Good depending on what you are looking for

The Ocean El Faro was a good place to stay depending on what you are looking for during a stay. The pool was great. The beach is not good for swimming because of the rocks on the resort however right beside the resort there is better swimming. The buffet had lots of options and was pretty good. The a la carte restaurants were not memorable since the food at the buffet was just as good if not better. The snack bars were pretty good as well. There were lots of bars and no lack of options for those who are looking for this.

The coffee bar was definitely a highlight as you could get hot and cold drinks throughout the day. Lots of other activities and programming going on through the day.

Our room on the adults only side was great with a great deck and shower, however I did hear from others that some of the other rooms felt damp.

We felt safe on the resort however had money taken from our “safe” on the first day even though we had tipped that day as well. We had to carry all our valuables on us for the rest of our trip. [Details]

Resort beautiful

Beautiful and modern, resort is well laid out and rooms are well appointed and clean with small patio and hammock chair, adults only side separate from family side. Small lazy river, expect to get wet! Many large clean pools. Reserve your pool loungers early. Pool bar & drink servers efficient and friendly.
Beach is rocky and surf is rough, find the lagoon before the last day instead.
Food is mediocre, Sakura a la carte was a fun experience and food was plentiful and tasty. Skip Route 66.
Buffet was unimpressive, lots of choices but poorly identified or not identified at all. Many items not recognizable and not identified. Food servers and table servers at buffet looked miserable and were largely unfriendly. Breads and cheeses were delicious. Overall experience was very good aside from the food. If you're looking for delicious meals….this isn't the place [Details]

Amazing resort

We came to this resort and were very excited to stay here! My husband & I booked this resort after my son & his gf had gone & I am SO happy we did. It was clean and comfortable every part we went to. The beach is not good for swimming but the little inlet beside the privilege area was a nice spot. Our room was the closest to this spot so it made our days amazing! We did do the lazy river twice and enjoyed our time there as Manuel, Gernado and Antony took excellent care of us.
Our room was huge, we stayed in the Master Royal Privilege Ocean View Suite and it was gorgeous. We were on the ground floor so we had some crab visitors in our jacuzzi a few times! Mackendy was our beach guy & he was amazing! We enjoyed all the food options and also took advantage of late night ordering too, every morning we ordered room service for breakfast which made our mornings so much better. We got to know the street vendor people as well which made our beach time interesting as well. We stayed on the El Beso side of the resort and our room was the furthest room from the front lobby you can possibly get LOL
I will say do not go to Route 66 as the food was deplorable. [Details]

Great resort. We really enjoyed our stay. The resort is clean. Our room was nice and the bed was extremely comfortable. The selection à la carte restaurants was good. We tried the Steakhouse, Sakura, Blue Moon, and Dolce Vita. My favourite was the Steakhouse, and my wife's was Dolce Vita.
Overall it was a great experience and we look forward to going back one day. [Details]

Ocean El Faro - El Beso was a nice resort. It was bigger than we expected. The rooms were nice and the staff kept them clean every day. I liked the fact that stores, restaurants, entertainment and buffet were all in a centralized area, we called it the Boulevard!
The food at the buffet was okay, lots of variety but often the food was cold. I noticed that they had so called theme nights Mexican etc, with large numbers of Canadians I think that maybe you could host a night for Canadians and serve food with gravies and or sauces. Just a thought! I'm a cook with a catering business so I know that pleasing everyone is impossible!
The steak house was fantastic and Route 66 was good. The Blue Moon could use some improvement. Unfortunately we didn't get to the Japanese or Mexican so no reviews there.
Both snack bars were great, food was tasty and hot when we received it, kudos to the cooks and servers!
The lazy river was a nice addition to activities for both kids and adults.
The Silent disco was great as well, different then what we are used to but we thoroughly enjoyed it! [Details]

Stay away if you can afford to!

