Dreams Review

My review of our visit - buckle up its detailed! We stayed Jan 21-28 Cancun airport is wild.. we spend over 2 hours waiting for our luggage so be prepared, that seems to be a regular thing We flew Air Canada Vacations, the bus Was great and there were drinks to purchase for the ride to the resort! Once at the resort, check in was easy and simple. Champagne and cookies greeted us when we arrived. We were a party of 12 ( 4 being kids ranging almost 3 to 9 years old) Our rooms were ready at arrival ( though we were late afternoon to the resort because of the airport) The rooms lack storage if you are more then 2 ppl, but that's ok. We made it work. We had room 2234, good sized balcony etc. ** tip hold the toilet button down hard to get it to flush properly, the plumbing a definitely sounded like it was struggling everytime you flushed** At some points outside or even in the shower it smelled musty or sulfer like but not always. Walk lightly , the tiles get slick when wet. We just laid towels out everywhere near the tub and shower to help. One day my youngest (7) and I went back to the room and he walked to the closet and fell hard and hit his head. We were confused where the water came from, realized the ceiling was leaking hard. Called maintenance, they were up right away, removed the tile and tons of water came out. Was an air conditioner issue. Fixed fast and the next day front desk called to check on us and my son to make sure everything was ok and if we needed anything. Our patio door didn't open one day either and it was fixed super fast. Maid service- everyday our room was cleaned up but only 2 times, did we have turn down service. We did tip everyday as well. I guess it's suppose to happen every night but only 2 times during our stay we got it. Not a huge deal for us, but it was noticed. The resort was small and easy to navigate. The activity pool was never super congested and was great for kids and adults. The infinity pool while SUCKED that it was now adults only, we did get to get in it without the kids a couple times and was also lovely. Service around the pool seemed better in the morning than the afternoon, (IMO) however the bars were 30 second walk in any direction. There are NOT enough chairs around the pools. The only way to get chairs is to go down super early and hold them. Everyone did this, it is just the way it goes there. Bali beds are pay for use, however we were never able to rent one as each day they were booked. Again not a huge deal. We were not preferred and the only thing I think we missed out on, was the option for a sit down breakfast. I think it's silly that you can't unless you are preferred, however the buffet was fine by us and wouldn't have been worth the $$ upgrade otherwise. Food- this is the big controversy it seems. Would I label this 5* resort. No. 3.5 would be my guess. The food was tolerable and everyone found something. Buffet - 6/10 we did this for breaky only and 1 dinner. Breakfast was fine, but if you were there within the first hour, hour and a half good luck getting hashbrowns, bacon or breakfast sausage. It was super inconsistent I thought, but we never left hungry. French- 10/10 best meal we had hands down! Steakhouse- lunch and dinner 6/10 food took too long, but we all had meals we enjoyed. Steak looked odd but one person in our party enjoyed the taste, my husband wasn't a fan. Ribs were yummy! Italian 6/10 better than the Buffett but not amazing. I would eat there again though! The soups were so yummy! Mexican- this one was a piss off TBH! It was a gong show from the time we arrived. However I won't go into all the silly deets as this is long enough anyways. The apps they brought out were yummy. But service was so incredibly slow, I am sure they actually forgot about our table, ppl came and left and we still were waiting on mains. I want to say it was 1h and 45 mins ish before the mains came out, after we questions them about it. Eventually I took my son and left and went to the buffet as he was sooooo hungry. 3 adults stayed and the other half of our party had already ate and left, they were at another table. Anyways rated 2/10 and only because the apps were yum! The decor in there was gorgeous though! Barefoot grill was great, the one day they had chicken wings… soooo good! Loved their fries We never did room service. The coco cafe… 8/10 great ice cream. Inconsistent again with the treats but that was no matter. Their pretzels and donuts were fabulous! Asian restaurant 8/10. We did not do the hibachi. The chicken fried rice and udon noodles so good! My son loved their raman, I did not. The spring rolls so good! I loved the fried ice cream also. The one hibachi show though did include my one son and tried to get him to catch the rice! Entertainment 7/10. Shows were good but they start late so with the littles it was hard to see them or stay for them. Kids club - our kiddos loved. They were lovely there! Our kids did some of the activities and cooking events. Arcade is in fact any age at this time, adult with them and sign in and out. Small space and loud but the kids loved it. We did not try oceana as we had a member in our party allergic to shellfish so we thought it best to avoid. The beach. The sand glorious, the seaweed was wild! We did see them cleaning it sometimes but at no point in our stay was it ever “ cleaned” . The shoreline always had a build up wall of it. But again, didn't bother us. We were all mainly at the pool anyways and understand that this is Mother Nature and it is what it is. We did an excursion through AMSTAR. We did the 4 Centoes tour. We had soooo much fun. The photos were reasonably priced as well! Highly recommend. We did not bring kids on that one. It was 4 of us, parents day out! My husband and I did the spa as well. We received deep tissue massages and did the hydro circuit. 9/10. So good. Anyway.. all in all, we won't be back because we want to try other resorts. But we would go back to this one in a heart beat if that was the option. We had a great time, loved almost everything. We would not have booked if the pool Rules had changed prior to us booking, but I'm glad we didn't cancel and change plans. The kiddy pool and slides were fun too. I won't lie, I went down the slides a few times and had a frigging blast. My son made friends with some of the kids around the resort and he's so sad that he won't see or talk to them again lol I think if you are looking for only the negative you will be super bummed out, but if you go with an open mind, you will not leave with a bad taste in your mouth! Vincent at the pool- super great as well as the fellow who had a breakfast drink cart by the pool in the morning, I Didn't get his name Cezar the entertainment manager, we met him once. He was a fabulous human. I wish I saw him again so I could find out how he went from a police offer in MooseJaw to the Entertainment Manager. Pls if you find out let me know! LOL He seemed like the kinda fellow who had great stories to share! Signed- a happy tourist. ** edit we only saw 2-3 weddings and non of them impacting our time, infact we never really noticed until evening IF we went down into those areas** Edit number 2 - just so much to think about, Mexican night, we did not participate, we actually couldn't even sort out how it worked. It looks so fun, but during the day when the were setting up, the wait staff were letting know we piled reserve tables $400 USD and to come talk to them specifically. We opted to not since we already paid so much for AI & did not think the kids would appreciate such an event at their age. But be prepared these conversations will come Up. Same with holding big tables at some restaurants, same comments $400 USD and you get lots of bottles etc. Again we already paid and will just order and drink what we want so we navigated just fine without the “extra fees” We were also only bothered 2 times by those pushing the vacation club breakfast, but they let up when we declined. Again all was fine [Details]

