if you HAVE kids, I would highly recommend asking for a room with a swim out NOT connected to the larger pool. None of this is described as an option on their website so I'm assuming you'd have to call to ask for it specifically....which is frustrating. We went back to the front desk to ask for a swim out on the adults only side, which we were then informed is a "private pool swim out" and cost us almost $1000CAN extra that we obviously had NOT planned for. If we would have known the price for the room we originally wanted, we probably wouldn't have booked it in the first place since it was outside of our price range, but we could not stay in the original room... We had to wait until the next day at 5pm to move..so we had almost two days of our trip in the first room. Once we moved, the "private pool swim out" room was amazing. They're absolutely beautiful and that whole adults side is very nice. The pool is quiet and relaxing, and the service was excellent. HATE that they don't have bracelet room keys. They advertise this like a good selling point but in our opinion having to ensure your key card is with you at all times is SO ANNOYING. My husband lost one in the water park on the second day, and we got locked out of our room another time. The bracelet keys is wayyy better option. Also, we are used to having coloured bands so that staff can distinguish which side of the resort you are on. We realized we could have 100% paid for a normal room and used the "preferred" adults only pool every single day and probably the food places as well as there is no identifying way to know you're not preferred.. The food was decent, very "hit or miss". Overall would rate a 7/10 for a 5 star resort. The service was excellent, alcohol had great options and the wine was great too. Nelis at the adults only pool was the most amazing server we've ever had and definitely deserves a huge shout out! She made our day seeing her each day :) sooo kind, funny and fast! Victor Ortega (whoop whoop!) at the lunch buffet and dinner steak restaurant was also a favorite. He made us laugh every day and was super attentive in his service. The butler service is useless, absolutely not needed and didn't use. The beach was beautiful, loved that there were lots of palm trees over the chairs for shade and beauty. However, lots of pushy hustlers on the beach that constantly bug you to buy things/ get massages and are rude when you decline. Coffee shop, ice cream parlor and burger joint are all nice touches. The arcade for kids is amazing although a lot of $$.. The water park is bomb! Even for adults we had a blast on the water slides and lazy river. Overall, great resort but wouldn't do it any other way that the private swim out room adults only side. Wish their website had better descriptions of the resort layout and the room options. For a couple that want absolutely nothing to do with a kids resort, that's the most important thing to us when finding our getaway destination.

Best Trip Ever at Royalton Bavaro
This was our second time at Royalton Bavaro, and we couldn't be happier we chose to return! After an incredible trip two years ago, we decided to stay for two weeks this time, knowing it would be a great experience. We traveled with our son, who has disabilities, and the Royalton management and staff went above and beyond to make our stay memorable and comfortable. They provided an extra fridge for his medication and a microwave for his special diet, which made such a difference. From the moment we arrived, they treated our family like VIPs. Our son was welcomed by the mascot, Turbo – such a thoughtful touch that made him feel special right away. The Diamond Club service was outstanding. Check-in was smooth and hassle-free, with drinks and snacks waiting for us while everything was handled. The DC lounge always had a variety of delicious food, premium drinks, and a Nespresso machine (which was great for us coffee lovers!). And having breakfast by the ocean every morning was a highlight. But the best part was definitely our butler, Mr. Kelvin. His attentiveness and care were beyond anything we've experienced before – he made sure everything was perfect and that we were always comfortable. Special thanks to Mr. Javier and Mr. Garcia from the management team. Their kindness and personal attention made us feel like family. Mr. Javier, in particular, went out of his way to make our son's stay unforgettable. Their warm hugs, genuine care, and attention to detail left a lasting impression on us. Our room was impeccable, cleaned twice daily, with comfortable beds and pillows, and the swim-out pool was fantastic. The pool was cleaned daily, and we even had waiters serving us by our swim-out while our son napped—a huge plus! The resort offers amazing family-friendly amenities. The kids' pool is fantastic, but our favorite was the lazy river. We spent hours there, and our son loved it so much he never wanted to leave. Evening mini discos were also a big hit with him; he couldn't get enough of the dancing! The food was consistently good, with a nice selection of restaurants. The buffet and Hunter Steakhouse were our favorites, especially the buffet nights featuring lobster and seafood. Thursday gala nights are extra special—be sure to pack your white outfits! Our only small suggestion would be a bit more variety for lunch options, as two weeks did feel a bit repetitive. Our top pick for evening entertainment was the Lion King show on Sunday night, which was beautifully done. The beach is stunning, with plenty of shaded palapas, comfortable lounges, and beds to relax on. And there's no shortage of daily activities and entertainment. The animation team keeps everyone engaged, and there's truly something for everyone. Royalton Bavaro is a phenomenal resort. Don't hesitate to book it – one week isn't enough, as the time flies by. The Diamond Club and swim-out suite experience are absolutely worth it. We're already counting down the days until we can return, hopefully in April!

