Spent 8 days in this beautiful place with another couple, who agreed with us that this vacation was almost perfect. Were in Preferred Club with swim-up, with pools and the beach very close by. The beach, which is really, really superb, was a bit windy during our entire stay but still very pleasant. Disappointed with our swim-up since it wasn't as private as swim-outs we are used to. The 2 lounge chairs on our small patio disappeared on the night of our arrival so we had to wake up early and try to find available chairs at the pool or the beach. The reason we chose a swim-up was to avoid this situation. The rule about not putting personnal stuff on chairs before 8 o'clock is not respected. Unfortunately some people reserve chairs at the beach and pool but don't use them. [Details]

Amount of umbrellas by the pool is very sad. To be honest this level of the resort should afford umbrellas for every 2 sun beds.
They should not allow holding spots on the beach and pools with towels for entire day. They were taken by 7 am!

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we felt like family! I had a drink in my hand 10 minutes after walking in the door! That's service! Every staff member we came into contact with were friendly and went above and beyond to make sure you had what you needed. We tried all restaurants except the Hibachi - and the food was great at all of them. We liked Blue Water Grill the best! The steak was delicious. Second was the french restaurant. A few days the beach had seaweed but the crews did a great job to clean it up. Drinks were plentiful! Some were stronger than others but never felt they were watered down. We had a few different brands of beer, including Coors Light! We were glad we brought Yeti's. [Details]

