Gorgeous boutique resort in the heart of Lucaya

, Burlington, ON

From the room, to the grounds, to the staff everything was incredible at Pelican Bay! It's perfectly located just a short walk from the marketplace and a short, scenic, ferry ride to Taino Beach (where you have access to the beach, pools, etc.). The grounds are beautifully landscaped with stunning water views. We were treated to breathtaking sunsets over the marina from our balcony. The lighting at night creates a magical ambiance throughout the grounds.
We were in one of the more updated rooms. It was spacious and modern. I know it's a small thing but I loved the nice touches like hooks on the balcony to hang your beach towels. Housekeeping is every 2nd day..which suited us just fine.
There are 3 beautiful pools but they were a bit too cold for us during our visit in February. There isn't a beach on site but in addition to the free ferry to the Taino Beach resort you can also pay $25 for a day pass at the Lighthouse Pointe resort right next door.
We enjoyed the breakfast buffet .... lots to choose from and a bit of variety every day. You'd have to be extremely fussy not to find something to enjoy. We also really enjoyed our meal at Sabor Restaurant....wonderful service and delicious food! Bones Bar was also a popular hang out on the water's edge...cold drinks, reasonable prices and stunning views. There are numerous other bars and restaurants within walking distance (we enjoyed the Flying Fish right next door).
We had nothing but positive experiences with the staff. Everyone we dealt with was warm, friendly and attentive.
We highly recommend Pelican Bay if you are planning a trip to Freeport!! [Details]

Grand Bahamas for the holidays

The Pelican Bay is a locally owned and operated hotel that caters to both local and foreign tourists. It has a nice atmosphere compare to the bigger hotels in the same area. The room decor is ecclectic. The AC noisy and the overall facilities need some TLC. [Details]

The strong points
Location is excellent facing the canal and near the marketplace. The beach access n/a but short water taxi ride takes you to a beautiful spot where you can share a sister resort's amenities, pool, beach, restaurant. Hotel is quiet and feels safe.
The weak points
Staff is very slow to respond (on island time). Breakfast is included but somehow chaotic. Ground floor rooms are musty better with the upper floors.

A boutique hotel with friendly and helpful front desk staff. Nice pool by Sabor retaurant. Comfortable lounge chairs. 6 min ferry ride to Taino Beach .... take it! Beach much nicer than one across from Lucayan Market .... Breakfast included .... situated on 4th floor of new building that caters to weddings ... lovely venue ... breakfast on balcony overlooking inner harbour .... room ok ... but view of suite which is really a 1 bedroom apt blew me away .... next time will opt for suite .... very few people around pool exc for Saturdays ..... all in all a real jewel ... its not a resort .... its a boutique hotel and one my wife and I will definitely be going back to ... the weather was perfect so this probably helps the experience there .... 5 min walk from hotel to market with restaurants, stores and Count Basie square (for entertainment at night) The best beach was Gold Rock across the street from Lucayan National Park. Breathtaking at low tide! Flying Fish restaurant beside hotel ranked in top 5 in Caribbean. [Details]

Loved it!

We received a free upgrade from a regular room to an enormous state room with breakfast included, in-room coffee. At first we were worried as hotel is not adjacent to the beach, but we did find the ferry service to the beach was convenient and frequent enough. Beach was amazing. Hotel within close walking distance to the market place for shopping, restaurants, etc. Walking distance to other hotels, casino. Hotel service was very good. We were blown away by our feeling of security in the area. Travelled off-season, so area was quiet. [Details]

Was pleasantly surprised with this hotel, it was close the airport and for the most part very well kept. HUGE rooms and really cool decor. Includes a NESPRESSO coffee/cappucino press and the discs! Handy and close walk to all the restaurants, market, casino, etc. Would definately return! Beach is nice, must go by water taxi (10 mins) to Taino Beach. [Details]

The strong points
Well kept hotel, grounds immaculate, huge rooms, great location
The weak points
Could use some minor renovations inside the rooms (ie: caulking in the tubs, etc). No real complaints though.
