We had a very nice time at the Aquamarine. The staff was very helpful and friendly always say hello and wanting to help. The food was good buffet is a bit small but good for breakfast and lunch. The al la Carte meals were very good, we had the Portifino Italian meat steak house the Hibachi grill and Brazilian steakhouse. The grounds were nice and well taken care of. The down fall is the resort needs some updating, our room was clean but older, the mattress was not to good. We had to switch rooms after the first night as we were in building 85 which is by the parking lot of the neighboring resorts staff. Was very loud and lots of beeping throughout the night. [Details]

A la carte restaurants and buffet restaurants excellent. Pool activities and evening entertainment very well done. Courteous staff. Guest rooms well appointed. Plenty of pool lounge chairs.
The weak points
Would like to have available ashtrays in the smoking sections for guests to avoid having to search for one or using paper coffee cups and non-courteous guests leaving trash on the ground. Some pool umbrellas either require repair or replacement.

Bahia Principe Aquamarine Great Resort!

My wife and I was looking for a place to rest and recover. We picked Aquamarine as it was an adult only resort. It was a great resort, with friendly staff from the entertainment to the waiters and waitresses. It was about 5-10min walk to the beach, but there are street trolleys that take couple of minutes to get to the beach and back. The restaurants were great with a variety of foot. Lots of a la cart restaurants as well. The Bahia Principe complex is massive and has something for everyone like a club, casino and lots of different entertainment options. Well nothing but great things to say ,everything was fantastic ,pros Miguel at the guest services was awsome , our maid service angelita was the best always met our requests ,now the placards were fantastic ,meats,Los Olas, garden grill, and Mikado tabinaki, Jeffery was outstanding great time ,now our lobby bar staff ,Dylan,Louis and the staff were the best the drinks outstanding , pool bar louis was our man he was awsome ,beach was fantastic the staff got us chairs when none were to be found , the buffet over all was good seemed to have same stuff daily didn't think it was as good as the grand punta

The service and the a la carte restaurants are excellent. There is a lot of choice so it's easy to go again. The beach is perfect to sit and relax or go for a long walk. Aquamarine has its own beach and it was never too crowded. Lots of entertainment to choose from. Take bug spray as we ended up with many bites-not sure if it was from sand fleas or mosquitoes. Luckily we were able to purchase calamine lotion and benadryl from the store in the main lobby. I would book this hotel again. [Details]

Hotel and grounds are beautiful clean, and well groomed. Entertainment was good. Although the trolley service, to beach, to restaurants is great. We realized we would prefer a smaller resort (that's just our preference, this being our 3rd trip to Punta cana). Beach was beautiful, but for Aquamarine section, no food is available, just a bar. Poolside has a BBQ every lunch hour. Pool is lovely with drink service.
Staff, for the most part, were friendly.
Room (junior suite) was beautiful. Washroom good size and clean.
Towels were old and thin. If you go, ask for more towels, face clothes (these were rarely replaced). One day no hand towels. Beach towels were thicker, newer.
Buffet 3 out of 5. Nothing to say here, we always found something to eat that wasn't over cooked.

We were well taken care of at the Aquamarine. Edouardo at the Mediterrean restaurant became our best friend. Took good care of us. Their reservation system needs upgrading. We reserved at the Japanese and when we arrived they did not have our reservation. They were able to accomodate us, however, when I got back to the room I found the reservation on the app. So I don't know why they could not find it.

The beach was too crowded for us. We were packed like sardines to get shade and they just kept putting more people around. So we spent our time at the pool.

The only problem I would say is that they don't have enough shuttles through the resort. My sister could not walk all the way to the buffet/restaurant so we had to wait for the shuttle to come by. Sometimes took a while.

All in all it was a great trip with my sisters. We had a blast. Weather was great! [Details]

This is my second time coming to the Dominican Republic. I've stayed at a three and a half star resort before, and I wanted to try a different resort and I can definitely tell you that the entertainment, the hospitality of the crew and staff has been excellent. The food is great and also the trolley cars that take you from the resort to the beach is very convenient and accommodating.
I would definitely come back here again for sure. This is a great spot whether you are coming solo or with a group of friends, this is a wonderful resort to relax and to be social. [Details]

Would not encourage people to come to resort!

