Stayed at the hotel for 7 days at the end of February. Good hotel, nice beach, alot of bars and restaurants.

Plage sublime, mais désuétude des lieux

En premier lieu, les points positifs. Le personnel est chaleureux et très sympathique. Merci à Yane au Lobby le soir et au Barman qui était simplement fabuleux. On pouvait presque croire qu'il était une pieuvre à 12 bras ! Merci à la personne du Grill le soir (je ne me souviens plus son nom), mais très sympathique. Yailin au buffet, très sympathique ! Toujours un plaisir de la voir dans notre quotidien. Leanny, superbe avec les enfants et sympathique en tout temps avec son beau sourire ! L'animateur, grand avec des lunettes et une coupe de cheveux au carré ! Wow ! Il a de l'énergie et très sympathique ! Notre femme de chambre, merci pour les petites attentions. Le service médical pour un problème de santé avec ma plus grande fille a été très efficace sur site. L'infirmière et le médecin ont bien cerné la problématique et ont traité le problème avec diligence et à des coûts raisonnables sans actions superflues. La plage ! Juste wow. Un horizon de sable blanc. On pouvait avoir de l'eau jusqu'à la taille sans problème et ce, sur une grande distance sans corail, sans algues. Lorsque la mer était calme : un grand bain. L'eau limpide et le sable tellement fin qu'on pouvait se croire dans une piscine.

Le négatif maintenant : La désuétude du site. L'ensemble de l'hôtel aurait besoin de rénovation. La chambre était très minimaliste. Une odeur d'urine mélangé avec l'humidité. L'air climatisé était efficace cependant et pas trop bruyante. Elle pouvait sortir l'humidité, mais pas l'odeur d'urine... Un tapis très louche qu'on a sorti de la chambre qui avait une odeur de tout ce qui pince le nez... Les couvres matelas étaient tous troués ou inexistant dans certains lits. Les matelas, on pouvait y voir des traces de sang, de selles ou d'urine. On était bien content d'avoir amené des couvertures qu'on a mis par dessus. Pour les commodités dans le frigo, il faut payer 15 CUC pour avoir des boissons à chaque jour. Les bouteilles d'eau sont plutôt rationnées ainsi que le papier hygiénique. Les serviettes propres sentaient parfois plutôt bizarre... comme si l'on avait oublié de mettre du savon dans la machine à laver. On a échappé un verre en vitre une journée. Nous avons retrouvé du verre sans cesse jusqu'à la fin de notre séjour. Les salles de bain publique sont très peu hygiéniques. Il faut dire que la pression de l'eau n'est pas la même et le réseau d'aqueduc non plus qu'au Québec. Il faut donc jeter le papier dans une petite poubelle. Aussi, quelques cabines n'ont pas de portes, faute de réparation ou de loquet. La piscine, beaucoup de céramiques qui décollent au fond... On se barre les orteils dans les trous. Dans la piscine des enfants, où un drain... il manquait le capot, très dangereux de se coincer un pied dedans.

La nourriture était très de base. Fruits en conserve de type DOLE ou MOTTS, sauce en conserve... salsa et fromage aussi en sauce pour nachos. On y retrouve malgré tout un certain éventail de salades froides et de viandes froides. Je n'ai pas pris de viandes, mais j'ai plutôt pris des salades. La plupart était bien. Par contre, très peu de fruits frais. Des bananes, plutôt rare. Des réserves à se faire lorsqu'il y en a. Le bar a pâte est standard. Les grillages ? poulet, porc et boeuf. Parfois, des petites brochettes. Grill a poisson aussi qui était pas mal non plus. 3-4 sortes de poissons possibles. Cependant, la quantité manquait parfois à l'appel lorsqu'il y avait beaucoup de monde sur le resort (transition entre les départs et les arrivées). Les jus sont principalement du jus de concentré. Les restaurants à la carte, même repas qu'au buffet, mais avec une présentation plus raffinée.

L'aspect propreté est très dichotomique avec notre réalité. Pour eux, nettoyer les tables est plutôt épousseter les tables. Les petits napperons ne sont pas réellement nettoyé. On balaie les miettes et on passe une lingette rapide ainsi que sur les tables. On utilise souvent les mêmes linges pour nettoyer pendant toute une soirée. Il n'était pas rare de retrouver de la nourriture séchée sur les napperons. Pour des gens qui ont des notions d'allergies sévères à des aliments, les napperons sont à retirer et un nettoyage avec une lingette est requis sur la table complète.

