Riviera Maya
Our second stay at this resort in two years. It is a nice quiet resort with a nice beach. We saw rays and small sharks in the clear water. We stayed in the adults section. Definitely worth paying for upgraded room level which gives access to the roof top lounge and plunge pools. [Details]

The strong points
Lovely rooms. Friendly helpful staff. Good restaurants. Overall a nice quiet resort with a nice beach.
The weak points
Distance from airport.
High pressure salespeople constantly in the lobby trying to sell resort stays.
Pool washrooms located on opposite side of main lobby. You have to walk through in wet swim wear to use them.

We stayed in the SIAN KA'AN MASTER SUITE for the exterior daybed, supposed privacy & supposed adults only. Our choice was based on the pictures of the room advertised by the resort. The room had no daybed outside & no sun shade so the terrasse was unusable during the day. The ventilation in our room was terribly loud & we could not sleep. The Sian Ka'an is supposed to be adults only but tours where given by the hotel staff that included children. These tours included people peeking in our room because of the tour location. Loud teenagers were also allowed in the Sian Ka'an lounge area. Only 2 restaurants available during our stay & the bar area in the Sian Ka'an closed at 5:30pm. The Sian Ka'an rep was no help in changing our room or rectifying the situation. [Details]

Our first visit to Mexico....and this resort delivered on its commitments. Good service and responsive to all our needs. Our "butler" Abraham was excellent at his job. He was able to assist with all our requests and guided us to the right people and services for a wonderful vacation. Thanks to Monica for her excellent waitressing services, Jesus, Manuel and the other bartenders for prompt and courteous service. All of the staff from towel service, room attendants and security were pleasant and very courteous. The food was really good and we had a great variety to chose from each day. The resort is under going some transitions (painting, etc.) but this did not interfere with the relaxing atmosphere. The massage and services from the Sensoria staff also met our expectations and needs. We will consider returning to this resort and recommend it to others, if the same services continue beyond the transition. A good relaxing time away from the cold weather of the north. [Details]

Overall we loved our stay at the Sian Kaan at Grand Tulum. The beach and snorkeling were amazing, the pools, the restaurants, and the staff were all top notch. The only thing that upset us was that the rooms are not what was sold to us. They were clean which was great, but they were out-dated and old. Our patio door was bolted shut, so we could not open it for fresh air in the mornings. Similar to a lower star resort, not the renovated rooms that had been shown to us when booking. [Details]

The strong points
Great beach and excellent place for snorkeling. First class restaurants with great food. We loved sitting outside at the restaurants. Very friendly staff and the hotel was kept very clean.
The weak points
Rooms need to be updated if that is what is sold in the package. Management should be honest in that and people would not be disappointed upon arrival. There should be a designated buffet for adults only, since we paid extra for an adults-only resort.