We liked our stay at Dreams Riviera Cancun

We liked the location, nice beach, you can walk around for many km.
The resort is well maintain, very clean, not large. Staff very nice, keep the resort clean and pleasant.
The room was nice, we stayed on top floor (5th floor) with ocean view from the distance, building one. The room is not renovated but really well maintained and clean and pleasant, with large shower and balcony.
The food was very good and safe, we like the French, Italian, Grill and Mexican. We liked that find guacamole almost everywhere.
There are no rocks in the water, but unfortunately the seaweed season started early this year. They are trying to clean the beach daily.
Overall a very good experience. [Details]

Great Experience

From the moment a Bellhop pulled my suitcase out of my airport shuttle until a Bellhop put my suitcase back into the shuttle I was so impressed with the Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort and their staff.
My visit was a little different from most people vacationing at an all inclusive resort. Following my wife's death I went on a vacation for the first time in 52 years without Vanessa.
It's a little daunting walking into a resort alone.
Many of the staff, after I explained to them why I was there alone, took me under their wing and made sure that I didn't feel “alone”.
There were so many staff who were outstanding in this regard that I can't name all of them. But VIP Services Victoria, and the Seaside Grill's server Abby and her manager really stood out.

Tipping will put smiles on the faces of staff and that definitely translates into better service with a big smile on their face. Remember salaries in these resorts are not what you would expect them to be.

All & all I would definitely recommend this resort and might someday return. [Details]

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa. We were very impressed with the resort itself - beautiful grounds, lobby, rooms.
The staff all over the resort provided excellent service.
The resort was kept impeccably clean - everywhere.
The pools were very nice.
The entertainment was pretty good.
The food was good - no complaints. [Details]

The strong points
The resort was extremely clean. The room was beautiful with a "tropical view" - very modern with nice tub, shower, amenities, very clean and a comfortable bed. Service was amazing - all over the resort. Pools - very nice
The weak points
Lots of seaweed on the beach and in the water. They did their absolute best daily/hourly to remove it with a tractor and with employees using rakes and wheelbarrows but they couldn't stay on top of it.

