It was great!!

1. HOTEL: Hotel check in was super fast. I am pretty sure we were the only family checking in at that time. Mind you we did travel over night and I'm sure not many people would want to do that lol. The people working the check in were so nice and accommodating. The hotel itself I will give it a 3 out of 10. The cleanliness was by far the worst I have seen and I travel A LOT. The first room we originally checked in was smelly of mold. It's so humid the clothes we hung on whatever we could find wouldn't dry. There were no hooks on walls nothing. We didn't want to put our clothes outside because we were on the ground floor where people can easily steal!!!!. We could literally jump over our balcony with no barrier between rails and walkway and just go on about our day. So we asked for another room and they wanted $800. We said no but maybe a nice tip instead so they considered. We were transferred to another room and it smelt like straight puke. The people before us puked in the shower and clogged it. The chunks wouldn't go down the drain. Also they reused the people's water bottle before us and put it in our fridge. When I went to open it, the bottle was soaking wet like it was poured from the tap and the cap wasn't on properly. The rest of the drinks in the fridge was new and sealed shut. We had cleaners come and check the shower and they just sprayed perfume and ran hot water. We demanded another room. The cleaners are super sweet, the front desk guy, sorry for misspelling (mequias), that helped us with all the rooms and was very understanding and VERY VERY VERY accommodating and tried EVERYTHING in his power to make us happy. He was so amazing!!! Just sucks the rooms were such a huge fail. They have a tiny tiny town of its own. It's kinda cool. There is a sports bar that runs 24/7 with arcade games, pool table, air hockey, and basketball…kids allowed, also a coffee shop, a wedding office, pharmacy, clinic, a Roxy clothing store, and a cigar shop. Really neat walking along it. Whatever you do, bring your damn tanning lotion. $55 there!!!!! One kids candy of gum was $12!!!!! It's insane!! They do sell big big bottles of water for $2 which is good. We stocked up on those. I hear people kept getting sick at the hotel from the tap water and ice so we just brought our own water bottles and filled them ourselves. NO ICE!!! In the hotel rooms they provided 4 bottles of water, 2 cokes, 2 sprite, 2 beers and 2 Fantas. Also some tea and coffee. They also have beside Macao buffet a tv where you can see all the activities and shows that happen in your resort that is super duper handy. When we did the leisure club hotel room viewing, holy heck!!! The rooms are to die for. Extremely clean, stocked with every booze possible, lots of snacks, and more. Depending on what you chose for package - platinum, gold, bronze, silver etc… the platinum you get your own balcony with a pool, massage table, bar, cabana, and dinning table. Probably saw 4 walk in closets lol. PlayStation for the kids. You also get to hang out in the vip lounge. Didn't think it was necessary for kids. We chose bronze. Silver from what I remember you get a jacuzzi on your balcony. BUT be prepared when the concierge asks if you want the vip breakfast it's about becoming a leisure club member. If you do it will take up half your day. Lots of talking, showing around, meeting different people and sales people. I will say this, I have sensory processing disorder. I HATE the feeling of drying my hands after them being wet. I will run to lotion them or I'll cringe and cry without. I stocked up on bottles for this trip and never needed it once. Which is so odd to me but so relieving!!! The locals here will call Canadians Punta canada. I met only one American here. The rest ALL Canadian!!! They love Canadians lol. They do have a roxy clothing store, small but sells the basic essentials. The gym is actually pretty nice. Small but has all the things you need. They have a massive theatre they play movies. You DO have to reserve it. They have a game room as well under construction. Looks super cool. If you become leisure you also get the golf cart shuttle rides. Day before we left we had michaes call our room at night just to say good bye and he will miss us. He makes us feel like family. We will miss him so much.