Wonderful trip! The resort was beautiful, the food and restaurants as well as the service was excellent! Everyone was very friendly! The resort and the grounds were immaculate and the room was very nice, clean and well appointed! However, we did not like the “preferred” upgrade that was offered as soon as we arrived. We decided not to take it as it was very expensive and we felt that we were being taken advantage of. In addition, if you didn't get up before 7 a.m. you could not get a parasol at the beach or at the pool there just wasn't enough and So it was a mad dash at 6:00 am every morning! Here is a short honest review of SRB
We were 2 couples ages 44-52. We were there 11 days, Feb 15th - Feb 26th. We have been to many different resorts in both the DR and Jamaica. This was our second stay in the DR at a Secrets.
Room 8/10
When we booked, we selected the "Run of the House" deal. Which meant we ended up with one of the worst rooms in the resort view wise. From our balcony we had a view of a falling down building, garbage, smoking area and parking lot of the resort next door. This didn't bother us in the least as we only go to the room to rest or sleep. Room was well appointed and clean.
Grounds 8/10 Overall, this resort is neat, clean and well kept. Beach area is cleaned multiple time a day.
Pool Area 7/10 Same as grounds, clean and well kept. Chair game was terrible for most of our stay. Be prepared to be out by no later than 7am to save a chair at the pool or beach... Beds around the quite pool I'd guess they were all gone by 6am
Service - Pool Area 2/10 Breaking this up a little as it isn't fair to lump service all into one group Servers at the pool are very pleasant, but they are few and far between. Many times a day you could look over the main pool area and there were no servers to be seen. Resort needs to add staff
Service - Buffet 9.5/10 Excellent service for the most part. Had a few mornings where we were forgotten about (No Coffee). But really... that was no biggie, just had to wave them down.
Service - A la Carts 9/10 Overall, pleased with the service. we did have a few hiccups in a few restaurants that made us uncomfortable (bringing us our 1st and 2nd courses at the same time. So we ended up with two plates in front of us all.... was terrible)
Drinks - resort wide 2/10 The drinks are TERRIBLE!!! Watered down to the point of little to no liquor in a drink, most drinks tasted like drink mix. If at home I drink 2 or 3 margaritas I feel it. I drank 9 one afternoon and nothing at all. This was our and most everyone we spoke to in the resort. They did have Budweiser beer at the Show Time bar which was a plus.
Food - Buffet 8/10 We always found something we liked at breakfast or lunch. Some food was a little "cafeteria" tasting. But overall we were happy with the buffet.
Food - Room service 9/10 Always hot and good tasting. After 10:30 is it limited menu, but it was some of better meals.
Food - A la carte (Excluding Steakhouse) 2/10 Food was often cold and tasteless. We were so looking forward to going back to the French restaurant... 2 seating's there, both were terrible. Sent Steak back both times for being cold. Mexican... same issues. Fajitas were a joke, no veggies, Chicken and beef both served cool... almost cold. Japanese... Extremely loud because of the shows (3 at the same time) going on. Food was... ok but not great Olio restaurant... They actually brought us our first and second course at the same time. So at a 4 person table we had 8 plates on the table all at once.... it was terrible! We didn't get half through this when they brought us our main course.
Food Steakhouse - 7/10 We had 3 seating's here. First seating was terrible, Steak was a terrible cut and cold. The starter was a flouring onion (Blooming Onion), and it was cold and soggy. Second and third seating's were very good. Everything was hot and quite tasty.
Nightly Shows - 5/10 We really only like the second rock show. It was very hard to understand what the singers were saying even though we knew most of the songs. Half of the shows I would say 30-40% of the people got up and left midway through the show. They need to change it up.
Entertainment Pool area 1/10 Actually very little going on. No pool volleyball. No party's.. really very limited. I have no idea what the "Entertainment team" did really. There was a little stage show later in the afternoon. Usually not very good.
High Point of our stay We were trying to order a few drinks in the Main lobby bar.... there was a little confusion on what we were trying to order. A cleaning lady passed and understood what we were asking, so she translated to Spanish. She actually gave us a little Spanish lesson... She was a sweetheart, So friendly. Every time we saw her she would smile and give us a quick little Spanish test. I cant remember her name... but if management reads this We last saw her in the main lobby Feb25th about 11pm. Again she was a definite gem!
Low point of our stay We went to the French restaurant for supper, we were told it would be a 45min wait. That was fine... We went and had drinks, chatted with other couples. About 1 hr. later we went to check to see if we were close... "Just a few min sir" we were told, So off for a few more watered down drinks. At the 2 hr. mark, we went back again and told... we are so busy it will be a few more mins. But after looking at their list with the manager.... there were at least 15 groups that went after us but ere seated before us. 4 groups of 4 or more... all seated before us. It was absolutely terrible.
Overall we would not rate this a 5 star resort. We have been to 3 stars that we enjoyed more. We are not high end travelers, We don't expect to be waited on or pampered. But this was the most expensive resort we have booked and we expected so much more. We made the mistake of comparing it to Secrets Cap Cana.... Not even close. SCC was heaven, This resort... not so much. I actually went there with the idea of joining the AMI Vacation Club.... But I quickly decided against it. If we do choose to try another Secrets, I may join... But this would be a property I wouldn't return to.
Notable employees. Anthony at check in (Concierge) , he was very helpful. Gabriel - Waitress at the French restaurant was a star in our worst seating episode. I'm sure she was instructed to make sure we were well looked after.... nothing here was her fault, but she was a very nice server.
My husband and I loved our stay at Secrets Royal Beach. Even though the weather was unusually rainy, we kept busy and were very entertained by the friendly staff.
'Spaghetti' and 'Mike Tyson' were really fun/went the extra mile for us. But honestly, all the staff are absolutely wonderful/friendly.

From start to finish this resort outdid themselves! They made us feel at home and safe right away! They took care of us like their own. Everything was super clean and they had some of the best food I've ever had!! The rooms were comfy and clean and well laid out. Beds were comfy with lots of pillow choices! The hotel was incredible. We stayed on the preferred side and the amenities and attention to detail were second to none. The rooms were very nice and clean but not opulent. The staff is absolutely incredible. They were so friendly and accommodating and never had any issues. The food was better than average but not 5 star by any means. We had one terrible meal at Oceana but other than that the food with very acceptable. They also had a very nice range of additional wines that you can purchase should you want to go over the provided wines. Having been to 3 Secrets resorts in Mexico, it can only be fair that I compare Secrets Punta Cana to Silversands, Maroma and The Vine. Why? Because any other doesnt even come close. (in my experience, of course) the beach is awesome, the water not so much, lots of seaweed and the water was not clear at all. Only Maroma has a better beach. If Maroma is a perfect 10 in all categories, SliverSands and The Vine are a 9.5, I would rate Punta Cana a 7.5. Its still very good, but not as great as the others, that set the bar very high! Its in the details, the service, smiles, the food quality and taste. The lack of ability to speak english or french can be a real pain in the butt. We ordered room service once, never got the food, only a phone call 90 minutes later asking of we got our food.
Omar the manager was very attentive, he even took time to sit with us and ask for our feedback, which was great.
Will I go back to the Secrets hotels? Absolutely! My next stops will be at Huatulco and Los Cabos :-) [Details]

