Hotel is an OLD dump

, Mississauga, ON

Hotel is a badly maintained, aged, rundown dump.
Despite the staff best efforts to keep it going it is in need of extensive renovations if not total demolition. [Details]

Hollywood Beach Resort, Fort Lauderdale

When we got there we could not get into our room as the lock on the door was malfuntioning, they said they were going to fix it..but it took them five days into the holiday before they fixed it properly. The room was very poorly lit because light bulbs were missing or not working - we requested they be fixed several times during the trip and they said they would fix them but didn't. We would hesitate to go there again. Before going we asked about the Hotel Parking fee's and were told about $15.00 per week when it turned out to be per day - that was a nasty surprise. Same with the resort fee's not $10.00 per week but 10.00 per day. [Details]

The beach and ocean are the draw...

This is listed as a 2.5 star, and that's really about what it was. It is beachfront which is a big plus, and on a quieter strip of Hollywood Beach. The ocean, sun and the beach was what we wanted, and that is what we got for a fairly inexpensive flight/hotel package. We were not too surprised that the hotel was looking pretty run down, we just wanted a kitchenette and a bed and bath, and something that was clean. Hotel has free wireless (although you do pay an additional $10/night resort fee for towels, internet, etc) which was helpful. The hotel is attached to an old deserted mall called Oceanwalk, and that was the worst part of the building by far. It's dirty, run-down, and mainly empty from what we could tell, and it was pretty depressing to be in. Public washrooms in the mall were filthy, not sure who is responsible for cleaning them. Room was fairly clean, but old and worn out. The beach was lovely, and the broadwalk is full of funny characters. [Details]

The strong points
The beachfront access, the hotel is in a quieter area along Hollywood Beach, the kitchenette, free wireless
The weak points
The hotel is attached to a run-down, deserted looking mall which was pretty depressing to have to go through to get to the beach. Public washrooms were dirty, hotel room (non-renovated) was pretty run down, but fairly clean at least.

I would recommend it!

The hotel itself looked old when you first walked in. But during the stay you could really see where they were making improvements. The bathtub was old and in need of repair but water pressure was good. They installed new crown molding in the room but had yet to be painted. Windows were very old but they said they are going to be replaced this year. The hotel did not have ANY balconies which was disappointing. The beds were super old, uncomfortable and very noisy. However, the rooms were very clean. The outside of the hotel looked nicer than alot of the inside. The pool was small and not alot of chairs but fortunately the beach is just outside the hotel with alot of open space for chairs or blankets. Most everyone working at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. The hotel had a foodcourt but it was dirty and ugly and does not make you want to eat there. However, they have an outside restaurant that has a great staff and great food. They also had a complimentary breakfast that was better than expected. Included was juice, milk, coffee, muffins, bagels, cereal (cold and hot). The entertainment was usually a different band each night ranging from blues to rock. We really enjoyed all of them. Overall, it was as expected for the price. [Details]
