First time to Cuba

I was a little sceptical when family wanted to book a trip to Cuba especially after hearing about the shortages and outages.
We were pleasantly surprised! The breakfast buffet was our favourite, they had fresh eggs and bacon every morning and all the other options never left you hungry.
We often enjoyed lunch at the snack bar that's right close to the pool, again plenty of options; they also made our favourite drinks never leaving us thirsty. Dinner buffet was good too they had fresh pasta bar and meats/fish that they can grill fresh for
you every night.
We were also able to enjoy all three à la carts. Each restaurant had something on the menu they didn't have but over all still lots of options to choose from. All the staff work really hard to make sure you have a great experience while you are visiting special mention to Yanelis, Yordy, Beatriz, Orialys, Arisleidy, and Loraine.
You see Prince who is the hotel manager everyday walking around checking in with guests and staff making sure everyone is taken care of.
We did opt for the $40/person VIP package we thought for the price it was worth it.
We brought some of our favourite snacks with us to have by the beach/pool and some condiments like ketchup, vinegar, salt and pepper and even maple syrup for breakfast.
They did run out of black tea a couple of times throughout our stay but was able to get more in so if you like that, I would recommend bringing some of your own. They did have other options like peppermint and earl grey.
We loved the entertainment by the pool in the morning and the lobby bar every night from the singers to the musicians.
Overall this was a really nice resort especially if you want some down time for rest and relaxation, they do draw an older crowd so it's a quiet resort which we were happy about and all the guests are really friendly and easy to talk with. I would definitely come back and recommend this resort to family and friends.

Some things for improvement. The sliding doors in the rooms on the balcony and closets are so hard to open. We wish the dividers on the balcony were more private. The pool needed to be cleaned more regularly as there was sand debris on the bottom. The nightly entertainment was not that good I think we saw two shows at the beginning of our trip and couldn't bring ourselves to watch anymore. [Details]

Love this resort

My husband and I spent a week at this great resort. We loved the people. The servers, bartenders and activity team are all amazing. The food at the buffet is good with plenty of options available including grilled fish, meat, pasta and egg stations made to order. The desserts and pastries are amazing. There are 3 a la cartes and they were all delicious. The pool area is beautiful. The beach is gorgeous. We weren't in an updated room but it was more than adequate. We really enjoyed listening to the local musicians in the lobby. The resort is small which was one of the reasons we booked here. [Details]

Second time back at Melia Cayo Coco, felt like coming back home. We left a blustery -20 degrees in Toronto and by 1:00 in the afternoon we were lying on the white powder sand beach in Cayo Coco warming our weary bones. This resort is twenty minutes from the airport unlike other resorts around Cuba which are 1-2 hours away from the airport. It is a quick commute to your hotel. Check in was smooth, We were welcomed with a rum punch and a hot towel. ALex at reception was wonderful, check in was extremely efficient. Roy had our baggage in our room promptly. The room was clean, the mattress was comfortable. We have been to Cuba twelve times and this is the only resort we have visited twice. There was a special dinner for repeat guests and the amount of people we met who have visited this resort multiple times is a testament to the high calibre of this resort. The food was plentiful and delicious. Many types of meat, cheeses (blue cheese, Manchego, swiss cheese), cold cuts (prosciutto, iberico ham). Plenty of great Spanish wine and Cava. My capuccinos every morning were perfect (thanks to Aranelis, Tamara, Yelenis and Jorge). The evening entertainment is classy and elegant. We loved sipping our cocktails in the lobby and listening to a saxophone player, a flautist, outstanding singers, and live bands. Thank you to the bar staff for making the best cocktails (Osvaldo, Marcos, Sarai, Kevin and many more that I may have forgotten to mention)The entertainment staff makes things fun and enjoyable. Prince keeps things running smoothly. Jose-Luis makes my gym workouts pleasant. No electricity issues. This is an elevated, elegant, sophisticated resort for a mature crowd. 4th visit to MCC

