Stay May 18-25 2024. It was kept super clean and organized and the food was of great variety. The staff was cheerful and accommodating in many ways . The only thing, you need to ensure your items in your room remain secure , I know the hotel and staff should not be judged because of possibly 1 employee who opened and removed some stuff but personal security for people and items is a major reason why we selected OBS. The food was great! Lots of a la carte restaurants to choose from. Privilege is definitely the way to go.
The weak points
It is very difficult to get a pool chair or beach chair without going at 5:45am every morning to reserve. I think it is a issue at every resort. Staff needs to enforce rules especially in privilege.

The overall cleanliness of the resort and rooms is terrible. The pool area was not cleaned and there was a lot of garbage left around. The rooms were not clean, we had a group of 4 rooms and all of them were the same in the sense that we had to clean them before getting our stuff unpacked for the week. The common areas were also mediocre for cleanliness. Often hard to find a clean table to sit at.

Room Issues:
Every time we took a shower it would flood our bathroom.
We had to call and get our safe fixed 4 times in the week we were there. The beds are HORRIBLE, really hard and very old, the sheets are like hospital sheets.

Resort Issues:
Specialty restaurants are not great, some not even good, we enjoyed the buffet more than any of the restaurants. You can't custom order in the restaurants, I mean you can but you won't get what you want. This may be mostly from the language barrier.
The communication is terrible, we got different answers for the same question and it was hard to find out what was happening at the resort as far as shows and parties.
Most of the staff acted as if we were annoying them with questions and where very dismissive.

My largest complaint is that there is NO waitstaff. At the pool or any of the lounge areas you have to go to the bar, not one person walks around taking drink orders, other than in the buffet but those might not show up. On top of this there were only ever 2 bartenders at each bar so you are constantly waiting for a drink.

The things that I liked:
The rooms are big.
The pools are huge and it was easy to find a lounge chair.

All in all, this hotel is advertised as a 5 star resort and I would be generous to give it a 3.

The biggest concern was the cleanliness of our room, the bathtub was filthy and did not look like it had been thoroughly cleaned from the last persons stay. The bathtub drain was clogged, and my husband had to try and unclog all of the hair left behind in the drain so we could even shower. The glasses in our room were dirty. I was just disappointed in the cleanliness, I would expect from even a 3 star resort to have a well cleaned room.

Moving on to the actual resort outside of the room. The resort itself is beautiful, nice walkways, architecture and scenery. The swimming pools were seemingly well kept and the swim up bars were easily accessible. I will say the glasses at the bars, we're not always cleaned and would sometimes still have a soapy residue or taste in your drink, but after enough drinks you won't really notice it anymore lol. There were a lot of lounge chairs, and maybe 10-15 umbrella spots per pool so it was relatively easy to find a shaded spot to lounge if you got up early enough to find a spot. I genuinely did enjoy the pool, it was a very relaxed vibe and not over-ally crowded minus the odd time the swim up bar was busy, but all in all decent and what I would expect.

The beach was stunning, they did a great job of keeping the majority of the washed up seaweed off of the beaches for a clean beach walkway. Although contradictory to that statement there were several cigarette buds littered amongst the seating area of the beaches. Please be aware that locals will be on the beach looking to sell you drugs, jewelry and photos. They do not accept “No” as an answer and will continue to harass you, until the next person walks by. This was my first trip, so I didn't realize this was something to expect so just be warned. The resort also allows locals to set up stalls infront if the general resort area, by the main restaurants. The same occurs there, and they are very very pushy. It made it uncomfortable for us to even walk past to go for dinner, so we decided to avoid the restaurants all together and just go to the buffet for the trip as it wasn't in the general area of these vendors.

The buffet was a solid 4/5 stars.the food was pretty good, and they had a huge variety changing out their options daily. Breakfast was by far my favourite selection! Some of the hot dishes would be cold, but with a buffet of that size I did expect that. Seating was easy to find.

Mikes coffee shop was a solid 4/5 stars for service alone they were amazing! Always friendly and knowledgeable. They have a menu listed by the front door, I only decided to dock a star as they only had 3 items in the menus available and the rest were not available for order. Otherwise it was great!

Shops were pricey as you can expect, they have two located in the main shopping area. Pack extra sunscreen & aloe unless you want to spend $70USD on some at the resort. Almost $100 Canadian for sunscreen and aloe which brought a tear to my eye. But I did expect this knowing the resort items may be over priced, again this was my first trip so this may be a normal situation.

