Krystal Grand Nuevo Vallarta
We booked the hotel because of 4 star rating. It is not!! Check in was very unfriendly, no information about hotel, restaurants, Wifi etc. We got a room in an older building, a very small room, no chair or room to put suitcase, looking out to a pathway on outside of hotel. Front desk offered to upgrade us for 80 US $ / per day to a better room. After much discussion, they moved us (without additional cost) to a Junior suite, which was slightly better, but still is a basic very dated Motel room, in need of renovations, definitely not a 4 star accommodation, which we booked and paid for. They have one Buffet restaurant. Their 3 additional restaurants are by reservation only. You have to use their app to make reservations, unless you are a ‘higher level' guest, then you have ‘first rights' and the Concierge is making your reservations. The leftover seats can be booked through their app and unless you get up at 4am in the morning you have no chance. The Lobby Bar has almost no chairs and tables to sit in the evening, one bar keeper. The Sky Bar on floor 10, the same, no chairs or tables to sit and it's Smokers Meeting Point. Hotel advertises smoke free premises. Very disappointing that people are able to put down towel on beach chairs before they go to bed… no chance if you like to sleep in, and they never even sit in that chair. In 11 days, the Staff removed the towels only once. All the front line workers were great and the Buffet food was good, lots of options and variations. We will not recommend that hotel, there are lots of better options.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
We visited Paradise Village in February of 2026. Myself and my wife arrived with 3 friends and then 6 more of our group joined us a few days later with the original 3 leaving after a one week stay. Myself and my wife stayed there for two weeks.   Check in was OK but slow. We were told that we were in Tonina tower and the person at check in pointed to the door we came in. Asked the bellhop and he told us it was "By the entrance" so we started walking that way in the dark. After asking a couple of guests we were able to find the building and our rooms. Not really a great start.   We had specified a room with a King bed but arrived to two double beds. I went back to check in and was told there were no Kings available until Friday (this was Tuesday) and then there was only one so our friends would have to live with 2 doubles. We had them move the beds together the next day which was OK. The next day I asked our travel agent to confirm that she had requested our bed choices and she showed me the email where it was requested and that the request had been confirmed.   The food is excellent. It's a shame that they limit you to two A La Carte restaurants per week of stay on the All Inclusive plan but the food and service at those meals is top notch. Buffet is normal buffet food with a good selection and convenient hours. If you're at the pool or on the beach you don't have the option to grab a snack from a self-serve buffet as I have found at most All Inclusive resorts, instead you can order anything from a burger, salad, fruit platter, sushi rolls or a pizza and they bring it to you. The food is great and usually quick although we had times we waited over 45 minutes for our food but it leads to a lot of waste because if you want a slice or two of pizza you need to order a whole pizza.   We did have an issue with service in the Sky Bar. We had used one of our reservations for an A La Carte here the day after we arrived. It's kind of a strange system to use a reservation. When you arrive and check in you get one sheet of paper for each reservation that you are entitled to. You then take that to a reservation desk where they staple a small piece of paper to it showing the time to arrive. You must bring this to your meal or else you need to go back to your room and get it. I have no idea why they wouldn't just use the computer reservation system and forget about the hassle of the paper because when you go for your meal they know you are coming, how many are in your group and all the details but without the paper they don't let you in. We found this out the hard way.   We had a great meal and our server was really good. The Sky Bar is the only place on the whole resort where you can get a drink after 10:30 so our booking was for a birthday celebration and we wanted to stay and party after dinner. The food and service was fantastic and after we ate we moved to some of the couches which are very comfy. At a bit before 10:30 the server came to us and said she wanted to go home and asked if we could settle the bill which just meant we needed to sign off on it so we did. About 15 minutes later 3 of us wanted some water and no waiter was coming around so I went to the bar and asked for 3 waters. I was told somebody would bring it out. I watched the bartender and he just kept cleaning up the bar and never called anybody to deliver our water. After about 15 minutes I went up and asked again, then he motioned to a waiter who came over and told me that our All Inclusive reservation ended at 10:30 and that we couldn't order drinks any longer. When I protested that it was just water he said he could get us "house water" (Tap water I assume) but not bottles water so that's what we got.   