Riviera Maya
We had a great experience at the Grand Riviera Princess. The grounds and beach are beautiful, there are lots of animals, and the staff are fantastic and work hard to keep everything clean and well maintained. The buffets had many options to choose from, and the a la carte restaurants were all very good. We booked a family club swim up room which was close to the pirate buffet and ice cream shop. The kids pool and structured club activities are geared towards kids who are a bit younger, as our 9 and 13 year old did not use the kids pool area and were not interested in the structured kids activities for the most part, but as a family we enjoyed the pool table, fooseball, and air hockey on the teen side which all family members can access from 1-3pm. My kids also used the ice cream shop frequently, and while the pirate buffet wasn't as good as the bigger ones, it was close and we could pop in for breakfast or a quick snack easily which was a plus for us. We would 100% recommend and re-book a family club swim up room, it was perfect as it is a bit separated from the main pools and we enjoy a quieter resort experience so it was ideal….we had the swim up pool to ourselves most days and the kids could go in and out whenever they wanted while the adults relaxed on the back deck without having to trek to the main pools. Always a lounge chair available there too, no need to get up early and claim one (which is what we were seeing at the main pools). We didn't even go to the main pools, as the pool at our room was so convenient! Totally depends what type of experience you are looking for. There is something for everyone at the resort with all the different room categories, features, and options. We were a bit nervous from reading some of the reviews prior to going, but now that we have experienced it, we would absolutely recommend it and return to this resort. [Details]

We came to the family club with our almost 5 year old after enjoying our honeymoon at the Princess Riviera Platinum in 2015.
The resort is looking beautiful however when looking closer it's definitely showing its age - some things broken or just not the same quality we're used to in Canada or from the Platinum suites (which are currently closed and being fixed assumably as I know they were hit with a hurricane a while ago).
Service was good at bars, a la cartes, bell boys, reception, shuttle service. It was a bit slower in buffets but we also noted they seem under staffed compared to 2015 - so the staffing shortages hitting Canada are also hitting Mexico we assumed. Drinks were great and they had alcohol like captain Morgan, Malibu, Jack daniels, red label etc. which was nice.
Food was good. We really enjoyed the a la cartes at night and also loved that we could book our own through the Princess app - we found out about this on the 2nd evening of our stay. No limits on a la cartes also, so we booked 4 and did buffet 3 nights. A bit disappointed in the wait at the Miso Teppenaki restaurant as we had to wait for our table to fill up and so our chef started cooking at 650 when our reservation was 615. The food was delicious though! Steakhouse was also really good. We found the Italian - Mamma Mia - good but portions were smaller and the general pasta and sauce tasted and was served exactly like the buffets. The buffet food was good but not much variety throughout the week. Evenings had themed nights but that only changed up 5-10 items each night.
Family club is geared towards much younger than our almost 5 year old. She was bored with the water park and didn't even want to try it. The activities in the family club indoors was also for much younger and the toys were pretty old, worn out and sparse. I would recommend family club for babies to 2.5/ 3 year olds. The pirate buffet was good, minimal selection and all the same things every day. No ability to get fresh cooked eggs which we missed so went to the snack buffet or big buffet for a few mornings. Our daughter did like playing on the pirate ship stage in the buffet. And the ice cream shop was enjoyable too for a cool treat mid day. We did visit the Sunset Kids Club for a foam party and craft time and this was much more up our daughters alley. If we come back we'd do swim up (if we're allowed as we heard they won't do swim up in other parts of the resort for kids under 12 due to safety measures as the family club swim ups have locking doors off the deck into pool area and other rooms on resort don't) with Sunset or Riviera. The night shows were really good. Our daughter loved them all. I do wish they were earlier though. Some started at 830 and some 9 which made for some late nights. We were disappointed with our transport home. For a 520 flight departure we got picked up at 1150 with a handful of others also on our same flight in a minivan while others from our flight stayed longer at the resort and got on one of the tour buses later. Once at the airport we had to wait in the lines for an hour before the booths even opened to check your luggage. They checked in 2 flights at the same time (which departed 30 minutes apart) with the same airline and the lineup was probably 500 deep by the time the line started moving. Overall we had fun. We probably won't do the family club again and probably not the Princess anytime soon as we want to check out other resorts. [Details]

