Rough start but great stay.
We arrived at the hotel a little after 10pm Wednesday Feb 19th. Upon check in we were informed we got a ground floor which I had specifically requested not to be on. As soon as I opened the door to our room, the stench of musk and mold was so strong and the room was so damp. We brought in our things and started to look around and within seconds of looking in the bathroom found a cockroach. I got all of our belongings out into the hallway and my husband went up to the front desk to tell them we would not be staying in that room. They moved us to the third floor and again within minutes found another cockroach and the AC didn't work and was humming extremely loud. Went down to the desk again they told us they had no more rooms and would move us the next day. They said they would spray the room for bugs but we had to be out for an hour. So it's now almost midnight when they come, luckily we were travelling with my mom who had her own room so my kids were able to sleep there for the night as everyone was already exhausted from our long travel day. My husband and I were finally able to enter our room at 130am. Sleep wasn't great as it was hot in there. The next day we got moved to the 5th floor. The room still had a damp feel to it but was much better then the others and the view was beautiful. The rest of our vacation was fantastic. Deandre (spelling?) at the swim up bar was absolutely incredible and made our trip that much more great. Whenever he spotted us he would yell out and say hi, always made a point to come check on us when he was out cleaning up cups and such. He was an amazing person and made the best blue Hawaiian drinks. The beach was beautiful down by the nude beach. I found it better down there as there was more shade for the kids. The food was good however on our last two days the lunch buffet was moved to the round restaurant and I found the selections over there to be lacking and disappointing. My son and nephew (aged 7 and 8) wanted to try the kids club on one of our couple last days there, I was apprehensive but I had been seeing the people who run that group all week and how great they were with the kids, so we put them in for a couple hours in the afternoon and absolutely loved it. They wanted to go again the next day this time for the whole day. I can't speak lore highly of the girls who run that club. They were amazing. We had 3 a la cartes. The first being at the knife. I ordered my steak medium well and it was more like medium rare. It was fine I ate it. Our second was at the Italian restaurant and let me say this, I am still thinking about my meal. It was excellent. The service was great, the view so pretty and the food SO SO GOOD. Wish we would have booked there twice. Our third dinner was again at the knife. I again ordered medium well and this time it came out so rare. It's my fault I didn't say anything I didn't want to send my food back so I just didn't eat it. It was a pretty disappointing meal as my husbands steak was also pretty purple. Overall we had a really good time. It was our third time here and our kids first time. The staff are seriously amazing for the most part. You do get some who aren't to thrilled to be working but that's anywhere. I think the resort could use some extra caution in regards to how slippery it gets when wet. The bridges over the pool and the tile by the buffet are dangerous. I seen multiple people slip and I can't count how many times I almost fell coming off the bridge (even being cautious because I knew how slippery it was) The entertainment was great. They always had stuff going on. If you want a good seat by the pool you need to go before breakfast and save your seat because by the time you come out, they are all gone. I never had any problems finding chairs on the beach but like I said, further down. The hotel could definitely use some updating, it's pretty dated. And there were times I saw more cockroaches in the hallways. Overall, we really enjoyed our trip. I would bring my kids back here again. Just really hoping they do more about those cockroaches and the dampness of the rooms.
