Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya

Secret resorts are consistently good. They have standards on quality and we haven't disappointed in any of the 3 Secrets we have visited. Akumel service and food are very good. Top it off with a beach that you can walk out and snorkel and will see turtles and an array of fish. The resort is large with lots of vegetation and it's easy to get lost. [Details]

Staff is very friendly and hard working. Food is good. Beach is beautiful and there are lots of places to snorkel. One note - don't swim to tourist area with turtles, there are plenty of turtles outside of that area and guides will ask you to swim through them or leave. Note you can't wear fins for swimming to avoid coral damage, you can get a free lifejacket at aquatic club on the hotel territory near pools. Also ask where is the protected area for turtles to avoid disturbing them there.
Entertainment is pretty cool, but if you're an early bird and go to sleep early, you may have a bit of a problem with music. There is a lot to do at the hotel, there are pineapple and coconut cocktails, pizzas, outdoor shows, etc, etc. [Details]

The staff are polite, professional and happy to be there. They are what made the experience so memorable. The Mexican cuisine is the best of all the food. I usually skip the buffets, but this one is tops. We ate there 3 times. Don't skip breakfast room service. Its such a treat with many options [Details]

I just returned from Secrets Akumal and it was amazing. I went on this trip with my best friend mainly because we wanted to snorkel with the turtles, which was amazing. The grounds are beautiful, the staff is friendly and gets to know you. Was an overall unbelievable experience. Already looking to return. [Details]

My husband and I travel a lot. I was hesitant to go to Mexico because my last visit left me feeling really neutral about Mexico. Nothing was really memorable. I am thrilled to report that our experience at Secrets Akumal was nothing short of magical! I honestly can't say anything negative about this experience. Right from the moment we got out of our taxi and entered the lobby we were made to feel welcome with wet towels and champagne. The check in was efficient, warm and friendly. Our room was upgraded immediately without even asking and what a beautiful room it was! So clean! The staff in every single department were amazing. Each one made an effort to see how our trip was going and I felt they were truly sincere when they inquired. Every lounge chair was in perfect condition with a nice clean cushion on it. They had lot's of umbrellas by the beach and always tons of towels available. The beach service was constant and included delivering food as well as drinks. I never once heard the word "no!" I was treated to a romantic breakfast delivered to our room complete with the concierge who set it up on our balcony. Completely blew me away! I never had a meal I didn't like. The Japanese restaurant was both entertaining and good. Huge portions! The entertainment team were great. They worked from sun up to sun down to insure everyone who wanted to participate did. This is a fairly new resort from the Secrets chain. The staff was very nice. Food was really good, especially for my wife who has celiac disease. All restaurants on the the resort had many gluten-free items to choose from.

On the down side, we were asked to participate to a resort presentation which is a marketing stunt where they take 90 minutes of your time the day after you check-in (you have to sign-up for it). They basically try to sell you a timeshare.

If you don't want to be bothered, don't sign-up for that. They put a lot of pressure on you. The only good thing coming out of it is after your 90 minutes, they give you a 200$ voucher for the spa as well as a 3 days 2 nights stay at a much cheaper price.

Also, we didn't like the toilet in terms of privacy. There's only a frosted glass door and you can hear everything.

Our overall experience was very pleasant and we hope to go again (Secrets Akumal or any other Secrets).

What a fabulous week at an incredible resort! We were unsure how smooth things would be since the resort had only been open just over a month when we arrived. We were not disappointed! The resort was beautiful, the staff took care of our every need and were always happy, the food was delicious, pools were all heated (even our swim out pool from our room), the beach area was beautiful!