This resort is fantastic for any couple that wants to get away for a romantic week together. The resort is beautiful, the rooms are big and the restaurants serve very high quality food. The problems we had with this resort was that the beaches were covered in seaweed and the house keeping was terrible. We would leave the room in the morning and head to the beach. by the time we got back to the room in the evening we would expect the room to be cleaned but it was still the same mess from the morning. We actually had to call every day for the maid service to come clean our room. Which was strange because we could always see them going through rooms on our floor but then everyday they would semmingly forget our room. this created and major inconvenience because we had to wait for them to clean the room when we were trying to get back into it on most days. The food was amazing, there were soo many a la carte restaurants that you could visit a different one almost every night and the wait wasn't bad at all. I think the longest I had to wait was 30 mins. The rooms and resort were also amazing.

We loved this hotel. Very quiet, which we wanted. The lazy river type pool was very nice. The waiter service around the pool was especially nice. The staff was always pleasant and very helpful. I rated the beach a 4 only because of the seaweed. The food was amazing and we actually ate at the buffet most nights. Using the Now Larimar next door for some restaurants and the casino was not a problem, just a very short walk. We booked an oceanview room and had a beautiful view. The room was very comfortable and quite large. This hotel is spotless everywhere. I would highly recommend this hotel. [Details]

Very quiet hotel, but if you want nightlife you just need to take a short walk next door over to the Now Larimar.

Fantastic Resort with Amazing staff
If we go back to Punta Cana, we would certainly return to this resort.

Beautiful hotel, great week!
Disappointed with our swim-up since it wasn't as private as swim-outs we are used to. The 2 lounge chairs on our small patio disappeared on the night of our arrival so we had to wake up early and try to find available chairs at the pool or the beach. The reason we chose a swim-up was to avoid this situation. The rule about not putting personnal stuff on chairs before 8 o'clock is not respected. Unfortunately some people reserve chairs at the beach and pool but don't use them. [Details]

A few days the beach had seaweed but the crews did a great job to clean it up.
Drinks were plentiful! Some were stronger than others but never felt they were watered down. We had a few different brands of beer, including Coors Light! We were glad we brought Yeti's. [Details]

