Okayish... rooms are a bit austere and the deign for the pool and building are wacky, basically the pool is almost always in the dark. Food is (Wow like high school cafeteria and prisons have a better spread) ....I ate off the resort the entire time. They don't serve drinks by the pool or the beach... you do all that yourself... but still tip the same. Small details like they don't serve Lattes until 11AM, and the front desk tried to charge me 25 bucks for a lost towel card. Wifi is terrible, and irritating because you have to log in every time with a password they seem to change every three seconds... did I mention the wifi is also child protected but block random sites like my Banking site so I had to text a family member to log into my bank so I could pay an urgent bill. Internet is terrible even on your own roaming data... (Almost no signal anywhere in the city) Honestly Staff was great but if this is indicative of the Decameron experience, there are better resorts out there, at better value. Did I mention it's a two hour bus ride from Puerto Vaharta? [Details]

The strong points
Lovely Staff! Vendors on the beach aren't as aggressive as other places. Beach is incredible. Surrounding town of Guaybalitos is charming with some greet street food and restaurants.
The weak points
It's a tropical retirement home, there is a better night life in Delaware. Go here if you want to not get a tan because the pool is basically in a cave.

The hotel was great, rooms were spacious, the cleaning staff was helpful, no in-room fridge, but water bottles in the room every day. The hotel wasn't full capacity so always a beach lounger, if not a large pool with several loungers in the early afternoon full sun. The food was better than the reviews I read before leaving, no bacon, but always protein substitutes. Evening shows were great if you enjoy that kind of thing. The only clitch, was booking al carte restaurants, Los Coco's got the 6 - 8 time slots, we had to book after 8pm. But they had good service and food. Close & safe to main street for trinket shopping & eating on the street. [Details]

AUTHENTIC MEXICAN EXPERIENCE

, Airdrie, AB

Hotel staff were awesome. Hotel was clean. Bed wasn't great, shower had hot water early in the day was intermittent as the day went on.

The hotel pool and beach were very busy with families due to the holiday. Pool towel availability was limited. Getting access to ala carte at Los Cocos was not a possibility which seems to be a Decameron hotel chain trait.

It was nice to be in an area that was authentic Mexico and had no salespeople bothering me every few minutes to buy a time share.

Food was average, however, there are a number of restaurants close by if you want to venture off resort. Area seemed very safe.

Brings PESOS, as unlike other areas vendors around this area will, but prefer not to, accept USD/CDN $. [Details]

Basic all inclusive, nice beach

The staff and front desk employees were friendly and tried to solve any issues. The Ocean view rooms that you pay more for are subjective due to the design of the structure, for a package you will not be getting the direct ocean view rooms on the beachfront. you will be looking across at other rooms and if you lean out then you will see the ocean, the breezeway to your room has a better ocean view. The beds were comfortable but short, the King bed appeared hard so we didn't take that room. Housekeeping had difficulty with towel consistancy in the room and we had two items mysteriously broken during our 10 days. The food was okay, always able to find something to eat, BBQ night was the best if you are a carnivore, the bars served quality brands and the bar tenders were consistant, if you bring a large tumbler they will fill it up. The beach directly infront was fairly flat but the area around loungers required more raking and cleaning of garbage. The water was mostly calm but we did have some larger waves for a few days. The shuttle to other two Decamerons was non existent, so you are walking or cabbing, we found the Isla de Coral Hotel much quieter on the beach, although it has rougher waves but thankfully it had fewer beach venders and a great ocean view, unlike La Marina with one vender every 30 seconds at times and many parked carts directly infront of the loungers blocking the ocean view.
The onsite bar was being renovated or something and remained closed for 8 of our 10 days, the nightly Karaoke was a bit loud and kept us from using our deck as the noise was an assault on the ears. there is not much to do other than sit and drink in a noisy environment as the property size is small, beach walks and street walks in search of live entertainment in the area came up empty. The Los Cocos has more area to find a zone away from the buzz and also offers more entertainment and activities which we did utilize. not a bad stay just a bit more noise than we expected. Also, remember it is in a different time zone than Sayulita and Puerto Vallarta, an hour is lost heading back to the PVR airport. The majority of the visitors to the beach are area locals with families and they appear to be having a great time and are mostly very friendly especially if you try to speak Spanish(I'm still learning) [Details]

The strong points
great location on beach, quality alchohol brands, friendly staff,
The weak points
Constant loud music at pool and pool bar, karaoke too loud and made it difficult to sit and listen to the ocean from anywhere near resort, garbage under loungers and along tide lines not cleaned regularly.transport from PVR can take longer than expected
Sanitary measures
not bad in general areas and bathrooms, beach lounger area requires more frequent effort