Terrible Service; Rooms Need the Renovation
The hotel advertised itself as a luxury 5-star resort that was newly renovated. We booked the best possible room with a swim-out pool, which proved to be a poor choice due to heavy trolley traffic and noisy parties between 1-3 AM as guests returned to their respective resorts on the grounds. I suspect the renovations were on the pools and common areas, not the rooms. Our room, 93017, was unbearably humid with constantly damp bed sheets and slippery floors, despite running the AC at full blast. This created an uncomfortably cold environment without effectively reducing humidity. Wood baseboards showed visible swelling, and bathroom ceilings had mold. The humidity made floors treacherous, forcing us to waste towels keeping them dry. The sugar was clumped and you had to tear the packet in half for it to come out for reference, i had post a photo of my blue shirt being left on the bed for about 30 min, showing the dampness that was transferred. Our party of three (myself, my 92-year-old father, and 13-year-old daughter) were all charged adult rates. The third bed, a pull-out couch, smelled of WD40, and complaints went unaddressed. Extra blankets were unavailable, and the third bed lacked proper bedding and pillows. The language barrier proved challenging as staff would say "yes" to requests but take no action. The restaurants are generally good but could benefit from more authentic representation of their respective cuisines. The buffets are nice, and most staff are attentive, though some lack basic service skills, such as proper cutlery handling and placement (specifically server Cheila). Wheelchair accessibility is problematic, with 90-degree ramps making navigation difficult. Restaurants like Yurta, Tainos, and Naan require navigating awkward ramps with sharp turns. At Yurta, guests must manage heavy curtains without staff assistance. The hotel's wheelchair is poorly maintained - bring your own. Many steps are inadequately marked, and resort trolleys lack steps, requiring lifting mobility-impaired individuals. Room service is inconsistent, delivering roughly 75% of orders eventually (example: my father's omelet was missed twice before they claimed they couldn't make it; coffee arrived 30 minutes later, cream 30 minutes after that). The Sports Bar is good but needs more vegetarian/salad options. Popular items like mozzarella sticks and draft beer frequently run out. Beach bar staff tend to ignore guests until explicitly approached. CAICU's day manager Erados is exceptional - managing staff well and helping with translation. The paella cook is also noteworthy for her motherly demeanor. At BP-Punta Cana's Japanese restaurant, staff seemed lost and inappropriately suggested stairs for wheelchair access. Front desk experiences varied: Miguel provides excellent service, while Bernardette is dismissive and rude. She responded poorly to queries about pre-arrival email communications. Our bellhop Dennis was excellent. Note that arrivals at Bahia Principe Punta Cana require an internal trolley transfer to Esmeralda (or other resort sections like Ember or Fantasia) - information not communicated beforehand. Mid-November weather was subpar, and climate control throughout the resort was inadequate. Indoor restaurants were too cold, and temperature variations between areas were challenging for elderly guests. The Spa offers good services but lacks customization. My father's massage experiences were disappointing - first too soft for pain relief, then a basic athletic massage. The double room's broken thermostat left him cold throughout. However, my daughter enjoyed her facial treatment. Beware of constant haggling from sales people and double check any excursion you take, the photos and the actual excursion are worlds apart. Prepare with any medical essentials; the store on the resort is pricy - pack of mints was $8 USD while cough medicine was $12 USD. The renovation, I believe, took place in the pool from what i heard guests say. The staff, are really need training by senior and experienced individuals from the industry.

Did not love this resort
We did not enjoy our stay at this resort. Although the beach was great, which is what we were looking for, the resort itself was not great. I would not consider this a 4.5 star resort. We were looking for small and quaint, which it was, and we appreciated the additional restaurant options at the neighboring family resort. However, the Punta Cana Princess itself was disappointing. the food was less than average, very creative with how many ways they could serve a hot dog. The buffet being outdoors was VERY HOT, meals were uncomfortable, and we worried about the quality of the cold foods due to the heat. I suffered the effects of something I ate there well after my return home. The rooms were run down, bathrooms very mildewy, and just seemed no clean. The towels smelled gross, were sometimes brownish, you could tell they did not use bleach on them and whatever they did use made them smell horrible. The 3rd floor rooms were very hot due to the high ceilings the air just could not keep the rooms cool, poor design. The pool was gross, we watched them put some sort of blue liquid into it in the morning and watched as they scrubbed the edges with some sort of cleaner that went into the water, after seeing this we didn't go near it. The staff was ok for the most part but felt service was very tip driven, if you tipped, they loved you, if you didn't, you were ignored. We tipped very well but felt put off that it was so expected. We would not come back to this resort, or any princess resort due to this experience.