There were about 7 staff standing around like they were waiting for us to go home but then a group of 5 ladies came in and started dancing and drinking. They were a lot of fun and they were getting drinks served to them even though we weren't. We talked to them and they told us they were Time-Share Owners in the resort and it was their last night so they were having a party. At one point they tried ordering a round of shooters for them and some for our group as well. They would not deliver the drinks to us so the girls gave us their drinks and then they ordered more for themselves. I'm really having trouble with the logic of this whole system, they would sell them drinks but not us because we are on the All Inclusive plan? No, we were not drunk.   The next night we decided that we were going to go up to the Sky Bar again because they had been playing good music videos the night before but not for supper but just to go after the meal time was done. We knew we would not be able to order drinks after 10:30 so we went up about 9:30. There was hardly anybody in there so we sat down and a waiter came over and told us that they would not serve us because we didn't have a reservation and we told them we didn't want food and only to have a drink. Nope, no reservation, no service. WTH??   If your group likes to play cards in the evening as we do then you can do that in the lobby as there are plenty of tables. We did this several nights and the service ranged from excellent to horrible. But be aware, at 11:00pm the lights go off and it's hard playing cards in the dark.   We spent most days on the beach and the service really varied. Getting the attention of a waiter can be difficult as they each have their own section and can't serve in a different area. We did find a couple of great waiters, Rogelio and Gabriel, so we always tried to get a table in their area. Everybody else and service will be hit and miss. On a side note we aren't cheap on the tipping so that wasn't the problem. Clearly they are sharing all the tips so it doesn't really give them any incentive To Insure Prompt Service (TIPS).   If you decide to go and get your own drink they have a rule where if you walk up to the bar for a drink the bartender will ignore you and motion to a server who will come up and take your order and tell you he will bring it to you at your table which can take 5 to 30 minutes. A couple of times I just said "No, I'll wait here for it" and they did give it to me.   There are a lot of sellers on the beach but they're not pushy at all and they come around often like they actually work for the resort although I don't think that they do. There is also full food service on the beach which is great. There is also service at the pools. You need to get out of the pool to eat (understandable) and you can't have a drink in the pool, even in a sealed mug they will make you set it on shore (unless you're a time-share owner then they don't care if you have a drink in the pool)   We missed out on room cleaning a couple of days. No reason why but I called the front and they said they would send someone but never did. Also, most rooms don't have one of those signs you have on your door knob requesting privacy or service which I found kind of strange. You think that would make the cleaner's job so much easier. Staying here was OK but I will never be back. Not just the poor service at times but all the stupid rules that you need to follow. If you own a time share here maybe your experience will be different but I can't recommend this for an All Inclusive package.

Fantastic
This trip was beyond our expectations. The staff were all excellent. Our room view was really pretty. We had upgraded to preferred and were glad that we did. The food was excellent everywhere we ate (Olio, Bordeaux, Portofino, Mezze). We had Oscar on his first night at Mezze and he was very sweet. The short rib was so great I ordered it twice and my hubby loved the mushroom ravioli at Portofino. Plus the snacks and lunch at Preferred Club, room service and poutine were awesome. Breakfast at Preferred Club was great every day. We honestly can't say anything negative about this resort. The beach, although not swimmable for beginners which we knew in advance (cool to watch the surfers) was super lovely to walk along both directions. Shout out to Danny the Pool Concierge who was super sweet and knowledgeable and all of the staff up there on the Rooftop; Dario and Julio! The pools and warm tubs on the Rooftop Preferred Club were a great place to hang out all day. We also enjoyed the music and shade in the afternoon down at the Barracuda Bar. At the Secrets Lobby Bar, Alex, Gabriella and the whole team were awesome! You can tell everyone here takes great pride in their jobs. Elizabeth our butler was helpful. We needed a couple things in our room and used the app….extremely responsive and helpful. We never felt the need to ‘save a lounger' or rush anywhere….it did not feel crowded at all and everyone had a smile on their face.