Overall I am shocked at reading positive reviews! I just got home yesterday and I am very thankful for the group of girls that came as we made our own fun for my cousins Bachelorette. However this hotel was not a 5 star at most I would give it is a 2 star, I would label it a 3 star with me being extremely kind and nice. I assure you to not ever go to this resort! I also assured our travel agent and others to never send anyone to this resort.
The staff were very rude! I approached the bar at night asking for water to be filled in my steel cooler cup after I was given it and tipped the man; he told me to not come back and waved his hand so I did not go to that bar again. I will say the lobby bar staff were amazing totally different experience. The food was horrible! I got the runs the whole trip.
Now the worst situation was regarding our room or I should say our rooms. I had to switch my room three times; this all occurred in one day so you can imagine my frustration as I could not enjoy my last night especially in Punta Cana. The first our toilet broke twice; both times the toilet wouldn't flush. The first time the repairman fixed the toilet after we waited more than 3 hours for it to be fixed. The second time the repair man came and told us it could not be fixed after being in our room for I would say 2-3 hours and left the room. I was not going to stay in a room where the toilet was broken as I had the runs. So I told the girls to pack up and we went into the lobby looking for a new second room before it got to late and we were to tired. Now this was a situation getting a new room, I had to get my friend who spoke Spanish to assist as the front desk man could not help us without him or someone who spoke the language maybe since it was super late at night, i'm not sure if they only keep bilingual staff during day hours. This took at least an hour to get a new room, our second room. Once we got to the room, I started to notice bugs! I thought I killed them all so I finally went to hangout with the girls. Once I returned to the room I noticed the bugs multiplied like crazy. They were all over the walls, bed, table and washroom floor. I immediately told them let's get our luggage and go back to the lobby; this was around 12am, my spanish friend was sleeping so I tried google translate as we ran into a language barrier again. This worker kept us waiting in the lobby till at least 2:30am. By this time getting the room at 2:30am we all were exhausted. The girls went to bed but I needed to shower as I was so itchy from the bug bites which I have been told after going to the clinic today it is bed bugs along with mosquito bites all over my body. As I was taking a shower I noticed the maid did not clean the shower as hair was left on the wall. This was the worst vacation resort I have been to in my whole life!
Our last night at 2:30am once we got our third room; I was told by the employee using google translate I was needing to come to the lobby in the morning to speak with the manager who will apologize and do something to fix this experience for myself. I came twice to the lobby and waited for the manager till the moment I hopped onto the cart to take us to the bus to leave to come to Canada but nothing happened... No manager and no conversation. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!
The wifi is terrible at the resort as well it is very choppy and cuts in and out all the time if your trying to post a photo to social media you find yourself posting the same photo 2 or more times.
Now the room service is not existent, if you want drinks you need to get them before midnight or anything you want you have to come pick it up at the lobby front desk. We had so many issues trying to get water delivered to the front door of our room as there was not enough in the fridge. They only give you 3 small water bottles. A shocker was also being told you have access to all the resorts on property but when you try and go into another resort buffet you actually are unable to do so!

Our travel agent has been amazing handling our concerns and issues we have been faced with during this trip! I would recommend using her again to book trips! [Details]

This was the best vacation that I have had. 2 weeks allowed enough time to really unwind and destress. I would go back again. Locals are very friendly and happy.

On the down side if you have a pool side suite expect extremely loud music until 11pm. I would not stay at the poolside rooms again Massages are so overpriced and basically just a rub down. If you are expecting massage therapist techniques don't bother.

Grand Aquamarine good and bad

Overall was good. Not much English spoken so hard for staff to communicate with guests. Guest services has no clue what is going on throughout the complex. No info on entertainment around the complex, we had to find the stage with entertainment ourselves. Heard about a market that takes place every week at the complex that the 5th front desk staff we asked over 3 days knew about. Everything is maximum 15 minute walk from where we stayed (Aquamarine) and we were constantly told to take the tram. We ended up walking 3 minutes to dinner one night after guest services recommended a tram as we were told it was a good 10-15 minute walk! The rooms were clean but we needed to go find a broom to sweep our room on 2 different days that crumbs and sand were on the floor after bed was made and not much else. We stripped the bed 4 days in as the sheets are not changed for the 7 day visit. We had 1 excellent meal out of 7 a La carte meals. 3 were decent and the other 3 were not enjoyable. Buffet food was mediocre at best. The staff should be trained in the basics of English and should know the difference between words like “hot” and “cold”, etc. they look at you and walk away clueless. The music at the adults only pool was on the loudest large speaker from 10:00 am until end of the day with classes being led by staff with microphones yelling in to them over the music. Hardly relaxing for the vast majority of people not participating. Mosquitoes were unpleasant and we were hard pressed to find anti itch cream until we went in to the city on an excursion where our private tour guide took us in to a pharmacy. Otherwise the resort is lovely and clean. Mostly friendly staff but no “Englais”. Beach is outstanding and pool is huge and lovely but the constant loud banging music was not enjoyable. Our private excursion to Santo Domingo was outstanding. [Details]

Perfect Vacation

The Bahia Principe Aquamarine was a wonderful experience! My husband and I stayed here for 10 days for our anniversary and everything was great!

