It's a disappointment. Sunset at the Palms shows 4.5 star reviews but this is 2 or 2.5 star resort the most. Don't expect much. Food in a restaurant - no selection, no ham, salami, no lemon, no lime, ….poor selection of food, some fruits but not looking good. Italian night had not have enough spaghetti or tomato sauce. Will not go back, and I think this is my last time to go to Jamaica. Beach is nice but small and not for swimming or snorkeling, just for floating in a 4ft deep water the max. Towels were not changed every day in a room. [Details]

Great coffee. Lotus leaf restaurant was ok.
The weak points
Noisy road. No lemons or limes. Need overall maintenance.
Slow, unprofessional service at the resort.
At the coffee bar they put fingers in our cups, so we asked them to give us a new coups, which they did but, is this the 4.5 star service?

The pictures do not lie this resort is in a nature setting with tree frogs and birds setting you up for relaxing stay in your very own tree house. No concrete jungle here. The food is very good, awesome breakfast shout out to Fitzroy and all the staff Sherline and Brittany are truly special people. Specialty dinners are delicious and the blue mountain coffee and rum cream is simply the best you can get. The beach is across the road. 3m walk with a crossing guard for your safety. The beach bar the washrooms and the food at the beach is great, such a great vibe at the beach. This place is about relaxing and appreciating what life is all about so if you decide to go to satp be respectful and keep this place our secret. [Details]

Absolutely Wonderful Resort!
Claire B, Cochrane, AB
2024-02-28
We spent our honeymoon here and it was everything that we had hoped for - romantic, adult-only, boutique experience. The individual cabins nestled in the botanical gardens were very private, and we enjoyed sitting on our deck in the early mornings when the birds would come and visit. The food was excellent and we highly recommend the Chef's Showcase, under the stars. The ambience of the restaurants was delightful and the staff were all genuinely friendly and made us feel very welcome and taken care of, from the moment we arrived to the time the moment we left. A Lovely Stay at SATP!
Christine Mieczkowski, Mississauga, ON
2024-01-21
My husband and I loved our stay at SATP. The grounds are breathtakingly beautiful - very lush, tropical and serene. The treehouse-style accommodations were amazing - it will be tough to go back to staying in a regular hotel! Beach was a short 5 minute walk away, and did not disappoint. Plenty of shady spots and straw umbrellas available to protect from direct sun. The service and hospitality at the resort are unmatched - the kindest and friendliest staff we have ever encountered in our travels. Being a “foodie”, I would rate the food overall as a 7. You definitely won't go hungry and the quality is fine, just no stand out dishes. The jerk chicken served was consistently bone dry and barely edible. [Details]

Amazing resort with something for everyone
Joshua Foster, Ajax, ON

My girlfriend and I stayed here and it was amazing. The food was extraordinary, the events were great, the excursions were awesome. I'd recommend this to anyone that wants to get away from the hotel-style resorts that look like every resort that have ever happened. This place is unique, with multiple bars and places to eat and drink. The staff are great and helpful. [Details]

Our Stay at Sunset
Bill & Cheryl, Toronto, ON
2022-12-01
We enjoyed and chose our week at Sunset because it was Adult only and a smaller resort. The treetop accommodations were a nice change but held in the humidity because of the beautiful lush surroundings. The beach/water was beautiful and great for swimming and cooling off. The food was good but we were very disappointed with the lack of "authentic" jerk (as they call it) and local reggae music and there was no jamaican patties! The evening entertainment can be improved, more reggae bands would be welcomed. There was no dancing, just the piano bar was open and could be a little quiet and at times boring. We did enjoy Paul's entertainment but again we weren't there to hear "our" music, we wanted to experience the many stars of reggae. [Details]

The staff was fantastic. Charlene at the bar & Jason at the buffet were always smiling and friendly. We were always greeted by Venessa at breakfast & lunch with a welcoming smile & conversation. The beach crew, Kevon, Romelle & Jovaine were amazing.
The weak points
Not enough storage in room for clothing. Lack of authentic local jamaican food and music and evening entertainment. Also, there was no daily activities offered at the pool area.

Andirine always ensured our room was kept in order and clean when we returned - loved her animal characters she made from towels.