This resort is smaller and easy to get around. The lobby is very inviting and it's a 2 minute walk to the white sand beaches. The food is fantastic and there is lots of variety without needing to make reservations at any of the restaurants. The staff is very friendly and the resort is very clean. I highly recommend this place! [Details]

We had a wonderful time at this resort. It's beautiful and the very clean everywhere. Food was good. Not exceptional but still tasty. It was very windy when we were there so we didn't spend a lot of time on the beach. The pools were great. Loved that they were heated, could spend all day in them without getting cold. We had our 2 boys there and they enjoyed the pools and some of the activities. Lunch at the bbq grill by the pool was excellent....pizza, burgers, hot dogs and the best French fries. Lots of chips, salsa and guacamole...yum!!
Our only complaint is we had a room with a door going into the next room which made it very noisy when others were up partying on 2 different nights. Both times our boys woke up. It was pretty infuriating to deal with that in the middle of the night. The 2nd night it happened front desk answered the first time I called and the group quieted down immediately...that was nice. Overall we had a great time and the staff is great there. Willing to help you however they can. The last 3 nights of entertainment were great. The first few nights were kinda boring. Fire show and light show were my favorites! [Details]

The resort was really very nice. Staff were friendly and accomodating. Only 20 mins from the airport, so quick travel time. There is a dress code for a few restaurants, so pack appropriately. Even teh basic rooms are very nice. Resort is not too large, so easy to get from rooms to beach to restaurants. Nice beach! The spa is amazing.

Very nice hotel

, Aurora, ON
2013-05-08
This was my very first time in Mexico. I was there for a friend's destination wedding. I really enjoyed this destination in comparison to Cuba. Mexico was a whole lot nicer and friendlier.

As for this hotel, the location was great in comparison to the other Cancun hotels, it wasnt in a highly congested area like the other Cancun hotels are.

The no-wristband policy is very nice, unlike other resorts, you dont need to wear a wristband everyone is presumed to be a guest of the resort, so this was nice for a change.

The food was good, though not Gluten-free or gluten-friendly options for those with Celiac Disease or Wheat Allergies.

WIFI was Terrible, absolutely no solid connection. Intermittent connectivity problems.

Room service menu is not expansive and will take minimum 50-120 minutes for your room service to arrive.

Also, the tuck shop in the lobby is a big rip-off, they overcharge for everything (Things that are typically $2 at your local Walmart is literally $28 USD. There is no 24 hour bar service anywhere on the resort.

Bar service shuts down entirely at 1am and there is no more alcohol served anywhere on the entire resort after that time. [Details]

Dreams RC was a good option for our family though we would try another resort for our next visit to the Mayan Riviera. Rooms are clean, food is fairly good and resort staff work hard to make each client's experience a good one. We are picky travellers and our son is a picky eater. We are usually hit with some disappointment in the first hour of arriving. It was day seven and the only thing we could complain about was the bacon at breakfast. They have bacon but you have to ask the omelet cook for it. We never intended to use kids club but our son begged us to go. Resort and accommodations are 5 star. Food for an all inclusive trip was great alway something to eat. Those who complain of this resorts food are crazy! The service was great as well. The staff were always on the ball and would go out of their way to please. Around the pool and at the beach had service but my observation was people preferred to go up to the bars to get their drinks. Overall it was a great family vacation. The best to date! Will defiantly consider this resort for future trip. [Details]

If I was to describe this resort in one word, it would be, loud. I am not talking loud in a happy party, sort of way, rather, an obnoxious, screaming child, ill maintained machinery and paper thin walls way.

I got an e.coli infection from the food that has taken 5 days to clear. Just listening to other guests talking, I was not the only person to enjoy it.

Internet was outrageously expensive, $60USD for a week of low grade WI-FI. [Details]

The strong points
The best part of the resort is the staff excluding the front desk and the timeshare vultures.
The weak points
Food, sand fleas, mosquitos and a suck every penny you can from the tourista attitude from management.