We were able to choose a different a la carte dinner for EVERY SINGLE NIGHT if you wanted to. And it could all be done either through the app or the touchscreens in the main lobby. We did attend 7 of the different restaurants and all were wonderful. A special shoutout to the Japanese Teppanyaki, Tequila Mexican restaurant, and the Greek. The food and the service were impeccable.

The breakfast buffet just so happened to be right next to our room so that was an added bonus. The staff and serves, including Nikaury and Francis, were always smiling, helpful, and quick to fill your glass or take your empty plate. My husband really enjoyed the eggs and omlettes that Gabriel at the omlette station made.

We spent the majority of our time at the beach! There is a special section for Aquamarine that is adult only, and has it's own dedicated beach bar and staff. Juan and Charina were especially friendly, welcoming us every time we arrived, saying "good bye and see you a manana" every time we left, and being quick to offer to fill our bubba! We felt like royalty on the beach! The beach lunch was fine, but basic. They had the same items daily with not a ton of variety. The other lunch buffet at the actual resort had much more variety and better options.

We would grab drinks in the lobby bar some evenings to enjoy the evening entertainment at the resort. Jorge was always there with a smile to take our order and fill our glasses quickly. The evening shows had good variety, from singers, live bands, a burlesque show, fire show and even a pool party. There is also the main Theater, where the dancing and acrobats were quite phenomenal, and the Bahia Principe Village with a sports/karaoke bar, casino, disco and theatre with live music every evening.

The entertainment staff sure look like they are having a ton of fun! Joel, Catrina and Marielle were always smiling and FULL of energy! While we didn't always partake in the activities, it was great to see how much they enjoyed their jobs.

Our room was always clean and Rosalea Feliz did a great job, occasionally even making our towels into swans, which is always a fun treat!

Overall, we had an amazing time at the Bahia Principe Aquamarine! We would go again and would recommend to everyone. [Details]

Definitely not a 5 star. I say that bcs I have been in DR many times in other 5 star. Cannot compare with RIU for example. Far from beach hotel& restaurant,long waiting time for drink, only 1 coffee machine breaks down often at the fast food restaurant by the beach( they could put 2 instead) hard matress no elevator to 3 floor no alcohol in room no access to other bahia resort , not even for a cooffe . Ala carte Portofino and Capricio are very far from italian cussine ( Im not using word horrible).The beach was a swamp bcs of the weeds ; first 2 days they didnt even clean the shore. I understand not much they can do in the water but if I knew I'd go somewhere else… [Details]

We very much enjoyed our stay here. The staff was great however having more Spanish made have made communication easier. The accommodations were nice however our room requests for double beds and adjoining rooms did not happen. There was repairs that need to happen including a leak in the ceiling one night (it was attended to quickly once we told the desk staff.). Food was very good and the selection and options for where to eat was great. Entertainment staff were very friendly and the bartenders would make you anything you like. The resort is very beautiful and food was great. Lots of options to eat and drink at all the resorts in the complex as well.
The weak points
Some repairs needed in the rooms and accommodations requests were not granted. It may have been easier if staff at the desk knew more English or if we new more Spanish. Water pressure in the shower was very poor. Internet access was spotty at times.

Wonderful Vacation

We stayed at the Grand Bahia Principe Aquamarine and thoroughly enjoyed everything about it. From check-in to check-out, and everything in between, the staff were lovely. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. Our rooms were large and nicely appointed. The cleaning staff were attentive and cleaned the rooms everyday before we came back from the beach so we were never inconvenienced.

The lobby had great entertainment and shoutout to Bethana for her great service.

There were lots of choices at the buffet and the food was changed up regularly so always a new experience. Absolutely loved the outdoor patio off of the buffet.

The a la carte restaurants were good, the El Olivo was my favourite.

The beach is lovely and the Aquamarine has a section roped off so we were always able to get a seat.

The beach buffet was okay but the food was the same daily and the staff not as attentive as the staff at the Aquamarine, but this did not negatively impact our experience. [Details]

Exceptional staff, beautiful grounds, clean, and welcoming.
The weak points
The beach buffet can be repetitive and the staff not quite as attentive as the staff at the Aquamarine.

The staff always wore masks. As you entered restaurants, you were required to use hand sanitizer and they offered guest masks. The staff were quick to wipe down tables as people left and a sign was placed on the table that it was sanitized.

