The Yucatan Resort Playa Del Carmen

Don't let yourself fooled by the name, as this is not a resort. It's simply a hotel in Playa del Carmen, with a pool on the rooftop. There are two main areas where you can eat: the breakfast one (main/1st floor) and the lunch/dinner area on the rooftop (4th floor). Almost everything happens at the 4th floor as the area at the main floor closes at 11:00-11:30AM. There are two restaurants at the 4th floor, but only one is opened at all times, the 2nd tiny one has specific days when is opened and you have to reserve in advance for it. It's not really special in any regard, is there just for them to say they have three restaurants in total. There is no buffet, but if you have an all-inclusive package you can order as much as you want from their menu. The menu lacks diversity as after 2-3 days you almost know it by heart. The portions are decent and the food is ok, but nothing to impress. Same for the bar, standard drinks & cocktails. There is not enough shade on the rooftop and you will have to rely on the shade near the bar and a handful of umbrellas. As this is not a beachfront resort, you will have to walk around 10min to get there. No area at the beach is dedicated to this hotel and consequently you will have to pay extra ($$) day passes to other facilities renting chairs and umbrellas. Or sit in the sun, if that's ok with you. The activities are only during the weekends and consist in listening to bands or DJ music on the rooftop. [Details]

My stay at The Yucatan Playa Del Carmen was fantastic, the employees are exceptional and made my stay there fantastic. The wait staff go out of their way to ensure your dinning experience is outstanding and they are very friendly and enjoy talking to their customers! Great hotel in a great location. Was impressed as soon as I arrived. The rooftop pool is amazing and the restaurants are awesome. Rooms were very nice and the venue is not too large. It's adult only. The staff were impeccable. Frank and Marisol and the rest of the staff treated me and my sisters like VIP the whole time we were there! [Details]

Would highly recommend this resort if you're looking for low key, and quiet.
The food was beyond the best we've ever had at an all inclusive. (Sushi and tapas pool side!) and the bar staff was incredibly attentive.
Wifi was great, and still able to work (just a little. Lol)
Beach less than 5 min walk, and went to Mamitas Beach Club and was about $5 for two chairs and umbrella for the day.
Walk out into 5th avenue for lots of bars, reatutants, and shopping.