Pour votre information : mes enfants ont des allergies. Une aux noix et arachides. L'autre intolérance à la volaille et allergie oeufs.

Une valise de nourriture fut nécessaire, oui, mais elles ont quand même pu manger là-bas. Les noix et arachides sont pratiquement inexistante sur le site (aliments couteux $$$). De plus, nous pouvons demander aux chefs sur place. Ils peuvent nous aiguiller sur le contenu de leurs aliments. Amenez de la nourriture et préparez-vous une lettre pour du moins vous faire bien comprendre et ce, en espagnol. L'anglais et le français des locaux est de base. Ils peuvent discuter de nourriture, de boissons... mais lorsqu'on sort des discussions de service (What would you like to drink ?, How are you ?, etc), ça devient plus difficile. À moins que votre espagnol soit bien à niveau. Le mien ? Il ne l'est pas ! ;)

Comme j'ai mentionné plus tôt, le personnel fait en sorte d'oublier un peu les éléments négatifs, mais lorsqu'on revient à la chambre et que ceux-ci ne sont plus dans l'équation, on regrette un peu notre séjour parce qu'il y a un grand inconfort sur la salubrité et sur le confort en général de la chambre. Des gens avec des problèmes intestinaux... c'est assez fréquent... et à voir la propreté des lieux comme j'ai mentionné plut tôt... ça explique l'incidence des cas avec des diarrhées, nausées/vomissements... Les matelas seraient à changer dans l'ensemble je dirais... Pour ma part, la nourriture était ok. Je pouvais prendre l'énergie nécessaire avec un certain plaisir, mais en restant conservateur. Cependant, si nous comparons notre nourriture et celle d'ailleurs (Mexique ou République), vous allez être déçu.

Pour terminer, il faut comprendre aussi le contexte du pays. Communiste depuis belle lurette... et l'embargo vient réduire les ressources essentielles du pays. Je dirais que toutes les ressources produites localement vont pour les resorts et la demande excède malheureusement la capacité de produire. De plus, les importations possibles ont aussi le même sort. En parlant avec ceux qui connaissent beaucoup les cubains et aussi en parlant avec eux, le manque de ressources de base est grandiose. Donc, oui, donner du pourboire est bien... mais pour la plupart, des brosses à dents, de la pâte à dent... du savon... du linge, des jeux... ce sont des choses qu'ils ne sont pas accessibles. J'avoue qu'on ne donne pas une brosse à dent comme pourboire dans le lobby... mais lorsque vous apprécié une personne... vous pouvez lui donner pendant un moment opportun... ce genre de bien. Par contre, on voit que la télécom est bien sur place et tout le monde a un cellulaire ! On est sur Facebook, mais on n'a pas de shampooing ou de savon... la base, elle est fragile. J'ai passé un beau moment en famille malgré tout. J'ai pris encore plus conscience de la chance que nous avons d'être dans l'abondance. Donc, prenez pas pour acquis qu'ils ont tout eux aussi. Au contraire... ils n'ont rien à comparer à nous. Je ne crois pas y retourner. C'était la 3ème fois. Ça faisait en fait 11 ans que je n'étais pas retourné. Malheureusement, ça n'a pas vraiment changé. Ce qui m'interroge : Le nombre de resort grandit : mais les ressources n'augmentent pas et les systèmes d'eau, de déchets ne sont non plus pas à jour sur le débit touristique que génère le tourisme international. Cuba fonctionne à plein régime en 2020, mais sur un système des années 70 ! Un jour, espérant qu'ils pourront aussi se mettre à jour technologiquement parlant... ceci aura un grand impact sur la qualité de séjour à ce moment là.

Amazing Beach

Amazing beach! Staff were friendly and warm. Buildings are getting tired and need to either have a renovation or a really good deep clean. Buffet was always very busy. Food was ok.

Beautiful beach. Beach staff were very helpful to provide us with chairs. The gardens look lovely. All the staff are very friendly and polite. Very nice hotel rooms. Everything worked well. Snack bar is great. Plenty of bars and good drinks
The weak points
The mattress was hard and the sheets do not fit the king size bed. It could use a mattress pad. Guests should respect the dress codes at the restaurants. No hats or shorts! A-La-Carte Restaurant menu items did not fully represent what we were given eat.

