Our first experience with Bahia Luxury hotels was in 2023 when we stayed at the Luxury Boganvillia and truly enjoyed the property, especially the golf at Oceans 4 golf course. So we thought we would try another the Luxury Ambar in 2024 and the Luxury Akumal in 2025; partly because we loved the property layout with all the facilities within very easy walking distances. We have travelled to the Caribbean for about 40 years with about 15 vacations in the DR and the Ambar has given us the best dining experience ever. With 7 restaurants at the hotel and about 15 more to choose from throughout the accompanying Bahia properties (all serviced by on demand transport) - without doubt the best variety and the best quality of food and service we have ever had. Our only disappointment with the very limited English speaking TV services, especially the lack of North American news broadcasts. Looking forward the the Luxury Akumal in February. [Details]

The hotel and room were both amazing. The swim up to the room was such a treat. We used it in the morning, before dinner and late night. The buffet was very good at Palmyra and by the beach. The beach was beautiful, so fun to bob in the waves. The vendors which were few were very respectful and the beach service for drinks were great. We ate at 5 of the a la carte and all were fabulous except the Mexican which was a little boring. Our room was perfectly situated for access to the amazing pool with swim up bar and very close to the beach. Lots of activities to keep you busy if you so choose. The spa was lovely. 80 minutes of bliss. I would return to this hotel and recommend it to others. Our travel agent made the recommendation for this hotel and we loved it. I travelled with my sister. This was our second time staying at a Bahia resort, and I'll definitely choose Bahia again for our next all-inclusive vacation. We had a fantastic experience overall, with excellent food, drinks, and outstanding service! The resort is huge, and we were glad to have chosen Ambar, as it's closest to the beach. The beach itself is beautiful, but I wish there were signs at the beach reminding guests not to reserve pool or beach loungers. There were also government workers on the beach selling souvenirs, hats, sunglasses, massages, cigars, and excursions. Fortunately, they weren't too pushy when we declined.
The one downside of our trip, aside from occasional rain, was the over 60-minute presentation for the Privilege Club. Even after making it clear that the numbers didn't add up for us, they kept applying pressure with more deals, financing options, negotiation tactics, and a final push from the manager. I'll never sit through one of those again, no matter what “gift” they offer (like the $80 shop gift certificate).
Despite that, it's a fantastic resort, and I would definitely recommend it! [Details]

I have been in this hotel several times since 2008. This is a nice place to be in, but unfortunately, it is no luxury anymore. The management trying very hard to keep the hotel on high standards and I wish them good luck. What do you need on your vacation in the resort? The clean, good smells towel? Has not been delivered. The clean and nice beach? Yes! The variety of tasty food? Overall not bad. When you come to the main place to eat you feel like a beggar for a piece of meat and good service. Everyone openly demands tips for the food you already paid for and they do not give you anything else in return, but attitude and intrusive service. There is an unpleasant environment on the beach with non-stop vendors. Overall the resort is not bad, clean, and safe. [Details]

The beach is nice. Gardeners are doing artwork to make the landscape beautiful. Once we got excellent service and food in the Limbo restaurant. The coffee Server Nono, is knowledgeable and outstanding in customer service. Thank you NONO.

The lack of real customer service. There were a lot of fleas in the lobby. Every night the food left over from my room neighbor has not been picked up from the floor and attracted huge cockroaches. In 10 days of my stay, they never change the bed sheets.

The hotel overall is a great place to stay. The resort is clean, food was good, service was great. Staff always smiled no matter what they were doing. The better speaking English staff were always on the front line that had direct contact with the travelers. I was surprised to see some of the louder entertainment at the resort however it was enjoyed by many. WIFI worked well all over the resort including the beach. We did have a problem with our room the first night. However this was rectified the next morning after a bit of negotiation with the front desk Supervisor. You do not often find comfortable beds down south, however these were better than other resorts. This should be promoted as a resort for couples. [Details]

Having access to all other property facilities, excluding the buffets. The violinist was the best entertainment in my opinion. Compared to other other visits to all inclusive resorts, overall the Ambar was the best yet.
The weak points
They should have more staff monitoring beach for travelers from other Bahia resorts sneaking in. The app needs a little work and didn't always work which was frustrating. I do not recommend for singles.

