Good time, decent hotel
Ryan Marshall, Hamilton, ON

First time at Bahia Principe Torquesa. We had a good time. Overall I would give it 3.5 stars based on service (2* at torquesa buffet), comfort (2* based on beds) , food 4*, beach and pool 4*. We do not tend to use a lot of the hotel amenities or do excursions etc as we've been to that area a bunch of times. We just look for good food/drink, service, relaxation/comfort. We're just wondering where or how much does one have to spend to get good food AND good service because we haven't found both at either the RIU or BAHIA. Thank you for a nice vacation, I hope you can sincerely appreciate the constructive criticism. [Details]

Pros: lots of pools which were kept super clean, good food, could usually find a pool/beach seat but may have taken a bit of looking. Drinks were alright. Easy to get around and nicely maintained grounds. Tram to beach was efficient and came frequently
The weak points
Bed was in the top 3 worst/hardest beds I've slept on in a hotel. Service at the buffet was terrible. You were lucky to get 1 drink let alone a refill of water or wine.
Rooms are tired, sagging ceiling, broken door lock/cardreader.

Hotel(I stay in)was clean, food was good.Acustic in the hotel is very loud.Service people speak very little English.I had specific requests regarding my room and it wasn't full feel.I had to threaten them to get my room switched after two nights.entertainment group is working hard .The fact that hotel is so far from ocean and has no space at the beach for own clients turned me off from ever again booking vacation to Bahia. This resort became to be “manufacturers “of tourism. Turquesa is a part of a quite big Bahia Procinpe Grand resort, being the most distant from the shore line. We were afraid that getting to the beach will be a problem, but small eclectic shuttles get you there in a matter of minutes. Overall it was a pleasant stay. [Details]

The beach, Turquesa pool, grounds, and a la cartes, especially Garden Grill, were all wonderful. Almost all the staff we interacted with were very friendly and extremely hard working. We loved the Circus show and also enjoyed the Micheal Jackson show.
The weak points
The room was not clean or in good condition. The light switch was hanging off the wall with dangling wires, clothing from other guests in drawer, outside light and tall lamp didn't work, and bathtub looks old & dirty. Minibar wasn't stocked for 4 days.

This was my third or fourth stay at Grand Bahia Principe in Punta Cana. I wasn't specifically looking for this resort, but on reviews always comes up with great reviews and offers what is important to me: good quality, for families, clean, wifi, good beach, affordable etc.
I think this resort is managed very well because everything is functioning perfectly. Rooms are nice and clean, food is fresh and diverse, beach is gorgeous, pools are clean, service is good etc. There is plenty of good quality entertainment throughout the day and at night and tons of activities for kids, including the water park. I like that once you connect to wifi, on the first page you get full overview of the resort, agenda for the day, you can book restaurants online etc.
Every year one of our vacations is on South, but we had different experiences. I am thinking about returning to Grand Bahia Principe again because I am sure I will have great vacation. [Details]

My husband and I are seasoned travelers long distances and did many AI's when we only have a week. The ambiance of the Bahia properties are great to view, but lacking of heart and attentiveness from the servers. For a 4.5 resort you would think the premium drinks are included without having to pay extra (far diff. from many other 4.5 resorts we've stayed before), the grounds are very groomed/cleaned but they cannot fix our bathroom plug just to plug a straigtner/curler. Overall beautiful gigantic property resorts you can also go to GBP Bavaro, GBP Punta Cana to enjoy their amenities, the walk to the Playa (Beach) is 10 to 12 mins or they can haul you in a long golf cart back and fort. Unless you are booking to the GBP Esmeralda , Ambar Green /Blue you will experience a lot of families with children in the resort especially the pool. Its a long haul from YVR where we departed coz its via YYZ , it was still a great getaway thanks for the experience [Details]

