Had a great two weeks and then - it was over. Was waiting for our airport transportation after checking out when a front desk employee approached us in the driveway to tell us our smoke detector (hard wired on the 10ft high ceiling) had been broken (by us!) and we would not be able to leave until it was paid for. Employee shows me a picture on his cell phone of a smoke detector with the small plastic piece missing from in front of sensor. I actually could see nothing wrong, my husband is an HVAC guy and is always looking at ceilings and roofs so he knew what he was looking at but it was absolutely nothing that we had done (if it was in fact a picture from our room?) Luckily, I had just read another online review a few nights before encapsulating essentially the same thing where a family indeed paid for bogus damage found in their room upon checking out but *just* before their air transportation was scheduled to arrive. Rooms are cleaned daily - I would think that “damage” would be noted as it happens, not five minutes before you leave the property. They also said that the smoke detectors would send notifications that they are offline as soon as something is wrong with them but no one seemed to be able to tell us when that actually happened...if it actually happened...because it didn't happen! My anger went from 0 - 100 in a flash! I 100% accused them of pulling this moronic shakedown on a regular basis because the similarities between the two occurrences was so obvious! Meanwhile, our shuttle had arrived and I'm sure our loud and angry voices were not what they had expected so we were not prevented from leaving and we paid for no bogus damage. Another similarity between our experience and the one I'd read online - neither of us would attend their timeshare spiels. Perhaps that's just a coincidence as I'm not sure what their intended target criteria actually is but I'll be making sure not only to never go back to the ÓLEO but also any hotel affiliated with this hotel group.