I have never written a review because more often than not, I have found that most of the reviews people share are solely based on complaints. This review however, is the exact opposite. I love Cayo Coco…mostly for the sun, sand, and crystal clear water; but, the resorts have so much more to offer. In my travels, I have discovered that Cuban people are some of the kindest people in the world, and a smile is offered everywhere in this beautiful country. I have travelled to Cayo Coco multiple times over the past few years; in the past year alone, I have visited both Memories Flamenco and Playa Parasio for four separate weeks. Although there are little things that seem to bother some people, I do not have a single complaint…these little things, are seriously little things!
On the last day of my most recent trip, I became very ill. Throughout the week, I had been drinking an excessive amount of water to stay hydrated and did not realize that in doing so, I was flushing too much sodium from my body…who would have ever thought that drinking too much water could be a bad thing. Upon arrival to the airport, I became very dizzy and lethargic. The captain of the flight along with his attendants, determined that I was too sick to travel and required medical attention before I could be safely cleared to travel home to Toronto. I was removed from the aircraft and transferred by ambulance to a local medical clinic to be assessed. Justly so, I was very scared! Having travelled to Cayo Coco a number of times however, I have made friendships with many wonderful people…and in this situation, I could not have been more grateful for these friends. As per my request to the representative at the airport, Jimenez Menes. I asked to be transferred to Playa Parasio once release from the clinic. I contacted my friends' - Mr. Ubisnel Saavedra, Mr. George Fernandez, Adia Tamayo , Ronny Rivas, Alienn Zamora at Playa Parasio and Yailyn Lopez at Memories Flamenco - to explain the situation and notify them that I would be returning to the hotel that evening.
Allien was in the lobby of Playa Parasio waiting for when the ambulance arrived; Adia stayed with me to be sure I was okay; Ronny's love and concern will never be forgotten; and, Yailyn travelled from Memories Flamenco to Playa Paraiso at 6:00am, to check on myself and offer her assistance. These kind individuals went above and beyond, sharing so much love, compassion, and concern; whatever I needed, they did without question. And not to mention, on both Ubisnel and George's day off. Ubisnel worked with the representative, Lester, to make arrangements for a flight home at the soonest time possible, he called several times to be sure my care was being looked after, while George contacted me regularly for updates on my condition and stayed in constant communication with the hotel nurse, Anita; Anita checked on me hourly, alongside Dr. Yoany Martinez. Jimenez, rep, was at airport and assisted with departure details.
Upon arriving home, I went to Canadian hospital. The attending emergency doctor was very impressed with the care and treatment I had received in Cayo Coco. After a few days of being home, I am happy to say that I am beginning to feel better but I am left with a few thoughts regarding negative travel reviews…
Firstly, how can people base their poor reviews and negative comments on sheets not being changed daily…I would bet, that you don't change your sheets daily while at home. Secondly, broken glass around a pool…it's not the hotel staff taking or braking the glasses poolside. And lastly, weather, nature, and bugs in the grass...Mother Nature folks, those things are out of a resort's control.
The names mentioned above have always extended the most professional and outstanding service and now life long friendship. Yet there are so many more names I haven't mentioned at these two resorts.
Memories Flamenco, Gabrielle and Pascual, boys at the beach. Yanela and Zoe, lobby bar. Yarelys and Yirenia, snack bar. Yailyn Lopez, reception, is one of the most helpful, kind, hard working individuals I know.
Playa Parasio, I need to include Pinky, David, Jorge, Mary. There are so many great people always happy to help [Details]

Awesome Beach

Had a great week. Staff are great and beach is amazing. Resort has a few flaws but if let that wreck your week thats your problem. Biggest complaint was check in for us. Told us to come back at certain times and at third return they told us people in room had late check out. I would of been much happier if I was told this right away instead of giving times and getting annoyed but got over that quickly. Other than that front desk staff were great. [Details]

Check in and our mattress was not good at all. We had bad luck at Al a cartes we tried. Waited forever at Italian to be seated and for service. At Cuban we were served bread then long wait and served main course, Totally forgot to serve our appetizers

