We thought we booked at the Hyatt ziva cancun which is a 5 star but we were actually at the Hyatt viva Rivera cancun which is a 4 star so that was disappointing and confusing right off the bat. We met several other people that exprerienced the same thing. [Details]

Buffet was limited, have to get up by 7 to get a lounger, the restaurants were all really boring - they felt like cafeterias other than the outdoor restaurants. Staff was hit and miss some were great, a few not so friendly. Kids club looked pretty boring

Not good very disappointed

I would never visit this place again. The entrance looks like a hotel and not a resort. Beach is not walkable beach. Food is the same everyday and no variety and not good. Mediterranean cuisine mentioned but was never served. There are no late night snack bar. [Details]

Great Vacation Spot for Families

We had a great trip, the staff are very friendly and responsive but not 'in your face' to make you participate in activities, sign up for timeshares or use services. [Details]

The weak points
Restaurant service is slow but not 'too slow'.

The WORST EXPERIENCE EVER

, Toronto, ON
2023-07-04
My boyfriend and I (we are in our mid-thirties) wanted to book a mid-winter getaway to escape the horrible Toronto winter and after doing ample research on this hotel/resort through multiple social media channels including Instagram and other review websites we decided this resort was going to be great. WRONG!

We arrived in the evening so it was quite dark and we couldn't see the grounds. Since it was Super Bowl Sunday we ended up just grabbing food from the tents that were set up in the main area of the hotel and watching the game with the rest of the people. Lots of fried food and guacamole…good stuff for a quick snack. Little did we know that this would be the best meal for the duration of our stay at this place.

Our first impression of the hotel and the grounds in the daylight - the place is horrible! It's a run-down property with a brand name on it. We spent almost $6,500 for the two of us on this trip and expected the 5-Star resort experience, but I guess not. Lots of deceptive advertising all over the place and deceiving old photos from the early/mid-2000s, which made the place look very inviting. Complete scam!

At first, we thought this was just an initial shock/wrong impression so we decided that maybe if the food at the restaurants on the property was good we'd be able to close our eyes on the dilapidated resort and crappy beach and champ it out. We were badly disappointed once again. We walked out of the “Japanese” restaurant without even waiting for the main course, same with the “Italian” restaurant the next night. Both evenings we ended up ordering chips and guacamole and fries from the bar and that would be our dinner. Oh, and just so we are clear, the bars on the resort close at 10 pm or something ridiculous and the only place you are able to get a drink after that is a scary "sports bar", which resembles a place where I imagine the souls go to die.

We ended up leaving the resort to get dinner in town two nights in a row, which was a 35-minute cab ride each way and $50 USD each way.

After the fiasco at the “Italian” restaurant we decided we couldn't stay at this resort and so we ended up going to the reception to speak with the representative of the Canadian vacation company with which we booked this trip. Guess what, they had no such representative on site and they would need to be called in to come in. The guy showed up the next day, at 4 pm and proceeded to tell us that he would be coming back the next day with "options" for us to move to an alternative resort. He came back at 3 pm the following day saying that we would be foregoing the value of our trip paid at the resort should we choose to transfer somewhere else, and would have to book through him and pay fully to go to another resort. All in all, we wasted 3 days trying to get out of this place and ended up swallowing the cost of the stay at this horrible resort and paying to go somewhere else.

After doing some research I found out that this was an old resort purchased by the conglomerate and rebranded to reflect the prestigious name. Overall experience - this place gets a 1 out of 10, just by virtue of us having a place to sleep and tequila to drown out our disappointment throughout the day. That impression stayed with us throughout our stay there: the rooms were gross, the food was inedible and the beach was unacceptable (mold on the lounge chairs and disintegrating palm huts). Overall great resort with excellent service and food!
we had a great time there, resort felt new modern and was designed tastefully
its a smaller resort than others we have been to but felt intimate and due to this, it was easier to get around with 2 small kids - definitely kid friendly with lots to do throughout the week [Details]

Beautiful resort- great family vacation

, Lively, ON
2023-01-17
Overall we had an amazing time during our stay. Everyone was fantastic from the second we arrived. We did find some of the restaurants to be loud, and unfortunately, our pool view room overlooked the adult only pool , so we couldn't send our kids out to swim while watching from the balcony.
We loved that the resort was small, and we could easily get anywhere in a few minutes. We felt completely comfortable allowing the kids to explore alone. [Details]

The strong points
Beautiful room, amazing staff, clean and modern resort. Excellent food, lots of variety. Gym facility was great, lots of activities for adults and kids.
The weak points
Water slides were slow- kids had to push themselves down the slides with their hands. Not enough outside meal options (supper), beach area was un-usable most days because of weeds (not the fault of resort).

Birthdays to remember!!

, Toronto, ON
2022-07-14
I took my mom and daughter to a Hotel Ziva Reviera as part of my mom's birthday gift. Our original plans we're back in 2020 with another hotel chain but Covid happened…

As the saying goes “everything happens for a reason “. I cancelled my reservations with the other hotel due to extremely poor customer service (even before we got there, yes!). This made me realize that if they could treat me this way now, how will our experience be while we're there? I reached out to a local travel agency who highly recommended Hyatt Ziva and I am soooooooo happy that we made the switch.

Customer Service 5 rating

We were treated like royalty from the onset. Anything you could want or need was catered for. The staff (every staff) was extremely attentive, welcoming, friendly, accommodating even if they could not speak English they would gesture with a smile.

Food 5 rating

There were a wide selection of restaurants to choose from and we literally ran out of time to eat at all of them…lol but the ones we did eat at were incredible, all day buffet, Italian, French, Japanese and the poolside restaurants. You don't have to leave where you're sitting to get anything. If you want to be lazy (as you should on vacation) this is the hotel for you. They will literally bring everything to you. My daughter was able to be in the pool or beach all day while still having access to restaurants near by. My mom couldn't stop thanking me for such a wonderful experience.

Ground/Facility 5 rating

When you walk into the lobby, you're greeted with a picturesque, photo ready view. The bell boys are so quick with gathering your belongings to assist you to your room that there was never a messy or cluttered lobby. The smell of the hotel was invigorating!!!! I'm obsessed!!! Lol if only I could bottle it up and take it with me…lol it's that good (and I'm sensitive to scents). From the lobby you can immediately see pools and the ocean, so breathtaking, the grounds were literally perfect and well thought out. Strategically lined palm trees, gorgeous cabanas (for daily rentals) and tons of beach chairs line the main pools. It is the perfect backdrop for weddings/renewals.

Rooms/Room Service 5 rating

The room size was handsomely generous!! We absolutely loved our room. It was pool view of the kids water slide area but we were on the third floor so we were fortunate to have an ocean view too!!!! It was the most spectacular view every morning and at night. The room had two queen size beds. The bathroom had oversized wood sliding doors that gave the room an open-concept feel from the washroom to the bedroom. It was a very “sexy” room, if you will ;) Fully stocked mini fridge and snack drawers and Nespresso coffee machine with pods, SHOCKED!! Room service 24/7, we were able to receive fresh towels, anytime time of day or night. Same for meals, no matter what time they will provide room service. My daughter had a huge floating device, they were kind enough to inflate it for us!

This a great hotel for singles and Familys, there was a dedicated Kids Club with an active itinerary to keep the little ones busy all day if you wanted time alone. There was one “adults only” pool if that's the kind of trip you desire. They thought about it all.

There's obviously more that I can say but you just have to go experience it yourself. Overall this hotel was worth every single penny spent! HIGHEST OF HIGHEST GRADE!

I never write reviews but on this, it was a must. Will recommend to everyone and I will visit again. [Details]
