We had an exceptional experience. The weather was lovely, the restaurants were all that was promised, the staff were friendly and helpful, there were activities each night, and upkeep of the common areas was excellent. We saw animals we had not seen before, and tried new foods at the buffet which were delicious. The pools and beach were always clean, and there were lifeguards. [Details]

The strong points
The best part of the stay was the buffet. We enjoyed it more than the specialty restaurants. Buffet staff were always well dressed and very polite and cheerful. We also liked the gentle music that plays outdoors throughout the resort.
The weak points
Our room had some needed repairs. Also there were many agents upselling various activities, and photographers. A convenience store for aspirin and sunblock would be nice.
Sanitary measures
It seemed clean to us!

good choice of restaurants, Helpful staff, good quality food. We were there 1 week before christmas. The restaurants were not too crowded. Except for one meal at lunchtime at the Pez Vela, the wait never exceed 10 mins to be seated. Allocation of towels was confusing. We arrived late, and after our kids got in the pool we realise there are no pool towels being provided anymore. It was only 4.00PM. [Details]

The strong points
Large selection of restaurants, so good varied food for a 1 week stay. Helpful staff. Great to have available food at the coffee bar but wished it opened a bit earlier for days we go on trip. The ride to the beach is practical. Many activities for kids.
The weak points
Lunchtime options limited. Need to wait in line for Sakura reservation, then learn that no more place available. The pool is on the colder side. Only 1 water fountain in my building so you need to go the 1st floor for fresh water.

Manager attitude overshadowed the positives

, Edmonton, AB
2026-01-02
Our stay could have been very good — the staff were friendly, polite, hardworking, and professional, and it is a nice resort. Unfortunately, our experience was completely overshadowed by Mr Israel Mendoza, Guest Relations Manager. During our stay, a few minor room issues occurred, including mini-bar and cleanliness. More importantly, our child sustained an injury. Additionally, the buffet food was mislabeled, which I did not get a chance to raise due to the attitude of Mr Israel Mendoza. I asked to speak to a manager three days after these issues were not addressed. The way the guest relation manager, Mr Israel Mendoza, handled the situation was rude, dismissive, and accusatory from the start. He started by saying he was busy; I offered to come back at a more convenient time, but he ignored me. He repeatedly suggested I was dishonest, claimed I had a hidden agenda to seek compensation, and dismissed every concern I raised. He even told me, “this hotel isn't for you,” walked away, and left me standing. He behaved as if every concern I raised was about getting something for free, despite me clearly telling him that I was not seeking any compensation or complimentary services, and I had declined such offers made by the Guest Relations staff — such as free room service or late checkout — prior to speaking to Mr Israel Mendoza. By contrast, the rest of the staff, including the bellman who helped us find a taxi to the hospital, were polite, helpful, and professional. I cannot recommend this resort because if you have any issues, you may have to deal with someone like Mr Israel Mendoza, who treats guests disrespectfully and assumes any feedback is about compensation. Hopefully, other family resorts in Riviera Maya know how to treat guests respectfully and take concerns seriously. [Details]

The strong points
Friendly and helpful staff in general. Good resort for families.
The weak points
If you encounter issues or have any complaints, you may end up dealing with a manager who sees complaints only as attempts for financial gain, with no appreciation for constructive feedback or how it could be used to improve service.

This was our second time in Mexico, and we loved this resort!!! It was huge, very spaced out, the buffet had tons of options. You have to be extremely picky if you can find something to eat.. the pools were clean, the staff was very friendly. Our ceiling (room 1440) had a leak and they immediately moved us to a swim up room!! Amazing ! I would 10/10 go back to this resort or recommend it! [Details]

Info given at hotel when checking in could be improved. We arrived later in the evening so needed to check in quickly before the buffet closed. We were driven by a hotel worker on a golf cart the long route to our room…he quickly showed us where we could walk to get some late dinner.
Our room was on the fourth floor facing the Children's water slide play area…not the best location for someone celebrating their 80 th birthday. [Details]

The weak points
Too much noise from booming music and loud announcers. Ocean front area was limited with seaweed. Mattress was old and we tried to change rooms with no success. Outside painting was splattering our deck with no warning.

