Beautiful Resort

A beautiful resort full of vegetation and very stylish architecture. Staff lots of fun but lots of solicitations on site which was a bit annoying.
Food good but could be improved. The food in the restaurants was pre-prepared and it showed. Some of it was cold and dry. The French restaurant was horrible and the service was bad. The buffet was always very good. Service at bar was nice. Beach was sometimes clean but the ocean was full of algae. We paid for an ocean view but got a kids' pool view. Very noisy. We complained and were switched to a lovely room with ocean view. The beds and pillows were amazing!
We had fun but will not go back. [Details]

High Expectations but a huge disappointment

Beautiful hotel, check in was quick- room was ready right at 3pm-
Directed to the room with our butler, opened the door and it had defiunately not been tended to. The butler checked to see what the next step was.
He then took us to another room that was a far cry from ocean view. We could see it at a glance and our view was not of a pool but a roof of some description. There are signs posted that you are not to reserve chairs- but everyday all chairs were reserved by 6am. As a matter of fact- our first full day there, after breakfast, we walked by the large pool. There was another couple our age sitting on the loungers. we asked if anyone was sitting beside them- only 2 brown towels on the loungers and no personal belongings. Their reply was that they had been for over an hour and nobody had occupied the chairs. We sat down. Within 15 minute a fellow with his two children came and told me that I was in his chairs and i needed to leave. He told me i was going to have to deal with his wife. Not long after that, his wife did show up and jumped on the chair that i was sitting on- can you say horrified. I then walked up to the Unique lounge to ask them what to do. These people were ignorantly aggressive. The butler told us all that they should have left some personal items and them they would have reserved their chairs- Again stunned. We got up and found a chair on the beach. It was awful, a huge scene was caused. The joke of it was, an awful lot of others approached us, feeling rather badly for us. The women actually had the audacity to call us rather nasty names and telling us to follow the rules. The management did not do anything. [Details]

Beautiful hotel the reception staff needs training

Reception is not nice and so is guest services. Sonia and henry weren't the greatest people to deal with after my first room was flooded. Victoria and joel were nice.
Buffet food was not good.
If you have kids this resort is not great because the walk from the pool to the kids area is way too far. I didnt realize till we got there.
All the staff at the pool side and restaraunt had good service. [Details]

Restaurants are really good. Hotel is nice and clean.
The weak points
Kids club is boring! Most activities mentioned on the app they don't even do. The walk from the pool to the coffee shop is too far. The walk from the pool to the ice cream shop and kids water park is too far. Reception employees are miserable!

Overall, this resort was excellent. A new resort that is tastefully decorated and clean. There are lots of excellent restaurants with the food being tasty. There is lots of variety with several a la cartes to choose from and large buffets to enjoy. There's something for everyone, whether a family or couple. The boulevard offered many shops and activities for everyone of all ages. We especially enjoyed the coffee shop! The strong points
Number of and variety of restaurants—the ones we tried were delicious. Several pools all catering to different people—families, adults, unique club members. Overall a clean resort from the rooms down to the grounds. Fantastic beachfront location!
The weak points
Unique butler service was no worth it. We asked for drinks and he said we had to go get them ourselves! Unique front desk was slow and not friendly. Staff was not friendly. Several staff couldn't speak English so ordering food/drink was challenging.

Overall the resort was well maintained. High chairs could use a more thorough cleaning. Rooms could be cleaned in a more timely manner as well. Our room was often cleaned right before dinner while we were trying to get ready.

Lopesan - One week stay experience

Overall a great and memorable experience at Lopesan Costa Bavaro Resort Spa and Casino for a family of 4 (2 kids less than 12 yrs old). The resort is large and beautiful with great architecture and design. It feels that every restaurant, part of the resort was carefully thought out with a unique experience. Due to the size of the resort, expect quite a bit of walking as family oriented activities can stretch from one side of the resort to another. It is manageable however. The night-time restaurants all offer a unique experience that we looked forward to every night. Pools were beautiful. The beach and seawater was filled with a lot of seaweed that had to be cleaned every morning. This made swimming a little difficult but this affected all of Bavaro. Overall a highly recommended resort and will come back.