Nice Beach, Bad food, Long Lines

The beach, pool and weather was lovely. The food was mediocre to bad. Things felt very disorganized, especially if you're an English speaker. There are no written materials about how things work and where things are. Be prepared for very long food lines if you want anything prepared at a station. For pizza near the beach you could be waiting over an hour. We had ants and cockroaches in our room, a toilet that never stopped running and two sinks that would not drain. However, the view from our room was lovely. The staff were all very nice, although many did not speak English which made communication difficult. Do not go outside at dusk without a lot of mosquito repellent. Overall, I wouldn't go back, but loved the water and sunshine. [Details]

Overall for the price it was not a bad resort. There were many little things that could be done to improve the atmosphere and appearance. Like bathrooms at the beach. Better beach maintenance (shells and coral in the sand). Better theatre shows. A drink menu and a drink of the day. Better beds and pillows. Free internet. [Details]

Food was so so but typical for Cuba. Theatre was right in the same area as lobby and was loud at night. But some people prefer that. Rooms were not great. Hard beds and thin pillows.

We are a family of four and we were amazed by the beautiful beach. It is a quiet place, no loud partying what we liked the most, the staff was nice, if there was an issue they solved it very fast. First time in Cayo Coco and at The Hotel Paraiso.
Enjoyed our stay, food was quite good with a good variety of hot and cold dishes in the main buffet restaurant however there was no bread available at lunch time or in the evening at the buffet restaurant.
The Italian, Portuguese, and Cuban a la carte restaurants were satisfactory.
Staff was always friendly and ready to help and had a positive attitude.
The buffet staff were quite attentive.
Rooms need some upgrade but were clean. Bathrooms in lobby area were not always very clean.
Cuba is a cigar producing country but we should not have to endure the constant smoke blown in our face and the heavy smell of cigarette and cigar smell in all the common areas, lobby, theater, and pool. We could not enjoy most entertainment events for this reason.
The mini-bar is never stocked and only a daily bottle of water is supplied in the rooms, however we had to often call to get the water and many people were quite frustrated as they did not get any at all and none of the bars have bottled water.
Overall a satisfactory stay and would return. [Details]

Food better than expected. Beach area is great. Can walk several KM either direction. Great staff. Close to airport.
The weak points
Difficult to find an area in the lobby, in the theater or in pool area without getting cigarette and cigar smoke in your face. A lot of bugs once gets dark. Only 1 restaurant/bar on the beach.

Amazing vacation!

It's my 6th visit to Cuba and I must say this has been my favorite one! You will not regret staying at Playa Paraiso! The staff, the food, the activities and the service were amazing.

The beach is gorgeous and the pool is a lot of fun. There is always an activity happening at either one. Entertainment team is great, they make you feel welcomed and take the time to talk to you. A special thanks to Humber from the entertainment team!

The property is well kept, clean and cozy. The buffet is delicious and you can always find something to eat even if you are a bit less adventurous when it comes to food! Best part is there is always fries and they keep replenishing (something I haven't seen at other resorts) The snack bar is open 24h a day which is great for late night cravings and the à la carte restaurants are actually very good especially the Cuban!

We had a problem with our door and they had someone come and fix it within 5minutes of placing a call to the service desk.

Its going downhill

3rd time at this hotel. Also our last. Things that were broken on our first trip were still broken on our third trip. Buffet food is still cold. Availability of food in Cuba is getting worse. When I watched a cleaner mop the floor in a restaurant bathroom then use the same mop to clean the vanity that completely turned me off. [Details]

There are 11 three-level blocks hiding in mature garden. Nice pool, entertainment, restaurants, bars are all in short walking distance.
They have good selection of drinks and foods, big variety of desserts and cheeses. The pizza and the fried fish on the beach are also very delicious.
The sandy beach is beautiful with lots of sunbeds and palapas.
We enjoyed our stay in Playa Paraiso. [Details]

Amazing beach, terrible service

Never again. The worst service ever. Arriving at 11 am and having bed sheets in your room ready by 8 pm. They never change bath towels or bed sheets (even if you stay 2 weeks). Beach towels can be changed once a day 9 to 5. Reasonable, but.. by 9.15 they run out of clean towels for the day!
The first answer to any request is "no". You have to push them real hard to have anything done. Food is decent, but when a buffet is closed it's hard to get something to it. We've spent 1.5 hours waiting for 3 hot dogs.
Only 3 high chairs in the buffet - getting one becomes a battle! Obviously, there is more than 3 families with kids there

