My wife and I came back to Puerto Vallarta after 20 years. The overall services level has been stripped to the bone everywhere compared to 20 years ago, from the airport shuttle to the hotel. The hotel is at best 3 stars. If you expect to experience a luxury 4-5 stars hotel from the amenities to the room toiletry than this is not a hotel for you. 4.5 star hotel has no body lotions in the rooms, and the shampoo and the body wash gel in the room dispensers are of poor quality. We had to go in nearby mall to buy the toiletries. The room we stayed in was nice and clean with comfortable bed. The lady who clean our room did a very good job. We were leaving tip for a room service staff every morning. Food is average, but you are not going to be hungry. Special thanks to the lady who was making a great omelet. If you go later to eat, the food is usually cold. The beach is nice, but the ocean for the most part is not swimmable due to continuous waves. We enjoyed long walks along the beach though. Pool is fairly small and chairs are taken quite early. The staff is polite except for the lobby bar. During daytime they do not come to take orders at all. We did not let little things to bother us, after all we enjoyed our trip to Puerto Vallarta. [Details]

This hotel was great. Rooms are just as the picture shows and the beds are comfortable. I was with a group of 26 and they made it super easy to have breakfast and lunch together and that was a must as other hotels have not made it so effortless. The hotel is laid out really well that we just ran into our friends and family without having to search. Great restaurants up the road from the hotel as well if you want to get away. We love adventure and it was way cheaper on this side than the cancun side to do fun out of hotel trips. This hotel didn't have a nightclub but for us we didn't mind at all. Definitely take a boat ride to Yelapa if you want an incredible view. We got to see dolphins and whales only 30 feet from the boat. Incredible Beach ! [Details]

We had an amazing stay here. Our first couple of days were relaxing. The staff right from check in and in every other area were welcoming and very helpful. Our room was clean as was the rest of the resort. Food was very good. On day 3 I had an accident and broke my foot. I can not even begin to tell you how kind and accommodating everyone at this resort was. They went the extra mile. Providing transportation, asking how I was doing and just being extremely kind. We hope to come back and do what we couldn't this trip. [Details]

The hotel's location is excellent, with a beach better than any other in Puerto Vallarta or Nuevo Nayarit. The food was also great, with Olivos, the Italian restaurant being the best. The buffet was also pretty good. The lobby bar was airy with 8 big tv's. Most nights, there was live music. However, there is no disco and no live music after 10 pm or so. This not a place for younger people to party all night long. The only problem with this hotel is that a lot of things in the rooms didn't work, such as AC, phone, tv, etc. I spent significant time getting these things fixed, and moved to another room because the AC didn't work well enough in my first room. This hotel should check each room to ensure everything works before the guest enters the room, but they do not. They simply wait for guests to complain about the room, and then they tell you to stay in your room, until the the issue is resolved. [Details]

It's a nice resort, with 2 pools and 4 restaurants. There is another pool and a restaurant in the resort but that's only accessible if you are a Royal club member. We loved the food in all 4 restaurants available to us. Foods are not authentic Mexican and very much catered to North American tourists. Make sure to make a reservation at the desk beside the reception, as soon as you get there, because they fill up really fast. The food in the buffet was also really good, good variety and quality. We did however miss mango. There was mango available only one day out of the 7 days. Later we found vendors on the beach, selling mangoes and coconuts, so all good.
I loved the resort in general, and a great place of you are not planning to do a lot of excursions. However, we found that it's so far from the city and all the other places we wanted to visit. Even though, the excursions we bought at the hotel were catered to my toddler, we found that we spend most of the time on the tour bus vs actually doing any activities. We couldn't explore a lot of beaches or even the city as part of the tours. Overall I find the location of this resort is far from everything. Next time we visit Puerto Vallarta, we would love to stay in the city instead of the resort area. The staffs are also very friendly, and very hard working. The premise is very clean. [Details]

Our first encounter with the front desk workers at Occidental was an unpleasant one starting with the room they gave us. We were supposed to get a Deluxe room with ocean view. They gave us #554 that communicated with another space (Not even locked) and the bathroom was only approximately cleaned and the sink was plagued. We went and complained with the reception personal and they gave us a gentleman to show other three options. Finally we ended up in the room #335. We decided to settle there because we were tired and had no choice. We recommend you check if we got what we paid for. The shower doors not sealed, the floor flooded after the first use. We had to use towels to absorb the water leaked through the doors. [Details]

We paid for ocean-view room. The room had pool view and all building baffles blocking the ocean view. We made request for changes, but were told this is their ocean view. It did not seem like a holiday at all. Pools close at 7.30 pm. Buffet closes at 10 pm. There is no food allowed in the room. My cousin got extremely sick with diarrhea and vomiting after the food. And still had to literally beg for toast for her to be taken to the room. You have to ask 15 times literally to get a bottle of water even in the scorching heat. Overall experience was not very pleasant for the money we paid for the trip. [Details]

We stayed at this hotel for the first time since there renovations and found it to be delightful. It was very clean, had good food, and exceptional staff. Nice beach and pool area, the food was very good with lots of selection . Mini bar stocked daily with soft drinks, beer, and snacks. It is very accessible, only about ten minutes from the airport. One draw back was the charge for internet $12 u.s daily [Details]

The hotel was nice and very clean. The hotel was in a great location with a small mall near by. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food in the 3 different restaurants was excellent. The buffet food was average. I did not like having to pay for WiFi. The charge was $45 US per 2 user for 7 days. A 4 star hotel should provide this service for the guests for free. It would be nice if the hotel provided a free taxi or shuttle service to the adventure companies near the hotel. I enjoyed my time at the hotel. [Details]

I've gone through some of the reviews of this resort on this site and they are outdated. Wifi cost but it is good. Rooms are great. Beach is great. Plenty of shade. Front desk attendants are fast, informative, not over the top friendly but get your to your room fast and the services explained well. Servers go out of their way. Bartenders know your drink and have it ready before you sit down. Rooms are clean and updated. I'd go to this resort every year until I die. Love it. Food alone is worth the trip [Details]

With 7 people/3 rooms, this was a nice size/manageable property. Large, clean rooms - no balconies. Smaller buffet than I am used to but always a good variety of food. Friendly, efficient service. Huge beach and it goes on for miles! Small shopping centre across the street with McDonald's and Starbucks should you feel a craving! Very quiet in the evenings with no disco. Nice Gym. Minibar was not stocked on arrival and was only refilled once-managed but wasn't expected. The internet connection was terrible and I probably wouldn't stay again based on that factor alone (some of us still need to work while traveling). Overall a good value and pleasant stay! [Details]
