Riviera Maya

The resort is very well designed with many smaller 3 or 4 story buildings. It is a real jungle environment with lots of wildlife around. Nice piped music all around the resort. Food was consistently good at both buffet and al la cartes. We were a group of 8 and they often could accommodate us for a table in the restaurants. Service was overall very good with special shout out to the pool beverage gal!! Loungers continue to be game of who can get up earliest to put towels out and then never show up. Not sure how the resort can manage that better? There were 3 pools which allowed you to be in the action, close to the action or away from the action. Beach was good and always found chairs but that was likely because of the seaweed. Evening entertainment was overall good with a special shout out the Imperial Band! very talented group! Rooms were well appointed and the cleaning was consistently good. We had a couple of service requests and they were very quick to respond. The public areas were well maintained as well. Overall, you feel like you are at a 5* resort!

Trying to reserve à la carte restaurant was near impossible. We were lucky to get 2 out of 7… most of the staff are amazing and accommodating Entertainment was good in the evening and the trolleys that you can use to get to/from the resorts are great.

This was our first time staying with a Barcelo property. The Maya Palace staff were superb. We had the upgraded room to the junior poolside suite. The room was beautiful, the bed was luxurious, the bathroom clean and spacious. The property of the Maya Palace was well laid out and is quite large. The staff ensure the beach area is well maintained and clean. There were plenty of loungers at the beach and pool side. Not a lot of shaded options though. No umbrellas or cabanas at the beach - you move your lounger around under the tall palm trees if you are seeking a bit of shade. The buffets (plural!!) were outstanding. Massive. Huge assortment of food and also beverage and dessert options. There is an adult only pool section tucked in behind - no one told us about it, and we only discovered it on our last day, which was unfortunate. It has private cabanas you can rent for the day, with its own bar. Highly recommend taking the shuttle bus to tour the entire 5 Barcelo properties. We did walk to the Spa and had breakfast at the neighboring property. The grounds and buffet were significantly less appealing than the Maya Palace! The Spa is world-class! You definitely want to visit. The nightly entertainment was great. A different show each night. Since you are staying at the Maya Palace, you can go to the shows at the neighboring properties as well. Across the 5 adjoining properties there are lots of family friendly activities. There is go-carts, arcade, bowling, mini-golf, a mall!, an outdoor market, a disco, a theater, a waterpark. The lobby bar of the Maya Palace has live piano music quite late. I wish it started at 10pm rather than 11:30pm. overall our experience at the Maya Palace was exceptional. And we look forward to returning.

Not typically an all inclusive person, but really enjoyed our stay at Barcelo Maya Riviera. Much less busy than the rest of the adjoining resorts, so good if you want access to beach chairs and some peace and quiet. Sargassum was a bit of an issue, but the resort had a dedicated tractor to remove it from the beach as it came in. Beach is a bit rocky getting in, but you can always go to one of the ones nearby if you want to swim in the ocean. Our room had a bit of a dank smell when we got there, but it cleared up. Notified front desk and they were ready to prep another room for us but we decided it was much better after a day.

We stayed at this resort from Thursday, February 19 to Thursday, February 26. We were in a deluxe junior suite room. It was adequate for our needs. King size bed was comfortable and the double shower was always hot and awesome. The bar was stocked every day and fresh towels left. There were a few aesthetic things that could have been better such as the rusting on the bathroom mirrors and the overall lighting in the bathroom but all in all it was a pretty good room. The party pool was loud and a lot of fun for a couple of days, but became too crowded and noisy after about our third day. We moved onto the quiet pool at the other end near the beach and that was very nice. The food was excellent. The only complaint I have is trying to book reservations as none of the restaurants took reservations, so you had to stand in line to get in. One night we waited for over an hour to get into the restaurant. Having said that, we travelled with a party of eight so that made things a little more challenging when it came to seating. Most of the staff were friendly and accommodating to our needs. Entertainment was good, especially the 70s 80s rock band. The food at the beach was also very good, but the beach itself was pretty small and there was a lot of seaweed when we were there.I would give this resort an overall rating of 4.5.

Excellent facility with easy access to beaches and pools; Friendly staff; Great variety on drinks. Both beds in our room were squeaky and not comfortable. Night time shows are terrible. Need variety on A La Carte Dinner options

My family and I visited grand sunset princess for 7 days in February. This resort was one of the best places we have ever visited. Starting off, the staff was incredible. The service was 11/10, every single worker deserves credit for making our time so memorable. Specifically Lorenzo Poot, at the snack sunset buffet was amazing. He was so kind, took care of our family every breakfast and was ontop of his service. He made every meal enjoyable. The food was also top-tier. The entire resort was spotless. Overall this resort was one you have to visit when going to Cancún Mexico.

Overall, I'd rate the resort as a 'B'.

Wonderful vacation spot!! Very friendly and helpful staff. Our butler, Eliu Varga, went above and beyond to make our stay pleasurable. Restaurants(except CAVE) were amazing. Resort was clean and tidy and just lovely.

The resort was nice and what you would expect from a Riu. Unfortunately, we were disappointed in the variety of food in the buffet and both my husband and I fell ill with food poisoning, and heard of several others who had same and apparently there is no room service at this resort so no one could bring us anything to help. Staff was nice, beach was nice, Spa was lovely, but won't go again.