, Mississauga, ON

Accommodation:

Our stay at El Beso Ocean El Faro in the Dominican Republic was a huge disappointment from the very beginning. The room we were assigned was outdated, in desperate need of renovation, and had a nonfunctioning AC system. The electrical outlets were falling apart and the entrance of the room door was laden with insects. The rooms we were placed in were isolated and not easily accessible raising safety concerns. It was not the luxurious experience we were expecting from a resort with such a price tag. The only person doing their job at at the hotel was Katarina from Guest Services who eventually moved us to a decent room after two failed attempts.

Food:
The dining experience at El Beso Ocean El Faro was equally disappointing. The buffet was underwhelming, with a limited variety of options that rarely changed. The food quality was mediocre at best, and we often found ourselves eating the same uninspiring dishes day in and day out. We decided to try one of the resort's specialty restaurants, but even there, the food was subpar. The portions were small, and the flavors were bland. We were expecting a taste of the local cuisine, but what we got was a poor imitation. Also, it was nearly impossible to find reservations to the resturants without upgrading our stay.
Beach:

The beach at El Beso Ocean El Faro was one of the few redeeming qualities of this resort, but even that had its issues. While the sandy shores were picturesque, the beach was crowded with cattle. The immediate access to the beach looked like an excavation site and you had to walk past it to get to a decent stretch of beach.
Staff:
Perhaps the most frustrating aspect of our stay was the attitude and competence of the staff. Many employees appeared disinterested and unengaged, which left us feeling ignored and unimportant. We encountered some language barriers that made simple requests challenging to communicate. The service was slow, and it felt like a chore for the staff to attend to our needs. It was evident that customer satisfaction was not a priority for the majority of the employees we interacted with.
Our experience at El Beso Ocean El Faro in the Dominican Republic was far from what we had hoped for. The accommodation was outdated, the food was lackluster, the beach looked like a dystopian war zone, and the staff's attitude and service were disappointing. This resort did not live up to its promises, and we left feeling let down and dissatisfied with our stay. We would not recommend El Beso Ocean El Faro to anyone looking for a truly enjoyable and relaxing vacation. [Details]

Ocean el faro/el beso review

I stayed on the el beso side of the resort and it was great (no kids running around my room yelling like at other resorts). the overall resort is beautiful, staff is so friendly. Beach is beautiful but too many rocks which can be dangerous if you fall on them. The biggest downfall for me was the entertainment. The entertainers did not interact with the guests too much and there was zero night life. everything closed so early and it was very boring for a young couple. in my opinion, this resort is more for people who strictly want to relax and nothing else. So I read all these reviews about poor service and moody smell in the room and etc. I went in September so off peak season and my stay was amazing. Resort is less busy and service was amazing. 10/10. I will say I did have to change rooms because the first smelled moldy but the second one was better but still smelled a bit moldy. (With a humid climate you will get this moldy smell) Food is really good but can always be better. We tried all the restaurants you need reservations for but Ofcos have to wake up by 8am to reserve. We liked all except the Italian. Resort is BEAUTIFUL. Juan and Francis at the pool bar have my heart. They go above and beyond. I will def go back. [Details]

Beautiful Resort, clean, everyone was super friendly and nice. LOTS of options for food if you can get reservations. Swim up bar was amazing!! WIFI is 10/10
The weak points
They try to force you so buy a privilege membership and do it in such a shady way, it's very upsetting. They call it the “welcome gift”.They are too heavy in tips. Can't swim in the beach. Too rocky and too deep.

Beautiful entrance and reception, staff was very friendly.
Room was very spacious but had a very strong smell of insecticide.
There was a sign for “adults only” at the buffet, but there was children digging in the food.
Beach had to many rocks in the water and ground, my husband sprain his ankle.
In general we enjoyed the sunny days, the friendly staff. But wasn't worthy for the price, definitely was not 5 stars. [Details]

The room was wonderful. Large, clean, lovely bathroom with plenty of space. The shower was top notch. Very quiet in the room, never hear any noise from other guests. The only noise was daytime pool activities, which one would expect.
The beach was a bit rough sea wise but that coast of always rough seas. The drinks were good, service was good. The only issue was there was a serious lack of restrooms. A very long walk to get back to ones room as there was only one stall at the adults only side. Not enough for the amount of ppl around. buffetsf food was ok, not getting a 10. The restaurants were better, but one needed reservations so that posses a challenge if you are not on top of that ... only one reservations can be made on the day of so you need to be an early bird to get what you want. The weak points
If travelling as a group/family, they don't accommodate requests for rooms close by, so don't hope/bother. Our room fridge and hot water didn't work, no alarm clock - but all were fixed the next day. Just little things - nothing that spoiled our vacation.

