We had an excellent experience up until the day before our departure, we had enough rain for one year in a few hours, so the bottom floor rooms in building one flooded. We had to switch rooms for our last night. Overall it was awesome. The hotel needs a few tweaks, it looked like they were short staffed. [Details]

Great food, service was mostly excellent, room were clean and nicely decorated.
The weak points
The described “bar” in the room had 2 beer and pop, some small bottles of spirits would have been awesome. We were never offered a second cup of coffee at breakfast, one morning I had to serve myself. Add a self serve coffee station in the sun club adult.

This hotel was well laid out and convenient to navigate around to rooms, buffet, restaurants, pool and beach. The buffet had a good variety of foods and the specialty restaurants were very delicious. It was especially appreciated that we did not have to make reservations. The room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. [Details]

[Details]

I survived the Dominican!

The staff at the hotel are fantastic. Except when it came time to check out. I am laying in an ambulance suffering from food poisoning. With an hour To spare. before our bus is coming up to take us, To the airport. To catch our plane home. They overcharged us $41us. For a fancy dinner. The free bottle of wine valued at $38us. They tried to charge us $80. Our $200 in included coupons. Did nothing, even though we had a $60 coupon. To apply to the Dinner. I'm extremely bitter over the checkout experience. Not to mention we were robbed for $100 Canadian. Within 20 minutes of arriving at the hotel. By the room service. Who was fired. The head of security. Retrieved our money back within four hours. We were mind blowing and extremely grateful. Our overall experience is very mixed. after my first trip to the hospital. Because I'm allergic to the mosquito bites. I was put on bedrest. we asked for a cabana bed without concierge service. $30us value, for free. Which we did finally receive. After multiple trips from our room to the concierge desk. Remember I'm supposed to be on bedrest. The staff is amazing. The management, I'm still waiting to hear from. It's been 3 days now. I'm just hoping somebody will reaches out. To correct their mistake. With the over billing at check out. I've opened a dispute with my credit card company. Like I said, I'm not impressed. I'm laying in the back of an ambulance. My girlfriend Was not allowed to leave. Making her feel like she's held hostage. Over $41 US. The management doesn't care if you miss your flight. Or you're laying in an ambulance. They will try to sell you your own child! So many high-pressure sales tactics! Fortunately, friends of ours. Had warned us ahead of time. The only reason why I recommend it for shopping. I cannot post this review. They will Almost say anything to take your money. Luckily, I had budgeted for this. And keep a very strict budget!!! [Details]

Worst food ever on a vacation

Hotel is very dated and needs a modern upgrade. The weather is always fantastic in Punta Cana and the staff are friendly enough. Worst two week vacation we have ever had couldn't wait to get back home to eat. My husband and I were violently ill from food poisoning. I would not recommend anyone to go to this resort. [Details]

Food was the worst we've ever had after travelling for 24 years. We also got food poisoning and so did many others on the resort. The beach was so dirty couldn't swim in it.
Sanitary measures
Terrible, leaving food out in the open for many hours and serving it to people

Not Quite What We Were Hoping, but Still Good!

This resort was first advertised to us as a brand new resort. When we spoke to the travel agent, it was clarified that the resort was recently renovated and under new management/branding. With that information, we booked the trip. Unfortunately, the resort was far from completed renovations, even under standards we would usually see from southern countries.
We were informed a few days before our trip that the upgraded room we had originally booked was not going to be available. Because of that, we were going to be given a basic room, a small refund, and upgraded services to the "Sun Club". The room we received upon arrival was dirty (in Building 3), particularly the floors, and the bathroom was in terrible condition. A far cry from "new" or "renovated" as advertised. We even left a note and a generous tip for the housekeeping staff asking to clean the floors and that was ignored.
The following day, we spoke to the front desk, who informed us to speak to the Sun Club staff to see about changing rooms. The Sun Club staff weren't able to do anything right away, but said they would connect with me before the end of the day. We also had a meeting with our Air Canada onsite representative, and he was excellent in chatting with both the front desk and Sun Club staff to help with the issue. With some prodding, by the end of the day, we did receive a new room, which was great (at least it was clean!), but the bathroom was still quite outdated (in Building 4).
The staff, while overall helpful, had moments where information between teams didn't align. I felt I was constantly shuffled between the operations team to sort out the room, and there was confusion between staff at the spa and the VIP tickets we received with credits we could apply to services. Information that was provided to me on how to use the credits was different, depending on who I spoke to.
Housekeeping staff could use some training. Our bathroom counter was not wiped down once until our sixth day, which makes you wonder what else wasn't cleaned. The tissue paper wasn't replaced after the box was empited mid-week. We didn't receive towels on the 6th day either. We would leave a tip of $5 USD each day for housekeeping, with a note written in spanish on any special requests (new towels or pop for the minibar) and a lot of that went ignored, but the tip was always taken.
On our last day, we were provided the opportunity to shower in a room in Building 6, so we could enjoy our full day by the pool after checkout. This room was decent - the bathroom was well maintained, and the room was very clean. Perhaps it's just the luck of which building has been updated or not.
The entertainment crew get top marks - the people who run the events around the pool and beach were always on their game and had to keep their energy up all day and into the evening as they started the evening entertainment. The different shows each night were excellent as well. High compliments to the Explorers Club team, who helped entertain the kids. Our seven year old had fun when he participated and the kids room, splash pad, and playground are in excellent shape.
The restaurants were ok. One in our party has celiac disease and he ate very well at the buffet, with no issues, though we didn't know what was gluten free or not. The host would always ask if there were any allergies, but then no further information was provided as to what could or could not be eaten, with the exception of the Italian specialty restaurant (where it was indicated on the menu). He stuck to the basics of meat, veggies, and the gluten free prepackaged bread was excellent. Neither of us were sick. Our son, who basically ate pizza and watermelon all week was sick on the third day for 24 hours, but that was also after a trip off resort, so the blame could be based on the food received on the excursion.
The specialty restaurants left a bit to be desired - we found ourselves going to the buffet for a second meal after each specialty restaurant and none of the specialty restaurants had a kids menu. The menu portions were small and a bit bland. The buffet had a lot of choices, and different options each day, but could use some small things like bbq sauce or jam to help appease younger appetites. Wait staff were excellent and friendly.
The pool area and beach area were great. Easy to get a sun bed each day, though we did throw towels on chairs around 8am to get a spot with more shade. Wifi wasn't an issue - easy to access and worked in most spots. [Details]
