Riviera Nayarit
We stayed for a week at the beginning of December. Our first impression of the resort was great. It was clean and spacious and nicely set up. The check in was quick and staff immediately greeted us and got our luggage and offered us a drink. We got to our room, the room was clean and a great size, lots of space. It was 4 of us, 2 adults and 2 kids. The food, honestly, 10/10. We loved the Italian restaurant and the Asian one, unfortunately didn't get to try the steakhouse as it was booked for a wedding and the wait was too long (and if you got kids, we need food asap haha). The buffet was AMAZING, we ate dinner there 3 or 4 nights in a row, the food was beautifully executed- different themes every night and a HUGE variety of food from seafood, sushi, meats, starches, fruit and deserts- everything was stunning and so delicious. Truthfully, we never went hungry, we were constantly stuffed with how amazing the food was. The entertainment was pretty good, a few shows were better than others but overall the entertainment was a solid 8/10. The staff were incredible, friendly and made sure you were happy and satisfied. The drinks were delicious, the beer was great- best drinks we have had at a all inclusive resort. If you get a chance to go- order the “doctor funk”, it's tasty. The staff/entertainment staff were SO amazing with all the children, putting on amazing shows, games and doing crafts and scavenger hunts and face painting. I was impressed. The beach was stunning. The pools were awesome. Great size and always could find sun loungers to relax on. The only negative thing I could say would be the beds, not the most comfortable however it wasn't the worst and we still had a decent nights sleep. You will read reviews and people have negative things to say but honestly I am not sure where they stayed cause it definitely wasn't at the Riu Jalisco. Sure, the rooms are “outdated” but they aren't even that bad and I don't spend every second looking at every nook and cranny- could eventually use a facelift but the rooms are just fine and for the amount of time you actually spend in it, you won't notice a thing unless you sit in the room all day. A big bonus is that the resort isn't all that big, everything is in nice close proximity and that is a big bonus especially when you have littles. From the front of the hotel to the beach, maybe a 2 minute walk. Wifi worked great except at the beach area. All in all, we had an extremely amazing time and we will be back in the future. [Details]

My husband and I just got back from a 7 night vacation here and we had a great time. All the staff was very accommodating and we had lots of fun boogie boarding at the beach. The food was decent with lots of selection. Would recommend this place for easy going not high expectations kinds of people. It is an older resort but we didn't mind it one bit. [Details]
Clean resort and beach area
Beach towels readily available
Good food selection
The weak points
One specialty restaurant was unavailable twice in one week due to private function booking. Resort should have separate area for this. Open concept bathroom design.
Mini bar and water restocking was poor and we had to request more supplies often

Before arriving, we followed a few PV Rui FB sites to see reviews. We were a bit nervous to stay, after reading some of those reviews. Although once we arrived, we were just as pleased as we were on our 1st day, as the 7th day. Amazing staff, immaculate grounds, incredible choices of food and drinks. The rooms were out dated, but we literally just went back to sleep. The nightly entertainment was unreal! Lots of chairs near pools, places to drink. Was worried about the bathrooms, but there were so many! Bring tonnes of sunscreen, and then more. Small market to the right of beach which deals in Peso, or USD, had so much stuff, bring chair clips (I wish I would have), you can exchange at the front desk. Also, we went to front desk every morning to get smaller water bottles. Absolutely awesome to stay here. Would come again! [Details]

7 day stay at the RIU Jalisco
Shannen Sinclair, Leduc, AB
2024-03-29
We stayed with a group of 6 adults at the RIU Jalisco. The resort is rated at a 4.3 stars. Id suggest the rating should be more like 3- 3.5 stars. Clean resort with friendly staff. Main areas were renovated, rooms were old and need upgrading. Beds/mattresses old and uncomfortable. Food very much average, and lots of rules around consuming food in the restaurants only (not allowed to take absolutely any food outside of any restaurant) and no room service or pool side snacks available. Only two pools, and then a kiddie waterpark, so the two pools were very full. No pool side or beach side waiter service for drinks. Not close to much- 40 minute walk to Bucerías and a $40 Uber ride to the Malecon. [Details]

My stay with family at Riu Jalisco was ok but rooms were too small . I didn't like the washroom s together with bar/ coffee machine. There should be separate door for washroom for privacy when travelling with family. I thought to try Riu this time but I was disappointed as my last hotel I stayed was much better with private washroom door . [Details]