Very Very Disapointing

My wife and I travel several times a year and have visited this area a lot. However it has become saturated with locals and that is now what these resorts seem to be catering to. There is almost no English speaking staff available nor management. Any information given is very misleading and there is an extreme lack of service, cleaning and maintenance throughout. Sad since this was our favourite spot to vacation. The beach is now packed daily which makes it crowded with the increase of vendors. Things such as not replenishing bread, butter, syrup and other basics during breakfast make things worse. These are just some of the simple things they have been cutting back on in my opinion to save money. Really, NO beach towels available by noon. But if you complain enough you are sent to the front desk where they are readily provided. Ridiculous. Obviously we will not return since there are many alternatives available. [Details]

The strong points
1. The nightly entertainment at Cocos is still the best except the lack of English, everything is done mostly in Spanish. 2. One of the best beaches anywhere, good for walking and swimming but is becoming saturated with vendors.
The weak points
Lack of English speaking at front desk and throughout, very noisy thru to 1 and 2am, buffet very poor (sometimes no bread, no syrup, poor fruit & desert selections), insufficient or no beach towels available, Al la carte not available as promised.
Sanitary measures
Washrooms and hallways throughout the complex poorly maintained. No way of closing the door leading to the use of toilets in the public areas as they have broken or fallen off and not replaced.

Not what it used to be

I have been going to Guayobitos for over 20 years and during my visits I have stayed in either Los Cocos or La Marina - and, in the past, I was very happy with my stay in these hotels. However, recently I have found the hotels to be run down and needing repairs. Example (just in our room) the sheets/towels were dingy and frayed, the bed was super hard, the pillows smelled, the cabinet holding the TV was falling apart, the balcony rails were very rusty, the door into the room had to be slammed so it would shut, sewer gasses kept coming up through the sink and shower drains. There's more but I think you get the picture.
During the day the music at the pool was so loud we had to cover our ears to get past the speakers. I get that this is Mexico and that many of the clients are Mexican (remember, I've been going there for over 20 years) - but I think there needs to be a compromise made for Canadian clients as well. It's not a welcoming environment anymore. I'm sad to say we won't be staying in the Decameron hotels in Guayobitos in future. [Details]

The room was oceanfront with big windows- beautiful view! There were several nights that the colourful Mariachi Band ( paid for by guests or others) played on the beach under our window into the early morning hours, including much whooping and hollering. Made for a few nights of no sleep. The food was ok. The staff were very friendly and tried very hard to understand our English, but there were only a handful with English skills. We discovered that mostly Canadians don't arrive until Nov and more English speaking staff would be coming later. Internet was spotty in our room- ok in parts of restaurant and good at reception area. Housekeeping often missed supplying our room with enough items: sometimes missing face cloths, hand towels or bath mat. We called down to desk and sometimes they would send up the item(s) - other times not. [Details]

Poor vacation

Buffet food was cold. Food was in the trays but you could not access the food until the official opening time. No orange juice just orange drink. Food not always available during the day, One restaurant only open on weekend to accommodate bus guests but food was hot. Wi fi was inconsistent. Only one person on reception for 2 days out of 7 spoke English. Bus trip guests excessively loud until well after midnight on weekend. Communication between sister hotels for alacart reservations were not always honored. Beach access past the hotel roped off area was crowded with vendors and non-guests. [Details]

This beautiful Hotel is situated right in front of the beach. You will love it because you will hear all kinds of birds chirping and the ocean splashing all night. The great thing about this hotel is that when you register to this one you could profit of the two other Decameron Los Cocos and Decameron Isla Coral which is cool! Finally, to all English spoken people, Salvatore who works in Decameron La Marina but also in the two other ones speaks great English and is very helpful. He will make sure that you are well taking care off. All the staff are super nice and helpful from the waiters/waitress to the barman everyone is very kind and helpful. If you want to experience a real vacation with locals this is your destination of choice. [Details]

We really enjoyed our stay, we found the place was clean, everthing was new (it opened up 20 days before our arrival). The staff were friendly and eager to please. The toilet flapper arm broke the first morning & it was repaired within a couple of hours. Many of the staff including the servers couldn't speak or understand English, however they were able to find another staff member to help us. Overall I would recommend a trip to this resort. Location - on the beach which was amazing to walk on as it was flat & in the town which was easy to stroll around. Access to everything at the other 2 Decamerons really made it special.
The weak points
The music for the evening entertainment was too noisy. Because of the U shape of the resort there was no need to have it so loud. I don't know how kids & babies could sleep through it. It did end at 10:00 pm which was good.

New hotel was still under construction, no rails on the steps, 1 elevator was working and that was down for a day, hammering till 10:30 pm on the floor above us had to change our room. Food was sub standard, and the same most days. No fridge in the room was told the medication that needed to be refrigerated could be kept at the Los Cocos resort with the nurse. We also ate a lot of our meals there, on the weekends we couldn't get into the buffet very busy. Been traveling to different places in Mexico for many years this was our worst trip ever. Most of the staff were good, several were extremely helpful. Needless to say we won't go back or recommend it to anyone. [Details]