2. FOOD: The food was impeccable!!! Soooo many choices. Three buffet restaurants. Macao was our fav. I notice lots of reviews are about the servers being rude. I found the ones that seemed rude was BECAUSE they didn't speak the best of English and was having a hard time with communication. BUT I will say this. They thrive on tips. A quick $5 tip for your server makes them happy as heaven. I thought the service was HANDS DOWN THEEEEE best I ever witnessed BY FAR!!!! They go above and beyond!!!!!! Martha and Pablo servers were THE BEST!!!!! They are so amazing!!! Martha would pack us little foods from the buffet to take to our hotel after every dinner. ALL our servers, as soon as we walk in would already have our drink orders on the table. To the exact T. Martha on her days off would call and make sure the waitresses and waiters served what we liked. The bakery DONT GET ME STARTED!!! DROOOOOLLLL! So damn good when I came back to Canada I was disappointed lol. The doctor here say Dominicans don't mess around when it comes to baking. EVERYBODY bakes! When I say tipping goes a long long way!! We had servers go out of their way to bring down three coconuts. Cut them up and bring them to us all the way to the beach. Gave us some rum to pour in as well. Jose. That's the man!!! The lunch by the pool I didn't find that good BUT Jose made us so happy we only went for his service. The twist ice cream there is so yumm too lol. I will say they do have lots of restaurants you can book. I will never do the teppanyaki. Unless you're ok to sit leg to leg with strangers. It's not a private chef for your family only. You're literally sitting with people and it's tight as hell. They try to squish as many people as they can at one table. When we joined the leisure club, wasn't much food options but better quality I found and they provide menus with many items. My husband suffers severe heartburn. He can't eat much in Canada because everything wrecks him but not once did he have it there. He ate everything under the sun and we still had full bottles of tums going home lol. Our last night we did diner Route 66. The food is darn good. Curly fries are yummy.
3. BEACH: Wooooooow the water is so warm!! Waves can be tough at times but manageable. My son is 7 and he was able to hold a good wave. Clean beach too. They have a bbq buffet on the beach as well which is meh. If you walk to the left a bit further down where leisure club is there are a couple stores that sell all kinds of things, souvenir shop. One store was called Dominica Walmart. So funny lol. If you join the leisure club, you get access to the cabanas on the beach as well.
4. POOLS: Everywhere. They always have fun things going on in the pools. We had a foam party and it was wild!!! It happens everyday Saturday around 3:30pm. What sucked was all the kids were scared to go in because all the drunk adults were right front and centre dancing and a kid could easily be walked on. So we didn't really get to be fully near it. BUT we did join the leisure club 3 days into our trip, and their foam party was all kids only and parents were respectful and just watched them have a blast. Their pool is so much quieter and more kid friendly. I love the cabanas too. There is a store at the main pool where you can buy all the fun stuff like floaties, sunscreen and toys etc. that was helpful a lot of times. Whatever you do, if you do join leisure club, make sure to wake up early and put your stuff on a cabana. They get taken up fast and for the whole day!!! If you join the grand Sirenis Punta Cana fan page on Facebook, people will post left over sunscreens, diapers, pool floaties and more outside their rooms for guests in need. That was super cool. They have a little hut as well where they braid hair. They charge it to your room and you just tip the lady. I have super long hair so I got her to do boxer braids on me and that helped so much since I love being in the water. They do amazing corn rows as well. You see all the little girls with fun braids and colours with beads.
5. WATERSLIDE: Waterslide was scary!!! If you're afraid of heights like me lol. I don't like that you can see through the stairs and they bend on every step. I was scared it would snap and I would fall through lol. They do provide lockers which was a huge plus for $5. They also have waiters taking orders. They also had a locked room there too. $25 per person. A bit steep. They got one section of just Waterslides, a regular pool, baby pool, and toddler pool. Also it's a tiny bit of a walk from hotel, but we liked it. Older people had to take the shuttle. It probably took at most maybe 8 minutes.
6. ADVENTURES BOOKING: The excursion guy - Ruebinson- looks just like black panther chad. He was amazing!!!!! He was giving us all the tips and tricks of the hotel. He was so friendly. He was the one that got us the coconuts down. He goes ABOVE & BEYOND. Talk about someone that legit care for the guests. Would only go to him for everything. At one point our excursion shuttle forgot about us and he legit jumped in his car and saved us. What I think is best? Watch videos on tik tok before buying an excursion. Do your research for better pricing as well.
