The Barceló Maya Caribe

The service upon arrival was great and professional. The check in process at the premium check in was smooth and the staff made sure all was correct and in order before going to our room for the first time.
Food quality, service and cleanliness was top quality.
The beach was well maintained and kept clean. There was daily amounts of sea-weed washing up on the shore, but the maintenance staff were diligently remove the sea-weed and grooming the beach. This made for minimal amount during our 10 day stay.
Maid service for the room was well done and very thorough. The beer fridge remained well stacked and when asked for certain items they were added to our stock.
Booking for restaurants was a smooth process provided it was done the day prior.
The double decker busing system on the resort to all hotels and attractions was great and average wait times were 10-15 mins max.
The check out service in the premium checkout was also a smooth process with clear understanding of all charges and details.
I have already and will continue to recommend any of the 6 hotels within the resort to friends and family. It caters to all types: couples only, secluded hotels and whole family experiences.
Looking forward to when we get to go back and make more memories. [Details]

Customer service and follow up to ensure the service quality is up to standard throughout our stay.
The weak points
The walls in our room were not the best for being sound proof. The last 2 days some people moved into the room right next to our and they were noisy. The 2nd night we let the hotel staff know and they dealt with it and it was quiet from then onwards.

Christmas 2023 Vacation

Our family of 4 stayed at the Barcelo Maya Caribe for 7 days. Our overall experience was good. The hotel is beautiful however the rooms are starting to look like they are in need of an update. The pools and beaches are amazing as is the gym. The a la carte restaurants are great however availability is limited which we found discouraging (we were only able to book 3 of our 4 allowed sittings due to everything being already booked...and we tried booking on our first day in the resort!). The tennis courts were great but again you need to pre-book the 2 courts. This proved to be difficult as there are only 2 courts shared amongst all 6 resorts and they were always fully booked...more courts should be constructed as they are clearly in high demand. The main buffets and pool side buffets were just OK. There was a lot of selection however the overall quality of the food was sub par at best, especially at the poolside buffets. At the pool, food is prepared and then it just sits for the rest of the afternoon. My wife actually got food poisoning at the Captain Morgan grill on day 2 of our trip. The buffets need to be upgraded especially considering my other comment regarding the lack of a la carte availability. The staff were all amazing! [Details]

Nice place to relax & enjoy the Caribbean beach

Hotel Maya Caribe, a very nice complex. All Public Areas are in great condition and well groomed yards. The rooms are somewhat dated but clean. Maintenance needs to do better, the lamp socket was rusted and burned out, lamps where broken, toilet seat inoperable, bathroom light burned out and the safe was just loose in the closet (!). But you know what, we said something and they happily repaired most of it quickly. I mentioned the power socket and I hope they've repaired it for the next guest. Friendly and hard working staff. You share the public areas and restaurants of many resorts on these huge grounds. Food was great, I would go back! Enjoy this great place. Internet works but its slow.
For you beef lovers, this place actually had great tasting, thick pieces of steak, at the Spanish Restaurant. Never had beef this good in Mexico!
There is a dolphin show too, its short but worth seeing. [Details]

Beautiful beaches, warm ocean and pools, great staff, great food, clean, good beef too!
The weak points
Juist minor, the themed restaurants, some menu items, are not what they are supposed to be, i.e. the Spanish Restaurant has a "Gypsy Arm" that is supposed to have fruit. There is none! -There are no face towels and a lack of hand towels.

I paid the premium package which gives you access to seperate checkin/lounge, premium alcohol and 24/7 room service as well as access to other sister hotels buffets. I traveled with my family which has two young children a 4 and 2 year old. The only reason why I'm giving this place 3 stars across the board is because of the amenities for the kids. Otherwise if this was just based on the food and service I would give it a 2, especially because of the value i received for the price I paid. [Details]

Wonderful resort everything was as we hoped. We have stayed here several times. The staff worked very hard to make all aspects of the resort a great experience.
The weak points
Unfortunately due to spring break in some places it was very noisy at times during the night with yelling and partying. I would suggest security make rounds to stop the noise.