Pros:
Great experience with different night-time restaurants and themes. Beautiful architectural design and resort that made walking and exploring the resort wonderful. Great pools and kids splash/water play area. Rooms were clean and well maintained. The resort and pool never felt crowded even at near full capacity. Gym was clean with lots of equipment and space.

Cons:
Need better clarity on Adults Only areas, Unique club members, and family. The resort is large and these designated areas overlap which add a little confusion what a family with kids has access to. The Kids Club need to be advertised better to identify the activities planned and what it offers.

Night time entertainment at the theatre is geared towards adults. They need better variety as they have the same entertainment most of the week that involved crowd participation. Would prefer more shows geared towards families.

Lots of seaweed in the beach and water. Affecting all of Bavaro at the time.

Cons: lots of seawead in the beach for all of Bavaro that made it hard to swim; night entertainment was geared towards adults mainly and not families; Bad room service food; Kids Club need improvement.

Stunning Resort, Unwelcoming Staff

We booked this vacation as we were celebrating our 10th year wedding anniversary. The hotel was absolutely beautiful. However, staff wasn't the friendliest and didn't care to serve you unless you gave a tip prior to being serviced. We've been to Dominican Republic many, many times before with our children and this is the very first time I've encountered unfriendly, unhappy and rude staff members. It's very disappointing especially paying what we did for a supposed 5 star hotel. The hotel also didn't to do anything for our 10th year anniversary. However, they were happy to accommodate for birthdays! We saw many celebrating birthdays and they were received with a warm welcome in their rooms. I found that ridiculous. In terms of food handling; I saw staff members rinsing bowls with tap water at the omelet stations and reusing them for other guests. I also got really ill on the very last day of our vacation with food poisoning from their Italian restaurant. Again, I they are using tap water to rinse dishes and to wash their fruits and vegetables which I found very concerning especially if you are not used to their water as you are from another country. Staff members on a whole did not want to serve you. Staff members at the front desk would ignore you and pretend to be busy when you needed help with anything pertaining to your room or if you needed money exchange, etc. Lastly, the resort's aesthetic are incredibly beautiful. However, I wouldn't return because they lack in service and didn't make you feel welcome. I was very disappointed and it certainly did change my mood. I feel my stay would have been better if the service was more welcoming and the staff members were more friendly. [Details]

The resort's grounds were incredibly beautiful.
The weak points
Staff members were unfriendly, unhappy and not very welcoming. It was hard to retrieve any help when needed. Beware that the hotel staff members rinses dishes, fruits and vegetables with tap water.

2022 Adventure Trip to Dominican Republic

clinic - scam---> they speak 80% Spanish, and use iphone to translate it in English. And then they send you bill to your room, and harass you at middle of night to pay the bills. There is no place to complain. Zero customer service. their Motto is: customer and clients who haas spent 6 to 8K dollars to come visit their resort, are always wrong and we can squeeze more money out of them.

Towel Station ==> only 1 located at main pool -- which is 10 minutes walk to water park for kids. Very inconvenience. as it closes at 5 p.m. the one at.beach never seen it open either.

Beautiful Lobby - but no garbage stations

Arrival: at arrival on our first day, there was no on at reception. very confusing. the people at entrance sent us to right, and the other party to left. at right where it says express "check in" there was no one to receive. The people who were guided to go left, also joined us, saying the people at other side directed us here. All of us were confused till after sometime, someone finally shows up.

==> for couples it may be okay resort, but for people with kids, this place is no good.

==> everything is sold in U.S. dollars rather than in their local currency. items sold outside are so much cheaper than the hotel.

==> coconut is sold for $5 U.S by the pool. but outside it is less than a $1 U.S.

==> people at reception are not well trained, their information don't match from person to person.