This is a beautiful resort that has seen better days. The rooms are lovely tree houses, set in a tropical garden. The beach is clean and well kept. Where this place fails in general maintenance. Most of the main buildings are in disrepair. All of this aside, it is a calm, welcoming place of refuge. [Details]

Best resort by far
Andrews lagoon, Sarnia, ON
2022-09-18
I have to say this resort was great, best relaxing vacation we have ever had, and we travel frequently.
The food was amazing, the chef really was so helpful for a very picky eater, and the pork Wellington was the best meal I have ever eaten!!
Swim up bar service by Linton and Gerald was excellent, we even had everyone drinking our Sunset Dreams drink!!
The resort was beautiful and the gardeners really do keep it well kept. We spent our 10th wedding anniversary at Sunset at the Palms and are definitely going back. The quietness of the resort was what we were after, and it definitely delivered. I loved the cabin style rooms and large walk in showers.
As we were just relaxing one evening waiting on our table for dinner, a worker walking by stopped and asked us how our vacation was going and actually listened to us, she didn't hurry away and even bid us a great evening when our table was ready. The kindness from that worker, really made this resort top notch. That wasn't a one off, the whole stay the staff was asking how our vacation was going and even offered to get us potato chips after the store closed The only thing I would add to this resort, is get rid of the smoking area (picnic table) and put a fire pit or a fire table, the ambiance at night while listening to the reggae band and sitting around a fire with friends listening to the music and the sounds of the night, would have been a dream.
The lady at the front gate was so nice, she will be missed by us. I could go on and on about this resort! [Details]

Disappointing stay
Drema Mac, Toronto, ON
2021-12-11
I honestly don't know where to begin and this will likely be long and still not cover everything. After wanting to visit Sunset at the Palms for 8 years, we finally booked it for our first trip post-COVID. We were looking for something special, a smaller place and a more personalized experience. The overwhelmingly positive reviews on Trip Advisor and in a FB group that we joined boast of a place that feels like home, where everyone knows your name, where you will be taken care of. Unfortunately this was not the case for us. Not even close, and we feel strongly that we did not get the experience that we expected based on the level of service we received and we what we paid for this stay. We are good tippers who tip along the way, and even this did not help, so believe me, it wasn't that.
We travel a few times a year to all different kinds of resorts and hotels, big and small and mostly in the Caribbean. This was our 4th trip to Jamaica, so we are familiar with the vibe and pace and we have always enjoyed ourselves there.
This hotel was probably one of the most frustrating places I have ever stayed. Especially for a place with dedicated concierges that make all kinds of promises but don't deliver. “We will do this, and we will do that” No they won't. I did not get the worry free week that I expected and paid for, instead it was one thing after another.
If you have never been here before, you are going to feel very lost. They give you a verbal orientation and a piece of paper with some suggested meal times and that's it. The rest you learn as you go. There should be a booklet in room with all the listed amenities and times, with extension numbers, frequency of housekeeping, process and place to get beach towels, water bottles, etc…Instead we had to learn the hard way, that no one was coming to clean our room, that no one was going to put water in our fridge that didn't work and that we had to ask to be fixes 3 times before anything was done.