The common areas have all been updated and are quite modern. We were actually located in the “Beach” buildings, not the “Caribe” buildings where we booked, which was slightly inconvenient since we had to walk quite far to our lobby for tours/shuttles. Might not have been an issue if I didn't have some mobility limitations. Rooms were slightly dated but comfortable. Our toilet wobbled, and there was no fan in the bathroom. TV was new but we couldn't move it to connect to a device/phone. Food was plentiful and variety was great. A la Carte restaurants were fantastic - bit of a double standard on dress code thou since guys have to wear pants but women can wear booty shorts. Plenty of things to do. Pools are awesome. Beach was pristine (sand was a little compacted).
Activities board was difficult to follow since there were no locations on it (which resort, where, etc).

Beautiful Resort!

The Barcelona Maya Caribe is a beautiful resort. Very large, lots to see, and lots to do. The pools were a lot of fun especially for our kids (8 and 6). There was tons of room and this is the first resort where we didn't have to worry about finding loungers. The beach was beautiful with tons of palm trees and loungers. The water was clear and you could see fish swimming all around you.

The rooms were good. Nothing special but they were clean so that's the important thing. The buffet was also good. Lots of selection so there is always something for everyone. Pretty much the same food everyday with a few extra things depending on the theme in the evening.

A few things that we weren't happy about was the restaurants were hard to get into. We were there for a week and we only got into 2 out of 5. The Japanese one was the most popular and we couldn't get a time to get in. Next time I would book all the restaurants the first day there. We waited 2 days before we initially booked.
Another thing that I was not happy about is that all the fun activities cost extra. They advertise the kids water slides, bowling, skating, and dolphins in their pictures but we did not know this was extra until we got there. I thought we read everything clearly but if it was written down we missed this info. Talking to others at the resort they had no idea either about the extra charges.
Bowling - $15 per person USD per game!

Kids water slides - $20 per person USD. Parents are not allowed in to take pictures. If you want to stay with your kids you have to pay as well even if you don't go in the water.

Skating - $5 per person for 30 min. This is not too bad

Dolphins - $80 (I didn't expect this to be included but it was still an extra).

Some alcohol. My husband asked for a Canadian alcohol and they said it was $5 USD Extra per drink. [Details]

The hotel was beautiful. Very clean and well maintained. The grounds are lush & very well taken care of. We came as a family of 7. 5 adults & 2 children and there was something for everyone. Lots to do and see with it's many hotels attached, lots of beaches, several pools, evening entertainment etc.etc. And, a Mall attached! The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Experience at Maya Caribe

This is one of the nicest beaches I have ever been at. Warm waters, sand, very little weeds and only the odd piece of corral on the bottom. We could always find a spot at the pool, hotel staff was great. The resort is so clean and well kept. There was always staff maintaining the resort and the grounds. There were also so many activities for kids. We took advantage of the hockey rink, bowling, arcade and swimming with dolphins was a 5 minute walk from our room. All of the staff at the activities were so kind, the lady I spoke with in the premium reception area was wonderful and helpful all the times I spoke with her. Wonderful Resort

We just returned from a very nice holiday to the Barceló Maya Caribe. The resort and grounds were beautiful! Our room was very clean, large and nice. Our water was always hot and the water pressure was wonderful. The resort was very nicely laid out and we never had to walk far to get anywhere. Everything was close. The service was excellent and every staff member was incredible! Even the guys changing the garbages on the beach would ask you how your stay was and if you needed anything. They called our room and asked if there was anything they could do for us and if everything was ok. I have never had better service anywhere! There was always food available and there were lots of choices and it was always excellent. The drinks were good and plentiful and a huge variety, everything you could ask for. We tried 4 a la cartes, La Fuente the Spanish one was not great, it looked good and the buffet salad bar was good, but the meals and desserts were overcooked and not good. The Mexican restaurant was ok, meals were decent, dessert not great. The Seafood restaurant was excellent from appetizer to dessert. What blew us away though was Kyoto the Japanese restaurant. We had Carlos Alvarez as our chef and he was excellent!! He cooked everything perfectly! The meat melted in your mouth, and he was very entertaining. The beach was well shaded with trees and there were always tons of beach chairs. No having to get up early to get a chair, that might have been the best part of the trip! The beach was beautiful but rocky, bring water shoes. We struggled with the internet access, we had decided that we wanted to unplug so weren't going to purchase the package, we would take a bit of time a couple of days during the week to use the public wifi advertised to check in at home. We could not get the public wifi to work most of the time. The only other issue we had was they advertised 16 restaurants, this is a bit of a misleading statement. There is a grouping of 4 resorts together and between all the resorts there were 16 restaurants. You were welcome to eat at any of the resorts anytime. All in all we had an incredible vacation and we would go back to this resort again. [Details]

