This resort had some pros and cons. When I arrived I was given a chit for my bag then told to check in; once I checked in I was told the porter was on a break and I would have to wait until he returned to go to my room. I awkwardly ate at the buffet with all of my other luggage in tow, and as a solo traveler this was extra awkward. The resort is lovely, and great if you want to spend a vacation by the pool. Almost all of the activities are at the pool. The biggest problem I had was the communication. There was nothing to say what hours facilities were open (except if you found a placard with the hours which was not always easy to find). The app was not great as you could not search activities in the app and had to find a qr code to scan, which then linked back to the app. However, the map in the app did not use the same place names as the activities so at times it was hard to find things. Many people I spoke to could not locate restaurants or other amenities. It was difficult to find out where entertainers might be, and the main show at the hacienda costs extra to attend (and during the show you cannot access any of the shops or activities in the courtyard). It was also not great for solo travelers. I often did not get any service at the beach or at the pool, or at the main bar near reception - if I wanted anything I had to go to the counter, and often would lose my seating unless I left personal items behind (which is never a great thing to do when traveling by yourself). The room was very nice but inconsistently cleaned and refreshed. My bedding wasn't changed the 8 nights I was there (I could have asked but there were 2 beds in my room so it didn't really matter). My mini bar was sometimes replenished with water and sometimes not. The room I had was around the pool so it was loud music for most of the days and evenings which you just have to tune out (one of the djs was really good, another was terrible so it got cringey to have in the background). The staff were incredibly friendly, but catered to couples and groups (they would get service much more frequently than I or my fellow solo travelers would get). On the whole, I think if they had better communication and more activities that weren't centred on being by the pool it would have been a lot better. The food is generally okay but does get very monotonous; I only felt conspicuous as a solo traveler at the a la carte dinners, again because it often felt I was an afterthought compared to the larger groups. I did enjoy my stay overall but if I hadn't planned a lot of activities off site I'd have been very bored. The casino is okay but very small and the table stakes are high for the table games. There are a lot of Canadian travelers at this resort, who were friendly. On the whole, a lovely place but caters to a very specific audience. [Details]

The strong points
Friendly staff, beautiful facility, great rooms. Great place to go if you want to sit by the pool and listen to dance music while drinking.
The weak points
Bad communication, not many activity options that didn't involve the main pool. While it was an adults only area there were frequently kids there. Unless you use the Collectivo it's expensive to leave the resort on your own to explore.

The strong points
Really good food at the buffet and most of the a la cartes. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very well maintained. Modern facilities.
The weak points
The beach was mostly rocky and often covered in seaweed. Loud music seemed to be everywhere. Loud noise from a complex of machinery that ran 24 7.

2 Week Stay in Jan at Bahia Grand Tequila
Veejay, Edmonton, AB
2026-01-27
This resort is advertised as a 5* with access to multiple resorts and 3 A La Carte Restaurants per week.
-5* in terms of number of pools and spa. If you are expecting 5* in terms of luxury - - bath robes, excellent food, excellent cocktails, excellent beach, lounge, and pool service, snacks at pool - this is not the resort for you.
-Value for money is a 3 or 4 out of 5, but it is NOT as advertised in terms of 5* and A La Carte Access.
-Clean spacious rooms and great cleaning staff.
-Many pool options but no service at Main Tequila pool and lacking at Infinity Pool
-This resort was low capacity Jan 11 - 25 so they must have cut back on staff as it was evident by empty tables at A La Cartes, lack or inconsistent at service at pools, long lines at pool bars, and inconsistent service in lounges.
-It is confusing in terms of what other resort pools, beaches, and restaurants you have access to. Inconsistent information provided by staff.
-Wait staff in restaurants were good to very good.
-No policing the no-smoking rules at beach or at pools.
-Very good at policing no kids in the adult section of Tequila.
-If you love a good beach - this is not for you. Tequila beach has a cove that is quite rocky. Also have access to Grand Tulum beach which is nicer but if your expectation is that pristine beach, you will be disappointed. It's about a 20 minute shuttle ride from Tequila. [Details]

The strong points
Nice rooms, nice room staff. Lots of pool options. Easy to get shuttles.
The weak points
A La Carte restaurants - did not get all of our 6 bookings for our 2 week stay yet empty tables. Drink quality was poor - used a very poor mix for cocktails. Disappointing beach. Not a lot of well-spoken English staff. No service at pools.