So so stay at the Bahai Principe

The Bahai Principe is a sprawling complex that contains six or so themed areas that cater for every tastes - the one we were at was an adults only, rated at 5 stars when we booked. However, I believe the Ambar (?) area is the one you want to stay in if you want that five-star experience . The Aquamarine was not at that level. For example, the balcony furniture was ragged - not major, but not five star either. Website and app needs to be more prescriptive as to what you can do and access (we were loudly told we could not get a coffee in a certain part of the compound). Boards that stated the activities, entertainment for the day/evening did not tell you where it was located. Food was OK at first, but we both ended up with food poisoning on separate nights which marred the last two days of our short stay. In short, the experience was not that great and we will not go back. [Details]

The strong points
Well kept gardens, nice beach - lots of entertainment (if you can find them). Great room sizes. Pools are awesome. Buffet had many choices. Staff are genuinely kind.
The weak points
Could only get into a few ala carte restaurants, but these experiences were marred by one of us having food poisoning on two separate nights. Service is so-so. Poor website, app, and wayfinding will leave you deciphering a paper map with tiny fonts

Beds are very hard, linens very nice. Food was just OK. Some Staff didn't speak English, but others tried very hard. Reception people were excellent. Some à la carte restaurants better than others. Excursions weren't worth going on. Poor value for the money. Just a relaxing place to sit by the pool. The beach was too crowded to find a chair. [Details]

The strong points
Weather was good. Hotel looks quite nice. A big complex and beach wasn't very close. But golf carts will drive you around.
The weak points
Not great for seniors. 18 is what they consider adult age. So too many college kids partying. They wouldn't provide change anywhere, so bring lots of small bills and bug spray.

They seemed to follow COVID protocol but didn't enforce mask wearing in dining rooms.

The most terrible resort ever

The staff at this resort are extremely rude and unprofessional. Rooms were NEVER cleaned and mini fridge was never replenished. It was a constant battle to try to get drinking water. Towels and linen were always stained yellow, and room was very outdated with no working AC. Everytime I filed a complaint and asked for assistance, I was ignored and no managment ever intervened. I've never been so traumatized while on a vacation. I was always concerned for the health and safety of my family here because I never witnessed a table being sprayed and wiped down. Social distancing signs were there, but NEVER practiced or enforced by staff. I've witnessed staff take the "clean and disinfected" sign and put it on a dirty table that was used by others. Food was disgusting, old, reheated food that they later use in the a la cart restaurants. I found a hair in my food at the buffet at Aquario with pictures to prove. Just read the reviews on this place on Google. The low rating reviews are most accurate, and im starting to think the 5 star reviews are fake. This resort needs health and safety inspectors to come and evaluate because what I witnessed was alarming. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere, this place is a nightmare. [Details]

Service is non existent. Towels and linen never changed and always stained yellow and dirty. Food was old, cold, and reused often. Guest services and concierge services extremely rude, lazy, and ignorant. If there is a problem, you are on your own.

Stay far away from this resort. I wish I knew this before I booked my vacation.

Made the best of our stay.

Based on our experience at the hotel I would not stay again or recommend it to friends or family. We made the best of our stay and many of our experiences were positive, for example the entertainment team especially Maridania and many of the bartenders especially Carlos. The facilities outside of the room were nice (pool/beach loungers and umbrellas, the pool, the food), however the beach is not a white sandy beach but the water is clean. The food during our stay varied and was yummy, most of the a la carte restaurants were very delicious.
One of our biggest concerns with our stay was the service from the front desk and problem resolution/follow up. Many of the front desk staff, were often rude and dismissive. We had many issues with our room to the point that they changed us rooms at 2 am in the morning, after waiting 1h and 30 minutes for answers.

To outline our issues specifically, in our first room the lights were not working all the time, we had no blackout/privacy blinds and the minibar wasn't cold. We informed them of these issues on Monday and they moved us on Wednesday when our light card reader stopped working fully. In the second room on the day we were leaving the washroom was backing up and the toilet and sink were bubbling as well as releasing an awful smell. There was also spotty internet for most of our stay, which really wasn't an issue for us however the whole hotel has switched to a QR code system and really relied on this to communicate (menus, booking tables, ordering room service, booking covid tests, etc.) which made it challenging on days where internet was out.
Furthermore, when asking for services that were guaranteed ( for example receiving water bottles in our room) it often lead to dry responses from staff and long wait times to receive more of these items even though they should have been restocked when the room was cleaned. Many times throughout our stay we felt frustrated and felt that we spent a good portion stressed and waiting around. When you go on vacation you don't want to leave saying "we made the best of it" especially at a resort with such a high rating and reviews that seemed to be very positive. [Details]

The strong points
The entertainment team and friendliness of certain staff.
The weak points
Customer service, problem solving, follow up, approachability. Limited access to services/lack of many of their services. Beach view is disturbed by a factory or port in the horizon and the water is not clear.
Sanitary measures
Encouraged mask wearing and guests could choose not to participate in activities that were closer to other guests. At the buffet everyone sanitized and had a glove for serving their food, masks were worn by all guests unless at their table.