I will say I do feel I overpaid for my stay here. I was rather disappointed in the resort and I do feel that I could've found a better resort in the same area. There were a few points where I did actually just want to go home, with the cleanliness of my room and the cockroaches in my room I truly just did not want to sleep there, if I could have requested a refund to just go home I probably would have then and there. Just speaking honestly as cleanliness is a really big thing for me especially where I sleep and bathe. Some staff were very rude, and others great depending on who you got for the day so really just like anywhere else the customer service was hit and miss.

All in all I wouldn't come back to this resort. [Details]

Hotel grounds were nice, food was tasty and beach beautiful. Now for the issues, rooms are very old and dated and we found roaches in 2 of the 3 rooms we had. Door locks are extremely old and constantly deactivating even if not near a phone etc. The towel bar almost always never had clean towels and
Even though it closed at 5pm by 4pm they told us they were out for the day. Staff at the buffet and around the grounds were never helpful and frankly acted like we should be happy they were there. At the buffet we had to find our own seating, find someone and ask for a table to be cleaned, water normally took about 20 mins to be refilled if at all, or I would have to chase someone to ask repeatedly and plates were very slowly cleared away, sometimes never throughout a meal. Waiters could not be bothered with the guests. One of my worst experiences was with the Somelier (Saveur) who treated us poorly when trying to book an a la carte, then he was very nice when he heard we booked added experiences (these are an upgraded cost) but when I didn't want to do more he was rude and dismissive, intentionally lied and when I asked for a manager he shouted at me “go find him yourself!” I told him this was part of his job and he responded “do it yourself” and waived his hand dismissively and resumed whatever he was doing. The other Somelier (Juan) was exceptional. The worse part of this trip was finding out that a friends room at the resort (and supposedly multiple in their building) had bed bugs!!! She woke up in the middle
Of the night to something biting her and was covered in bites the next morning. Disgusting and alarming since I have had to pay to get everything cleaned since getting back because I'm terrified. I travel 3-4 times a year, and have been to several all inclusive, this was the worst experience of my life and I was embarrassed for booking such a horrible resort. There was 21 of us celebrating a 65th birthday but there was not much celebrating. [Details]

Upon room check in, patio door glass was smashed, missing glass, desk drawers broken and ajar, patio railing solid black, when seated all you could see was this black barrier as you sat in the concrete box. Had to pay $100 US more to move to an average room without items listed in junior suite inclusions as per our booking: magnifying mirror, slippers and robes. We could have these items and canned beer if we paid $400 US per couple per week extra for the prestige section. Although bathroom was clean and modern with double sinks, on two separate days there was no tap/shower water and towels were well worn and grey.
Many loud room renovations on going with the worst being the beach side lunch bar, side of restaurant piled with trash. Deck and railings being built as you eat, beach washed away, blocked off as they constructed and filled gigantic sandbags along entire property to build up shore. Stinky diesel boat running nonstop with drainage hoses blocking walking access. Huge fiberglass "beached whales" scattered the ocean perimeter to stop waves, always yellow and red flags flown due to location of this point. Very few loungers on windy small upper section of so-called beach with a six-foot drop, sand not raked or taken care of, smashed foot on rock on only narrow path leading to beach bar. Overcrowded pool areas due to no beach, people stealing towels, umbrellas and loungers which are old and super uncomfortable. Beach bathrooms awful. Pictures of resort in advertising do not show the eroded beach and I predict this resort will soon lose its entire frontage. Huge hedges block entire view of ocean from both pools and rooms, as well as breeze. Mosquitos were thick, covered in bites every day of our two-week holiday. Would not recommend this resort period. I went to this resort with my two adult children and we had an absolute blast. The staff all were very friendly and always willing to help or assist. Luis Manuel was our butler and he was fantastic. The entertainers were all amazing. I don't know how they do what they do all day. always smiling and having fun. Involving everyone and making sure we all had fun. All the entertainers were amazing and fun but Scooby Doo was one of our favs. That guy can dance and was always so kind. Food at buffet was amazing and we actually enjoyed it more than the restaurants. Huge selections and always a variety! We were never disappointed at buffet and never felt like it was the same or boring like other resorts felt at the end of a week. Grounds were beautiful but beach was nothing special. We would return to this resort for sure. We had such an amazing time and we owe that experience to the staff and entertainers who made our week so full of fun! [Details]

This resort was very nice however language is a serious issue as the majority of staff do no speak English. The staff is very friendly. The staff selling time shares or memberships are very aggressive and become annoying very quickly. Beaches are gorgeous however very little places to lounge even with only 60% capacity. Pool is huge but a large number of loungers are broken and the deck has few umbrellas to provide shade. Resort had a large number of fully staffed bars which are always ready with little waiting if any.. Additional expense for privilege did not seem to be beneficial.

