Fun pool, good buffet, lovely grounds, poor beach

, Baltimore, ON
2024-04-17
First Mexican family vacay- kids are 10,13,13. Main “ fun” pool was great. Slide, rock jump, swim up bar. Spent 90% of our time there. Drinks were great and no lines fast service if you prefer a waiter. Beach volleyball was fun and beach is okay but you will be looking at two rows of giant sandbags to stop the sea grass removing sea debris is an ongoing every day thing guys with wheelbarrows and heavy machinery as well. Resort problem, humanities problem for heating of the Earth.
Kobo restaurant t was excellent, great show hibachi style. French was mediocre at best with some clear misses and very long wait times once seated. (45 minutes before you see any food). We loved the self serve cafe Dolores For fast and easy, pastries, delicious cookies, and cappuccino, espresso and iced lattes. Also great ice cream. We mostly did the breakfast buffet at Alhambra. Seated immediately, no lines if you eat at 7-8am which we do. We usually had lunch at the buffet by the “ fun pool” . Good, lots of variety. We missed a few of our dinner reservations because it's difficult to time your day if you are at the pool til 4 or 5 then we needed a shower and siesta , so we found 730-8 pm a perfect time. Anything earlier and we missed it. So we'd just go back to the buffet. The evening show is usually at 9 so consider that when making reservations for dinner. I'd book reservations for 6-7 on nights if you want to make the show. Or just head to the buffet an hour before the show starts. Fire show, and Mayan heritage show were excellent. The kids club is for kids 3-6 ( my 10 yr old was NOT interested at all)…. And the teens club is just a room with foosball. So do not come here if you are hoping your kids will be taken snorkelling or kite surfing or sailing etc. there are no such activities. [Details]

The strong points
Staff was fun, polite and kind. Very clean and beautiful grounds. Other people that I spoke with thought the food was incredible, we thought it was good. We eat very well on a regular basis though.
The weak points
Room service was awful except the burger which is excellent. The rest mostly got thrown out. Concierges suck- they couldn't help with anything . My daughter needed a tampon and no one could help. Lack of clothes storage in the room, hooks needed!
Sanitary measures
Room and grounds were nice and clean. Bed sheets sometimes did not fit properly, but we made do. Beds were good, Murphy bed was not comfortable at all.

Well designed and maintained resort.

Definitely deserves a 5 star rating, as I have nothing but good to say about this resort. Very well maintained and designed so walking is minimal. I liked the fact that all facilities could be used, including the older El Cid facilities. With children, I would choose the El Cid Marina area, as the pool is much more family friendly and lively. Fantastic family vacation at Ventus

, Edmonton, AB
2018-11-05
My wife and I and two kids (7 and 3) had a wonderful time at Ventus resort. We booked the Platinum 1-bdrm suite package and upgraded onsite to a swimout suite with a pool off our patio. Best decision we could have made! The kids were up early swimming while my wife and I enjoyed room service on our loungers. Platinum access with top shelf drinks and internet access was a must and well used.

Our butler, Xavier, was amazing!! He really went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed and our stay was the best it could be.

The pools, bars and restaurants were all excellent and all of the service from everyone from concierge and Platinum Club staff to maids, room service, bartenders, waiters and golf cart drivers was top notch excellent. The buffets had limited selection but they did change it up enough daily to offer variety - there was always something for everyone. The Mercado de Dolores and Cafe Amore was such a cool venue and while the kids grew tired of it (despite always finding something to satisfy them), my wife and I were big fans.

The kids especially enjoyed the main pool with the diving pool and the waterslides with all the activities put on by the entertainment event staff. The evening entertainment was excellent as well with Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Elvis being our favourites, as well as the Fire Show.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would come back again and again, without question! [Details]

The strong points
Platinum Club was worth the extra money, as was the one bedroom swimout suite. Pre-ordered early morning room service was extremely handy and a nice touch.
The weak points
Beach was pretty small, but really well maintained. We didn't spend much time on the beach as the water wasn't as appealing as we remember due to the Sargassum issue (not the hotels fault - not casting any blame or negative reflection on the hotel).