We have stayed twice at El Faro El Beso. Both times we enjoyed ourselves. The resort is very large, so we got our steps in each day! There are a dozen restaurants and snack bars, which offer a varied menu, with some staples too. Drinks are served in paper cups or the occasional plastic cups and stemware, so I recommend bringing your own insulated tumbler. The beach is nice, with a wavy portion and a calm portion, protected by a sea wall. [Details]

Big. Good bar service. Many pools and beach options. Food is good.
The weak points
There's a subset of people who will try to "reserve" loungers at the pool and the beach. They tie or clip resort towels to them, then leave for hours. Staff will remove the towels at night, but leave them during the day.
Sanitary measures
Surfaces seem clean, but none of the sanitizer stations worked. I relied on soap and water in the many public washrooms.

EL BESO AT OCEAN EL FARO

I will give to this resort 4*
This resort is NOT located in Punta Cana= white sand Caribbean Sea. The location is 40 km away from Punta Cana a 50 minutes away. The beach in this town is not nice and not turquoise water no white sand it have a lot of seaweed.
NO sanitary measures when you arrive or during regarding Covid-19 or intestinal infections, no hand sanitizer or soap in the main washrooms the dispensers are not working or are empty the dispensers are just for display only.
The lobby is very nice big with A/C. but slow check in.
The adults side it have few big pools which are clean and not crowded. The pool bar is nice and the bartender are really nice and prepared good drinks. The bartender which have braces is really nice and friendly I will give 9 points. The activities are good Franco is nice and alway happy to help.
The DJ. at the pool need to spice up the music.
The rooms are not luxury but are nice, clean and comfortable, mini fridge pop, beer, bottles of water.
The adults buffet is good and organized, good food breakfast and lunch close for dinner :( Which is a problem because no many a la carta restaurants, you will force to go to the main buffet El Mercado which is a zoo because is very big and the kids are touching the food with they hand and many people there and everyone had touched the buffet spoon and no gel sanitizer or wipes a the end of our trip few people were sick coughing. Brink your own gel sanitizer because 100s of people touch the same spoon at the buffet and no gel or wipes.
The main plaza is good but for shows majority is karaoke only Michael Jackson show, Dominican and beach show. For adults at night time NO separate shows many kids running.
It Is a new big resort if you are in the adult side you have to walk a bit because not transportation to get to the main plaza or back.
The Mike's coffee really good.
A la carta is only 2 available we were able to book Mexican and French the service and food are good 8 points the other ones are close or are privileged.
The buffet El mercado is not good.
Management need to step up with sanitary measures. [Details]

Well Managed Resort

, Lawrencetown, HA
2022-04-11
We booked a 10 day holiday at the adult section (El Beso) of the Ocean El Faro resort in Punta Cana DR. This resort is a very large and recently built (3-4 years old) complex comprising @ 16 separate 3 story buildings split into an adult section and family section. Each section has is own pools and snack bars although you can, in reality use any of the amenities. There is a main buffet (with separate adult and family seating) as well as 8 a la carte restaurants. There is also an adults only breakfast and lunch buffet near the opposite end (beach side) of the resort. Other features include Mikes coffee, a gym, spa and a store.

The hotel is located along a remote section of beach @ 30 minutes from the Punta Cana airport. There is nothing within 2 kms either side of the resort so other than taking excursions from the hotel lobby you are essentially captive.