Amazing beach, awful kids club/organization

The resort was a very short bus ride away and the check in process was fast and very efficient. We paid the extra fee for the priority club and it was worth the price. Our mini bar was refilled daily with soft drinks, beer and a 1.5l bottle of water. Make sure you empty your water bottle completely or hide it from the cleaning staff or they will not replace it. The first night we were entitled to a surprise supper for priority club members...which we found out about from our vacation rep by accident a few hours before the supper. The supper was an amazing lobster dinner.

One of the reasons we booked was for the kids club and kids entertainment...let that not be the reason to book there. Our daughters (7 and 9) went to the kids club for an hour and begged us not to go back. They said they were left pretty much on their own by Naya and when they asked if they could go on the trampoline, she said "ok...but be careful because its broken" ???? The same day, they organized a waterpolo game for the kids in the pool. There were about 8 kids there and the animator threw the ball into the water and said "don't forget to give the ball back when you are finished". We were really not impressed at all. All kids animation and games were done with a half *** effort and just to get them over with.

The grounds were very nice but at various spots on the grounds (behind the Pizza grill and next to the main Snack bar) you had an overwhelming stench of raw sewage. The hotter it was the smellier it became.

Beach towels were supplied and were exchangeable everyday...in theory. There were days were the laundry was delivered so you had to lug around soaking wet towels and hoped they dried over night (good luck). The woman at the towel stand was a saint and one of the nicest and caring women in the whole resort. Make sure you don't lose your towels because you are accountable in giving them back at the end of your stay. I heard if you lose one its about $30 to replace it.

The buffet was basic Cuban buffet. Not bad but not amazing. The four restaurants (Indian, Italian, Cuban and Portuguese) were way above the usual restaurant food for Cuba and well worth getting your reservations done early.

The 24hr Snack bar was slow. Twice during our week we had to wait over 30 minutes for 2 simple hotdogs...giving up the first time and then complaining the second. I understand we are on vacation but when combining the wait and the stench of sewage...not enjoyable. Oh yeah...make sure you take a table that is not underneath the big lights on the ceiling. There are always birds in there and you take the chance of getting pooped on!

The beach was amazing. It definitely lives up to the hype and no seaweed as of last Thursday. Priority club gives you access to a private part of the beach with sun shelters and waiter service. Same at the pool you get a reserved area. The pool was nice and big and pretty clean (as long as you don't have a Scuba mask on). Speaking of scuba, the instructor that offers the in pool scuba course was very good and very attentive to our daughters. We didn't do the ocean dive but would have had confidence in him.

Room was dirty and had little bugs going from the plug to a picture on the wall. First night we sprayed Off on the wall and they disappeared.

All in all it was a nice vacation because of the beach, pool and a la carte restaurants. [Details]

3rd time in Pestana, beach is amazing, rooms clean , pool could use more shade , but not a big deal. Food , well it's Cuba so we don't expect much , some days better than others , big line ups for pizza at least 45 minutes, my husband and I got really bad food poisoning so did other guests that we talked to, we ate different things so we are thinking maybe food prep in a kitchen is not hygienic, thankfully food poisoning lasted 24 hours and we bought gravol from Canada. First of I have to mention amazing staff they have, specially the servers in buffet, snack bar, restaurants and lobby area and entertainers. They work tirelessly to make keep vacationers happy.
Next the beach; Clean tidy beautiful beach.
Water sports; lot of water sports are available however we could not enjoy any since everyday it was closed citing wind speed high.( Unfortuntely it was very windy)
Food: Average, Fruits: Looks like struggling to find fruits, limited to 3 to 4.
Pool: water was teribly cold in January.
Rooms; Need lot of upgrades, specially washroom, faucets, tissue holders etc. are falling off. [Details]

Overall it was a good week at the Pestana but we agreed we would not return unless we got it on a good deal. The food options were limited (line ups for pizza are a joke), some staff blatantly ignored guests (especially in the buffet), and rules against reserving beach chairs/loungers by the pool were not enforced. We were not given the proper bracelets for being priority club until we were actually chased from a section of the buffet and went to the front desk where they realized their mistake. Fantastic Beach

