Desire Riviera Maya Resort

First and foremost Desire Resort and Spa is a couple's only, clothing optional resort (where most people opt for very little to no clothing) that does cater to couples who are in the lifestyle. I am not going to lie it gets pretty hot and steamy at times. But there is never any pressure to take part in any activities that you do not feel comfortable with. My fiancé and I are not swingers but at no time did we feel any pressure to take part in the lifestyle. Everyone is very respectful.

My fiancé and I traveled to Desire Resort and Spa for the first time in December. We were a little apprehensive as to what to expect from our holiday. I must admit it was one of the best holidays we have had yet. The atmosphere and energy at the resort was simply amazing.

The transfer from the airport to the resort was quick and efficient. Once at the resort the check-in process was quick and painless. In no time we were on our way to our room.
We had a standard room. It was not overly large but for the amount of time we spend in there it was more than enough. The room was clean and very well laid out and the bathroom was spacious. There was ample room in the closet with shelves and a built in drawers. There were also additional drawer space in the dresser across the room.

I must admit that we were very pleased with the food offerings. The buffets offered a variety of international foods with ample healthier options available. In the evenings, El Arrecife, (the buffet) offered different theme nights so guests do not have to eat the same thing every day.
Suki, the Japanese Restaurant was fantastic. We had reservations for the Teppayaki grill. Not only did they serve amazing food, but we also got to enjoy watching the chef prepare our meal.
I have to admit that our favorite restaurant was Sahlo. The entire experience was simply amazing. Everything from the the decor and music all played with and meshed with sensual theme of the evening. The menu had something for everyone, and the food. Oh the food! I don't even know how to put it into words other than it is a must! Everything was excellent.

We spent most of our mornings and early afternoons just lounging and relaxing at the pool. The pool is surrounded with loungers, beds and chairs. Every morning, Danny promptly assigns you your bed or chairs and brings over towels and pillows. No need to rush over to put belongings on beds or be at the pool before sunrise to get a chair.

Although the pool is not huge it is generally heated at a nice temperature and there is more than enough room to have a swim, a plunge or just float around. The swim up bar is fantastic. It is always well stocked and the bar tender is always ready to make you a special drink.

As the sun starts to get lower in the sky, and the temperature gets a little cooler, guests slowly start making their way up to the hot tub where the party gets started for the evening. This is where things get a little more risqué, but still lots of fun. The swim-up bar at the hot tub is always well stocked and plenty busy.
For those who wish to enjoy the hot tub but are not as comfortable with overt expression of the "lifestyle" or want to have quite, private, intimate time in the hot tub; we would recommend going earlier in the afternoon or in the early evening.
The hot tub area also has a number of beds and lounging areas for those who wish to have some intimate moments or just want to relax.

In the evenings is when the party really gets going started. With various themed nights and activities taking place by the lobby and then at the disco. There is not a shortage of night time fun. And trust me when I say that the party keeps going well into the night and many times until sunrise.

For us the real gem of the resort is their staff. I must commend all the staff for their prompt attention to their guest and their utmost professionalism and discretion. Patty, Leo, Luis, Ivan, Danny, Arianna, Kayla and Sylvia and list goes on and on. They are all simply amazing. The restaurant and bar staff are all very attentive to their guest, making sure that drinks were plenty and nothing was ever missing.
A shout also goes to all the staff behind the scenes; maintenance, housekeeping, groundskeepers and kitchen personnel. They all work tirelessly to ensure that the resort looks amazing and everything happens without a hitch.

Would we recommend this resort? Absolutely! If you are looking for some romantic, sexually charged time to reconnect and rediscover your partner this is definitely the place to go. We will surely return in the future. [Details]

Love this hotel. Beautiful and comfortable surroundings, good food, great service for the most part. The only issue we encountered with service was with dining in the evenings. We had a party of 8 and had difficulty getting seated together and frequently had to argue with staff to even get tables put together for us, which after we got tired of arguing, we just did it ourselves. We could not understand with the money our group of 8 was contributing to the hotel, why it was such a problem to pull 2 tables of 4 together instead of serving us separately. Serving 2 tables of 4 is the same as serving 1 table of 8. Once we brought management into it though, the problem seemed to be resolved...but there should not have been a problem in the first place.
