A few weeks ago, a friend and I spent 3 nights at this hotel. On our last day, we decided to forego the extended check out ($85 until 6pm), checking our luggage with the front desk before heading out to enjoy the island. Just before noon, I fell on a nearby trail, breaking my dorsal radius bone. We drove an hour to the hospital, where they kept me for a few more hours under conscious sedation in order to reset the bone. When we got out of the hospital, we had only a few hours before needing to be at the airport for our 15-hour journey home. Back at the hotel, we asked if we could use a room to wash up (I was covered in mud from the accident, still on a host of painkillers, and crying my eyes out from the traumatic experience). Not only did the hotel say that it would cost me $300 to use the room for an hour or two, but refused to honor the $85 until 6pm offer (from earlier that day). They admitted that they were only at 80% capacity, and that plenty of rooms were available, but refused to let me use a room for even an hour because "they are a business". The lack of compassion was not the most troubling part of this experience, but ever moreso how rude and demeaning supervisor Noli was. It's a shame, as the island itself is heavenly, but seems that this hotel staffs the inhumane. I am dismayed, disheartened, and will certainly share with anyone going to Kauai where NOT to stay. Other guests who overheard our interaction with Noli shared with me their disgust with the way Kauai Beach Resort mishandled this unfortunate scenario. [Details]

The Aqua Kauai is in a perfect central location for all things Kauai; we were 45 minutes from each end of the island highway so took in everything time allowed for our one week stay.
The hotel room was typical of any middle priced room but well appointed with good space and excellent maid service. We chose this hotel for the large acreage and beachfront: also lovely.
We tried both the pub restaurant and the main dining room. As in all things Kauai, the prices were very high and the food was good but did not reflect value for cost .
Overall we would highly recommend this hotel and will probably choose it in future. [Details]

The resort is a bit dated but I appreciated how incredibly clean it was. The concierge staff was amazing...props to Jen, Karen & Nigele. I would have liked to see more options for meals after 6pm but during the day the Driftwood by the pools is pretty good. The pool area is great, pools were cold though. Please be aware: There is no swimming beach, no matter what the ads say. Definitely plays to an older crowd, no activity after 10pm. Not a 5 Star by Canadian Standards. But overall a great stay. Front desk staff were very friendly and guest services staff were very helpful with information and setting up excursions.
Hotel is in pretty good shape although there were a few things in the room that were a little rough. But overall, it was good value for money.
The dining options were pretty good although I would classify the cost as a little above average. I found this puzzling as we ate out more because we thought the food prices at the resort were higher than average. If I felt the prices in the restaurant were average, we probably would have ate there more often.
The gym, spa and pool facilities were in average to good shape. The grounds were also in excellent condition. [Details]