7. TRAVEL PART: I will never travel over night with a child. West jet sucks. No tv, they kept skipping us to serve drinks and food, and it was HOT!!!! I almost puked. Won't do that ever again!!! Our transfer bus…..ummm let's say he drives like vin diesel lol. He was Tokyo drifting us to our resort. It was scary as hell!!!! But damn he's a good driver lol. The airport holy heck!!!!…..you will get harassed by tons of gangster looking men about hook ups for escorts and drugs. We just smiled and said no thank you and they followed us. Even though we had our kid with us. No filter and no F's to give. They do sell cans of beer as soon as you get out of airport which was cool lol.
8. FISHING: We chose a private tour. It's 4 hours long. $1000 USD! Let's just say the experience for us was by far the worst!! First our tour guy didn't speak English and didn't know who he was picking up even though we kept showing him our invoice. Finally he figured it WAS us he was driving to the marina. On the way, 5 minutes into the drive he saw a girl on the side of the road and picked her up, then drove her home with us still in the shuttle. I found that a bit unprofessional since we are already late to our excursion. Also he was texting and driving ugh!!! When we got to the grand palladium resort, where the marina is, there were no signs of our booking. So lots of waiting and lots of phone calls till finally we were found. We did our fishing, started getting so hungry!!! They didn't have snacks at all. They had a cooler with some water and beer with a bottle of bleach lol. Didn't catch a thing which is not the guides fault at all. No air conditioning inside the boat, me and my son got heat stroke and slept. When done, our shuttle forgot about us. Mind you, we paid for private, ended up hitching a ride into Punta Cana with another full shuttle bus. We were supposed to get a ride with our private shuttle after the excursion to go to the bank so this shuttle dropped us off into Punta Cana city bank and our excursion booker Ruebinson from our resort came and got us from there. Scary being in the heart of the city with police holding shot guns, while in a bikini and son is soaking wet. He even drove us around till we could find a bank that wasn't a 3 hour long wait. He saved us!!! Best man ever. We ended up missing lunch time and they were nice to let us in and eat the left over food that was still edible. All I gotta say for this part is, 1 out of 10 people speak English out of the resorts that you will understand. This is not like Mexico where they treat guests with royalty, they don't work around buffet breakfast or lunch times. So BE PREPARED to pack food from the buffets for all excursions. The drivers drive like nascar drivers lol so buckle up!!!! lol. We used google translate a lot of times. Whatever you do, bring lots of sunscreen, your own waters, tons of snacks, and maybe even a portable fan or cooler of ice.
9. RESORT CLINIC: the clinic worker is so friendly. Speaks perfect English. Husband had a clogged ear and it was hurting him so bad, and he couldn't hear obviously. He did do a general typical check up and put drops in his ears. That's all they had. No water drain or pumps. Paid a little over $200 for that. Did give us instructions on how to go through Alberta blue cross when we got home. He seemed to genuinely care and made him go back to keep an eye on him. Wanted to make sure he enjoyed his trip and kept making sure he was getting better not worse. For this part be fully prepared!! Bring everything you got at home. A whole first side and more. Stuff is hella expensive over here.
10. LOST AND FOUND: holy heck I never felt so violated in my life. It was like going through an airport security times 20. When we switched our last hotel room we left 2 hair claws, bathing suit shorts and a watch charger. We went to lost and found to ask if someone can take a look and see if it's still there and they asked to come to our room with an investigator first, because it's procedure AND they made us open our safe and luggage and was looking in every crevasse of our hotel. Why????? We aren't thieves of our own stuff!!! We are asking to look where we left it. They said they had to. They went through EVERYTHING! Made us feel like criminals. My husband was so mad and asked if he wanted to check inside his rectum while they were at it. They weren't too happy. We rather take the loss than what they did to us. It was so violating!!!! TWO DAYS LATER….. we get a call that my husband had to write himself up as a strike!!!!! Apparently the investigator said my husband showed his bare butt to him!!! So now they want my husband to sign off as a perv when we are now members there!!!! He wouldn't sign it!! How insulting. He made a light heart joke and I guess he was so upset he wanted my husband to be kicked out of the resort. Because of that alone we won't be coming back. First we get violated with our rooms then accused of showing a bum to an investigator. The manager came right away and she felt bad and apologized. She was so sweet and totally knew he was in the wrong. But still, not coming back after that. To have that kind of label at a resort is so insulting.