The Pestana is a Greta size, you are never too far away from anything at this resort.
Staff were very friendly with the exception of the front desk staff, who were just ok.
There was never anything in the mini fridge, we received water,but only one or two bottles a day, on one occasion, none at all.
All in all it was ok, definitely not worth the price we paid. I may go back to Cayo Coco for the beach but not this resort. [Details]

The beach and the staff make this resort. The pool area is nice and clean, there was never a problem getting chairs at the pool or on the beach. The entertainment was good, the dancers were very good.
The weak points
Lack of water and drinks in mini bar, I've never experience this at a resort before. The Wi-fi is very poor. Many lights on the paths are broken making walking in the evening difficult in some areas.

We were there for one week,and it was enough.First night,it was a nightmare.We had bed bugs in our bed.They offered to have the room sprayed,i told them that it was out if the question,i wanted another room.Had to go back a few hours after.Then again i had to tell my story again,and i insisted that we wanted another room.Finally they gave us a better room ,third floor,and with ocean view from far ,but at least it was nicer,and also without any bugs in our bed.My wife and i were bitten and there were quit a lot of those,not only one.Staff are mostly very nice and friendly..The Cleaning lady wasn't the greatest either,specially the bathroom,and we also had sand on the floors even after she came cleaning.
Beach and ocean is very nice, but to get beach towel, a long wait in line and not always available.
Definitely understaff for service,as bar etc
As for food,not very great either, often cold.
And we always had to eat inside,no place to have breakfast and lunch with a view on the ocean,forget it, everything is inside,which was disappointing.
Bathroom on the resort,very stinky,,,
If you wanted internet,well you had to pay and buy cards for access.
Also,water bottle were disappearing from our room,humm,we had to buy others.
They don t put beers,or drinks in our rooms except two small water bottle the first day only.
Overall,i wont go there again.
For the price ,and maybe a few hundred more there are way better places to go...

ATTENTION bon et mauvais

Pour commencer, le positif: la plage est géniale et la nourriture pas trop mal pour Cuba. Le kid club est bien et le mini disco du soir un des meilleurs qu'on a vu en 8 ans de voyage en famille à Cuba. La piscine adaptée aux enfants en bas âges.

PAR CONTRE

Les lits sont super inconfortables. Les chambres sont minuscules. Chaque nuit on s'est fait piquer par ce qui semble être des bed bugs donc on a mal dormi toute la semaine. J'ai vu 3 coquerelles de bonnes tailles ( ça c'est celles que j'ai vu dans ma chambre).

Au niveau du resort, pas moyen d'avoir une chaise près de la piscine faut aller tipper le gars pour qu'il en amène. Pour la plage c'est pareille. Si vous voulez utiliser le courant 110V dans la chambre il faut aller payer au front desk pour qu'il envoie quelqu'un c'est 1 pesos par jour. c'est pas le prix mais quand je prend un tout inclus je m'attends à avoir du courant. Par contre ils ont pas charger de suppléments pour les morsures d'insectes la nuit.

Plusieurs types d'alcools sont manquants et ne pensez pas avoir des jus frais. On en a eu au déjeuner quelques fois mais à part ça c'est liqueur ou rien. Pour réserver une embarcation vous devez faire la queue le matin et espérer être chanceux.

bref nous retournerons à Cuba mais pas là. C'est pas le pire mais définitivement pas le meilleur. Si on avait pu dormir sans morsure la nuit ça aurait été vraiment mieux donc vous allez peut-être être chanceux mais nous ne prendrons plus de chance. [Details]

This was my second visit to The Pestana the first being in April 2015. I will admit I was curious to see if the place had changed a lot because hotels tend to do that quite quickly in Cuba. I was pleasantly surprised to see it was just the same as the year before! I was very lucky as a returning guest to have a room n the 3rd flor with oceanview.My twin sister had e-mailed the resrot prior to my arrival to let them know I would be celebrating my birthday the day I arrived. Annelys the customer service gal was waiting for me when my bus arrived.When I got to my room there was a bottle of wine waiting for me and a Happy Birthday banner hanging on the wall as well as flowers on the bed. Such a lovely gesture! Over the course of the week plates of dessert were left in my room also in the evening. September being low season I was told the resort was operating at 20%, the service was great all the same. I would say the buffet maybe wasn't quite as good but I certainly did not starve! Seeing I was travelling alone there were a few days when it wasn't necessary to have my room cleaned but the cleaning lady (can't remember her name)made sure I was ok for water, toilet paper and towels all the same. It was wonderful to be able to go to the beach around 10:30 and still have empty chairs to choose from. The weather was sunny everyday and VERY hot! My twin joined me 4 days into my vacation and we were surprised with a birthday cake and sparkling wine in her room! Thank you Annelys for this special attention.
all in all it was a great week and I would probably visit this resort a 3rd time which is something I very rarely do!! [Details]