Beaches are gorgeous. Room was large and clean and also provided in room dining if desired. Amazing coffee house is available most of the day and night.
The weak points
Time share or membership sales are way to aggressive. Language was an issue. Paid for 110 minute massage and received 60 minutes. Not enough beach lounges or pool umbrellas and most are poorly maintained.

This was our fourth trip to Punta Cana and first staying at the Ocean Blue and Sand resort.
We paid for a 10/10 resort when it was a 7/10 property. The lack was in service staff and attention to comfort and detail. The food and property views sufficed. The front desk staff were not accommodating for small things like an extra room key, or reprogramming keys when they didn't work. We were given wrong information about reservations for specific restaurants, which made it so that we weren't able to eat at a few restaurants that we want to try. The rooms, especially washrooms were dated to an unacceptable point for the amount paid. The beds were terrible and were only covered with sheets, no blankets and it does get cold in the evenings. When we asked for blankets we were told the hotel does not have any. Staff was not kind nor helpful. We have previously stated at other properties which I can rate the opposite of this one; that I would give a 10/10 for service and quality and were at a much better price point. I would not return nor would I recommend this property again. [Details]

Due to the current COVID situation, the first 8-9 days the hotel was full at 30% capacity. The beach is small for a hotel of such size, but there were enough places. First impression was good . Grounds well kept and clean. Resort is showing it age and in need of some TLC. Bathroom shower leaked on the floor and some jets in jacuzzi were missing. Room in general as advertised, curtains and sheers would not close all the way, (fixed my self) Mini bar not keeping drinks cold, called front desk and fridge was replaced. Had to contact front desk for no umbrella, problem was solved. Hot water at bathroom sinks not working, ( repaired myself). sliding door to balcony hard to lock with a pin pushed through a hole. Coffee maker in room too small for packages provided. We were at this resort during the peak covid19 issues. Water features between rooms not functioning. [Details]

No economical way out. Poor beach front. Little available shade unless you reserve a spot at 6 am. Bathroom needed extensive cleaning e.g. shower door, taps. Floors should be washed with CLEAN water. Food in the buffet restaurant was never hot.

The place look nice but the hotel room is old. The bath tub look horrible I dont want to bath in it. We are family of 5 people. They only give 2 bottle of water everyday. I have to call room service everyday for water. Sometime they ignore me. I have to call again. The bar drink not enough variety of cocktails on non alcohol to drink compare to other resort. Over all compare to other resort this resort can not compare to other. Very Disappointed. Waisted my vacation and my money. [Details]

The weak points
The main buffet doesnt have enough variety of food compare to other resort I been to. Everyday the food is the same not much changes. Very boring food. No lobster or oyster. No decoration what so ever very plain.

As usual, Ocean Blue and Sand were perfect hosts and why we keep coming back here without consideration of other resorts. The staff is always so eager to help, friendly and smiling. I watched a older staff member cleaning up the remnants of nuts from a pecan tree, singing away like nobody was listening. I was. And his happiness brightened my day. Poolside was active as always , and staff kept us happy and well watered. Had a pedicure done by some fish at one of the pool kiosks! Quality of the food remains excellent, particularly pork, poultry, and fish. Beef for some reason remains flavorful but chewy. As always the variety of fresh food in salads, salsa, and sauces and varieties of fresh fruit is fantastic. Bananas there sure don't taste like bananas here at home. All in all a great week. The strong points
The friendly staff, notably Alexandra, and Alcedes in the dining room. A special thanks to Argentina at Mike's Coffee Bar for great service Resort is wonderful for sure but the staff is what makes the vacation what it was, fantastic. See you next year.
The weak points
On arrival, we did not get the room we had requested,and the one assigned was not in an acceptable state. Bathroom was dirty, and an A/C fan motor too loud. Replacement room was acceptable but showing its age. Remodelled rooms are very nice.

We were beyond thrilled with our stay at Ocean Blue. The resort was so clean and was the perfect size. Everything is within walking distance. The pools were extremely clean. Hotel was up to my expectations. room was tidy and clean on a daily basis, towels were replaced daily, also mini bar was restocked daily. Service was excellent. Food was pretty good. Eight a la carte restaurants-service was amazing, food was excellent. Mike's coffee house is a must try!!!! there is a variety of events for everyone of everyday. will definitely do it again!!