Disappointing 11 days
We were 2 couples ages 44-52. We were there 11 days, Feb 15th - Feb 26th. We have been to many different resorts in both the DR and Jamaica. This was our second stay in the DR at a Secrets.
Room 8/10
When we booked, we selected the "Run of the House" deal. Which meant we ended up with one of the worst rooms in the resort view wise. From our balcony we had a view of a falling down building, garbage, smoking area and parking lot of the resort next door. This didn't bother us in the least as we only go to the room to rest or sleep. Room was well appointed and clean.
Grounds 8/10
Overall, this resort is neat, clean and well kept. Beach area is cleaned multiple time a day.
Pool Area 7/10
Same as grounds, clean and well kept. Chair game was terrible for most of our stay. Be prepared to be out by no later than 7am to save a chair at the pool or beach... Beds around the quite pool I'd guess they were all gone by 6am
Service - Pool Area 2/10
Breaking this up a little as it isn't fair to lump service all into one group
Servers at the pool are very pleasant, but they are few and far between. Many times a day you could look over the main pool area and there were no servers to be seen. Resort needs to add staff
Service - Buffet 9.5/10
Excellent service for the most part. Had a few mornings where we were forgotten about (No Coffee). But really... that was no biggie, just had to wave them down.
Service - A la Carts 9/10
Overall, pleased with the service. we did have a few hiccups in a few restaurants that made us uncomfortable (bringing us our 1st and 2nd courses at the same time. So we ended up with two plates in front of us all.... was terrible)
Drinks - resort wide 2/10
The drinks are TERRIBLE!!! Watered down to the point of little to no liquor in a drink, most drinks tasted like drink mix. If at home I drink 2 or 3 margaritas I feel it. I drank 9 one afternoon and nothing at all. This was our and most everyone we spoke to in the resort. They did have Budweiser beer at the Show Time bar which was a plus.
Food - Buffet 8/10
We always found something we liked at breakfast or lunch. Some food was a little "cafeteria" tasting. But overall we were happy with the buffet.
Food - Room service 9/10
Always hot and good tasting. After 10:30 is it limited menu, but it was some of better meals.
Food - A la carte (Excluding Steakhouse) 2/10
Food was often cold and tasteless.
We were so looking forward to going back to the French restaurant... 2 seating's there, both were terrible. Sent Steak back both times for being cold.
Mexican... same issues. Fajitas were a joke, no veggies, Chicken and beef both served cool... almost cold.
Japanese... Extremely loud because of the shows (3 at the same time) going on. Food was... ok but not great
Olio restaurant... They actually brought us our first and second course at the same time. So at a 4 person table we had 8 plates on the table all at once.... it was terrible! We didn't get half through this when they brought us our main course.
Food Steakhouse - 7/10
We had 3 seating's here. First seating was terrible, Steak was a terrible cut and cold. The starter was a flouring onion (Blooming Onion), and it was cold and soggy.
Second and third seating's were very good. Everything was hot and quite tasty.
Nightly Shows - 5/10
We really only like the second rock show. It was very hard to understand what the singers were saying even though we knew most of the songs. Half of the shows I would say 30-40% of the people got up and left midway through the show. They need to change it up.
Entertainment Pool area 1/10
Actually very little going on. No pool volleyball. No party's.. really very limited. I have no idea what the "Entertainment team" did really. There was a little stage show later in the afternoon. Usually not very good.
High Point of our stay
We were trying to order a few drinks in the Main lobby bar.... there was a little confusion on what we were trying to order. A cleaning lady passed and understood what we were asking, so she translated to Spanish. She actually gave us a little Spanish lesson... She was a sweetheart, So friendly. Every time we saw her she would smile and give us a quick little Spanish test. I cant remember her name... but if management reads this We last saw her in the main lobby Feb25th about 11pm. Again she was a definite gem!
Low point of our stay
We went to the French restaurant for supper, we were told it would be a 45min wait. That was fine... We went and had drinks, chatted with other couples. About 1 hr. later we went to check to see if we were close... "Just a few min sir" we were told, So off for a few more watered down drinks. At the 2 hr. mark, we went back again and told... we are so busy it will be a few more mins. But after looking at their list with the manager.... there were at least 15 groups that went after us but ere seated before us. 4 groups of 4 or more... all seated before us. It was absolutely terrible.
Overall we would not rate this a 5 star resort. We have been to 3 stars that we enjoyed more. We are not high end travelers, We don't expect to be waited on or pampered. But this was the most expensive resort we have booked and we expected so much more. We made the mistake of comparing it to Secrets Cap Cana.... Not even close. SCC was heaven, This resort... not so much. I actually went there with the idea of joining the AMI Vacation Club.... But I quickly decided against it. If we do choose to try another Secrets, I may join... But this would be a property I wouldn't return to.

Secrets is great!
the beach is awesome, the water not so much, lots of seaweed and the water was not clear at all. Only Maroma has a better beach.
If Maroma is a perfect 10 in all categories, SliverSands and The Vine are a 9.5, I would rate Punta Cana a 7.5. Its still very good, but not as great as the others, that set the bar very high! Its in the details, the service, smiles, the food quality and taste. The lack of ability to speak english or french can be a real pain in the butt.
We ordered room service once, never got the food, only a phone call 90 minutes later asking of we got our food.
Omar the manager was very attentive, he even took time to sit with us and ask for our feedback, which was great.
Will I go back to the Secrets hotels? Absolutely! My next stops will be at Huatulco and Los Cabos :-) [Details]