Let me start with this disclaimer I don't have children and this resort (Grand Bahia Principe Turquesa ) is /was catered to family's with young children. And as such the nightly entertainment was geared to the 7-10 year olds. As the largest resort complex with 4 resorts in 1 location in Punta Cana It has the feel of being oversized and at times confusing as each one has its own restaurants (buffets & snack bars) pools and sections with the speciality restaurants spread out over the whole complex. The grounds were well maintained, clean and in full display of the vibrant Caribbean colour.
However the following is not only my impressions but a compilation of a multitude of comments heard around the pools and bars from fellow Canadians, Americans and British guest. The food was the worst in my 7 times in resorts in Cuba, Mexico and Dominican. Inattentive wait staff and a definite lack of the friendly, cheerful ,Smiling Hotel staff I've come to expect in Caribbean resorts. This was the first resort that I have had to pay for a room safe although other guest had experience this in the past while I felt it was one more cash grab that is not expected in a supposed 4.5 star resort. The beach is a 10-15 minute ride on a tram. The bar staff were inattentive at the least and rude at the worst. From giving non-Spanish speaking guests old premixed drinks from pitchers, while Spanish speaking guests at the same bar, same time had fresh drinks made. The house keeping did not clean rooms until late in the afternoon so any afternoon siesta's were in a dirty room and on two of the six days were not cleaned at all. Fridges were not stocked and even toilet paper had to be requested and if your expecting any of the cute towel swans or the like you will be sadly disappointed ☹️ There seemed to be a lack of chairs around the pool for the number of guests. The only bright star in this whole very disappointing experience was one woman in guest services: Tania Sarita She understood the true meaning of what it means to be in the hospitality industry. On the three occasions we dealt with her. The first time to book our speciality restaurants and get info on the routines and amenities for the Resort. The two other times we sought her out to solve problems, She was attentive, Positive and respectful. Without her I would have been far more critical Over all I would say this was at best a 3 star resort. And defiantly not a resort for anyone who has kids above the age of ten or is looking for a relaxing get away. On our last day we were approached by a manager who was randomly walking around asking guests how their stay was going After being told about our experience as other guests within ear shot started to chime in with their own tales of similar Incidences he apologize and offered a massage or extra speciality restaurant When we refused both just saying try to improve for the next guest
He sent over a $25 gift voucher for the hotel gift shop Although appreciated most of the guests felt a little too late on the last day [Details]

Let's start by saying that Grand Bahia Principe Turquesa IS NOT a 5- star hotel. It's a 3 star. I'm not a picky person, but really the service is not that of a 5 star hotel. Upon check in, the receptionist, who is the only one serving EVERYONE, was in a bad mood. You can't really blame her. Next, we were just given a gigantic map - go and figure yourself where everything is.... The resort is huge and they have less workers for the amount of people staying. Food is average. The only good thing is the water park for the kids. Well, definitely will not go back. [Details]

First time in the Dominican but was impressed with the variety of food and the amazing level of service ! The staff was very attentive and our issues were resolved promptly (i.e. cable was fixed within 15 minutes of placing the service call). The beach is a 6 minute buggy drive away and the car comes every 3-4 minutes so we never had to wait. The room was spacious and clean. It is a very big resort and it is connected to several others which we could access so there are about 4-5 pools as well as a small waterpark for kids. There are two pools by the beach. There is always a buffet open on the resort during the day. About 40 minutes from the airport. Overall great resort. Only reason we will not go back is because we don't visit the same place twice. The resort itself is very beautiful but is very large. We understood our resort to be BEACHFRONT when in fact it was 1.9 kms from the beach, as there were 5 or 6 Bahia Principe resorts together and we were at the very back of the property. However the hotel does have an excellent tolley bus service. They have numerous bus stops and they run about every 5 mins. The beach itself is beautiful but again very large. There was only one day we couldn't find a lounge chair. Twice during our stay the hotel ran out of clean beach towels, not sure the reason but frustrating. Service in the main lobby lounge and also the buffet was very poor. We would wait sometimes for 15 or 20 mins for someone to serve you. The food in the main buffet was also disappointing. Good variety of food, but a lot poorly prepared. [Details]

First Time
Christmas in Punta Cana
Disappointed!!!!
[Details]
April 2015
Language barriers were somewhat of a problem. Had a hard time communicating what I needed at times.
Overall a nice place, beach was fantastic, pool areas were very nice as well. Easy to navigate around the resort and well maintained. [Details]