Overall our stay was good, we stayed in the Kids Club section - I would not recommend for kids over 8 years old - its tailored for toddlers and preschoolers- not worth the extra $$. Only thing you have different is a ice cream bar, the buffet has the same food everywhere. Our room was a nice size but had no views. The cleaning was average, however we did receive fresh towels each day. It would of been nice to have a mini bar in our room and room service that did not charge extra fees. The hotel was quite large and there was only one shuttle which periodically ran every 15- 30 minutes - long wait times in the heat. It took about 15-20 min to walk to the beach everyday. The a la carte restaurants were brutal to book, they were always full and you had to wait in line for about 30 -45 mins every other day to book as the wifi was terrible or non existent to book online and dinner time options were not convenient for families. The buffet food was "average" nothing outstanding and their was no coffee bar open until 9am. The entertainment was good, more options for kids would of been nice. The wait times for drinks was extremely long and they no longer carry straws. A little hard to drink a Pina Colada or Margarita out of a cup. I would bring a mug from home with a straw. The pools were nice - but again more water activities would be nice in any of the pools. If you like big resorts, no beach/water views, long wait times and walking this is the resort for you! Great place for families! Nice and very clean resort. The staff are very friendly and helpful. But they took more time to give us room. Because we reached the resort at 11 am and the kids were very tired, but we got the room only at 3:30 pm. Otherwise everything was good especially the food was great! [Details]

Hotel was spotless, staff was incredible, food was good especially the local fair. All pools and beach and everything just beautiful. Met people who had been there multiple times over the years and has consistently been a great place to vacation. We would 100% return to the amazing resort. The staff are so hard working and kind! Amazing resort for family with young kids!

We went end of January for a with with our three and a half and 1 and a half year old. We had a blast.
Room: We booked a room with the swim out pool, best decision on our life. While the kids were napping, we still had access to the pool and more importantly the bar. We were supposed to have a room with king bed and bunk bed, but ended up with a normal 2 double or queen bed which wasn't what we expected but manage to do the trick while we were there. The pool was a bit cold since it is not as exposed to the sun as the other pool but was still very refreshing.
Food: The pirate buffet was very fun for the kids to play on the pirate boat while we were eating. We would mostly go there for breakfast but would go at the other buffet for lunch and super since there were more choice in the other buffet and the food was more "fresh" since there are more people eating there. There was also the ice cream bar which was a big hit, the kids really loved it there! Otherwise we really enjoyed the food!
Beach: We would spend some times in the morning at the beach playing in the sand. I'de say the water was a bit rough for the kids so we wouldn't go that far but it was a beautiful beach. We would stay on the left side of the beach where we would not bother any people.
Kids pool: This was our main attraction. We spent to much time there, it was so much fun. The kids really loved it. Chairs are limited so I'de say even though they say you are not allound, you should go there early and put your towel on the chair you want :-).
Special shoutout - To the ladies in the family club buffet and ice cream bar, Dora, Yamili, Carmen, Lizeth and Arely. Those lady were wonderful and so nice to us. They would entertain the kids while were eating or enjoying our coffee. They would also go the extra mile, for example they would bring us fortified milk for our kids to fill in our feeding bottle. - To Ady, our bartender in the Family Club section. She always had a smile and was always ready to joke with us. She would make the best drink for us :-). Sometimes we even didn't have to order anything, she would just bring us something. She would also come to the kids pool to take our order and bring us back wonderful drink. [Details]

[Details]

Would never go to Mexico again because of my stay

Food was gross and cold Service was the worst I've ever had I've travelled around with kids and never had the experience of having to rush them to a foreign hospital for a disease they call coxsakie So many babies there also caught it including all 6 of mine. They DO NOT sanitize anything. I rented the wagon at the family end and found a green rotting seashell in the top that smelt so bad and had to be sitting there for weeks and by then it was too late for me to really realize how lack of care they have for santinzinf and for the kids and people staying with them. Due to my experience here I would never in my life travel to Mexico again. [Details]

Great experience at the Princess Resort especially with a young 11month baby. We had a great room with swim out into the pool. The hotel is fully staffed to accommodate a family with young infant and children plus so many more amenities to please the parents alike. 100% recommend to families or couples that are not looking for a party resort but want to relax and play all week [Details]
