My great time in Habana

, Ottawa, ON
2018-01-08
I was very happy with the conditions and the services of the hotel. Yes it is relatively a small place, not much to offer, but the atmosphere wos great. Especially the receptionists made my staying there very easy. I would go again and probably I will. [Details]

Our Happy Place in Havana

, Steinbach, MB
2017-03-08
This hotel is not a luxurious facility. But what it lacks in luxury it more than compensates for with friendly, competent service and Cuban charm. Our room was basic but clean and comfortable. Our bus from the airport and some taxis found the hotel a bit hard to find, but that added to the adventure of our trip. We ran out of water for an hour or two on our last morning there as they filled the tank again, but otherwise we had a constant supply of hot and cold water for our low-pressure shower. There's a busy road that passes the east side of the hotel, so there was some traffic noise at night in our east-side room, but the air conditioner covered most of that. The hotel itself was quite quiet at night even though it seemed to be quite full most nights. Breakfasts were very adequate, though there wasn't a lot of variety day to day. We didn't find very many good eating places in the area close to the hotel, but there are excellent restaurants within a km or so from it. The hotel is somewhat far from the center of Havana's activities and historic sites, but a negotiated taxi ride or an interesting walk remedies that. The hotel is located within easy walking distance south of the Plaza de la Revolucion and the Jose Marti tower along a major palm-lined boulevard. The hotel was usually unable to convert our Canadian cash into CUCs and at one point would have converted money for us had it been US cash (which we found somewhat strange), but there is a bank just around the corner from the hotel. We would certainly not discourage anyone from using this hotel while in Havana, especially if you are comfortable with a Cuban experience that might stray a little (but not too far) from luxury.
