Overall it is a decent resort. It is not for those looking for a party or entertainment. People are up reserving their spots at about 6am ... best spots all taken (not complaining, just letting you know). The entertainment team including Carlos, Viri and Tristan were amazing but not much they can do with a crowd that just isn't into it. The pool workouts were great! The atmosphere of the resort is just that of relaxation which is GREAT if that is what you are looking for. [Details]

Everything about our stay at the Royal Hideaway was great and exceeded our expectations. It is a smaller resort that is perfect for a relaxing vacation. The staff we interacted with were extremely friendly and hardworking. I have never been to a resort where the bathrooms were immaculately clean all the time, even the one by the pool that people entered dripping wet. The hostesses at The Grill and Spices for breakfast and lunch were so lovely, thanks to Tania, Elena and Monica. The dinner restaurants had exceptional food and service. Most people we met there were returning customers, one couple had come every year for 16 years and I can see why. We will definitely return. [Details]

We just recently retired and were looking for the complete adult only luxury resort with quality beach amenities, services, and luxurious grounds and facilities.
We were not disappointed in any aspect. The beach was amazing, large with great surf, great chairs with canopies,and the refreshment service.
The rooms were well appointed with a very comfortable kingsize bed, and nice bathroom.
The restaurants were better than we anticipated. Tremendous menus, with very attentive professional service. Ensure your reservation is made for dinner so you are not disappointed.
The best part of the hotel experience was the staffs genuine willingness to service and accommodate your every wish. You were always welcomed and greeted with a warm enthusiasm. It was an amazing stay. The best way to celebrate the beginning of the next stage of our life. [Details]

This resort hotel was amazing. Service was excellent, food was some of the best quality we have had away. We have been going to all inclusive for almost 25 years and we would definetly recommend this one. The price is up there, but really worth the money. Room service, no wristbands, unlimited top self liquor, great beer, your own concierge in your villa. Its a very quit resort no disco which made it very relaxing and got lots of needed sleep. No loud music during the day, so lots of reading and naps if needed. Spa was very nice, ala cart meals. I booked ahead of arrival with the manger and had all dinners reserved. We were looking for a holiday with a great beach and great food. We not only got this but were amazed at the service we received. The staff bent over backwards to make sure their guests were happy. The only slight negative with the hotel was that we found the landscaping a bit old fashioned. The pros however more than made up for this. [Details]

This is a wonderful resort. The location of the resort is great being in the middle of the Riviera Maya making half-day excursions easy to arrange. The facilities, beach and staff are excellent and you will not be disappointed. Any of the reviewers that suggest a dirty beach or lack of attention to customer service would not be happy anywhere. This is one of the few resorts that have portable sun canopies which was great, even in the rain. Those little rabbit like guinea pig things are called Agoutis.
Live musicians throughout the resort were a really nice touch. Beach vendors were not a problem at all. Although the food is also excellent the fussiness can be a little overwhelming. My wife is a pickier eater than me, and while she always found something she liked, her choices were limited because there were no basic menu items. Sometimes a nice steak is all you want but all the a la cartes have menus that come across as pretentious or overly gourmet. There is no selection that doesn't come without little drips of coloured sauce and unidentifiable pieces of decorative vegetation. It tastes really good once you get served, but often you're not sure what you have ordered lol. The lunch choices on the Deck were exceptional. As many posters have said, reservations are a pain. Book all your suppers the day you arrive (or before) unless you like to eat at 9 pm. This is of course hard to do when you don't know what is on the menu in advance. Note to RH management – posting a copy of the menu outside each restaurant would be helpful. People who complained about waits at breakfast must have arrived late in the morning. We never had any wait at all and had our choice of table but we ate breakfast before 8:30 am.
It is well worth a walk into Playa del Carmen. It shouldn't take any more than 20 minutes along a nice treed sidewalk that passes beside some Mayan ruins. You're inside the gated secure area for almost the whole walk and safety is not an issue.
Men, there is a dress code for supper (like most AI resorts). Posters who say they didn't know did not read the brochures. That being said, it is not a tux and top hat, just long pants (not jeans) and a collared shirt. We did see a couple of men in jeans and t-shirts so the restaurants will probably let you in but frankly they looked kind of stupid. Ladies, it probably doesn't matter what you wear at supper as long as you're not in a bathing suit.
A warning for first time travelers using the Cancun airport. When you get your bags stare straight ahead and don't speak to anyone until you get outside the terminal. Do not let anyone inside the terminal take your bag or tell you they are from your resort/travel company. Travel companies are not allowed inside the terminal so don't believe anything these people say. [Details]

The most amazing resort we've ever visited. A totally relaxed atmosphere where you are treated like royalty every minute of every day.
Fine dining awaits you at the end of every day and would rival any high end restaurant in any major US or Canadian city. We will definitely return as it will be hard to find another resort that does 'everything' this well. [Details]

My spouse and I spent a glorious February week at the Royal Hideaway to relax and to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Did I say romantic? We honestly could not have chosen a better retreat. It was an oasis of peace in the midst of fairly busy Valentine's season. The amazing staff did all they could to accommodate us (for ex.) when we felt that the party noise at the neighbouring resort went late and after a few nights we asked to switch to a room on the other side of the resort: no problem (upon availability of course)
The Mexican people are genuinely beautiful and kind. We fell in love with them, the resort and the Maya. The grounds were like a lush earthly paradise and the beach was postcard perfect. Would return tomorrow!! Thank you RH for making our dream vacation come true. [Details]