11. GLASS BOAT: our trip was cancelled and moved to the next day due to the weather being super windy. That's totally out of their control. We ended up going the next day and all I gotta say is, it was fun but super sketchy. First the waves were a bit rough and the scuba gear was not the best so we swallowed tons of water. The life jackets weren't the greatest either. It only wraps around the waist. I was drowning in it almost. They do provide chum so the fishes do go nuts around you and it's sooo incredible and magical!!! Then they bring you a bit of a way to another area, and they let my son fish with just a string and they actually caught fish lol. It was super cool. They ended up bringing us to an area where they kept dolphins and a couple sharks in a pool smaller than our home. It was sad. We also did see on our way to another area of the ocean, lots of turtles and sting rays. HERE is the cruncher on the cake…… they brought us to a stunning area which was chest deep. There were 100's of teenagers on party boats with loud music, which was fine, but it was the locals!!! They were coming up to our boat trying to get us to buy booze and food. Then we had a ton of them swarm us with a monkey and a parrot to get photos so we paid them. THEY DID EVERYTHING to get money from us!! BUT be prepared to have the guide do a photoshoot with you. Like straight on vogue stuff lol. The pictures turned out beautiful but they wanted $160 USD!!! AND a tip. Locals are pushy AF!!!!!! They want money!!!!!! They drove to a resort to get us to get money from their ATM just so they can get paid. It was crazy!!! They were nice and they tried everything in their power to make sure we had an amazing time. We definitely did. Oh and by the way, the glass was the size of my car windshield and it was covered with life jackets. If you do plan to do this which I think it's worth it, bring your own life jacket, snorkels and lots of money!!!! You can buy pineapples with booze in them, coconuts as well, pics with monkeys and parrots. And don't forget your professional photos from the guide lmfao!!!
12. ROMANTIC DINNER: the service was amazing. We were served water and champagne and even offer wine. I orders the lobster and it wasn't too shabby. Fresh out the ocean. Husband had the steak and it looks like it was still moving lol. They served meats and cheese platter and it's the same from the Buffett but good. Asparagus soup, was actually quite tasty. The dessert was chocolate fondue and fruit with a piece of cake. THAT was delicious. It was $100 per person. Food was meh but I guess you pay for the experience. TONS of mosquitos so bring bug spray! Like I say, service was amazing.
13. DOMITAI PARK: we paid $190 per person which later find out at the door it's $130 per person. F SAKES!! It's a full day. They have zip lining, dune buggies, horse back riding, caves to swim in, shows to watch, ……Bring your own towels, comfy shoes and clothes you don't mind throwing in the garbage after, and bandanas and goggles for your face for the dune buggies. You'll get mud on every part of your body. You can dip into the water caves to clean up after. They do sell bandanas and googles there for a hefty price. They do photos for you for $130 USD. They do make you pay that up front. Zip lining was so much fun. There are 5 runs of it. I had my kid strapped with me. It was super cool!! The dune buggies were a blast!!!! We got filthy as heck!!! All our clothes were ruined!!!! They will stop along the way and the local children will try and sell bracelets. It's cute. We shared a 4 seater for me, hubby and son. The horses I felt bad for. They were super skinny and super tame. I shared that as well with my son. The lunch was ok. They do sell snacks and charge 15%. The shows were fun as well and quick. You get to take photos with them as well. The cave water was MAGICAL!!!!!! Honestly this was the best day of our whole entire trip. You have to do this!!! OH and bring a phone waterproof case. They sell those as well but I got mine for $3 on SHEIN. Your phone will get dirty! But if you can bring a backpack and your own snacks and drinks, saves you money!
14. THE RUMOUR: so we were told about the sickness going around with the water and ice. A month before our trip we started taking probiotics. During our trip as well. Never got sick once. Mind you we never drank the water. We had bottled water everywhere we went. If we had pop or juice we asked for no ice. Our last day we ran out of probiotics. And we drank the water with ice. THEY say it's filtered water. Well……my son puked all night long. My stomach was hurting so bad it felt like shards of glass coming out. It was extremely painful.

