Lucky Deals Four Plus Adults Only Varadero

This hotel has SO Much Potential to be Great, however it was not! It is poorly Managed and extremely understaffed!
We have been to Cuba a dozen times and thought, lets give it a gamble and see what we get, we were ok with the 6 hotels in the list for Lucky Deals, just maybe we'd get a good one, but not so lucky, in fact several of us got this resort, my guess, because no one booked it! We will not do this again. This resort is at the end of Varadero, so neat to see the boats coming and going, its very windy up at this end, which makes if very hard to enjoy the beach, water too rough to swim and you are pelted with sand. Beach had lots and lots of shells, so not a soft powdery sand! and the tractor raking the beach could use a little guidance.
Was never a problem to get a beach or pool chair!
A small, quaint Adults Only Resort, 84 rooms, 1 small pool, and 1 Poorly Run Restaurant! You can use the facilities at the sister hotel, Blau Marina, but that was not much better! Again very under staffed! The buffet was extremely busy, extremely and if there were 500 people there were 200 plates.....Always had to wait 15 minutes for them to bring out 10 plates, and you haven't even got in the line up for the eggs/omelet! Never walked in and actually had a clean table, always waited for them to clear and re set the table, and you'd be lucky to get your coffee and juice or drinks from them. Not their fault the resort just could not handle the capacity.
Lobby bar, again couldn't handle the number of people and long wait to be served and the staff were less than friendly, One girl was down right rude!so not the Cuba people we have come to know and love! I think they are just so over worked particularly there! We did hear a rumor that they had 100 workers walk out within that past week or so, don't know!
There was one lady at the reception, I wish I had got her name, but she never wore a name tag, she was awesome! She helped us get a nice dinner reservation for our Anniversary and she was super sweet!
We only could get reservations for the Italian and Seafood, we didn't get to the Spanish! Those two were ok, nothing special, just nice to not weed through the mayhem of bodies at the buffet!
Rooms: Clean, Large, 29 block on the second floor, great views, very large patio with nice patio furniture. Lots of little ant type bugs crawling on tables and vanity and tub. Comfie King bed! air conditioner worked great, in fact seen them installing lots of new air conditioners. Fridge Stocked daily, 2 beer, 2 pop and large bottle of water that wasn't sealed anytime I opened it! 5 days out of 9 days, we had no towels but hey we had water with great water pressure!! large tub with shower. Room Service available too which we did for the first time ever, we took advantage as I was sick for 2 days and didn't feel well enough to go out to supper. The next day we saw the staff delivering room service walking through the resort, plates not covered but that must be so the staff can eat the fries on the way to the clients room, YES, we saw her eating off their plates upon delivery!!!!
The Only Restaurant on this Resort is in much need of a Manager on Duty at all meals!!! Our first morning there we had no idea what we could order.....after a few days of ordering breakfast, lunch or supper, even off the menu, we still did not get what we ordered.....if I asked for mashed potatoes I got French fries, if I asked for French fries I got mashed potatoes. They just couldn't get it straight, but by the end of the week it got better! From breakfast, lunch to dinner the white table cloths were not changed, possibly for days by the looks of some of them.....not a big deal but if whoever rates this place as a 4 Star.....ABSOLUTELY NOT! This should absolutely not be in the option of LUCKY DEALS,,,,I'd say not LUCKY at all for getting this Resort! WE have stayed in 3* in Cuba and much better service and quality.
Like I said in the beginning this place has SOOOO much potential, would I go back??? I'd like to but I'd have to see some good reviews first!!! [Details]
