Serenade Stay

, London, ON
2024-04-19
Overall, we had a great time at Serenade.

The staff were all exceptionally friendly and helpful - when we had an issue with our door, we caught one of the hospitality staff in the hallway who immediately dropped what he was doing to find a maintenance staff member who arrived in minutes to work on the issue (our door was not locking and when we tried to pull it to engage the lock, the handle popped out - the maintenance staffer replaced the handle and it worked at the time, but the lock stopped working again later. This was towards the end of the trip and we never felt unsafe based on our room location, so we didn't push the issue, but something to pay attention to if you decide to visit - we'd still go back!)

The food was generally good - lots of options at the buffet and the a la cartes we tried were mostly good. The teppanyaki grill had delicious food but not too much of the 'show' you might expect from this experience. The Italian was very tasty, and the Japanese concept was ok. The Mediterranean was entirely skippable - do not recommend! They release a la carte reservations 3 days in advance through their app, so you can't really get into one until close to the middle of your trip as everything is booked ahead which was disappointing.

Like many resorts, pool/beach chairs go quickly and you have to be up and out early to snag the best spots with umbrellas. We preferred the back pool away from the waterslides as we didn't travel with children, though families were spending time all over and travelling between both pools and the sea easily. Not too much poolside selling (the occasional pitch for the spa or excursions, about 1-2/day), and easy access to the swim-up bar.

We spent one day at the beach and the resort had security patrolling to ensure the salespeople respected guest boundaries, which was really great.

The entertainment had a lot of room for improvement - the in-house team worked really hard, but it was clear there was a gap in skills and investment into the costumes/tech. They brought in an outside team of circus-type performers one night who were incredible. The shows happen inside an auditorium and there were always plenty of seats so you didn't need to go early to get a spot like at some other resorts.

The resort is smoker-friendly, but we didn't find it too bad as non-smokers.

The cocktails were hit or miss - many of them weirdly contained milk which washed out the flavour of any of the fruits or liquors. They were also made differently depending on which bar/server was preparing them. The lobby bar staff were incredibly sweet and remembered us throughout the week as we'd spend time there before/after dinner most evenings.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay. [Details]

Serenade Preferred ( family side) with no children

, Welland, ON
2024-04-09
Would never have booked had I know it was going to be screaming kids everywhere. Thank god we had Preferred so we did everything on adult side. Staff need to be trained in hospitality. Friendlier on adult side. Drinks hit and miss! Was often given drinks without premium liquor even when I asked for it. Whoever was above us kept us up with noise of scraping chairs and running around sometimes until 3am. We were in building 4, 3rd floor. Beach sucked!! Got bit by bugs and water sucked so only spent one day on beach. We did find quiet pool and stayed there for rest of trip. Overpaid for 3 star quality. [Details]

The strong points
If you have no kids and have Preferred you have no reason to be on family side other than sleep!
The weak points
Booked family side because so confusing while booking. Language barriers. Unfriendly staff on family side. Served raw and cold food multiple times. Beach water sucks! No wash clothes for 10 day stay. Got Covid while there.
Sanitary measures
Got Covid while there! Husband was sick whole trip almost. Need more garbage cans in room and wash clothes I never seen in all 10 days! Pool towels were hard to get sometimes. Had Preferred and yet didn't feel like it.

Accessibility at the beech and Customer service ma

, Hawkesbury, ON
2024-02-11
I have to say the resort is one if the most wheelchair friendly resorts, as it is easy to roll on and very smooth. But... when you arrive to the beech, and you are booking this to be able to go to the beech, it is NOT accessible in any way. When you try to bring this up with the customer service MANAGER (Stephanie), she blatantly tells you she has no care for you or does she intend to do anything about it, now or in the future. Quote " we do not do this here and it is not a priority, nor will it be" ..... O...K....
So I found a company, randomly, on Google that rents out scooters and beach chairs ! So we ordered a beech chair, out of pocket, and was able to access the beech this way. www.scootersdr.com, on time and efficient :)
In the 7 days we were there, there were also 3 other wheelchair users at the resort that could of benefited from this, not including all the other people that are not in wheelchairs that may have difficulty walking... but hey, it's not a priority, for the thousands of dollars we pay to get there. The strong points
Strong points: gorgeous beach and pools, beautiful water and weather, not too humid. Swim out from room is lovely. Everything on resort is a short walk. Lovely lively atmosphere. But you have to get up at 7am for pool chair, 8:30 for beach chair.
The weak points
Food, especially buffet, is really lacking. Bring Imodium. Specially restaurants try but all taste alike. 2/5. Only online menus. Shower leaked, drip from bathroom ceiling, room not always cleaned fully, drinks are very weak and so sugary. No deadbolt.
Sanitary measures
Shower leaked, did not drain properly. Leak from bathroom ceiling, no lock on bathroom or shower door, which do not fully close. Room not always fully cleaned, although we were extremely tidy and left little mess each day. No deadbolt on door,

Very satisfied

I would like to say this resort met and exceeded our expectations. From cleanliness to our room selection. The meals we had wether it was the buffet, a la carte, snack bars or food truck was excellent. The resort is east to navigate and an easy walk for all ages and challenges. Yes there is elevators in the room blocks and main lobby. I was mostly impressed by the staff always mopping the pool deck and picking up empty glasses and garbage. We were very hard pressed to see any clutter anywhere. There is activity's at the main pool all day long with pauses in between activities. Staff is very good to encourage you to engage in activities. This resort is a definite return for me. [Details]

The weak points
On the down side I found sometimes a challenge with the language barrier, but keep in mind this is a Spanish speaking country. I also found at the pool bars the Spanish speaking guests were served priority over the English speaking people.