OVERALL: the resort, everyone makes you feel special and feel like family. We will miss them all so much. The service is 100%. Excursions were not really worth it, sketchy and definitely money grabbing. I never felt so violated traveling when it comes to money. That's all this country wants from you I felt. They will do anything and everything for it. Domatai park adventure was the only one that made me feel they weren't just after what was in my wallet. BUT tipping in the resort comes a very very long way. They will treat you like royalty. We wanted to come back but after the accusations of my husband and the investigator we won't. That was very degrading and just uncomfortable all around. Thank you Grand Sirenis. It's been an adventure

Not bad, wouldn't go without kids
Wasn't the cleanest and really depended where you went if the staff was great or just on their phones. The kids had fun but they even noticed that it wasn't clean, they were 7 and 9.
Find it wasn't what we were used too
All together we did it and things were good for the most part but wouldn't go back [Details]

Traveling with friends make it worth it

Day 1, we arrive as a group of 21 people. Some got rooms right away while others had to wait almost 2 hours for rooms. When getting into the rooms, some had to be changed due to the rooms not being cleaned. Day 2, asked cleaning staff for more water in the morning, as you cannot brush your teeth from the taps, with children the water goes fast. Cleaner says she will put it in the room. By 9pm, there is still no water. Go to front desk. Front desk says they will send someone with a bottle of water to our room. So we go and wait. By the next morning, still no water. We ended up taking 3 bottles of water out of the cleaning closet when the cleaner left it opened, to guarantee we had water for the rest of our stay. No signs posted for timings on beach towel exchange. We went at 530pm to return towels and they were closed. A man next to it said they open at 7am. We had an excursion booked the next day and needed towels, so we went to the front desk to see if we could exchange them. Front desk confirmed towel exchanged opened at 7, but said if not there at 7 then to come back to the front desk (pointed to a door behind her) and she would exchange them from there. 7am comes around towel exchanged closed. Go to front desk and the 2 new ladies on shift say towel exchange opens at 830 and they couldn't help. When I pointed to the door, one lady gets an annoyed look on her face, opens the door (there are many towels sitting there), she closes the door and says she can't help. I ask for a manager and she says there are 2 over at the other side. I go to the other side and not one person was around. We had to take dirty towels to our excursion. Day 4, I want to do laundry and call 0 and ask how to fill it out. She walks me through it. There was one Spanish part I didn't understand and called 0 again, no answer. I go to front desk and the lady says it is all filled out wrong. She calls a number and then says to me someone is coming to my room with a new form, and will help me fill it out. Guess what, no one showed up. Next day I go to front desk, the man send me to the other side to guest services. After 1.5 hrs, she gets me a new form and walks me through it. As she is walking me through it, she says it is all spanglish and has to call a number because even she doesn't understand it all. So to fill out these laundry forms, you mark off what you have, but then have to add socks, shorts etc because they leave it out on woman, men or children areas, but have them on others. There is a pool bar...it stinks like sewage, badly. Dishes are not cleaned fully. When getting a plate, you could scratch off old food. Cups, my daughter asked for a kids Pina colada, a yellow/white drink, well as he poured it, it started turning pink in a couple spots (from a previous drink I am assuming, but it was supposed to be a clean glass). Merchants by the food truck do not take no for an answer and the only way is to walk away, where they will call to you until out of ear shot. We booked dinner for 8 people, when we got there they had 4 for the booking. They did rectify this quickly. There is a water park on site. Also a break out room. The lady at the break out room opened up an hour early to let us go through before our flight. There was a master light switch in our room (you had to walk through the entrance, out of living room and into bedroom), it was at the far wall of the bedroom. If you turned it off, then it turned off every light. When you turned it on, you could turn on the lights, but one light in the living room area came on automatically. So at night, if you needed the washroom light on, you would wake up whomever is sleeping in the living room area by turning on that light which has no switch to turn off, or you had no lights at all. First morning we shut this switch off and came back to our room at night, thought we had no power, and hard to find this switch in the dark. When we did the Japanese dinner, the ac was broken so it was very hot. When they got it working, a bunch of dust came out of the ceiling vents. You could see it coming down and it went over the food at the buffet. Staff didn't do anything. Left all that food there for the next people to come and eat from it. Gross [Details]

The strong points
A variety of food to choose from. The only 7 ft deep pool that I know of in dominican. Lots of excursions to choose from. Concierge are everywhere. Beautiful location. Most staff are friendly, and go above and beyond to make your stay pleasant.
The weak points
Front desk saying someone is going to your room, so you go and wait in your room wasting your vacation waiting for them not to show up. Dirty dishes. Smell by pool bar. No managers available when you ask for one. Master light switch location.
Sanitary measures
Dirty dishes, dust and dirt landing on food and them not removing the food that was contaminated.

Wonderful Stay

We didn't know what to expect when we booked, but the reviews have been fairly good for this hotel. It was amazing. The amenities were great. The food was very good both in the buffet and in the à la carts. What made this state especially amazing was Pedro who served us in the buffet morning and night. He made us feel like we were coming home every day. He is an amazing person and a wonderful benefit to this hotel. We also want to give a shout out to Andreas, who also worked in the buffet and who is definitely a Pedro in training lol The only thing I would say is the swim up bar really needs to do something about their drinks. Instead of using slushy machines, we need to learn to use a blender to crush ice because the slushy machine is down one hour after the bar opens. Other than that, we are definitely coming back to this resort. [Details]

Pedro and Andreas at the buffet and the staff in general that makes this trip well worthwhile
The weak points
The swim up bar. It really needs to improve. Slushy machines are not the answer. They cannot keep up with the amount of people in the pool and are down almost 1 hour after they open.

Grand Sirenis Punta Cana Review

, Cambridge, ON
2024-06-03
The hotel grounds were well manicured. The pool was deep, but had shallower areas for the kids.
The waterpark was great for the kids, big and small. Different areas for them to enjoy.
The coffee shop was fantastic, as was the "food truck". Always had great food there.
The beach was great - perfect for the kids and didnt have any issues finding a chair or a place in the shade.