We booked a last minute holiday and chose the Riu because of the price. It was a great choice, we had our breakfast each morning at the buffet and a restaurant for dinner. My favorite was the Italian dining, and a big shout out to Jackie the hostess. My least favorite was the Asian but it was ok. There were lots of pool and beach chairs. Our room was great, clean, spacious and fridge well stocked. We enjoyed the resort but would likely try the Riu adult resort next time as the Riu Jalisco appears to be a young family destination. Extremely impressed with this all inclusive resort. The rooms, bathrooms, public bathrooms and restaurants are always clean. The gardens are constantly maintained and everyone on staff is friendly and helpful. There is a big variety of food and it is good. I would not recommend the steakhouse as certain meats are tough, the ribs are fatty and the chicken is dry. I would also avoid the Mexican restaurant. We wondered why it was always empty and now we know why. Don't let that stop you from enjoying the Asian restaurant and buffet restaurants. We would go back to the Riu Jalisco in a minute! [Details]

We enjoyed our stay at the Riu Jalisco very much. Great weather, food & drinks what more could we ask for. The only complaint I have is the pillows in the room definitely need to be replaced they're very uncomfortable. But that's minor. Thanks so much. [Details]
The room cleaning stuff does very good work. The bell boy was asking for tips! Not a very nice guy. We got food poison from undercooked food. It was undercooked not just once. Not very many choices for the food. The coffee is horrible and they make sure that you get way less alcohol in your cocktails comparing to other resorts. My concern is also the horses on the beach. When they are riding, they don't look where the people are. You have to make sure you are not on their way! We will never ever go to this hotel again. [Details]

Our experience at Riu Jalisco was on average a 7 out of ten with 10 being the best. Too many very small children everywhere and so noisy. Pools too warm but should have waiters. All staff very helpful plus one gentleman stood out. Outstanding service from Mario the bell boy. Excellent demeanour and good command of English. Another excellent employee was Ramone at the poolside bar. Food was average. The humidity was frightful but we understand it was that time of year. We may or may not stay at another Riu? [Details]

We stayed here for a 2 week holiday. The rooms were really nice, 4th floor near elevator. Nice view of the resort. They were pretty soundproof which was an added bonus. Food was really good, last few days they were lacking variety but still found lots to choose from. Tons of beach loungers and pool loungers. The activity team always had something going on for people to take part in at the pool but it was very loud. Music all day VERY loud. We were on the beach so wasn't as bad. The grounds are beautifully maintained. This is a pretty big resort so there is lots of walking involved. I would stay here again without a doubt. [Details]

We loved our stay at the Riu Jalisco. Because it was such a good price, we were expecting it to be a little underwhelming, but it was absolutely fabulous. Excursions were easy to book and everyone who works there is so friendly and helpful. It felt quite authentic and not like we were locked up in some bland resort that could have been anywhere. We really felt like we experienced Mexico, and we got to relax and have fun in a nice setting too. Would definitely recommend to others and return.
This is purely an opinion on aesthetics, but I wish they'd gravitate back towards the building's original design. In some areas, you can see that there used to be more warm colours and natural wood, with large photos of old Mexico, and it's absolutely beautiful - for example, in the Cantina. The "modern" purple and silver lobby and restaurant look and feel like the world's worst night club, right down to the bad lighting. But, once you're out of there, you can appreciate Jalisco's true beauty, and there's a lot of that. The grounds are beautifully kept.
It's a bit tricky to get out of the water at the beach, and the shower is slippery. We were told there are no rooms with accessible washrooms. Because of that, I would not recommend it for those with reduced mobility or the elderly. [Details]

The food was great, the service was terrific and everyone was so friendly, the building is beautiful, it's clean, the beach is very nice and the palm trees provide ample shade throughout the day.
The weak points
The pool bar gets crowded and it can be tough to get service when busy. It's a shame what they've done with the interior design with all that "modern" silver and purple. It doesn't suit the building at all and takes away from its grand old beauty.
Sanitary measures
Covid was not currently a high threat during our stay, but you could notice leftover habits and signage and they seemed adequate if it were.
Mediocre food selection. Housekeeping staff training is on the weaker side.