I have been to Dominican Republic before. first time was so amazing at another resort, there was no availability there, else i wouldn't have to this location. [Details]

Stand alone restaurants are good, but very difficult to get reservations
Kid got sick. All the reviews that talk about hand and mouth disease are unfortunately true... From what i've seen its from sanitation with food handling.

Overall it's a beautiful resort, Service on the other hand is horrible. Servers are expecting you to tip them any moment you look at them, and whatever you give them is never enough. [Details]

Beautiful Property. Junior swim up suit is awesome. WIFI is the best i've ever seen at any resort period.

Buffet food was horrible. food isn't labelled properly. When you ask questions, well not many speak english and the ones that reply usually they don't actually understand what you're asking for... we were given lots of false info

Missing the past

We stayed here when it was IFA 7 years ago. Loved it. Went back. Totally disappointed. There was a sewer backup that smelled terrible and it was all around the lobby and in the Mexican restaurant. We were there for 4 days before we actually got a beach chair, twice, on the beach, despite a bunch reserved for the "Unique" which no one used. We never had one near the pool. All of the chairs were removed from the children's pool leaving parents to stand while their children played in the pool. Spent several days with the power going off and on. Several days without water off and on. It took a couple of days to get a beach towel. Little entertainment. In our room by 9:00 every night. I seen at least 4 people injured by slipping on wet marble. When it was smaller staff always cleaned and removed hazards.The mirrors in the elevators had the same mess, which looked like sneezes, on them the full 7 days we were there. There were 2 elevators close to our room, which, until the 6th day, only one worked. Check in was slow. Slow line, in the sewer smell to ask any question/request from the reception. Offered change, but never had change.Although it took us a year to save to come back, based on our past experience, I looked out of the bus window and wished for a lottery win to bring all of my children and grandchildren. The water slide park,, the archade, the beach, melted my heart wishing everyone could see this was changed as it took forever to check in, smelling sewer waste, gross elevators. Imagine your 5 year old grandchild touching that to show you something. Then, the little ones can't be long at the pool because it is hot and there is no where to sit. Can't sit at the beach or other pools either because there are no chairs. I feel really bad because I am not a negative person. I don't bad mouth people or businesses. But you went too big, too fast and did not consider your staff or your customers. Please think about the fact that without staff and customers, it doesn't matter who or what you are, you can't succeed. You might be busy until the word gets around, but eventually there is no one. Oh yeah and every shower leaks all over the floor. We were three different couples in three different rooms, all the same. [Details]

Although the grounds, the buildings and the beach are beautiful, I cannot recommend this resort. There are nowhere near enough chairs on the beach to accommodate the guests and there were daily arguments that necessitated the intervention of security to resolve. When we spoke of this to employees, they repeatedly stated that "we are working on it" and "we did not expect to ever have this many people here". The washrooms, although constantly being cleaned, were not in a state of good repair and on two days of our stay, the main restaurant washrooms were completely closed. The other washrooms had several stalls out of use each day. We were there for four days before the taps in the main beach/pool washroom were repaired so that they did not topple over when we tried to use them. There is an odour in the rooms that does not go away. The air conditioning and ventilation turn off when you leave the room resulting in towels that remain constantly damp. The cleaning staff work hard but do not report room problems to management resulting in equipment being in a state of disrepair. When you report it to the management, you are told that they will "get right on it" but repairs are not done. When you leave your towels on the floor so that you will be given new, dry ones, the towels are removed but no new towels are left. Training is required for cleaning and maintenance staff. [Details]

A Beautiful Unfinished Gem

We arrived on Dec 2nd and were quickly registered at the Unique Club desk. The staff were not only polite and professional but you could hear the pride they had at working for such a modern resort. A bell hop escorted us to our room and to be honest we were a little put off by how large the resort is. The room however was fantastic. Only a hundred yards from the beach and our own little slice of heaven "the Unique Club". Overall this is an excellent resort with amongst the best staff I have met at any resort. [Details]