Upgraded to Privilege Class and it was well worth it! Our butler, Manuel, was exceptional. Couldn't do enough for us. Lots of choices of ala carte restaurants. Privilege Lounge offered ala carte breakfast, lunch and dinner. Huge resort but the trolley system was exceptional. Never waited longer than 5 mins to catch a ride. Long walking beach and the ocean was fairly shallow for quite a ways in. No mosquitoes to speak of. The rooms didn't have the usual musty smell you get in humid destinations. The ice cream parlor, coffee shop, and creperie were a nice touch. WiFi throughout the resort. [Details]

Ocean Riviera Paradise Resort, Mexico

We just spent a week at the Ocean Riviera Paradise Resort in Mexico, and it was a really great trip! The resort is super clean, well-kept, and easy to get around, which made everything so much easier.

The food was awesome! The buffet always had plenty of fresh options, and it tasted good every time. The reservation-only restaurants were definitely worth checking out too—they had some great dishes and a nice vibe.

The beach is beautiful but can get pretty crowded, so I'd recommend going early if you want a good spot. The pools, though, were much more chill, and we had no problem finding a place to sit and relax.

The staff were super friendly and helpful, which made us feel really welcome. The only downside was dealing with the people trying to sell the Privilege Memberships. They were pretty pushy and wasted a lot of our time, even after we told them we weren't interested. That part was annoying.

Overall, though, I'd totally stay here again. It's a solid resort and a great choice for a fun and relaxing vacation! [Details]

We booked the El Beso suite while at Ocean. We really enjoyed the adults only pool and building and that is was close to all the restaurants. The staff were all quite friendly. The resort itself was very nice and fairly modern and although it was decently busy, we never felt rushed. We tried Pez Vela, Laconda, Blue Moon, Sakura and the buffet. Blue Moon and Sakura had the best food of the restaurants with Laconda and the buffet being just okay. Our chef at Sakura (I believe her name was Lulu) was the best and very funny. She deserves a raise! El Beso also had a private breakfast at Blue Moon but we never took the opportunity to try it . We also liked that there were only 3 restaurants you had to make reservations for and 2/3 could be done on the app. Even if we had to wait 20 minutes for a table at a restaurant without the app, we'd just hit up the lobby bar. The beach pool was nice but always packed so we opted to stay at the El Beso pool and walk the beach a few times. We also loved all the coati's that ran around 24/7 and the spider monkeys that would be out in the morning. Our trip was very relaxing and we would be up to try other Ocean resorts in the future. Not 5 star accommodations but 5 star service

We upgraded to privilege at check in $1400 additional total $6000 for one week for two people. After waiting 4 hours after check in the first room had black mold and rust on the sofa. The walls were in very bad shape room 3310. Our butler requested room change where I checked the bed and there were little black bugs, the night manager came and verified room 3216 and we were placed in room 3226, the patio door did not have a lock which I said I felt unsafe staying in a room without a lock on the door. The fan in the bathroom leaked onto the toilet. The food is not 5 star - mediocre at best. Where this resort stands out or shines is the people who work there give 5 star service. The condition of the resort is very worn and concerning but this is beyond the service staff control. [Details]

Honestly, there was nothing “wrong” with the resort, but there is nothing to write home about. It's beautiful, the food at the buffet was good and the entertainment staff was fun. Service was not good, anywhere. If it was at the front desk, the bar, an a la carte restaurant you always felt like you were inconveniencing that person. It was quite off putting for 2 women in their early 30s, tipping everyone and receiving eye rolls when asking for a mixed drink. It could be because I worked in restaurants for years but it just left a very negative feeling. [Details]