The animation crew was great.

The hotel has an app that you can use to check out daily activities, hotel info, and book a la cartes. It was extremely useful and helpful.

The a la cartes had great food, but not so great service. We liked how we could book as many as we wanted to during our stay. The Japanese and Steak House were our favourites.

A few issues:
Our room was nice, but the bathroom was dated. We had a leak in the ceiling directly above the toilet. The TV in the room didn't work either. We didn't call the front desk, as it would be too much of an inconvenience for us, as we have heard from many people that they won't show up or repair, so we just put up with it.

Major issue with the hotel was the service. The majority of people working at the hotel looked like they didn't want to be there. Most were not very friendly, which we found odd, as we have travelled frequently and have been to the Dominican many times, and the service was always exceptional. We were often sat at tables that had not been cleaned off and had dirty dishes everywhere. After an awkward 10-15 minutes someone would come and remove the dirty dishes, and wipe the table down, but it was extremely unappealing. We would rarely have someone offer to fill our glasses with water or coffee, which we found odd compared to other trips we have been on. We are good tippers and tip at every meal, regardless if we get good or bad service, as we understand the wages and work required. But it didn't seem to matter. Service was definitely sub par here. We stayed at the Grand Sirenis Riveira Maya last year, and the service there was exceptional.

The bars all had long lineups all the time, and the beach bar was always behind on cooking the burgers. It always had long lineups.

I didn't like how much we were approached on the beach and asked to buy excursions or trinkets, even after telling them multiple times we were not interested. This persisted even when my two kids were having temper tantrums and I was trying to deal with that at the same time. It was pretty annoying.

This was our 10 year anniversary trip, and I mentioned it to the hotel ahead of time and nothing was done, not even a notice on the door. When we got there I noticed that you could add rose pedals, etc for an extra cost.

Perhaps the reason why the staff seemed so unpleasant was because many guests were absolute pigs. They packed their plates full of food, only ate half of it, and left it for staff to clean up. Kids on iPads everywhere, and parents not parenting their kids when they are misbehaving. Treating the entire place like it is a zoo for their kids. And this is coming from someone who brought a 7 and 3 year old with us. The guests had no respect for the property, the service staff, and treated the place like it was their personal garbage can. I understand this is outside of the hotel's control, but it is worthy to note if people are looking to get away from that sort of piggish behaviour.

Punta Cana is beautiful. Beach was fantastic and the transfer to and from the hotel is great.
My only statement to others is it isn't a great place to snorkel, as there is a lot of murky water from the waves. The area that you can swim doesn't have much structure, and the area outside of the buoys is protected, so they blow the whistles if you go on the opposite side of the buoys.
Overall, I would say we are done with the Grand Sirenis chain, as it doesn't seem to be worth the cost. Defiantly not a 5 star hotel. I would compare it to a 4 star hotel in Cuba. Even the food selection reminded me of Cuba.

We will not be going back to this resort. [Details]

This hotel exceeded our expectations. From check in to check out and everything in between. Staff are well educated, friendly and accommodating. We have called front desk to fix our room AC they showed up in 10 min and dealt with the problem immediately. Food is so tasty with plenty of options in every corner you go, no matter where your are you won't go hungry. The A la carte was an amazing experience , we loved the Japanese, Italian and steak house.. plenty of lounges on the beach, it was a bit busy at the pool and all shades were taken but still managed to find shaded lounges every day. We will definitely go back to the resort. [Details]

This resort has many great features, but they struggle to serve 1000s of people all at once. 90% of the food was really bad. One in our party and so many others we talked to had food poisoning. Line ups for drinks (drinks were great though). Some staff friendly but many just seem to be getting their job done without a smile.
Beach is lovely, not many polapas but we were able to find shade daily in the palm trees which was really nice. Best advice is to be cautious what you eat! [Details]

