We had a lovely week at Dreams Playa Mujueres. The resort is lovely and well laid out. The food was amazing! We had great food everywhere we ate. Kids loved Dolce and being able to have ice cream/dessert anytime. We spent lots of time by the Mermaid pool and we had excellent poolside service from Luis. The entertainment team was always friendly and welcoming, especially Mario, who knew our whole family by name and always made our duaghter feel welcome during pool volleyball. [Details]

I had high expectations for 5* resort Playa Mujeres Golf and Spa Resort and, honestly, I could not complain about anything. The resort is fabulous and if staying at Dreams, one can spend the whole day at the neighboring Secrets (adults only). No bracelets, no need to do reservation for the A la Carte Restaurants. First come, first served. The accommodation, cleanliness, gourmet food, drink selection at the bars.... and the cherry on the top of the cake: no mosquitos nor seaweed and 7 days of blue sky and calm, warm ocean. [Details]

The hotel was pumping out wedding parties and sales for upgrades and memberships like that was their main focus. There were atleast 8-10 weddings during our week stay. Screaming:singing partying till 3 and 4am made for restless sleeps and tired kids. The entertainment staff were wonderful and probably the best part of the stay. The set up of the hotel didn't allow for the wedding functions to not completely interrupt or intrude on all the other vacationers [Details]

Family Vacation

Going on a family vacation with 4 adults and 3 kids aged 3,8 and 10 is a challenge but we were looking forward to family time at the Dreams Playa Mujeres resort outside of Cancun. After our Westjet flight and long wait for luggage, we walked out of the terminal to find our Best Day Transport. The ride to the hotel took us about 45 minutes and was both scary and entertaining with ‘speedy Gonzales' navigating interesting streets and heavy traffic. Only our family of 7 was in this van. We were met at the door of Dreams with cold wet cloths to wash our hands (which they left us holding) and then they took our luggage. (And misplaced one of the suitcases). We wondered if this was an indication of what to expect next and it was. We were accompanied to the desk where they did a ‘painless' check-in until we were handed off to get our welcome package. It turned out to be more of a ‘pressure sell' by Maria than a welcome package. She scheduled us an appointment the next day where you had to bring your family, have ID and your charge card to buy into the vacation club.We skipped attending the high pressure sales meeting, preferring to spend time with our family while on vacation so we're assuming it was the ‘Preferred Club' Vacation package where a label then graces your door once you buy into a ‘time share'. Even though we had two junior suites, they weren't in the same building. The upsell and additional expenses were constantly being pressured and yet we were never even offered the simple basics like ‘two adjoining rooms' for a family which we had requested in advance. Once we arrived, it was also obvious right away that they were understaffed. On our first night, the housekeeping staff was in our room at 9:30 at night doing turn down service. We interrupted her but she did finish. Many days the room wasn't attended to until late afternoon even after the green housekeeping light was lit letting them know it was empty. Our fridge was finally restocked on our second last day (9 days we waited). The job done cleaning the room was always good, just not enough staff and not cleaned in a timely manner. Bigger picture, service didn't improve until ‘after' you tipped. Then they began to pay more attention. Food was good, but restricting some restaurants to only preferred club members at certain times leaves them empty and new guests don't get to experience the variety so can't share the full Dreams restaurant experience. From the kid's perspective, they have the younger kids camp and then the Teen Club (CoreZone)which leaves the middle ones out. That is a gap that needs to be filled. The entertainment crew did an excellent job and were great at remembering names and reinforcing experiences. Fredy was excellent with the kids, playing UNO and mini golf regardless of which pool we were at. The three pools and the kids water slide park were fun for the younger age groups. The bigger water slide really entertained the older kids and adults. This Dreams advertises 3 water slides, but the third is in the Kids Club area so the general public isn't allowed in. The grounds crew does an amazing job and the property grounds are beautiful. We did have some other excellent staff waiting on us: World cafe - Herberth and Pedro with many other servers always did an excellent job. Hostesses - rarely made eye contact and always seemed to have no understanding in how to or where to seat 7 people. This continued through our entire stay. One specifically, Wendy never made eye contact and it seemed a chore for her to show anyone anywhere. Fusion - excellent sushi and good gluten free options. Philippe was another excellent server. Food in general - okay but interesting we saw a food inspector at the buffet and the next day the glass covers went up. With so many unsupervised guests, having kids and adults touching everything will result in sickness. Front desk - for checkout we had requested a late checkout as our Best Day ride didn't pick us up until 1:45. On checking at the front desk, we were told it was requested but because they were 100% full, they couldn't accommodate it. Amazing that no one contacted us to let us know. To justify her comments the front desk staff member showed us 72 rooms checking out and 75 checking in. When we questioned why we weren't told in advance she said' You have a right to your opinion'. Will we go back to Dreams or any other AMResort – that is a decision that we'd have to review. [Details]

