Hm Alma De Bayahibe Hotel

This hotel is awful start to finish. They would not fix our A/C (even though they sent someone to look at it everyday sometimes multiple times). The whole building didn't work for a couple of days, and the manager tried to tell us that it was only our room even though we met multiple couples at the front desk with the same issues. They offered to switch us to a different room however that room was also 27 degrees Celsius as well. The manager just wanted to argue with us about the room being hot.
His idea that a room with an ambient temperature of 26 degrees Celcuis was not hot, it was just "fresh". We found out they changed someone who had arrived days after us to an airconditioned room in another building (the man was 6'8" and 300lbs). We paid for an "ocean view" room however had to keep the blackout drapes closed so the room wouldn't get above 27. Ocean view to them means you can see the ocean from your room, not that you have a good view.

The food is barely edible, the drinks are bargain basement. They use sugar flavours for the Pina Coladas and Daiquiris (no fruit in sight). They run out of mint for Mojitos and Champagne daily. There are times of the day food is not even available. Staff are friendly if you are a young good looking person. The whole resort shuts down at 11 pm. It is an adults only.... [Details]

Everything about this hotel was great. Room was huge, bathroom huge (random hot water but not completely cold), The staff kept this hotel and all grounds very clean and were constantly cleaning. The pools are amazing, the view over the ocean amazing. Buffet was great for all meals Breakfast-Lunch-Dinner. Did 3 Alacartes (Mexican/Italian/International) all food was excellent. We had a random rain for a few parts of the day and this did not bother us at all as we had constant shelter locations to go under and enjoy the rain while having a drink or a snack. Lobby bar capaccinos were my favourite part of the morning. Staff were all friendly. Loved it, loved that it was Adults only and loved that it was last minute with a great price. We had a great time. The resort is more of a 3 star resort. The food was decent. Drinks were good with the exception of beer. They only had one kind and it was not good. Everyone works very hard and they make your stay very pleasant. The front desk staff and entertainment staff is amazing. The resort doesn't have their own beach, but they have a shuttle that takes you to the public beach. The beach is beautiful. It only takes 3 min drive or 10 min walk. It is very safe to walk through town and visit all the shops, caffees, art galleries etc. The rooms are old and outdated, but clean. With the exception of front desk staff, no one else speaks English, and that was very hard for us. My friend has sever nut allergies and trying to communicate that was very difficult. Our stay would have been better if more staff was able to communicate in English. [Details]
