Not worth the money

Less than impressed with this resort. Most of the staff did not speak an ounce of English. The front desk, serving staff, main bar and beach staff were useless. The only decent staff we encountered was the pool bar, and in the front lobby entrance. We always waited a ridiculous amount of time for drinks at the main and beach bar, even with staff and no other customers. Housekeeping staff were friendly , but we didn't receive service at all one day and had to call down for fresh towels and water after a full day excursion. [Details]

The strong points
The wifi was decent throughout the resort. The 1 a la carte was delicious. Breakfast at the buffet was always great but other meals were hit and miss. Much of the same items each day. Pools were great, always clean and lots of seats. Beach is clean.
The weak points
Non English speaking staff Buffet was mediocre Only 1 a la carte Bars and restaurant closes at 11 No evening entertainment Wait times for drinks excessive

Worst resort I have ever stayed at.

This resort was by far the worst resort I have ever stayed at and I'm not even sure how it can be given a 4-5 star rating. The room we stayed in was extremely dated and many guests told us they had the same type of room. Do not believe the photos you see if the nice updated rooms that is a very small percentage of the resort. Our bath tub would fill up at least 6 inches while you took a shower, bringing up old hair and whatever else from past users. The tv didn't work in our room, there was a plug that wasn't even in the wall properly and was a huge fire hazard. There is only 1 restaurant and 1 bar (again, not what is advertised). Everything closes at 11 so there is nothing to do. Zero entertainment. No live music, no plays, nothing. [Details]

The beach here was Beautiful , there is a lot of Day beds and Palapas on the beach , And you didn't have to be there early to get one. Angel was our beach server and he was great, he took the time to talk to us and remembered our drink preference . We spent 1 day at the pool and it was nice , they play music during the day and play a few games. I have never seen a Hotel so clean they work very hard and it shows. All the staff are friendly and always acknowledge you as you walk by. We were not in a renovated room but still found it to be good. The only complaint would be that the bed is hard (springy ) so hopefully when they renovate they change out the beds. I am a picky eater and had no problem finding tasty food. If this hotel had additional restaurants it could be a 4 .

My vacation in Emporio

I was a bit frustrated that people at front desk almost did not speak English. Despite having my passport, a clerk wrote my last name incorrectly (completely!!) - and said that this was OK and I should use this broken name for my internet login. A room was flooded - and a toilet did not flushed. Good thing was that a manager immediately upgraded a room for no charge; downside was that we left our kid's new running shoes in the old room. When we realized it - shoes were gone (a lady in lost & find explained that since it passed more than 1-2 days "girls may take it"). I felt sorry- it was expensive and new. Room cleaning service was good; however, they may come at any time (once we refuse to have it done since it was 8 p.m. - time for a kid to sleep). Menu in a restaurant was not large but we could always choose something that liked. Frequently, we saw a waiter only when it was time to sign a bill. There was no many activities - but it worked for us (would recommend for vacation with small kids). [Details]

The weak points
Experience with 1st room (flooded with no working toilet). Very poor experience with Lost and Find. Not many staff know English that was expected at people working in a resort.

Overall great value for the dollar. Accommodations far exceeded our expectations for the price. Food at the buffet was by far the best we have had at any other place in Mexico. The Italian restaurant was excellent. Great food and service! The pool and grounds were well cared for and all the staff were very friendly. The only negative was lack of things to do after diner. No evening entertainment, so you either sat at the bar and drank or go back to your room. Only English channels on the TV was CNN, so no entertainment there. would recommend this resort to those looking for a quirt, relaxing vacation. [Details]

The strong points
Friendly staff, very good choices of food in the buffet. The Italian restaurant was excellent, offering a great choice of food along with great service.
The weak points
Lack of things to do in the evening after diner, other than sit at the bar and drink.