The day after we arrived it was my birthday and we visited the concierge to see if we could book a couples massage. He said they were fully booked which was understandable with such short notice. However not 30 minutes later we were on the beach and Brenda from the spa came around to try and drum up business. I told her we tried to book for that day but they were fully booked. She said who told you that then she called and made us an appointment for that afternoon. Interesting. That same morning I had also specifically asked the concierge about making reservations for the specialty restaurants. He asked me if I still had the paper he gave me and I said yes, and he said all the times were there. I said, so no reservations? And he said no. So a few days later off we went to line up for the Lotus only to find out we don't have a reservation and we need one. Interesting. I immediately went to see that same concierge and after waiting for a half hour it seems he pulled some strings and was able to get us in. Thankfully, because I was on the verge of pitiful tears because I was just so frustrated at this point. I think he must have saw that and he finally put some effort in. I will acknowledge that they tried to fix things when mistakes were made, but when it's one thing after another, it just doesn't matter anymore.
Besides this concierge who seemed to want to avoid doing anything, the main issue was poor staffing levels. The resort just did not have enough staff for a return to almost full capacity like it was the week we stayed there. Especially when there was no buffet. Meals took a minimum of 1 hour, but frequently 1.5 hours, which is understandable for seated table service. What is not acceptable though is to be seated and then not have someone come to your table or even pour you a glass of water for 40 minutes or more, which happened more times than not.
Also, what was ordered was generally not received. There was always something missing. Despite being asked about dietary restrictions and promises about accommodating, I did not find this to be the case. Don't bet on it yourself if you have any “special” dietary needs. I don't eat meat, fish or seafood and basically I ate a lot of sides for dinner which were all delicious. The few times I asked specifically for a vegetarian meal, each time I got stir fried cabbage and carrots. I didn't starve but I did eat a lot of bread and cheese to accompany my big salads and rice and beans. For breakfast and the beach grill there are rotating menus that change once a week, I think it was on Sunday. Unfortunately for me, the first breakfast menu that I only had for 2 days had more options for me. The breakfast menu for the rest of my week left me eating bread and cheese and fruit every morning. It would be better if they rotated the menus every 2 or 3 days so it didn't seem so repetitive.
I would like to point out though that the food service staff worked so hard, they were running around constantly, but there just were not enough of them to make any meaningful difference to the user experience. They were fighting a losing battle, running around with beads of sweat on their foreheads trying to keep up. I felt really bad for them and I felt bad for us and all the other frustrated guests there.
4 days in we emailed our travel agent who contacted hotel management. With 2.5 days left on our trip the general manager asked to speak with us. She was very nice and listened to our concerns and she acknowledged that there were not enough staff. Said that they lost a lot of staff over Covid and were currently In the hiring process. Well this wasn't going to help us but she did say though that the rest of our trip (a whole 2.5 days!) would make us want to come back. Empty promises anyway, because nothing changed and she did nothing for us, so I would love to know what she was referring to. Our last full day was spent trying to avoid the front desk, to not ask for anything and to do everything ourselves to avoid more disappointment. We gave up on housekeeping halfway through the trip and just made sure we had enough water bottles refilled at the beach bar before going to back to our room.
We loved the beautiful beach with lots of shade and space for everyone. The accommodations were very cool and unique. I just adored the cabins, their cozy balconies and all of the open air main areas and the beautiful grounds. I am disappointed though that I will never know what this resort is like during “normal” circumstances because we won't be back, [Details]