Our first impression of the hotel was not a good one. We had someone approach us with a "welcome package" which turned into a high pressure sales pitch where they insisted on you coming with your whole family and credit card. They set us up for a "private breakfast" the first day but when we decided not to go they hunted us down for 2 days. The resort seemed like it was short staffed. The service was hit or miss depending on the days. Food was okay. The buffet was the same thing every day. The pools and pool decks could've used some cleaning. Our kids felt too old for kids club. When we went to the teen club (when it was empty) my son and I were kicked out. We had a couple of rainy days and the resort didn't have anything planned for those days so everyone was either sitting in their rooms or at the one bar that didn't have much room. [Details]

Sadly a Disappointing Stay for us
Sheila Young, Markham, ON
2019-09-03
Disappointing, money would have been better spent at another resort. Not the good value - HIGHLY UNLIKELY to return or recommend.
This is our 5th Mexico family vacation. After stays at Moon Palace, Beach Palace and Hard Rock Riviera, this was our first stay at Dreams. Our trip cost was approximately $6K for 2 adults and 2 children. At that price we had MANY options where we could have spent our money.
Rooms were spacious and clean. Maid was forgetful in the items to be left in the bathroom, and not replacing our coffee and stocking up our fridge. Beds were very comfortable. Mini bar was a joke at how bare it was with the few very few options we had to choose from. Water, juice and 2 cans of beer. No wine bottle at all for me. I had to request a glass of wine. Open glass would be delivered to the room. I am not a fan of this at all. Staff were mostly very friendly and courteous.
The beach was nicely kept and waters were calm, light seaweed. Several pools with lots of seats and towels. Pools were very dirty. Especially the pool where the swim up bars were.
Entertainment: For a big brand resort, you were lacking entertainment. I could not believe it. Entertainment would wrap up at 8:30pm!! This resort is ideal for children 0 - 8 years. Nothing to do after 8:30pm. Head back to your room. The entertainment was horrible. Such cheesy acts. We had to walk out of "Circus show" they looked like teletubbies not circus related! What a shame.
Poolside entertainment: Only time I heard about the zumba was when I decided to sit down at that pool. Your entertainment staff were not interactive at all. Please look at what Hard Rock Riviera provides as well as the Palace resorts. No entertainment & Lack of activities here. Pools were quiet and next to no engagement from the entertainment staff (if they were even around for most of the day)
No lobby, or an air conditioned area to relax during the day or after a meal. There was a lack of bar areas after 5:00PM. It felt like a huge missing piece of the experience. When compared to Hard Rock or Moon Palace, this felt like a big loss. - Mediocre food overall. This is not unusual for most all inclusive resorts, but lacked many items and had a lack of depth of menu choices available at other resorts. Non-buffet restaurants had very small portion sizes. - There was a ‘long pants' restrictions (for men only) at several restaurants. This was worded as ‘long pants and collared shirt'. If you did not bring that clothing, then you could choose to eat on the patio where the mosquitoes were waiting quietly for you. It was interesting that ragged jeans and a t-shirt was acceptable (as I saw at several restaurants), while dress shorts were not. Women's clothing was not restricted (other than swim-ware) and it seems likely a night gown would be permitted. This is sexist, the policy is tone deaf and out of touch with reality. Clothing acceptable throughout North America was not permitted in restaurants (with mediocre food) in Dreams resort. The same establishments would go out of business if they were located outside of this resort. - There was no take away options at buffet. We wanted to stop at the buffet to take a couple of small plates of deserts & fruit back to our room. We were stopped exiting with the reason being that the plates were not permitted to leave. Other resorts are fine with that as the same pates are used for room service and would be returned during room cleaning. Others resorts will provide paper plates (which is reasonable). Dreams asked that we eat there, they provided paper NAPKINS to take wet food away when I protested. Again, it defies common sense and lacks customer service. - Like all resorts, the sales pitch to become members occupies most of the first 24 hours of your stay. It would be refreshing for a resort to just leave visitors to enjoy their hard earned time off. It feels like bludgeoning at times, however once they understand you are not a candidate to join, the sales folks just disappear, like magic.
There are so many choices of vacation spots, all comparable prices. There was too many drawbacks and restrictions that became irritations and spoiled the vacation for me. I could not recommend this resort [Details]