Lovely area, but bad experience

The price was great for a swim up room, so we bought it. When we arrived (Sunday night), no swim up rooms available so we were "upgraded" to a terrace room (top floor with a private terrace above it). We are not tanning folk, so wanted a swim up room like we had paid for. Was told the soonest we could get into a swim up room was Tuesday. 9pm Monday night we were told, no, sorry, no swim up room available until Wednesday (which wouldn't work for us since we had to leave hotel at 630 am for an excursion and would have no where to leave our valuables). So we arranged to move rooms on Thursday, begrudgingly. That night, it rained. A lot. And flooded the landing to the terrace with rain coming down the stairs into the room. Also a drip from the beam above the bed onto my face. Magically at 4am, a swim up room became available. No explanation, no apologies for the inconvenience of being flooded out of our room. While the remainder of the week went well, the starting experience definitely put a sour taste in regards to the resort. [Details]

Overall it's a really nice resort. Food is pretty good, a la carte restaurants are decent with many options to choose from, Mike's coffee shop was a nice surprise with yummy sandwiches for snacks, smoothies and light desserts. We also enjoyed the ice cream bar!
Entertainment was ok, nice theatre. Liked the bowling but fills up fast in the evenings. Beaches were nice although the water on Oct was a bit rough so mainly used the pools. Stayed at the Eden pool mostly since that had the better music and fun activities. Water park was fun for my skinny 13 year old but she's a bit big for a lot of the slides so she had to push herself along! Ha!
Drinks were tasty but not consistent around the resort so sometimes it was way too strong or sweet so often I would ask for not too sweet. Teen club was not a draw for my 13 and 16 daughters unfortunately. Young boys playing video games, no activities for them in evening. Might be nice to have dance/music parties in the evenings or something. Staff were great.

Tips: Bring a bunch of $1 US bills - nice to tip along the way for good service. Bring mosquito repellant! This suckers were nasty! Bring a reusable insulated cup to keep drinks cold. Bartender fills it up no problem.

Warning, when you arrive the “host” is working for Timeshare and will try to sign you up for a talk with incentives like a private breakfast birthday celebration (lie - it was in the buffet), a pendant, shopping tour to Playa del Carmen for 3 hours (took you to a jewelry factory and tequila place for the first hour) and $80 discount off an excursion(this was good). Took all morning and didn't ever get the free pendant because they ran out of coupons then when we did get one after many times asking then the jewelry store said they needed 24 hours which we didn't have leaving the next afternoon. Too many lies so left a bad taste in our minds. [Details]

Decent vacation experience

My parents and my family of 4 with a toddler and baby visited this resort in June 2023. We had a decent experience with the hotel, food was okay but not amazing. I feel like the same few ingredients were used over and over in all the different restaurants. If you don't book privilege, the only breakfast option is the buffet which gets really old really fast. The AC in the buffet was almost non existent which made eating food and feeding young children very stressful. There were high chairs easily accessible in all restaurants which was nice. My baby overheated and developed a fever and got dehydration and had to stay in the hotel most of the vacation because there was good AC only in the rooms and not too many other places. Room was big and clean and a good quality clean pack and play was provided for the baby. The Daisy pool and Waterpark was great for the toddler and the family time timeslot at the Daisy club was a great safe place where he could run around and play and cool off everyday from 1-2:30pm. I wouldn't come back to this resort again just because we would like to try new resorts, but we appreciated how kid friendly it was. I would have liked more access to hand sanitizer and seen more cleanliness measures at the buffet. [Details]

[Details]

The strong points
Le personnel! Vraiment sympathique et souriant. L'aménagement et le décor, vraiment très beaux. Les restaurants Blue Moon et Sakura sont vraiment excellents. On avait un déshumidificateur dans notre chambre ce qui la rendait très confortable. Demandez!
The weak points
La propreté laisse à désirer dans les chambres. L'attente d'une heure environ pour restaurants à la carte car on ne pouvait pas réserver. Très gros irrirant ! Le seul qu'on doit réserver est le japonais et complet instantanément sur l'application. Grrr!