Holiday gone wrong

, Bowmanville, ON
2024-01-09
Let me start off with the Service, it was extremely slow. The bars took 10 to 15 minutes to get a drink, longer if my step son was trying to get himself one. Staff were very dismissive and pretty rude. I asked one of the bar staff what a certain drink was and he stuck up his nose to me and said VIP only. I understand there's a vip only menu but I was just wondering what the drink was called, the staff member could have told me the name of the drink then politely said sorry maam that's on the vip drink menu. Instead he was very rude about it. There were a couple other small situations with the same server but thats all I will say about him.
The buffet was terrible, food was ok but being seated, waiting for a server to come over to give us utensils, napkins and take our drink order took forever!  I went in once with just my step son and I. They didn't even acknowledge we were there, we had to find our own drinks, utensils and napkins, our table was filthy. Along with the chairs and the table has a fowl smell(which seem to be every time we went in there. We were there for 10 days) We went in the buffet to grab a few things when we came back our table was cleared (we had just gotten there) all we got was a oh thought you were done. No replacements for anything. We went in one morning for breakfast and there was a giant Cockroach just laying on the floor by our table and the staff just picked it up and laughed.
The a la cartes service was just slow. Good though.
There's a small coffee shop on the resort that makes great coffees but the staff are miserable.
My husband was violently ill for 2 full days(like didnt sleep he was so sick).

The water park was fun but the slides need maintenance. My family got pretty banged up with cuts, scrapes and quite a few bruises.
There's a very small arcade on the resort. My family and I went into play some games. After playing a couple, we had staff come up to us trying to tell us it's not free to play and that it's 10 USD per game per person. There were no signs or staff when we came in, indicating we had to pay. If you need to pay, staff should inform guests before entering.

Last but certainly not least we had someone come into our room and steal from us. Our safe was not in proper working condition. When I told staff they said that "all the safes are like that" so we did not use. Once we reported to staff that we were robbed. They accused us of hidding our money, searched our room and belongings, twice! Once that was finished, said they were going to looked over the cameras but "no one was in our room" when they looked so, of course nothing was done.
To finish off our trip, When at the airport my husband was robbed.
This whole experience has put a bad taste in my mouth and because of it, I will not be returning. [Details]

Honestly an amazing week stay at the Grand Sirenis resort. The food was great, the resort (all of it) was always clean, the staff was friendly and welcoming and helpful, the entertainement team was awesome, the activities I did and shows I saw were fun. There was always something to do at every hour of the day. The pool and beach are awesome. Sometimes service at the buffets could be a little slow (ex; we had to find someone to get utensils or go get our own water a few times) but overall really good. The concierges were super helpful and available (we worked with Boucard and Darisleidy). I am very prone to bug bites and got eaten alive on the beach and in the resort at night (not sure if mosquitos or sand mites) but I don't think that's the resort's fault. You have to get up early if you want a good spot on the beach or by the pool! [Details]

NOT A GREAT EXPERIENCE

, Waterdown, ON
2023-03-21
The hotel is a little dated, not a big deal. The rooms are small and have no fans in the bathrooms which leave them very wet and mildew smelling.
The pools are not maintained very well and smell strong of urine.
The water park was fun but also dated with slides shut down often.

While we were there there was the norovirus going around the resort was not very proactive in trying to get ahead of the virus and stepping up cleaning protocols. In fact it was opposite. They fully ignored it as if nothing was happening. It was like a barfing apocalypse. There were kids projectile vomiting in many locations of the property no one was helping the parents. My husband and i were grabbing garbage bags to help out. Staff just walk by and smile. It hit our family as well. The food is terrible not kept at proper temps and I believe that the virus was coming from the food because as soon as you started to feel somewhat human and try to eat you would start at square one again. We ended up buying chips everyday and eating white buns in our room. The ambulance was at our resort daily pricing people up for dehydration. The guest services were ordering medication for patrons that cost $$ 220 us dollars to make you feel better. The medication was deworming medication. This was my children's first all inclusive but My husband and I have been to many including 9 times to Punta Cana and have never experienced anything like this. Overall this hotel is a Health risk and I would not go if they gave me a free week. The list can go on and on but these were the main issues. [Details]

In fact I have only written one other review before but I felt it necessary to make sure people were aware of what they are going to experience if they book to go here. The resort was disgustingly dirty, cockroaches in the a la cartes, the one buffet smelled like urine and the staff were unbelievably ignorant and rude. The maid would come in and take the tip we left out for her and not even clean the room.
The weak points
Small items went missing from our room (deodorant, hair clips, etc.). The maid would leave the cart in the hall and everyone from our hallway would have to go down and get our towels and linens ourselves. Rat/mouse poop in my rice.
Sanitary measures
This resort was the dirtiest resort I've ever been too. Hand foot and mouth outbreak, washrooms smelled atrocious, maids and maintenance staff did not want to work.

A pleasant trip

, Ottawa, ON
2023-01-11
We have been to this resort 20 years ago, and we here positively impressed with the renovations. As stated in the itemized entries, everything was good to excellent. We believe three things are worth mentioning for prospective tourists.