Overall this is a well managed resort. Rooms were clean and well appointed, mini bar was restocked daily with water, soda and a few beers. The grounds, pools and outdoor areas were well maintained. Staff were pleasant, friendly and attentive. The main buffet was well stocked with a wide variety of food, changed up daily including lots of fruit, breads, hot and cold dishes and healthy choices, cereals, ready made omelets, pasta, pizzas, burgers, and other meat dishes. something for every taste.
The snack bars near the pools featured nachos, hot dogs, occasional fired chicken or burgers and fries.

A la carte restaurants were generally quite impressive. We were only disappointed once out of the 7 we tried. The Gym was small but functional with all equipment in good repair. Mikes coffee was great but often busy and featured anything you could get in an American chain plus a great selection of deserts. The smaller adults only buffet featured a nice selection of fresh foods daily, a nice ambiance, and quieter feel.

The store had a wide variety of goods including pool toys, lotion, clothing snacks and liquid refreshments. Prices were predictably more expensive than you'd pay at home but not exorbitant.

Service overall was good to excellent. we always had coffee offered in the morning at the buffet although sometimes we had to be patient as staff were fairly busy. service on the a la cartes was excellent.

There was daily entertainment at 2 pools (family and adult) by the blue crew featuring events, water aerobics, games, water volleyball etc. If you prefer a quieter stay you could use another pool without entertainment. There were lounge chairs and a few shade umbrellas located around the pools but not enough for those that wanted one. Guests would deposit towels and personal items on chairs and reserve umbrellas. All umbrellas were reserved by @ 6:00 a.m. Most chairs were reserved by @ 10:00 a.m. There is some shade given by planted palm trees but not enough to satisfy demand.

There was nightly entertainment, a disco, bowling lanes, kids activities, regular events and a sports bar, more than enough to keep you occupied.

The beach was picturesque, however swimming in the ocean was limited by some rocky bottoms. The beach had lots of lounge chairs and woven palm tree type shade umbrellas. There was a nice onshore breeze daily which made the beach a cooler option on the hot days.

Guests were mostly Canadian with the largest group being francophones from Quebec.

Overall we very much enjoyed our stay [Details]

Not an adult only

We went to this resort with high expectation due to the Ocean El Faro Punta Cana Guess & Travellers group on Facebook, we quickly learned that this group doesn't allow any negative comments, so beware. This resort is NOT an adult only, we had kids in our pool, the buffet section marked adult only is full of kids, they do not bother so don't pay the extra for adult only. The resort lobby is very impressive and you are immediately welcomed by someone who takes really good care of you from giving you a tour of the resort and brings you to your room, we found out the hard way that this is Timeshare, they are all over and dressed in white. Our room was ok, El Beso was built quick, paint on floor, grout unfinished, entrance door would only open half way and we needed to ask for an air blower every day, many people where having room issues. The resort was at 50% capacity and they are short staff everywhere and in supplies. Buffet is always COLD and are always out of plates. The A la crate where good. The ocean is nice but there's rocks and with the waves could be dangerous, you can't walk this beach. Pools are very nice and big but really cold water. Overall I would give this resort a 6/10 and will probably never return, way better out there. [Details]

Not as good as expected

The hotel was only at 40 % capacity and we were told that every time we questioned why a bar wasn't open or opened later than advertised or when service was slow in a restaurant and it was usually slow. Be aware that the hotel tries to offer a vacation ownership and they are very persistent and do mislead you. If you simply say no thank you I do believe that you will be left alone. Our room was very good except that the air conditioning would not shut off even after reporting it 3 times but almost everyone else we talked to had bigger problems with there rooms and again it was because they were only 40% full. Food in most restaurants was not very good and in the buffets it was mostly not hot. Bottom line.. we will not go back to another Ocean resort unless the price is amazing. [Details]

The strong points
Our room was large and clean. Bed very comfortable and the sheets and towels were very nice and clean. Free wifi worked everywhere and the I was able to cast from my phone to the smart TV. Bars had good selection of liquor and staff was good.
The weak points
A lot of pressure from the Vacation ownership team.Service in most restaurants was very slow and most food was just OK. Buffet service was poor and most food was not hot.