A massive complex, each hotel is sufficiently secluded to their own guests. The availability of wifi connections was excellent, and is played into by the resort for in-house app usage and convenience, but as a vacationer, getting away from my phone was tough to do. Despite having recently suffered a major hurricane, very little evidence to customers, which speaks to strong leadership. Staff enthusiasm & people skills are front and centre in all interactions, making guests feel valued. Main square for all resorts showed signs of low economy, with many closed storefronts. Like most places, some shows (poolside & night) are cliche, but they also had a few that are unique - like a CdS-style circus show, and a fire-dance show, which were great and well executed. My husband and I spent the week covering St. Valentine's Day at this resort, which was also our 21st Anniversary. We were both very pleased with the resort and staff there. It was very new and clean. There were a lot of people there but you didn't feel crowded at all. The food was always pretty good, if I couldn't find anything I liked, there was always hamburgers, pizza, pasta dishes, or fries, but I always managed to find something I liked because there was just so much. The Ala Cartes had really good food, especially the Limbo which I believe was French cuisine. The beach was always cleaned everyday (it was beautiful), and the pool area was very large and clean as well. They 24/7 room service and kept our bar fridge stocked. The room was always very clean on our return from the beach thanks to our awesome maid, Angela! At night we would go to the lobby to meet another couple we met while there, and the resort always had some sort of entertainment in the lobby as well as outside. We were also there for Superbowl and I couldn't believe the spread they put on at the Sports Bar! Pizza, wings, fries, burgers! And the biggest TV screen outdoors I've ever seen! That night was a busy and fun night! My husband and I decided a while back that we would never go back to the same resort as we wanted to try them all before we couldn't travel anymore, but after staying at this resort, we both agreed that this was one that would be worth the return. And thanks to an amazing butler, Samuel, who assisted us all week long as well as check-in and check-out and expedited everything for us, there was no waiting :) He was fabulous! [Details]

Had a great time at the Bahia Principe Luxury Ambar. Beautiful resort with comfortable rooms. Fabulous beach - one day there was a lot of seaweed in the ocean, but other than that we went swimming every day. Restaurants were spectacular, but we had trouble getting reservations at all the a la carte restaurants we wanted to go to. Vegetarian options at the restaurants and buffets were limited (as is usually the case), but most restaurants had at least something we could eat. We travelled as a couple to Luxury Bahia Principe Ambar Feb 4-11,2020. We were completely spoiled during our stay here! At check in we received our welcome cocktail and cool cloth and were quickly checked in and upgraded to a swim out room at our request. Our butler was very attentive and always answered our requests and made a point of checking on us throughout the resort when we would run into him. The food is amazing both at the buffets and the a la cartes! There is something for everyone -you will never go hungry! We even enjoyed the room service! The beach is just beautiful and the ocean was unbelievably warm! We had a palapa each day so I could enjoy the shade while my husband could sun worship. The waiters on the beach were plentiful and checked back often for your order. The staff throughout the resort were the best we have ever experienced! So kind, helpful and always courteous. The rooms were always clean and the beds were pretty comfortable. We had turn down service every night. I did request extra pillows from the pillow menu. Coffee shop has great coffee. You can visit the adjoining resorts without issue although it's huge so bring your runners! We did not do any excursions as we have done most of them in previous trips to the Dominican. We enjoyed the music each night in the lobby but didn't go to any other shows at the theatre of sports bar. We loved our time here so much we are already planning to go back! [Details]

We stayed at the luxury grand bahia princepe. The resort is great. Well maintained property. Newly renovated place great ambiance, lots of restaurants, good entertainment, friendly and attentive staff. We had a pleasant stay will highly recommend couples to go to this resort. The beach is beautiful but gets the occasional unavoidable seaweed depending on the tide or time of year. Beach crew are very particular and prompt about clearing the seaweed but the tourists do not seem to be bothered. We had an amazing time would love to go there again. [Details]

