This was a very family-friendly resort. Food was good but need to have some gluten-free options. Lots to do for the kids. Our grand kids were 8 and 10 and they had so much fun. [Details]

The strong points
Never an issue getting a towel. Friendly staff and they worked very hard.
The weak points
The resort is very dated but clean. Kids play equipment all need to be removed and replaced. They need more gluten free items. Don't stay in the jungle view room unless you want to be separate from the main resort. Go early for the Al a carts

AMResorts Sunscape Akumal resort is a fabulous vacation destination. We enjoyed amazing food, entertainment, water sports (included) extremely comfortable, large rooms & excellent service from a most friendly, helpful staff. All the restaurants were excellent. Loved the salmon & steak at the Olive Branch. Great special coffees at the Coco Cafe just to name a few. [Details]

The strong points
The nightly, live entertainment each evening was excellent too - especially out at Sharky's bar on the beach.
The weak points
The clientele was occasionally loud & disruptive but nothing to do with the hotel. (Too many drunks at the swim up bar)

3.5* At Best

The "upgraded" accomodations were nothing more than a 3 star resort, OCEAN FRONT Jr Suite, the ocean was beautiful and the staff worked very hard to keep the beach free of seaweed, and beer bottles.
I have included a photo of the room that apeared on the website and a photo of our room. Not even close. No photo from web as it is blocked to copy
The bathroom ( very good size) had very poor lighting so it was always dark, difficult to use vanity mirror due to lighting, also the switches are in awkward spots , the barn glass door is a bit werid but served the purpose, the toilet is in the shower area, STUPID, Made it difficult for any wanted privacy using the toilet or shower.
The walls in shower/toilet area are literally falling apart. Eveyday you would see a pile of broken down pieces on the floor. Use of the shower always completely soaked the entire area so do not leave clothes or towels on the floor. We did have plenty of soap, shampoo etc.
The bed was huge and comfortable. Not sure how often the little decorative pillows and end coverlette get washed though so best not to use either, Ours ended up on the floor every night so I would guess this happens regularly.
The tablet supplied for room service etc sometimes worked, sometimes not, best just to call.
Mini fridge, had lots of Pop but only 2 beer a day so if you don't drink your beer, take it out and hide it then you will get 2 more. lol You can call for extra beer but they made it difficult to honour the request. Note we were Sun Club so this should not have been an issue.
The room came with an espresso machine, we drink coffee so although for some this would be nice it was not for us. We requested a coffee machine and we were told that it was impossible, however after day 4 one magically appeared in the room but it took 2 more days to get the coffee for it. Room service coffee service was exceptional and so was the coffee.
Jacuzzi! NO THANK YOU, the one we had looked like something from a 1970's movie, and had numerous ants or gnats or something crawling around in it everyday. It was old and antiquated and lost it's lustre years ago. We did not use it, they should just remove these ugly has been units and include a nice sofa and seating as we only had 1 chair other than our little dinette ones.
The shear curtains had rust stains across the top the entire width of the room, our lock (photo attached) was broken , it did lock but you sure did not feel safe.
Deck/Patio Boards broken and lifted, very worn and out dated. Crumbling stucco and caulk. The Bali bed was holding on for dear life. We could not use it to assist getting down as it wobbled do much we thought it was going to tumble. I expect it may die with the next storm.
We had a slattering of bird poop on our Bali Bed top sheet (which was torn all around, pic attached) on day 3. For 3 days I personally requested that this get changed out so we could enjoy the ocean from the bed. After day 3 I literally removed the top sheet and walked it down to the Sun Club office and handed it to the man working there and asked AGAIN to please have it switched out. It was replaced that night.
The sheer curtains on the Bali bed were shredded, pic attached
The only thing that kept us from requesting another room was the ocean view which is what we went there for, The rest of the room was very disappointing especially when you pay for upgraded accomodations.
I have included a photo of a butter container outside our room in the hall, it was there when we arrived and was there when we left so if you are wondering about cleanliness this should answer any questions.
The grounds were nice and I think will be nicer as the economy picks up and there is more money available for them. The poor guys picking of the seaweed worked hard everyday to ensure that the beach was beautiful.
If you are looking to get drunk you will have to make several trips to the bar, Unless you are Sunclub where they serve the good stuff and coors lite but you have to ask for it.
You can grab a cab to Tulum or PDC for 40.00 USD or walk out to the road and grab a taxi bus ( every 5 mins or so) for 45 Pesos. It will take you there and bring you back.
Ocean Gorgeous, Food for us Above Average, Staff were pleasant for the most part. We will never return. [Details]

The strong points
Sun Club upgrade grants access to a la carte with no reserve, food was above average, never left hungry. Windows buffet left a lot to be desired, only went once and that was enough. However probably good if you have small kids
Sanitary measures
Hard to really say. We had to wear masks in the restaurants (no problem) but everyone used the same salt and pepper, toasters, serving utensils etc, so well you be the judge. :)

Another wonderful stay!

This was my third time at this resort (previously Grand Oasis) and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I availed of the ‘Sun Club' upgrade which was a nice touch to our booking. The staff were wonderful and the food at each restaurant was very good. We had an oceanfront bedroom that yielded a stunning view every day. We stayed by the infinity pools which was quiet, clean and was steps to the beach if we wanted to swim there.
It's a small resort so you get to know the staff quickly, gives you a ‘home from home' feeling with a tropical twist.
Upgrade available that yielded an elevated experience. Staff were flawless; Food was excellent; Room service was excellent; Pools and grounds were lovely; Beach was magical and the snorkeling was fantastic as the resort has a coral reef in front of it
The weak points
Long trip from the airport
Tamascal was sealed up

This was a beautiful resort, smaller than others we've been to but that just added to its loveliness. The rooms are large, very clean and modern. The staff is incredible! They go out of their way to please and are always warm and welcoming. The food was very good with several different restaurants to choose from. You could have everything from a hot dog and french fries to chicken cordon bleu and all of it was great! [Details]

The staff! They were all amazing!!!
The food was great and the drinks were exceptional! Premium brands and any cocktail you can think of.
The weak points
The beach is small and the water access is limited due to rocks / coral. But the water is beautiful!
The upgrade to the Sun Club isn't monitored begging the question...is it worth it? Little to no entertainment including music by the pool...very quiet!

This is a FAMILY resort. NOT for singles. They have the best kids programs so parents can enjoy some free time. The food was okay in my opinion, lots to choose from. Breakfast was by far the best. The beach is amazing. [Details]

Soft opening so resort was not ready 100% as a Sunscape brand and I don't think they anticipating it being so busy so service at NON buffet restaurants was extremely slow.