Cleanliness within the pools, good drinks (not too strong or too sweet), great food, and lots of options for seating around the pool/beach. Ocean was calm, clear and inviting the entire week.
The weak points
Pool/beach chairs and pool area were not cleaned regularly (bird poop, etc), alcohol drinks not availably until noon, & restrooms not monitored regularly. Safe locked upon arrival and toilet overflowed - both fixed quickly.

The hotel was awesome. It was so beautiful, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The food was amazing, the service was fantastic just an awesome place.
The only real hiccup was the check-in - we arrived @8:00 pm on a Saturday night and the check-in process took about 45 minutes.

Terrific vacation. I stayed at the Barcelo Maya Caribe for a week and was not disappointed. This was my second time staying at this resort. The staff is friendly and helpful, the grounds are immaculate and the food options are amazing. My first couple nights, my room was located close to the theatre which was too loud at night for my tastes so when I asked to switch rooms they moved me to a quieter section of the hotel with no fuss.
I'm giving the wi-fi 3 stars because you have to pay and extra fee for it, but it does work well.

Our second time at this resort, we had gone to the Maya Colonial a few years back, but visited mainly the Caribe therefore, we decided to come to the resort this year. Upon arrival to the airport, it was probably the worst we've ever encountered. Several planes had arrived at the same time, therefore there was about a 1 hour wait to pass the customs. Upon arriving to the airport transfer bus to hotel (1 hour drive) we got a flat tire... driver did not speak much English, had a tire but no jack, it was about 1:30-2:00 am in the morning; we felt a little unsafe in the middle of nowhere on a highway in Mexico. Upon arrival to hotel (45 min after this incident) we we're not advised that there was an EDM (Electronic Dance Music) Festival for 4 days during our stay. My girlfriend and I were not expecting this although we enjoy this type of music, we were looking for some relaxation-- During the 4 days of this festival from 10:00am-11:00pm at night, we kept hearing the sounds of the music (keep in mind DJ's were at the pool and at the stage on the beach which made it much louder) all music played on the resort was EDM music. Most theatres were taken for this festival, so we did not get to see much shows unfortunately, which we enjoy very much. There was about 1000 guests for this festival, the resort was JAM packed. We thought this was a super cool concept but, we wish we were advised prior to our booking with the booking agency and upon arrival to the resort. Towards the end of the trip, we were looking forward to go home... We may have considered going elsewhere if we would of known. Overall, we didn't relax as much as we were hoping but still a good time. TIP: research for music festivals prior to booking. Overall-- we love this resort, BARCELO is a great chain, so many things to do! Highly recommended for families, couples, weddings etc... we would definitely return! [Details]

There are four sections : Beach, Caribe, Colonial and Tropical. You get access at all four no matter where you stay. Lots of pools with plenty of chairs (sun loungers). Did not have to play the reservation game by placing towels on chairs early in the morning. Beach was ok although some seaweed was washing ashore. Main entertainment shows were not great, just ok. The small shows around 6:30 pm were held at Maya Mall on a small stage with people standing around (not a good setup) . Food was ok and drinks were good. Free wifi was limited to certain hours/locations. Room was a bit dated but large enough and clean. AC worked great and was surprisingly quiet.
Overall a good vacation and we would consider going back. [Details]

The hotel is big and very clean. A lot of activities for kids and adults although there is activities that are not included that the resort has in it's premesis( bowling,mini golf, internet,surf pool and the carousel roundabout) . The food I had no problem at the buffet , alot of choices.The thing I hated the most was the cleanliness of the room, they only do your bed and that's it, your floor is never clean.