Great resort with our family

We really enjoyed our stay at the Dreams Playa Mujeres. I would have liked to have another week to truly enjoy all the resort had to offer. It was really great for children, and teenagers, with a great family atmosphere. Depending on your status at the hotel (Preferred Guest) you get access to the Secrets Adult only resort connected to it. They have a golf cart service to take you there quick and easy. The Al La Cartes were all very good, and the food at the Buffet was excellent. There is water slides for children and adults, there is a kids water play area with lots of great options, there is a pile of pools and a lazy river (preferred area). Although we were preferred they didn't check to see when we entered these areas so I am not sure the actual perk to that. You do not receive a wrist band here. This resort felt very safe with good security in. It is 1 hour North of the airport, and a good 2.5 hours to Tulum, Xelha, and other tour attractions so if your planning excursions perhaps stay close to Playa Del Carman. They do have a Dolphin exhibit (which I am not sure how to feel about) but the kids enjoyed watching them jump from our balcony. There is more concrete then most resorts ive been to, but it was laid out really well. The service at the buffet and lunch areas could be a bit lacking at times, but we were in no hurry so we just dealt with it. The entertainers were awesome and great with the kids. The pool side drink service was unreal as well. Those guys and girls worked really hard. We only used the kids club for an hour, but the staff there seemed really great with the kids as well. Its a nice option for parents who want to have a nice dinner out. I would go back to this resort if the opportunity presents itself in the future. One minor complaint is they do not re-stock the water, coffee or drinks unless you call them. Once we called and they did not show up. Also for housekeeping you need to flick on a switch which seems easy enough until your rushing out with 3 kids and forget. It would be great for anyone who wants to not be disturbed because there is a light for that as well. Green light come on in and clean, red light leave me alone it was a late one. [Details]

What a week- What a resort. Let me start off by saying that I was privileged enough to Win this trip through a local radio station here in Ottawa. SO my perception of the resort may be a little different then anyone else's as it was free!
Resort was absolutely stunning, we loved everything about it. The pools were clean and beautiful to look out of. The Food and restaurants were tasty and never had an issue to get into eat. The Room ( we had a ocean view to start then moved over to a swim out to finish the last 3 days
Ocean View Room: Amazing vaulted ceilings, amazing comfy King Bed with a fridge that was stocked daily and always taken care of. Cleaning was impeccable ( best I have had) washroom came with Sun screen also ( ) Views were to die for of the grounds and the ocean. Balcony was incredible with a outdoor Jacuzzi and wonderful couch, glass railings and a nice table ( we ate breakfast daily here)
Swim Out Ocean View: everything was amazing in the room too. The one down fall was the pool was cold ( 70 degrees) and was in shade for most of the afternoon. Food: All of it had great taste and loved the daily meals. We ate on the adult side on the outdoor patio and service was great. The order to your room ( via iPad) was super easy and service was great.
Downfall Very low nightlife.. Not a lot of great shows and bars were empty and after 10pm everything was empty and bars were closed ( unless you went to the club) . BUT if you have Kids activates looked great outdoor movies basketball and much more.
Over all we loved the resort and I would recommend it to ANYONE and we will return [Details]

Excellent Family Vacation

Had a great week here with my spouse and some extended family. The resort is north of Cancun on Playa Mujeres (you can see Isla Mujeres across). This area is now expanding like crazy as new hotels are popping up all around. The resort is new and a nice size. The check in and lobby lounge area has an amazing view of the entire resort as you arrive. You also have the benefit of using all facilities at Secrets next door. Rooms were large, spacious, and modern. Huge balconies with a large sitting area and a Jacuzzi tub (all rooms have this). The food was good to excellent with many options to choose from. The pools were the best I have seen at any AI. We all loved the water slides and lazy river too! The beach is huge with lots of loungers and day beds. The sand is very soft. The water is ok - a little cloudy so cannot snorkel, some days had a lot of seaweed. It also gets deep quite quickly. They have nightly entertainment and a couple times a week put on a huge BBQ. There is a bike tour every morning that is worth doing. We would return and would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a relaxing and fun vacation. [Details]

Excellent and accommodating staff, amazing pools (also great water slides and lazy river), very nice beach (wide and sand is like icing sugar), rooms are large and modern, food generally very good, you can also use Secrets resort next door, strong wi-fi.
The weak points
World cafe (main buffet) needs more staff as service slow to non-existent, lots of seaweed on beach (although they clean it everyday), very isolated location far from anywhere. They have a dolphin pen on the ocean (let these beautiful creatures go free!)