We had a great time in the very very hot June weather. The food was fantastic and most of the staff are very friendly (only encountered one that we avoided in the buffet for the week - literally took my plate out from under my hand holding my fork???). Room service was also good and all included. The resort is beautiful, pool, pool bar, and pool restaurant Las Brisas are great (staff great at the pool bar). Highly recommend the adults only and would pick Ambar again over Aquamarine as it's closer to the beach and seems nicer. 7 days didn't seem to be enough as the resort as a whole is massive and we didn't really leave our area at all (mostly because it was SO hot).
The beach unfortunately had a ton of seaweed and they have staff out there for hours and hours raking it up - not sure if it was the time of the year, but the particular location was hit harder by seaweed than other areas we went to (Macao beach was GORGEOUS, no seaweed at all, very clear water - visited through a dune buggy tour - real tourist money grab, lots of just trying to sell you stuff - Dominican is not a place I would do an excursion again; Costa Rica much more worthwhile and real cultural experience).
They hand you a drink as soon as you get to the lobby. We had to wait almost 2 hours for our room to be ready (so they said; didn't seem like it though, I think our "butler" just made a mistake - don't bother with the "butler service", we never saw the guy again and it seems useless). We luckily had the lobby bar to sit at and start having a few drinks so we didn't really mind, but the "butler" seemed to forget we were even waiting after he said he would let us know it was ready so we had to approach the check-in counter again and voila! the room was ready and it was a completely different room number from the first. The main complaint I have is that when we got to the room (very nice room overall) the floors were filthy and they weren't cleaned all week. Tipped the maid almost every day, but didn't find any advantage to it.
Overall highly recommend this resort! Tip servers and bartenders well and you'll have a great time. [Details]

First time at this hotel..I can't say how much we loved it and how incredible it was! I have nothing but good things to say about it. The food was to die for...it was like being on a cruise ship! There is something for everyone at every meal. The rooms were huge and the shower was big enough to fit 4 people. The resort was clean and the grounds kept immaculate. The pool was perfect...never crowded. I would go back to this resort tomorrow if I could. Book now!! [Details]

Our November Luxury Ambar vacation
We have travelled to the Caribbean for about 40 years with about 15 vacations in the DR and the Ambar has given us the best dining experience ever. With 7 restaurants at the hotel and about 15 more to choose from throughout the accompanying Bahia properties (all serviced by on demand transport) - without doubt the best variety and the best quality of food and service we have ever had.
Our only disappointment with the very limited English speaking TV services, especially the lack of North American news broadcasts.

Bahia is Best!
The one downside of our trip, aside from occasional rain, was the over 60-minute presentation for the Privilege Club. Even after making it clear that the numbers didn't add up for us, they kept applying pressure with more deals, financing options, negotiation tactics, and a final push from the manager. I'll never sit through one of those again, no matter what “gift” they offer (like the $80 shop gift certificate).
Despite that, it's a fantastic resort, and I would definitely recommend it! [Details]

The management trying very hard to keep the hotel on high standards and I wish them good luck. What do you need on your vacation in the resort? The clean, good smells towel? Has not been delivered. The clean and nice beach? Yes!
The variety of tasty food? Overall not bad. When you come to the main place to eat you feel like a beggar for a piece of meat and good service. Everyone openly demands tips for the food you already paid for and they do not give you anything else in return, but attitude and intrusive service. There is an unpleasant environment on the beach with non-stop vendors. Overall the resort is not bad, clean, and safe. [Details]

The beach unfortunately had a ton of seaweed and they have staff out there for hours and hours raking it up - not sure if it was the time of the year, but the particular location was hit harder by seaweed than other areas we went to (Macao beach was GORGEOUS, no seaweed at all, very clear water - visited through a dune buggy tour - real tourist money grab, lots of just trying to sell you stuff - Dominican is not a place I would do an excursion again; Costa Rica much more worthwhile and real cultural experience).