Just returned from a week at the Pestana. The resort is a perfect size and the beach is fabulous. Our room was good and the water pressure in the shower was great. Room was always clean and a fresh bottle of water was provided each day. The workers were always friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The only down side was the food. We were never hungry but were disappointed for the most part except at breakfast. We only ate at the Italian a la carte and it was very good. For the price we paid it was good value. Excellent resort

This resort is mid sized, only 15 minute drive from airport and very well laid out. Check in was reasonably quick. There was no offer of porter service or directions as to how to get to our rooms. Just as you exit the lobby, there is a map of the resort and you MAY see a golf cart shuttle, but this is not at all obvious at check in. There is an onsite bank, small convenience/souvenir store, medical office and salon. Internet cards were available for purchase at 2 CUC per hour and the WIFI worked great.

The restaurants and buffet were quite good. The Cuban and Italian a la cartes being our favorite. The beach grill food and food served at lunch just up from the beach was very good. The pool snack bar also had very good food, but service here can be painfully slow. The buffet was typical for Cuba, but service re cleaning and setting tables was very prompt.

The pool is large and lots of lounges. Never an issue getting fresh beach towels. The beach is very nice, lots of lounges and shade areas. The beach can be small during high tide, but it is quite long. Wonderful sand and very little rock or debris.

The rooms were basic, comfortable and very clean. The bathroom was very clean. Everything worked. Most days we got fresh towels without any issues. The only thing provided in the room was bottled water daily. Sometimes the coffee was refilled, sometimes not. No big deal for me.

The public areas of the resort are very clean, including the bathrooms (most of the time). There was a couple of bathroom floods and shortages of toilet paper while we were there, but they were quick to clean things up. What can you expect when so many people are accessing the facilities?

The hotel overall is in a good state of repair, and grounds are well cared for. The staff were attentive, friendly but did not appear to go above and beyond. I think that part of Cuba may be from a time that has passed. Staff now prefer monetary tips over gifts. My advice is to tip for exceptional service.

There is a disco and small market within 5 minute walk, as well as Japanese restaurant and bowling alley. The double decker bus stops right at the resort lobby entrance. On site resort entertainment was OK. Typical for Cuba.

Overall, we had a great week, no complaints and would definitely recommend for family or adult vacation. [Details]

Quiet, restful and staff were wonderful. Food was as expected in Cuba, plentiful, varied and artfully presented. Room was lovely, clean & maid service was great ,especially Katia in bungalow 8.
One problem, we arrived near midnight and some path lights were out and with only one desk person on duty. He gave us the wrong bungalow number . We pulled our suitcases miles, it seemed, only to arrive at the wrong bungalow. We were very tired and wished, even at the late hour, that transport had been offered and better lighting.It was our second visit and after a few days inquired re a second visit reward (we had been told). We were told there would be a special lobster dinner etc. But nothing ever transpired. They did give a bottle of rum and a note on our bed because it was our anniversary. A little more organized and professional would be good but overall we rested and it was a clean ,comfortable resort. [Details]

2nd time here and will be back again. This resort was taken over by the Pestana Group about 3 years ago. The food{quality and selection} are good compared to other resorts we have stayed at in Cuba.I gained 5 pounds so I didn't starve. The grounds have plenty of greenery and are very clean. The staff are so friendly (especially Saily and Margyana in the dining area) and go out of their way to make your stay pleasant. For the people that complain about Cuban food, it is the same wherever you travel. You will have good food and some that don't meet your expectations. You get this at home. You are a guest in their country so leave your sense of entitlement at home or just maybe, stay home. The beach is great and there are plenty of chairs and shade for everyone.Overall, it was a great vacation. [Details]