What a wonderful resort. All the staff were friendly and helpful. We loved the "treehouse" like accommodations and the magnificent gardens which were a joy to walk through every day. The food was delicious and the different theme nights for dinner ensured there was a variety of meals. There was also excellent entertainment to finish off your evenings. The beach was fabulous - clear, warm water with a sandy bottom. Everything you needed was at the beach so you could spend the entire day there. The layout was perfect so you were never on top of other guests. We will definitely return to Sunset at The Palms. [Details]

We went for our 10th Anniversary... for the quiet and intimate experience this resort was perfect. However, being surrounded by nature and forestry feel, there were lots of insects and Miskitos to bare with. Even though the beach wasn't a long walk, we had to cross the road to get to the beach, beach itself was very beautiful, and secure for resort people only. I wasn't too happy that they close the beach at 6-7 pm. However they had to pool open till 1pm to make up for it. And also, there isn't much to do at the resort. But that could be peaceful for some folks. We enjoyed our company so we weren't bothered by that much. 5 days is good enough ! Thank you [Details]

Sunset at the Palms is a small adults only resort that provides a quiet environment, excellent accommodation ant the friendliest staff we have encountered in fifty years of travelling. The staff are dedicated to ensuring that your vacation is problem free and in resolving any issues that detract from the experience. The resort is fairly small by today's standards (Only 65 rooms) and is characterized by the number of repeat visitors (over one third of the guests were repeats - many of them on their third or fourth visit). Even though this hotel is rated 4* it is by no means accurate. The resort is incredible. No there are not tons of restaurants or pools but if you are looking for a quiet relaxing vacation then this is for you. I can't say enough good things about the staff. They are all so friendly. Every staff member would stop to make sure your vacation was going well & that you were enjoying yourself. I heard various staff members say that the resort was like a big family & you were definitely treated like it. Even all the guests would chat with each other. Food was very good. Always good selection at the buffet. The Chef's table was a 5 course meal offered 3 times a week. You get an invitation to go once & it is worth it. The Lotus Leaf restaurant was also very good. The beef filet was so tender. The beach is gorgeous with crystal clear calm water. It's across the street but there is a crossing guard to help you get across & you let the security guard know you are going. The resort has it's own area on the beach with bar, grill, washrooms & water sports. Rooms are cabins on stilts in the jungle. Very unique. Lots of room & you have a porch to relax on. Only drawback was no door to the washroom. Don't hesitate to give this resort a try. You won't be disappointed. [Details]

Lovely resort in Negril
The Howlett's, 416, ON
2013-07-09
We chose the Sunset based on the recommendation from a friend and we loved it. It is a small resort so there is none of the hustle and bustle you get at the large resorts. You do not have to worry about getting a chaise lounge on the beach or deal with long line ups at the buffet or beach grill.
Staff were very friendly and helpful with the exception of reception who seemed annoyed with everyone and any request.
In terms of food we stuck with the buffet. We went to the a la carte on our first night and found the food mediocre so stuck with the buffet for all of our dinners and the beach grill for all of our lunches. The jerk chicken on the beach is a must try. The beach itself is fabulous, soft sand and beautiful clear water that is not very deep. No seaweed to speak off.
The rooms are lovely and comfortable And we loved the porch area. Bathroom amenities are basic and there was a room safe.
Since it is a jungle-like setting it is best to bring bug spray for the evening meals since the buffet is an open air setting. I regretted not having bug spray since I got quite a few bites on my legs.
If you go shopping I recommend going to Jamm Rock which is a great small store next to the Time Square mall and a few minutes cab ride from the hotel. Chris the owner is great and his prices are much better than what you'll get at any of the stores at Times Square. Important to note there is no ATM on the resort so bring your cash. The closet ATM is off the resort and a bit sketchy.
We did not go on any excursions except the bus trip to Rick's cafe - it was okay and the shopping stops on the way were just okay. Ricks is crazy busy, drinks are expensive and a bit tacky.
We would definitely go back and enjoyed our stay. [Details]

June 2024 holiday
Sunset at the Palms shows 4.5 star reviews but this is 2 or 2.5 star resort the most. Don't expect much.
Food in a restaurant - no selection, no ham, salami, no lemon, no lime, ….poor selection of food, some fruits but not looking good. Italian night had not have enough spaghetti or tomato sauce.
Will not go back, and I think this is my last time to go to Jamaica.
Beach is nice but small and not for swimming or snorkeling, just for floating in a 4ft deep water the max.
Towels were not changed every day in a room. [Details]
One of a kind resort
A Lovely Stay at SATP!
Amazing resort with something for everyone
Our Stay at Sunset
Slightly Shabby Shang ri la
Best resort by far
That wasn't a one off, the whole stay the staff was asking how our vacation was going and even offered to get us potato chips after the store closed
The only thing I would add to this resort, is get rid of the smoking area (picnic table) and put a fire pit or a fire table, the ambiance at night while listening to the reggae band and sitting around a fire with friends listening to the music and the sounds of the night, would have been a dream.
The lady at the front gate was so nice, she will be missed by us. I could go on and on about this resort! [Details]
Disappointing stay

Great Spot!
Sunset at the Palms
Hidden Gem
[Details]
Fantastic

Nice beach
Sunset at the Palms Resort
Awesome Place
Very poor value
Lovely resort in Negril
Staff were very friendly and helpful with the exception of reception who seemed annoyed with everyone and any request.
In terms of food we stuck with the buffet. We went to the a la carte on our first night and found the food mediocre so stuck with the buffet for all of our dinners and the beach grill for all of our lunches. The jerk chicken on the beach is a must try. The beach itself is fabulous, soft sand and beautiful clear water that is not very deep. No seaweed to speak off.
The rooms are lovely and comfortable And we loved the porch area. Bathroom amenities are basic and there was a room safe.