We have travelled to most of the Caribbean islands, and always return to Melia Cayo Coco. The staff are the best anywhere, it always feels like coming home to family. We travel with a wheelchair and a walker, and stay in building 87, which is close to everything (actually, it is a small resort, so no building is too far from anywhere). The food and adult beverages are good, we did not notice any shortages, and the public areas are spotless. We really liked the Italian restaurant and the new pool/deck tiles. Two restaurants are upstairs, but the staff will do anything in their power to make it work. The gardeners are so friendly, and I love the little gifts they make out of palm leaves. Everyone is always checking in with us to see if we are okay. We like that there are no children (been there, done that!), and that a person does not have to get up early to get a lounger. There are lots of shaded areas both on the beach and around the pool. The beach is spotless, and raked everyday. There are many repeat guests, which tells you everything. Relaxing vacation

We had a wonderful vacation. We enjoyed the small resort and it was an easy walk everywhere. Our upgraded room was amazing and the air conditioning worked extremely well. We enjoyed the quietness of the resort. The food was delicious, including the buffet. The service was always quick and with a smile. The renovated pool was great as well.

This was a fantastic stay. Don't let folks try to steer you away from the typical Cuba woes. Food was excellent. Rooms clean and renovated. One of the best beaches in Cuba. Staff super friendly and will go out of their way for you. Short 15 min ride to and from airport. This resort has an TON of repeat guests which tells you something right there. Amazing trip at Melia

My partner and I had an incredible experience at this resort! It's great value for money. The resort is gorgeous and has so many fun activities like yoga, beach and pool volleyball, games, dancing, and good entertainment in the evenings. The most underrated thing of the resort is the relaxing music (flute, saxophone) that is played live in the late afternoons. It is a very relaxing resort and does not have a late night party atmosphere. The staff is so genuine and amazing to connect with. We will for sure be back as soon as we can! [Details]

Amazing experience at Melia Cayo Coco

My partner and I stayed here for 9 days over Christmas. We absolutely loved the resort, it's a smaller and quieter hotel with beautiful landscaping and a gorgeous beach. We did not feel the current situation in Cuba at all here, food was plentiful, with fruits and vegetables available for every meal. Wi-Fi was available at any place in the resort, and there were no power issues at all.
Most importantly, the staff were so lovely and animation was amazing, with yoga, volleyball, games, shows, and soothing live music at the lobby and pool. We have never returned to a resort before but would absolutely come back here again! [Details]

Amazing first time in Cayo Coco

This was my first time coming to Cayo Coco, have been to Varadero before few times and I must say that the Melia resort pleasantly surprised me with everything. From staff being so accommodating and nice to amenities being clean and lots of choice. Also, the food selection was very nice and no shortage of anything.
Finally, the entertainment team kept us busy with different activities and at night there was always live music performance in the lobby/bar area. Highly recommend this resort and I can't wait to come back here again. [Details]

Nice and relaxing time

Have Been Returning For 20 Years

We have just returned from a wonderful week vacation at the Melia Cayo Coco. This is an absolutely amazing experience for anyone. The beach, of course, is spectacular, but the grounds, accommodations, pool area are super clean and eye pleasing. The food was excellent and the breads and croissants were superb. The fish, pasta bar, fruits, vegetables were well done and presented. Desserts were plentiful and tasty. Wines were excellent. We have been vacationing at the Melia Cayo Coco since 2017, most times twice a year, and never had regrets. There are new improvements with the new manager and this makes the resort even better. The best part of this resort is its caring staff, they go over and beyond to ensure that you are enjoying your stay. Please do not have any concerns about vacationing at the Melia Cayo Coco. Great vacation at Melia Cayo Coco

We came on the 9th and right after the Rafael, which delayed trips in Varadero, but no issues for Cayo Coco (power, food, water). Not impacted by the earthquake as well.

The aftermath of this was few windy days with wavy waters - still enjoyable.

We chose Melia Cayo Coco and we were spot on, great resort and great people with everything you hope for when going on vacation. The food was great (for people looking for choices, you can find your eggs, bacon, fruits in the morning, I cannot talk about lunch as we skipped every day, and for dinner we tried all 3 restaurants, all with good choices). The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The beautiful beach has plenty of sun beds and palapas. Wide beach front where one can walk for a good 30 minute. Pool is not too deep(unfortunately), but again plenty of spots into the shade.