Resort: the place is really nice. The gym is well equipped and my room was clean when I first arrived. If you request room service, they'll clean it very well.
Food: the variety of food was good, but from Monday to Friday I saw the same menu. I only had breakfast and lunch. Same menu. They could at least change it after 3 days.
Staff: in general, the staff is very nice. One particular person made a weird comment. I was just relaxing and this man started talking to me. He asked me if I wasn't afraid of ‘being stolen'. I said no because I am very attentive and since I was inside the resort, I didn't think someone would rob me. He then said: not someone stealing your stuff, but what if someone ‘stole you'? (I understood as kidnapping me). Well, this was a weird comment. He also said something about not letting me return to Canada. I travelled to relax, and this man had the audacity to say that he wanted to ‘kidnap me'. There is more to this conversation, but this is the summary of what happened. [Details]

Wonderful stuff! Questionable management!!

, Berwick, NS

Over all it is a lovely family location.
14 days was to long.
We had issues with the main check-in / sitting area. There are 5 huge fans that the management would never turn on. We asked politely every day around 6pm before supper.
(It's a huge sitting area outside of the restaurants with a Bar & Coffee bar)
It was open air area on both ends but most nights there would be no wind and it was hot & muggy.

The office staff would outright refuse to turn on the fans, you would need to be very firm with them to get it escalated to upper management. That worked sometimes.

I'd be in a puddle of sweet, using a face cloth lol remember it was snowing not many weeks before we left home and much colder.

Why would they install fans if not to use them!!
I would go to other areas of the complex, fans would be pounding away with not one person around.

The only common sense answer I could come up with was that it was more comfortable for the management staff not to have the fans on!

I liked the service staff very much, we had lots of tip money to show appreciation. [Details]

Management need to improve, I don't know if there deciding things or if the bosses in Spain are setting simple rules. Like giving a customer a hard time over tuning on huge cieling fan's when water is falling off the customers face.

7 day stay at serenade

Overall stay was good, kids had fun, food was above average and the beach was very nice. Service was slow and lacking at at times especially when it comes to room service and restaurants. Also the restaurant reservation was not easy to manage, you have to go at 7am to book for earlier seatings even though they say reservations start at 8amb and you can only reserve 3 days in advance. Maintenance of the property could be better, small things like towel bar in room was broken and the foot faucet by the beach wasn't working properly. [Details]

Punta Cana - Spring 2023

We had a very nice, relaxing vacation for 10 days. Staff at the hotel were wonderful. Always someone available to help when needed. Food was good at the buffet and Ala Carte Restaurants. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Had to ask for a blanket because there was not one in the room. The beach did have seaweed but they worked hard every day to clean up the beach as much as possible. We did not feel like anyone was trying to sell us excursions or merchandise all of the time. Yes they were there but not intrusive. An App to book services like restaurant reservations or spa visits would be so helpful, We were in the Priority Club so we had our own concierge to book restaurants for us but everyone else had to stand in line every morning to book their reservations for the Ala Carte restaurants. There is currently contruction happening on this proerty to build a whole new Adults Only Resorts area and a new waterpark. Overall we had a wonerful stay and we will return when the new Adults Only area is open. [Details]

Beautiful grounds, food was good, rooms were clean and the staff was great.
The weak points
Not enough chairs and umbrellas around the main pool areas. The see through panels into the bathrooms need to go. Having to line up to book restaurants is a pain. They need an app with menus and the ability to make restaurant reservations.

Awesome vacation at a new resort. Very clean, friendly staff, good amenities, perfect for families. If you want to party into the night, this is NOT the place.

We were very surprised at how good the food was. Buffalo chicken wings at the sports bar, the donut station at the breakfast buffet, the guac, salsa, cheese and nacho at the Mexican buffet all must dos.

Super close to the airport and literally right next door to the dolphin experience.

Ms Minerva at the kids club is amazing. You can tell she loves her job.

10/10 would recommend for families. Parents could hang at one of the pools (with a swim up bar) and have eyes on the kids section and water slides. [Details]

Beautiful Property and Facilities- Lacking service

, Vineland, ON
2023-01-30
Our stay was good, it is not a 5 star property as indicated in the advertisements, overall staff were friendly and helpful, service levels were not up to expectations, buffet was generally good, Sports Bar food was generally good.
Vacation club sales agents were normally
agressive until a conversation was undertaken with thier manager, then the constant barrage at breakfast stopped. Ownership was on property while we stayed, Food Service Manager- went above and beyond to rectify issues and welcomed input.
Language is a barrier if you only speak English, even with managers the issues were not understood or rectified unless you took the time to use a translator app. Some very exceptional staff and some less than exceptional staff. This resort is perhaps a 3- 3.5 star service level, but could be extraordinary if training occured. Beach is nice and swimming is possible with generally sandy bottom within swimming area. Large quantities of children and infants were present during our stay- this is a family resort for sure- Pools were nice and clean.Alcohol was very low level quality brands, and bartending staff at most bars outside of main lobby bar don't have a vast repitoire of drinks. This resort was alright. We've been to the Dominican 6 times.... I wouldn't go back to this resort..
The entertainment lacked soooo much.
There's absolutely nothing that goes on all day!. Other the aqua fitness which lasted about 5 minutes and that was it!!!!.
When you're at the beach or even by the pool no one's walking around and getting drink orders. You had to physically go and get your self one every single time!. So being at the beach and needed to always go back towards the hotel was terrible..
The food was okay. Nothing crazy (and we arent picky eaters at all). You need to bring your phone everywhere with you so you can scan there menus at the bar and restaurants.
The only positive thing I have to say about this place is it was clean.. thats about it. [Details]