First, it seems that the hurricanes in the previous years took their toll on the beach, and especially on the sea entry areas - they become more abrupt and with significant deep holes ... but if you visit the neighbouring resorts, the Sirenis beach is excellent by comparison.

Second, the pandemic years took their toll on the staffing quality - most of the staff seemed quite inexperienced, and even with their best efforts, small chaotic situations occurred often ... but the enthusiasm was there and I'm sure this can improve quite fast (maybe a few experienced people here and there could provide live examples).

Third, when leaving the Dominican Republic, a 20 USD departure fee per person has to be paid at the airport. My understanding is that some companies deal with this as part of the package, and some are not. We were surprised at the airport to have to pay this fee in cash, without any "official" way to get the required USD's (the first currency exchange desk is well inside the airport). We were able to get Dominican pesos from an ATM and we found some kind of a luggage helper "boss" to do the currency exchange at an outraging rate, but the whole situation was kind of stressful. My family stayed here for a much needed vacation. The staff in the buffet and Brazilian restaurant were wonderful (the only two we attended regularly). The room was updated and clean. The entertainment was out of this world! The dances and themes were really creative! I don't think I've danced that much since being in my twenties! My daughter (8 years old) loved the kids club! The activities were fun and hands on. It was a great space for her to make friends since she's an only child. Overall, we loved everything about this resort and will absolutely return in the future. This resort is a great mid-range 4 star resort. It is great for families with kids. The waterpark is great - although showing signs of wear. The beach out front of the resort is fantastic. We found the buffet to be a little underwhelming depending on the night's theme. The a-la-carte restaurants were just fine - food was good. The decor of them could use some updating. We never did see the Mediterranean or the French restaurant open. The lobby has a great pre-and post dinner atmosphere that lots of guest hang out at for a pre and/or post dinner drink. [Details]

We just returned from Grand Sirenis. There were some high points - the coffee shop is great, the lobby is quite a nice spot to spend a hot mid-day, the Brazilian a la carte restaurant is excellent, and the family room is a great layout for families of 5 with small kids (there's a limit on the size of the beds), but there are some real improvements that need to be made to this resort if they expect to compete with other chains. The cleanliness is not up to standards, to the extent that they allow the on-site peacocks to defecate on the balcony of the buffet restaurant and it's not cleaned up, or prevented. It was disgusting. The room cleanliness wasn't amazing, but wasn't as bad as the overall resort. The water park is pretty old-looking as well, and again, the service there was abysmal. We met some nice servers, and our concierge was very nice, but the service all around is not nearly as friendly as I've experienced at other places, even with tipping, which is expected. Many things weren't open - only one buffet restaurant the whole week, some of the slides in the park, and the a la cartes aren't great either (aside from Brazilian). There is also rampant smoking, which, had we known, we wouldn't have gone there. There are cigarette butts all over the beach, garbage on the grounds and just all around unkempt-ness. We did use the kids club three times, for short stints. Two cooking classes and one part of a movie. The staff were pretty lame - on their phones pretty much all the time - not caregivers we would expect to do things with our kids, but they were fine for "child minding". The sand is awesome, the water is amazing (though pretty wavy for small children), but for a little more money, you could go to a Beaches resort and get much better service and a much cleaner resort. Lastly, if you go, don't go on the "breakfast on the beach" sell, which is just to try to get you to sign up for the club option. The club option is insanely expensive, and the presentation and breakfast took 3.5 HOURS for us to get through, even though they said it would be 90 minutes. You don't find out about the price until you've gone through the whole thing - it's like a really bad car salesman pitch. Our poor kids. We did get to see the club rooms, which were super nice, but this resort needs to focus on servicing the guests it has, even the "regular" ones, not just trying to get you to sign up for more expensive options. This resort is also trying to be a party resort as well as a family resort, which doesn't work. [Details]

This was our first trip to the Dominican Republic, and we were not disappointed. From the beautiful airport to arriving back there to go home, it was fantastic.
"Cappuccino" was a great host/guide on the bus from the airport. The resort was beautiful, right on the beach and plenty of pools, and had activities all day long. The buffet restaurants were filled with almost any food you can imagine, and we thought it was delicious as well. The a la carte restaurants we ate at were very good, indeed, the food amazing, with the Italian our favourite service, and the Brazilian our favourite food. The Christmas Eve was a special evening where even the resort managers were out greeting the guests and reservations were required for the buffet, where they served every Christmas food you could imagine, except brussel sprouts [Details]