Wi-Fi is working very well, from reception to the rooms and also at the beach. 

Beautiful renovated rooms with AC working properly and bed was comfy. Every day , water & beer was replenished, when needed.

All the above possible through the hard work of the people trying to offer a memorable vacation. Some of them, I had the pleasure of meeting them - Jorge from lobby bar, Marcos, Felipe, Niurka, and many, many others. 

For tipping we used CAD/USD bills, coins it's difficult for locals to be exchanged.

Everything that you can spare and bring with you (sweets and candy, hygiene products, medicine, crayons and coloring books, powder milk), would make a difference and would be greatly appreciated.

Definitely a resort to return in the future and also to recommend. Reasons for it: the beach & water,and of course the people. [Details]

Second visit and definitely not the last!!

My mom and I did a mother daughter trip at the Melia Cayo Coco back in April 2024 we loved it so much we took my dad and brother back from November 2 - November 9 for our first family vacation in almost a decade! It was my fourth time in Cuba and second time at this resort.

We absolutely LOVE this resort, like before, it exceeded ALL expectations!!!

The resort is small and has a quiet atmosphere, which is perfect for relaxing. It is not a party scene and majority of the tourist tend to be older, some couples and families; whom were all outstanding & kind people!! The gardens were very well maintained. We were also pleased that there were no bracelets required! Unlike April where we never experienced any issues with the mosquitos, this time they were terrible I was covered in mosquito bites by the time I had left. There were a lot of cats around the resort in April, not so many this time around though, but was still a highlight for us as cat lovers! The resort offers free wifi, which has significantly improved since last time!! There were only a few shops on the resort, however there is a market off resort only 1.7km away if you are looking for something to do :)

Regarding entertainment we loved listening to the saxophone player at the pool in the evenings. The entertainment staff offered games at the beach in the morning and by the pool in the afternoon. The activities were more diverse then last time with changing up more of the types of games they played, however I realize this resort is more centred towards relaxing so I think it's fantastic they still have games to accommodate those who want to be involved!!! There was live music every evening in the lobby prior to showtime. The shows were as awesome as they were before, it was great to see they had changed the dances as well which made it feel like we hadn't seen it before!!

The food was exceptional (yet again), compared to other cuba resorts we have visited in the past they are excellent. During our stay we had no issues with shortage of amenities, food, beverages etc. A highlight for us coming back is that they served champagne & wine during lunch/dinner.

Our room was in the 64 block (6412/6421) which was a little far from where we stayed the last time in the 99 block. The bathroom was newly renovated, the beds were comfortable and the room was always replenished with water and beer. In April we noticed tiny ants all over the room, on the desk, on the bathroom counter and in our suitcases, however there was no issue with that what so ever this visit!!

My mom and I attended the return customers dinner which was the absolute highlight of our trip! Definitely something special and tailored to what the resort strives on! With that being said, our main reason for returning is the incredible staff. To mention those who made our trip memorable the first time and even better the second time include Yolanda and Joel at the buffet. Marcos at the lobby bar. Inti & Adonis at the pool bar. Jesus at the beach bar. Arianna, Chocolate mama, Yandy, Yilena, victor, chino & others with the entertainment staff. As well as Prince, a wonderful face to see around the resort everyday!

I absolutely will be returning to this resort again in the near future - it was an incredible experience both times & unlike any other. We are so grateful for all the staff & wonderful friends we met that made our trip unforgettable! [Details]

I was thinking of writing a bad review so we could keep this place our secret but that wouldn't fair to all the wonderful people we met that made our vacation memorable. I've been to Cuba 11 times and this resort was the best for us. Part of that is it adults only with most other resorts you have to pay extra to be on the adult side of that resort. I can go on forever with everything we liked but I am not. I would definitely recommend this place for food, fun and drink. The employees couldn't do enough for you. Always smiling, saying hello and tried to keep a smile on their face to keep a smile in our face. They are the true stars of this resort. GM Bernardo was everywhere making sure that things were running as smoothly as possible. If you want to try Cuba or have been there but try another resort, Melia Cayo Coco is your place.
